@denex,

You comparing the deliberate attack on civilinans in Iraq to the attack on the law enforcement agents in Afghanistan? They are world's apart.

One targets helpless people becuase of their brand of Islam while the other targets an arm of the government that is empowered to apprehend and kill them. These are different altogether.

@denex, mazaje,

Please consider this in your permutations as well. The US invaded Afghanistan too and we don't see them turning on each other in a fight to the death!

Make them go build their Military Base for their papa land. We will vigorously resist it being built in Nigeria, and we will vigorously resist it being buil in any African country. Unless we will also build an ECOMOG camp in New York.
Until then!

@presido1,

Ok you are of the opinion that the US cannot keep 9/11 happening in their own land why then are they so much interested to prevent attack in a foriegn land. Their must be an agenda behind that.
The rationale behind this is very simple. Does the high fences and maiguards we use in naija guarantee that armed robbers will not break in? Absolutely not! So why not do without them? Well, common sense teaches you to do what you know to do to dissaude and resist being robbed, but it doesn't guarantee it not happening.

This is about the same thing happening here. Just as the prescence of police does not guarantee the safety of the citizens, the lack of a police force will guarantee that criminals reign supreme!

No wonder these women are their heroes, they find good company in those who are hung on personalities and not the rule of law. Verbal abuse and curses are the only language they understand.

@RichyBlack,

@TayoD,
It is not justice if "fairness" and "equity" are not applied.

Your seem to imply that as long as the law is applied to some members of the public, then it's all well and good regardless of the extent to which fairness and equity guide its application.

Selective application of the law should not be championed by anyone who is unbiased.
I am only responding to you becuase you made your point without any ethnic slurs and personal attacks. The ability to do this is geting rarer by the day on nairaland.

You get me absolutely wrong as I am not implying selective justice. My call would rather be that Dokubo, Fasheun and others should be re-arrested and tried for treason rather than have Nwazuruike released because the others were released. If Dokubo and co flouted the laws of the land, they should be punished as much as Nwazuruike is punished.

I seek no selective justice, but rather that the law should be applied to the letter. One issue I have asked with no one responding to is what is the position of the courts here? If these women are so convinced on the rightness of their positions, why don't they seek redress in court? We talk about democracy and yet we are not making use of the system as it should be used. Let them curse from here on end, they will only be hurting their own throats.

If we say Nwazuruike should be released becuase other criminals like Him were released, then we might as well say all the people in our prisons should be released becuase some were released. The "fairness" and "equity" you seek should not be limited to this case, abi?
PoliticsRe: MASSOB Women Threaten To Curse Nigerian Men Over Ralph Uwazirike by TayoD(m): 9:44pm On Jul 30, 2007
@Xris74,

You guys will be put to shame. It is a matter of time and the guy will be released. But Yoruba double-speak will forever remain palpable. Woe betide you and your warped generation of hypocrites and leeches. You can only be vindicated if the other guys released did not commit similar offence as Uwazuruike. Pray how is Uwazuruikes' case different than Dokubo's, Adams' and Fashehun's case?
Why make this another opportunity to spew out ethnic slurs! The issue here is not about one ethnicity over another.

The issue is whether the laws of the land have been broken! Is he rightly being tried for treason? Better still, is he being held against a court injunction? Let him go through the courts and justify himself. However, the fate of a convicted treasonable felon is death!

Were the other guys released due to a court verdict? No doubt a political solution can be reached where the the parties reach an amicable solution, if not, let the courts decide what should happen.

Calling for the release of Uwazuruike based on the release of Dokubo et al is like calling for the nation to spare ex-governors who stole from the state coffers because others were released as well. It just don't make sense, and it is a violation of the natio's laws.

Mamajama,

I have made up my mind either to ignore people who have no issues to discuss but rather attack personalities to boost up their egos, or just give it back to them in their own coin. In this case, I will just ignore them. You cannot educate every body on the internet! Just allow them to carry their insecurity elsewhere.

It is funny how all they can do is try to compare one case with another even if they are related. The issue here is that someone has commited a treasonable offence. Naija's double standard does not make his case right, but empty heads can't think beyond their prejudice and so just open their gutters to spew out bile.

Why don't you go ahead and actively call for the break up of Russia or any country for that matter and see if they will welcome you with open arms. Like I said, prejudice no dey allow some people think correctly!
Christianity EtcRe: Motivational Speakers Or Gospel Preachers? by TayoD(m): 8:35pm On Jul 30, 2007
@topic,

I started noticing this same "problem" while in naija a few years back. I remember my Pastor mentioning how easy it is to teach the Bible and yet never talk about Jesus. That led me to pay a closer attention to people's teachings and I realise how true his statement is.

I think it was Mike Murdock who said the entire Bible teaches us two main things: the life of Jesus and the principles of Jesus. It is unfortunate that many now focus on His principles while "not holding the Head" as Paul rightly put it. When you teach His principles without teaching His person, you are no more than a motivational preacher. Unfortunately, while His principles will bless anyone (including unbelievers), it is His life that will save us.

An unbeliever who lives by His principles will surely prosper, likewise a believer. An unbel who sows will reap, an unbel who works hard will prosper and an unbel who casts his bread on the water will find it after many days. These are natural principles which when put to work, will work!

On the other hand, people will be deceived when all they hear are His principles which has propered them becuase they put it to practice. Their apparent success makes it seem as if all is well when in the true sense, they lack the vital relationship for the salvation of their souls. One of the scripture that touched me the most during my study was Romans 11:9 And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompence unto them: In other words, the success they have based on teaching and imbibing Jesus' principles was now a stumbling block to their seeking what truly matters - His life. And that is the problem with unbalanced motivational teaching.

That is why my motto till date remains Acts 17:28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; Anything I do, teach or say must have its source in Him, must be sustained by Him and must glorify Him. If I am disconnected from the Head at any stage, I lose my reward. This is the balance that needs to be taught along with all these motivational teachings.

@Galadriel,

Also include the fact that 419ners only prey on the greedy. So while they are focusing on us, they need to take a closer look at themselves also. You might want to compare 419ners to Frank William Abagnale, Jr. who was famous for his 419 lifestyle in the 60s. I recently watched an interview in which he admits that while he feels bad about his crime, he does not feel pity for his victims because in each instance, they must have felt they were smarter than him and taking him for a ride.

You might also tell them that 419ers feel justified by their actions because they believe they are paying back the West for their crime. Gone were those days when the West would steal all our resources in exchange for a mirror!! But be creful not to appear to justify their action, just give them more food for thought.

@topic,

why same yardstick cannot be used for Nigerian case is what i found difficult to understand.
The answer to this is very simple. What are Nigeirians doing to stop the menace caused by these few? Instead, we are seen to glorify the glaring thieves amongst us as revealed on this thread: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-69173.0.html.

Until there is a mass protest by Nigerians to deal with these vices, we will all be considered complacent and complicit in this issue.

I do feel your pain about the stereotyping and how it could negatively affect us as indiviuals - especially those of us off the shores on naija, but there is almost next to nothing we can do about it if our government don't tackle the issue.

@topic,

Didn't Ralph Uwazuruike count the cost before venturing on such a project? These women had better find something more rewarding to do. The last time somone tried to break up naija, millions of people died. Anyone trying to do the same should first put his own life on the line.

Even Abiola died for a cause he believed in. Nwazuruike on the other hand still has his life for attempting a grave illegality - treason! He his lucky he hasn't been executed yet!

@Seun,

Needless to say, the US military presence does not guarantee anything. What a pity.
There is no guarantee anwhere in the world. The US that could not keep 911 from happening cannot prevent the same in another country. However, think about what would have happened if there was no US military presence in the korean peninsula.
PoliticsRe: Terrorism: Made In USA by TayoD(m): 5:08pm On Jul 30, 2007
@deezel,

Apart from the US interests involved, the military bases are also established in the interests of the various regions where they are located. You watch how the different countries will scramble to have the US site their bases in their countries.

From Japan to South Korea, Saudi Arabia to Quatar, these are nations that voluntarily invited the US and are counting on the US military presence to guarantee their security.

@deezel,

nuff respect to those who post thot provoking lines, TayoD, Denex and others, nice one. Lets give those who don't know somethings to think about.
I have learnt to ignore people who seek to come on board just to malign other people. Giving them such attention tend to boost their ego and provide them with the satisfaction they so crave from the attention - however negative it is.

Like, what do u think of Yankee saying they want to have a base up north in order to counter all forms of terrorist cells that are truying to grow(heard Sunnis and Shites fought up north a while ago). Will we be in the same mess places like Indonesia, etc are in?
One thing is certain, the US will go to any extent possible to defend their freedom and national interests. This is trus of most nations except that the US in most cases tend to desire to do things by the book. The location of the bases have not been finalised but it appears there will be one in the north, south, east and west of Africa.

The question is this: is it true that islamo-fascism is on the rise in some parts of Africa? And is this a threat to the West and to the region itself? Would the US' presence help in containing these threats (keep in mind the effect of the US troops prescence in the korean peninsula).

@deezel,

Another childish comments from someone who is supposed to be a father, na wah ooo.
Can you see what I mean? It is all about character assasination with no intelligent input at all.

If the US can veto anything concerning Israel why is this man complaining about veto power by the likes of China and Russia? Double standards at work here but we are used to it.
Can someone please speak the language that this guy can understand. Who complained about China and Russia's Veto power? Making a statement of fact is not the same thing with complaining.

I guess I won't be staying long on this forum if all I have to do is wade off personal attacks. To deezel, Denex and others who are really interested in discussing this topic, I would be willing to indulge you guys as long as we deal with issues and provide the facts to support them!

To others who are here to malign other's cahracter, I will only advice them that this is not the forum to provide them with the attention they've lacked since childhood. They might want to visit the jokes section where their sorrows might be temporarily forgotten through laughter! If that doesn't help them they will do well to jump in front of an oncoming train!

@deezel,

not the US but the west in general.
Good to see you are not the biased type. I tend to agree more with you than those who persistently accuse the U.S. just becuase they were refused a visa!

Look at Sierra Leone. one thing thats clear is that these guys fuel the wars so they can sell their guns, get our resources cheaply and play the messiah when they feel they have had enough.
am sure if sudan had oil or somn, they woulda had yankee go to their rescue. i wont e surprised to hear that some russian is getting richer from the issue in our own little niger-delta
Well, China is making so much money from the situation in Sudan that they have repeatedly threatened veto to every action the US is trying to take through the UN. Russia on the other hand is supplying weapons to the government who is actively cleansing the country ethnically.

With all the noise that people make about the US, I ask them to name one country that was colonised by the United States. Rather, the US was colonised by others and it even helped in the establishment of an african nation in the form of Liberia! So you see, many of the accussations aimed at the US can't really hold water when we decide to consider the facts. I guess that is why many would rather just resign themselves to character assasination and maligning that nation.

I don't mind being found in the midst of unbels who know they need the Lord. However, when an unbel now preaches "another gospel" while speaking "christianese" and your Pastor has the guts to validate his ministry, then you guys are in trouble.

Isn't it pathetic. The lost claiming to show others the way of salvation. When the blind lead the blind, na gutter be that! Thanks to Oyhaks, many are falling straight into the ditch through the leading of T.B. Joshua.

The issue here is simple. Please verify your miracles so you can stay on the air. Here is Jesus, whom you claim to follow verifying His miracles in Matthew 8:2 And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. 3 And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. 4 And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

The last I checked, CNN is seen all over the world. Does that make the network of God? Osama is more popular than any preacher, while Al Qaeda is the most popular organisation in the world! If we go by your doctrine of popularity equates to godliness, then these folks must be saints!
Let me share a scripture with you in Romans 11:9 - And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompence unto them: So can you see that what appears to be a sign of prosperity could as well be a snare. Blinded by what you think is success, you may just end up missing God becuase of your theology that success means godliness.

You haven't seen anything yet. Such opposition is good for ministries that are beloved of God. That is the necessary ingredient for promotion.
So Christ died for your ministry abi? Don't you realise that Paul mentioned that the focus must be on the man before the ministry? When the man's life is questionable, his ministry to others will be questioned -1 Timothy 4:16. It is the rightful questioning of his ministry that makes his audience ask that his miracles be verified. Is this too much to ask? What have they got to hide to now run away when the light is shined on you? Why are you afraid of the light? Didn't the scriptures say whatsoever is made manifest is light? What is Oyahks and co hiding to now resist the shining of light as the scriptures declare?

Anyone who doesn't like it is free to leave the country. As long as you want to live here, you have to play by the rules.

Even at work, company rules forbid you to so much as threaten any bodily harm to a colleague. It takes only a first offence to be fired! People are respected here and one of the "best" way to show disrespect is to not honour another's physical well-being.

Your attempt to compare 50 Cents and Ja Rule's altarcation to this is laughable at best. Someone plans to retaliate to the single person that he feels hurt by, and another plans to carry out mayhem on the larger society by killing innocent people. You tell me you see no difference in the two?

North, South, East or West we are all Nigerians in the eyes of the international community! I hope this tribal thing is nipped in the bud before it turns into a consuming conflagration.

I find it appalling that some are trying to minimize the gravity of this lad's action. Not only did they find an implicating note on him, they found a LOADED gun in his room! What more do you need to take action? Dead bodies?

So attempting to make terroristic threats should be treated with a pat on the back? Do you realise what the economic effects of such an act could be?

While one can argue that the automatic guns were purchased to supply an earlier purchase, what do you have to say about the Uzi Submachine Gun? Wonders shall never end with Nigerians (such as you)
Why go to Egypt alone to see wonders?

Did the governors in your own zone use their allocations to build federal roads and then sue the FG after?
Why is it so hard for you to accept a noble idea? I think lagos actually did this before. They repared some Federal Highways in Lagos and the FG refunded the money. I don't think they went to court to seek redress, but that would have been a legitimate action had the FG not paid up.

Think about it. Once the House appropriates money to repair a road, it becomes illegal for the FG not to use the monwy for that purpose. If the State can prove hardship by the non-repair, they have a good case in court if they repaired it themselves. They will be entitled to the money back and the legal fees.

Why don't they use their federal allocations to build the road then sue the FG for the money back?
