PoliticsRe: Why It May Take Eternity For Nigeria To Move Forward by TayoD(m): 4:48pm On Aug 14, 2007
@all,

Please let's not make this thread degenerate beyond the point it has gone already. Like Babeelove said, there is one thing common to all of us no matter the differences in our persuasions and approach: We all love Nigeria. So rather than continue with our differences, let's find some common grounds that we can all begin from. If the Democrats and Republicans can do that, then we can do much more.

@topic,

The emphasis by the Writer of the article seems to be for us to acknowledge our mistakes on our road to self-recovery. While it is true that one has to review past actions whether good or bad, I think what he has termed a mistake is actually the goal of our Politicians. The only reason why these Politicians keep doing the same thing over and over is becuase it is getting them the results they really wanted. So why the need for them to change?

Their past actions have gone unpunished and got them re-elected over and over again while enriching themselves at the expense of the Electorate. So what have they got to lose if tomorrow they do the same thing that gets them the exact same result - nothing. Do you think PDP think they made a mistake at the last election? I think not. To them, their only mistake is not having enough thugs in Lagos to carry the day. So you see, if anyone has made a mistake, it is not those in power becuase they got what they wanted, it is the rest of us that are being taken for a ride.

So what are we going to do about it? How do we ensure our votes are counted? How do we ensure our elected officials are accountable to us? These are the issues we really need to tackle. Saying more rests on our shoulders apart from the Government is wishful thinking. We have the responsibility to monitor our Government who in turn effects changes in real time. Like someone said: "There is no solution without a political soution."

There are some practical steps I plan to take in the future, and by that I mean as early as next year. But I know until their is a political will, nothing will get done unless I want to turn myself into an outlaw. I intend to share some of my ideas at the right time on nairaland, and I hope to get inputs and ideas from others as well.

Foreign AffairsRe: 9 Killed, 60 Injured Yesterday In US Bridge Collapse by TayoD(m): 11:12am On Aug 13, 2007
@denex,

A bridge collapsed in Minnesota USA during rush hour on Wednesday, 1st of August 2007.

At least 9 people were confirmed killed, more than 60 injured and a dramatic pile of rubble is what remains between the Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA.
Rescue operations have been ended and attempts are being made to recover any missing dead bodies and about 50 vehicles which plunged into the river. Rescue operations have been toned down due to the darkness and poor lighting conditions so as not to risk the lives of rescuers.

The department for homeland security of the US government has declared no sign of terrorism, but rather some form of engineering failure. The bridge collapsed at about 7 pm local time.
With all your huffing and puffing, you have not provided us with any links that confirm your assertion that 9 people were reported to be killed immediately after the tragedy. Like I said earlier, the same CNN you were claiming as your source only said 3 people were confirmed killed at that time. other local media claimed just one. Where you get your story from, na only you sabi. Instead of saying you were hallucinating, you would rather blame it all on conspiracy.

Several civilians were at the location and none has disputed the figures. Infact, it happens near the University of Minnesota where you can be sure of people not only raising eyebrows but also their voices if they noticed anything fishy. A whole Presidency can not even hide the details of the unlawful revelation of a CIA operative and you think they can get away with the lives of some Americans? I think not. I know you are aware that you have good company here. People who are willing and ready to expose the US if and when they could. They would not be silent if your case was right.

So my friend, take a chill pill and go by facts and not speculations.

@Pawpaw,

Why you no buy your brother TV instead of phoning him from America to tell him what is happening in Abeokuta. This is the problem I have with Nigerians in diaspora. Instead of buying your brother a Television, you would rather phone him from america to read him NTA news. This is beyond belief.
No be so o. Dem buy dem TV now, only say PHCN no gree dem watch with power failure. We den send dem money to buy generator, but petrol no dey. When dem eventually buy petrol, the petrol spoil d generator because na adulterated fuel. Na so dem carry the generator go give repairer but dem no fit go take am back now becuase Lagos Govt say dem must pay tax before dem go gree use am. So my brother, I go western union go send sh*t money wey dem take pay the tax. Na so dem carry the generator reach house.

As dem dey enter d house, na so omonile aka armed robbers, follow dem enter d house. Dem say dey come for their property i.e. the TV and the generator. Thankg God say dem no wound my brother sha. So u see, we dey try our best, but water pass garri for naija! Wetin more we go do? huh grin

@pilgrim_1,

That is why I've earlier mentioned that women came along to complete men, because God Himself said that it was not good that you guys should suffer in your loneliness (Gen. 2:18)
While the notion that Eve was created to keep Adam from being lonely is a generally accepted one, I find no evidence to support such a thought in scriptures.

If God's desire was to create man in His image, Adam by himself does not represent that image without a wife, which is where Eve came in. Eve makes Adam a true shadow of Christ and His Church which was to come. Adam without Eve represents Jesus without the Church while Adam with Eve represents the Christ and His Church. Adam was and could not have been lonely. Please think about it.
PoliticsRe: ICPC Recruits '10 Million' Nigerians To Spy On Governors, LG Bosses by TayoD(m): 12:01am On Aug 11, 2007
@topic,

While I think the idea of recruiting Nigerians to fight the scourge of corruption is good, I think there is something amis from the strategy being employed by the ICPC. If INEC could not even get a few thousand upright people to man the polls, what makes ICPC think they can recruit millions? undecided huh

Someone who is in touch with ICPC should please advice them on the following. The best way to monitor allocations is to set up an information center online. Each State's, LG's and Concil's allocation should be made available. The disbursement and destination of the funds should also be provided. This way, the information is available to ALL Nigerians and not just the select few.

A Government that claims to have carried out a project in a particular area will have to post pictures of the area prior to and after the project implementation. That way, those who live in the locality can prove the truthfulness or otherwise of such projects. While not only will this be effective, it will give all Nigerians the opportunity to watch how their money is being spent and eliminate the bureaucracy involved in managing 10 million people. Besides, once those selected few are recognised by the Politicians, they become easy targets, not only for physical harm, but targets of bribery.

@PTH,

@ TayoD, while i have always seen God as a man i don't think we can entirely define him in human terms as either male or female. Remember that Christ said that when we get to heaven we shall be as the angels who are neither male nor female.
You are right. God is neither a male nor female. I thought I made that clear in my write-up. The distinguishing features between a male and a female are in the flesh and not the spirit. And if God is spirit, He can never be defined in terms of beign male or female, becuase these are artributes found only in the flesh.
Christianity EtcRe: We Are Made In God's Image: How? by TayoD(m): 10:45pm On Aug 09, 2007
@topic,

While Seun might not realise, he said something that I believe is closer to the truth than most people will like to even consider as truth. I know a lot of people will ask questions, but I trust I can provide the proof from the scriptures that God is indeed a MAN. Before y'all begin to chop off my head, let me state categorically that by declaring God to be a man, I am not in any way saying that God is male, nor declaring Him to be female.

So the question is what is a man? A man by biblical definition is a "whole", while a woman is a "part". God is whole and not a part, and He can by that definition be refered to as man. And really from scriptures, we will see that not every male can be refered to as a man, only a married male is technically a man, because he now becomes the whole while his wife is the part.

This ties in very well with the topic being discussed. What exactly is God's image? Apostle Paul declares that simply in 2 Corinthians 4:4 the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. In other words, the image of God is Christ. So when God was thinking of creating man, what He had in mind was Christ, and that is why He created marriage which is the physical union that represents what Christ is all about.

Well, I guess I have provided enough food for thought, I'll continue from here later on.

My brother, shun lies. How can you say that African Americans sleep well without security concerns? Abi the whole US don become washington dc? All the ghettos and hoods are now safe to live in? Have they now converted them all to Beverly Hills? TayoD, I'm beginning to doubt that you are in this US that you claim. Abi na two America dey? No be America wey Washington sniper, Vtech shooter Azzam the American dey perpetuate their crimes? All the serial killers nko? Abi na only inside film them dey?
I dey talk armed robbers and u are here talking about people wey need psychiatric help. While the US and the world know the few people who are guilty of these heinous crimes, can u give us naija's statistics?

No be the America wey them dey sell gun to criminals they way them dey sell cocacola for traffic? Abi you fit come tell me say traffic no dey USA.
I don't even understand wetin u dey talk here, but I have every right to buy guns like any other person. But u know what? I never thot about it. I have no fence around my house except the one around my yard to keep my kids from going where I do not expect. I have no buglary prrof around my windows and doors. Despite all these in naija, armed robbers broke into our family house in Lagos and held us all captive. They broke into my house also in Abuja and only God knows how many times I witnessed armed robbery "Live" in Lagos.

Abi all the hangs don move go back to mexico? No be US wey even caesarian kidnapping dey go on? Where they slit open 9 month pregnant women and steal their babies from their wombs?
Can you list how many you know? While doing that you might want to find out how many ritual related deaths happen in naija daily.

No be for US the Italian Mafia dey concretise human being inside drum?
Please share your numbers with us and compare to the cult related deaths in our schools too.

MEND wey dey even kidnap and release, American press go dey complain. Majority of people kidnapped in the US ether attacked or homosexually attacked and killed.
The criminals are made to face justice here. How many face justice in naija?

Abeg TayoD, stop this kind talk. You just even made me check July murders in the US and I no fit count them finish.
Please give us numbers and compare with naija.

While it may appear that I am running naija down, that is certainly not my intentions. I am only trying to put things in perspectives.

I never did. Infact, I was staunchly opposed to it.

I'm sure you will support Thabo Mbeki's constitutional amendment  too. Or is it only George Bush constitutional amendment you support?
The constitution is a live document that the people can modify as deems necessary. For instance, Americans can amend the constitution to allow Shwarzeneger to be eligible to run for President. In other words, the majority must decide what they want and if the House and the Senate, the people's representatives make a law, it must be based on the people's will, else dem go hear am on election day.

PoliticsRe: How Will History Judge George Bush by TayoD(m): 12:32am On Aug 06, 2007

America will make a sound example out of Barrack Obama. If we want evidence that Blacks still have a long way to go to surpass coloredness, degradation, and discrimination in America, the upcoming presidential elections will serve as proof for many of us. I'll bet a nickel that most WASP-Americans view Obama as an incompetent waste of campaign space.
Are you saying anything outside of an Obama presidency is racism? Please explain, 'cos I for one will not likely vote for him. Voting on the basis of colour is a waste of your vote.

@Pawpaw,

I really hate it when the Nigerian immigrants to america come here boasting of how good america is.
But that is the truth, America is a good place. If it isn't, those people will be back in naija this very minute.

These are the people who come back home and tell people in their village of how rosy things are in america forgeting to tell them the downside of immigrants to america.
If they didn't, where did you get your info?

I have nieces and cousins all over america and I know the racism they face over there.
This is a fact. Whites in America are not as racist as the Blacks in America.

When oyinbos come to naija they expect houseboy/housegirl, driver etc. and foolishly we give them this undue priviledges.
Of course you can have same in America if you can afford it. So why the hating!

Yet our people will never tell the truth, thats why every young man wants to go abroad, the naijas in america should  lecture our youths about america, not make out like america is paved with gold.
What more truth do you want? America is full of humans and you can expect every vice you find in people to be manifest in the country. America is not paved with gold, but you can be sure of one thing, if you are hard working, you will be able to provide for your family. Same cannot be guaranteed in naija.

The only reason why I still look at what is happening in the USA is because of our African American brethren there. But from statements of people like Oprah and Rice, you will realised that they have been so massively brainwashed, they've become damaged goods.
Not only is it untrue that Ophrah made the statements you are ascribing to her, but it is bad taste for you to continue to use rumors as basis for your position. Please direct your efforts at the African's in the African continent. Believe me, the Africans in America are doing far better than the majority in the continent. Africans here have food on their table and shelter over their heads. They have electricity 24 hours a day and are not hounded by fear of armed robbers day and night. One of them has a good shot at the American Presidency while people like Tiger Woods are doing fine. The same opportunity is available to all Africans here. Try and make such happen for those in Africa before you spread your love abroad to those in the US.

Bush has just made another landmark achievement in perpetuating illegalities of the highest order. The Senate just approved a bill he sent to them on giving the government more freedom to spy on people's privacy without needing any warrant or approval.
I am surprised such an uninformed statement is coming from you. Any bill approved by the House and Senate and signed by the President becomes the law of the land. So where is the illegality you are claiming?

Once again, you are muddling up and confusing issues. What the President asked for is the right to listen in on any international call originating from, or destined to a Terrorist suspect even if it is an American on the other end of the line. I, like most Americans will want no obstacle in my Government's way to listening in on a conversation from an Al Quaeda rep.
