@ClimieNH89,

ClimieNH89:

It's a matter of being happy. If the Nigerian culture doesn't satisfy you, you can as well adopt another one.
This is not a matter of betraying your mother-land. haba! In this world there is something called survivor, when you are in a new land, you have to adapt to the new environment or you'll look totally isolated from everyone!
Can you please tell us what the Nigerian Culture is? Does Nigeria have a culture? Or are you trying to talk about the cultures of the various nationalities within the almagamation called Nigeria?

And by the way, you don't need to be in the US to lose your cultural heritage. The average Nigerian Artist today is busy trying to be an American, and the funny thing is that they are selling albums like mad. Maybe we should start by having Tu-face, Idris, Planteshun Boyz etc sing only juju music, fuji or highlife. That way, we can at least say that our charity began at home before going to the diaspora!
Politics / Re: What Should We Do About Osama Bin Laden? by TayoD(m): 10:15pm On Aug 26, 2007
@Mckren,

While it is good to know facts, it will also be good to understand how those facts can work together to create either a true picture or an illusion.

I am sure you will agree that it is not impossible that other members of Osama's family who are law-abiding could be lynched after 911. A responsible Govt will move to protect the innocent even when it doesn't seem popular. Ferrying those people to safety is a preventive move which I believe deserve some commendation and not condemnation.

Today, many hate Americans not because they have met any American personally, but because of the way they perceive America's President. If prejudice can go that far, surely anything could have happened to the Bin Ladin's who share the same blood with Osama after 911.

While I will not join the US Army just to find Osama, I will be ready to join the US Army or any Army for that matter to fight the ideology he so eloquently represents.

Of the 3 original races,the Negroid,(the first race),the Mongoloid,(the second race),and the Caucasoid,(the cursed diseased race),archaeologists have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that the oldest inhabitants of this planet were the Negroids.And what renders one a pure Negro is their nappy hair or woolly hair,not the color of their skin.Their royal crown is the sign of the first race,The God Race,the one race,the only race of living beings on Earth with nappy hair.We are the mothers and fathers of all others.
In other words, the race you consider "cursed and diseased" is actually the product of your so-called "God-race"! My guy, you need to go prepare yourself some ice-cold cool-aid and take a chill-pill to go along with it.

In order to be crystal clear, maybe you need to list the identities you really think Nigeirans abroad have betrayed. What stands you out as a Nigerian compared to other Nationalities? Your mentioning crack smoking seems way unfounded to me as I am yet to meet any Nigerian here that is that irresponsible. Maybe it is your neck of the woods. I will advice you introduce our local snuff to these our people so they can maintain our national heritage in diaspora. grin

@Seun,

So your heart was pricking you this past week and you picked up a copy of the Holy Book to read! We sha must to hear am anytime you dey have your issues of the heart. Nothing spoil, God sabi reach you wherever you dey.

In any case, na only David and Joshua you sabi read about? Why do you believe that biography and yet thumb your nose at clear passages that address your need such as John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life!
Why are you trying to justify your rebellion by such true stories, and yet ignore the story of the greatest Emissary of all time whose mission was clearly defined in 2 Corinthians 5:19 - To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them;

May God continue to prick your heart and eventually have His way with you.

Religion / Re: Who Is The Angel Of The Lord? by TayoD(m): 3:47pm On Aug 21, 2007
@ebos,

King David said "The Lord said to my Lord" Who's Lord did David refer to?
The scripture you referenced above is the very one that I plan to use to establish the fact that every manifestation of the Godhead in the OT is a manifestation of the Son.

@topic,

In responding to ebos question, I am sure we are all aware that the personage refered to as "My Lord" by David is actually the Son! While there are many ramifications to this phrase, I want to deal with its use as a title. In other words, every time the title "My Lord" is used in scriptures in reference to deity, it is a direct reference to the Son of God - Jesus Christ.

Now if we will take care to study each time that phrase is used in the OT, we can only come to one conclusion, the Angel of God is no other than the Son of God in His pre-incarnate manifestations. From Abraham, to Gideon and Samson's parents, the title "My Lord", which is a direct reference to the Son was used to address the Angel of the Lord. How then can we say this Angel is the Holy Spirit? Here are some of the scriptures that I refered to:

Abraham - Genesis 18:3 And said, My Lord, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant:

Gideon - Judges 6:12 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour. 13 And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the LORD be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt? but now the LORD hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.
Religion / Re: Who Is The Angel Of The Lord? by TayoD(m): 3:05pm On Aug 21, 2007
@topic,

This is one interesting topic to me, but I know it's going to take some time to discuss it, and I am not sure I've got that time. In any case, I'll see what I can do.

@lysaa,

This is not about any church as you have said, but can you tell us you do not attend Christ Embassy? This teaching that the Angel of the Lord refers to the Holy Spirit is rooted and grounded in that ministry and that is why I believe pilgrim_1 mentioned that. Are we now going to be so sensitive to others' reaction to the truth that we will not say the truth? I think not.

In any case, I have never seen the scripture stretched as much as you just tried to do with the word "Christ". In essence, you are trying to tell us that any time the word Christ is used, the emphasis is on the Holy Spirit and not Jesus the Messiah. That is very absurd. Like I mentioned in an earlier discussion, our focus, and the Bible's focus from Genesis to Revelation is not on God the Father or the Holy Spirit, but rather on the Son.

Now let us look at the fallacy of your logic from another perspective. If indeed Jesus became the Christ when He was anointed with the Holy Spirit which I believe is a reference to Jordan, how then can you refer to the Rock that followed the Isrealites in the Wilderness as the Holy Spirit which was not given to Jesus until some thousands of years after? Please provide a biblical answer to this and we shall continue from there.

Iroyin Agbaye!!!!

Intelligence reports reaching our desk suggests covert moves are now underway by a goup of Uninvolved Nigerians (UN) to bring this Mother-in-law of all battles between the NIN and the NID to a halt. To this end, Diplomat Babeelove has been appointed as the President of the UN. In her acceptance speech, she swore to do all she can to bring the war to an abrupt end only if it doesn't endanger her very self. Our correspondent reports that the move is bearing some fruits as some NINs and NIDs have now sheathed their swords and have registered with the UN.

In an equally notable report, there is evidence that 12-Star General PTH is not taking this lying low at all. To him, their is only one way to end this war, and that is to win on the battle field while humiliating the NINs. To counteract the actions of the UN, he has planted a mole amongst them with the sole aim of magnifying the differences between the group members. He was quoted as saying a house divided against itself cannot stand. Right now, he has introduced a new nomenclature to cement this divide. Some UN members are now known to refer to themselves as either Uninvolved Nigerians in Nigeria (UNN) or Uninvolved Nigerians in Diaspora (UND). No doubt this move has caused a major crack within the UN. We shall keep you posted as soon as we notice any improvement or more fissures. Carry Go!

Interim reports from the battle field suggests the NINs are running out of ammunition! The NIDs gatthered a few hours ago at the War Command Center to discuss this important development.

While the meeting is over, deliberations are still ongoing. The sudden reconciliatroy tone of the NIN's Field Commander Paw-paw hasn't gone unnoticed at all. Despite this, the NIDs are still threading very cautiously! The word is out that his reconciliatory tone might not be unconnected with a plea bargain to avoid being deported as reported by field correpondent babyosisi.

Others trying to get the praise for the development are now claiming they are responsible for this. Economist Soludo is in the fore-front with claims that his innovative suggestion to re-denominate the Naira is responsible. However, Agent Caradona is hotly contesting this claim by saying her trade mark boobs-flashing did the job. She recalls her encounter with Commander Paw-Paw in Zone 6 area of Abuja. Acording to her, she found herself cornered on all fronts during her tour of duty. Leading the assault against her was commander Pawpaw himself. Fortunately for her, PHCN took power and the advancing troops couldn't move forward. Seeing an opportunity for escape, Caradana quickly put her twin weapons to use. This time however, she needed more than to flash those weapons of mass distraction. She kept those boobs in full view of all the troops who were mesmerized to inaction. Sensing some will power from Pawpaw, she quickly moved those turbo-twins right in his face. In the heat of the moment, Commander Pawpaw's jaw dropped a few inches and he was heard to have said "life is good", though he meant to say "attack"! This provided Agent Caradona to make good her escape.

@Banderas,

You do realise that his ways, his life, and his principles are the same thing. I was asking about his person.
You are totally wrong. Jesus's ways, principles and His Life are completely different things. I'd be more than happy to discuss this with you if you so care.

Just a thought,
Let me give you some thought too. Let's make "LOVE" an example.

According to Jesus's principles, you must prefer your neighbour to yourself.

According to His ways, sacrifice without love is useless.

And His life tells you one thing: Jesus Himself is love.

We'll expand these as we go along!
Religion / Re: So Many Churches, So Much Confusion: How Come? by TayoD(m): 5:36pm On Aug 17, 2007
@Banderas,

I'm curious about one thing, When the bible said "Jesus the way, the truth and the life", was it referring to the person of Jesus, or to the way of life? If it's the way of life, I fear a huge number of christians are in for a great shock.
It encompasses His ways and His life. There is the Life of Jesus and the principles of Jesus. You need both. While His life gets you eternal life in heaven, His ways makes you pleasing before God and grants you success not only in this life, but a lot of reward in the hereafter!
Religion / Re: So Many Churches, So Much Confusion: How Come? by TayoD(m): 5:24pm On Aug 17, 2007
@topic,

We are told in the scriptures that "the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of God as the waters cover the sea." If in practical terms God determines that it will involve a church in every home, then so be it. Who are you to question His moves?

On the other hand, if you are concerned about the decay of our society despite these many churches, please imagine the society with none at all. You don't say you will no longer put salt in your soup becuase the last soup you eat didn't taste good despite the fact that salt was added. The salt (Christains) are not the problem.

There will always be differences in our beliefs as Christains, however, one thing remains the same and unchaged. We are all in agreement that Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life, and that no one can come unto the Father (God) without Him. We are all in agreement that God was indeed in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself. Anyone who deviates from this is certainly not a Christian.

Are there deceivers out there? Certainly. It is nothing new. Apostle John witnessed that even in his days, antichrists were already in manifestation. There is nothing happening now that wasn't happening then. Jesus said God's decision is to wait till judgment day to separate the wheat from the chaff. That He said is necessary in order not to uproot the wheat along with the thorns.

@Ono,

While I believe our problem is largely that of leadership, the problem has persisted in Nigeria becuase the followership has done nothing. The keyword here is action. If we had dealt with people like Babangida after his misrule, who would dare come out and attempt the same thing? Rather, our people glorify these nonentities and worship that which they should be ashamed of. Can you imagine babangida still having the effontery to want to rule Naija again? if not for Baba who single-handedly checkmated him, who will probably now be under the rule of Babangida Phase 2.
Politics / Re: Wallowing In Ignorance by TayoD(m): 2:55am On Aug 16, 2007
@Donzman,

It is pure fallacy to think a country can suceed without good government. If you think otherwise, you might want to share with us, a case in history. You talk about the case of the kid in Malawi and forget how indigenous our people have been through the years.

The citizens can only go so far! Without a government that leads the way with good laws, management of resources and protection of life and property, every step taken will eventually lead to no where. If Obasanjo did not provide the licence, there won't be anything like GSM in Nigeria today. Is it that the technology wasn't there in earlier administrations? Of course it was, but they thought telephones is meant only for the elite and our people were busy waiting on God saying "what will be, will be".

There is absolute truth in the statement that "There is no solution without a political solution." All revolutions reach their peaks with the establishment of a goivernment that truly seeks out the wishes and desires of the people. We can avoid a bloody revolution by simply making sure that our Govt do what we elect them to do. That way, the need for a bloody revolution cannot be established.
Politics / Re: Wallowing In Ignorance by TayoD(m): 1:53am On Aug 16, 2007
@topic,

What to do? Change our attitude. As Gandhi so eloquently put it, 'You must be the change that you wish to see in the world.'
Now going back to the issues under discussion. I'm of the opiniion that a vague solution is no solution at all. Saying the average Nigerian needs an attitudinal change is vague to me. What kind of attitude are you talking about? Going by the context of the whole write-up, one can partly conclude that the writer will like to see us more informed. I'm sorry, but what we need now is not more information but rather some action.

Believe me that the average Nigeirian is well informed, more informed about their surroundings than most Americans I've met are informed about theirs. The difference between both is that while the Americans will make their leaders accountable, Nigerians are waiting on God to do it for them. Can you imagine a Nigeria where the leaders are held accountable by the people? That will be the Nigeria of our dreams. All of us are here talking and postulating, throwing information around like its going out of business, but until we put what we know to practice, we will definitely not make any changes.

So what practical steps should we take? What should be our next course of action? These are the things we need to be discussing now and not just pointing fingers at each other.

@All,

The rate at which insults are traded on nairaland is becoming legendary. An article that is the product of such careful and deep thoughts shouldn't be bringing out these demons from people. What is wrong with us? Something tells me a physical assembly of Nairaland users might produce fisticuffs like we sometimes witness in our House of Assembly! Wetin now? Can't we trade ideas without insult? I am persuaded of better things concerning us all and I trust we can live up to such an ideal standard!

@topic,

I am in absolute agreement with Chxta with respect to the break up of Nigeria. I do not advocate nor advice for such a situation to ever happen. The reason is very clear. Any situation that involves two or more people will necesarily engender conflict. The high rate of divorce these days is an eloquent testimony to that. Our problem is not the conflict, but lack of the skills for effective conflict resolution.

To what extent should Naija be broken down before there is peace? Will the break up of Naija solve the problems between Ife and Modakeke or relieve tensions between the Ijaws, urhobos and Itsekiris? Are we now going to break up along the lines of every ethnic nationalities? That sounds more like confusion to me. As long as conflicts exist within the smallest unit of the society - the family, there will be problems within the society. Even siblings could find themselves sworn enemies of each other. We really need to wake up and realise that our problem is not our unity, but our prejudices.

I hope Tasma's submission is not based on prejudice, but I sure as well can relate with the postings.
