No one can tell you what to do. You have to figure that out yourself. As a civil engineer though, you will learn all the basics in school. Practice will allow you the opportunity to branch out into any field that you find work or passion. I will advise you leave your options open at this point and don't be too bothered about specializing.

Article 2.4 of the UN Charter authorizes the unilateral use of force only in self-defense, which means when attacked or when faced with an imminent threat of attack. In this case Iran is not attacking anyone.

So what if Isreal can clain that they are under an imminent threat of attack from Iran? Is that a legitimate reason to go to war? Afterall, Iran's President has been making a public charge to annihilate Isreal while building the capability to do so. What say ye about that?

Every kiss carries a message.  Some kisses are not sex.ual in nature and carry the message that "I care about you".  These are okay in public.  However, public kissing to satisfy a sex.ual need is a no-no, even in western cultures (at least in the US).  

In my opinion, an over the top public kissing and smooching is disrespectful to the lady.  It broadcasts to the public that the lady is nothing but a sex.ual object who is being utilized at that point in time to satisfy a sex.ual need. That's just not cool in my opinion.

Where exactly are you located? I have often wondered if we have competent engineers in Naija that are capable of designing overhead transmission lines. Are you more into the design aspect or construction? I tried to hook up with some local companies a while back who were more into the construction and not the design aspect of the job. We were planning on consolidating our skill sets as a fully indegenous one-stop shop for transmission line design and build. For one reason or another, the whole thing came apart.

So what voltage levels have you worked on? I have design capabilities and experience up to 500kV.

I am sure there are opportunities out there to work as a civil engineer. Maybe you are refering to the financial compensation as opportunities. Yes, you will have to start with little and the financial rewards will grow with your experience. This is true in every profesion out there.

I totally agree with you about the role of the Telecoms in helping out the civil engineering profession in Naija.  I started my civil engineering career at AIM Consultants in Lagos, a design engineering firm before I moved to one of the big two consultants for the Telcos. Yep, there was a lot to do as I travelled the length and breadth of Naija for the roll out plans.  I don't know, nor do I anticipate that the pace of construction will remain the same today.  As may be expected though, the need for facility maintenace crew will secure future work load for civl engineers and allied professionals.

Indeed, civil engineering spans across every area of our economic life.  Anywhere there is a built environment, you will find the civil engineer.  I currently work in the energy industry designing and building high voltage transmission lines.  With the need to find new energy sources which are mostly removed from urban areas, I have been very busy here in the US putting my skills for designing and building transmission lines and susbstations to work.  I never anticipated that I will be working in this field, but it has been and continue to be a very rewarding experience for me.

Why then do people like Bobby Jindal continue to win election in landslides even though they run in historically liberal area? What win over independents is not in showing them how we are not much different than liberals. Why should they go for liberal-lite when they can get the real thing?

They need independents and small pockets of upset liberals. Like I mentioned before, I don't like Romney. They guy is an actor and will play whatever part necessary to get elected. Unfortunately, I have no better words for Perry or Bachmann.

Romney can never win over enough liberals or independents to offset the votes he will lose from conservatives. McCain and Bush 41 have proven that.

Not exactly. McCain was thoroughly unable to rile up the base and get enough people excited - I blame that on his personality first. Furthermore there is almost always a changeover in parties after 8 years - so McCain was a long shot to begin with. Add his lack luster self, a young fresh Obama and the result is what we got.

No doubt the climate played a part. However, the addition of a conservative to his ticket boosted him a great deal. The bottom line about McCain is that he is a RINO and that dampens the Republican base.

The argument isn't even so much as calling for a 'moderate' per se. But rather someone that can appeal to independents. Herman Cain is as right as the others, yet his popularity across the board is very healthy. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I haven't seen any polling or analysis to suggest that any other group - other than the right conservatives - like Bachmann & Perry.

What appeals to independents is the strength of your conviction. What do the independents stand for anyway? You appeal to people's reason by convincing them that what you stand for is what will benefit them. Reagan didn't go around drumming down his conservatism. He articulated them well and people realised the guy was verbalising what they feel inherently. Prior to Reagan, anyone will get away with saying: ask not what you can do for your country but what your country can do for you. REagan changed that mentality and won the election not by going the Colin Powel middle ground way by saying people do not care for the size of the govt but whether the govt works for them (my paraphrase).

What do you mean by an Independent Conservative? Being conservative already asserts your independence. Like I said earlier though, most independents in the US are conservative leaning. How then can one jump to the conslusion that they will break towards the socialist in the WH when they have the option to choose a conservative?

I was even rooting for Perry when he cast his hat into the ring but his showing in the debates including some rather bizarre and strange moments has turned me off. He is not ready for a presidential run.

I agree. I was expecting more from Perry but all I got was a let down.

Besides, it is not the left wing media that is calling for Romney's selection, as far as I can see, the republican 'establishment' of Rove and co do want Romney to be the candidate.

I see you have fallen for the same propaganda that the Leftists media are spewing.  How can anyone say that Romney, an Obama-Lite, is the clear alternative to Obama?  Independents are fleeing Obama for a reason and I can't figure out how anyone can say the hope for the RNC is to offer a candidate who offers no clear contrast to Obama.

If we follow your logic about independents, then McCain would have being president today.  The only time it appeared that McCain was gonna win was when he chose a conservative as his running mate.  Everything you've said here about Bachmann and co was repeated in higher decibels when Reagan was running for President.  Why didn't the Independents flee Reagan at that time when he was unashamedly conservative?

Bush 41, became President riding on the back of a real conservative, Reagan.  He lost the preseidency when he moved big time to the center.  Histroy tells us repeatedly, the only thing that wins the White House for the RNC is conservatism because 60% or more of americans see themselves as conservative, or conservative-leaning.  Calling for a so-called moderate is to repeat the mistake and failure exemplified by McCain.

I didn’t vote in the last election.  I couldn’t get myself to vote for McCain.  Granted, I will likely hold my nose and vote for Romney if he were the nominee, but I doubt many other conservatives will.  The best way to dampen the conservative fire right now is to choose a RINO as the Republican candidate.  Makes you understand why the media is so keen to have Romney as the Republican nominee - that's a winning strategy for Obama.

Don't be too sure. If you notice, Romney's numbers have remained in about the same spot in all polling data, even though other candidates have been going up and down. In my opinion, Romney has his base that hasn't shifted and the stagnation suggests he isn't changing other minds to support him.

While I do not know who I will support, I know who I will not support in the republican primary - Romney. I believe this sentiment is shared by many in the Republican Party. So if other candidates fall by the way side, it is safe to assume their supporters will gravitate towards another candidate besides Romney. If the process works fast and many quit early to leave Romney and another aspirant in the game, the odds are Romney will be beaten hands down because the other candidate will likely win the support of the followers of those who are no longer running.

And yes, any one of those aspirants will beat Obama hands down!

This is the simplest question you asked.  The answer is simply found in 2Tim 3:16 - "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:  Psalm 109 and like chapters clearly illustrates some doctrines in the Bible.

I cant possibly be the only one who finds this Psalm disturbing, right? Bible about love, turning the cheek, forgiveness shouldnt have words like Psalm 109

I do not find the Psalm disturbing at all because I understand the nature of sin and its consequence.  The Bible clearly teaches that a "curse causeless shall not come".   The recipients of that curse clearly brought it upon themselves.

There is one other thing that you left out of what the Bible is about, and that is justice.  Remember that the scriptures say  that God must first be just before he can become a justifier.  Forgiveness and mercy may be freely given but they come at a price. Every sin that God has forgiven or overlooked in times past came at a price to a sacrificial lamb.  Those who do not receive forgiveness and mercy have clearly belittled or ignored the covering that is available to them through that sacrifice.

The cursees of Psalm 109 have clearly come to the point where they have totally ignored the forgiveness that is available through that blood.  David was inspired to proclaim curses (which is a consequent of sin) upon the cursees.  Psalm 109 is clearly a proclamation of judgment based upon past sins.  We also have the power to do same thing today, even though many have abused that privilege.  I believe it must take an inspiration by the Holy Ghost to determine who should be cursed and not the regular retaliation that people do today by cursing every enemy.  God is not a Babalawo that curses people because we seek his services.  It must be the other way round.

Some ask, where do I find this in the NT?  Well check out what Jesus says in John 20:23 - Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.  Retaining someone's sins is basically inviting a curse (consequences of their sins) upon them.  I don't believe John20:23 is to be applied lightly or subject to our whims.  This must be inspired by the Holy Ghost who knows the heart of men and can tell who is a son of perdition destined for hell.

I am not here to defend Cain but there is a school of thought here in the US that does not like hyphenating people's Americanness.  In other words, there shouldn't be African-Americans, Chilean-Americans, European-Americasn, Arab-Americans etc. There should only be Americans, Period!  Hyphenating it suggests dual allegiance and promotes discord and not unity.

If indeed Cain said that, then I suppose he agrees with that school of thought!

You come across to me as a likable person.  What frustrates me however is that the few times I have read your posts here, it smirks of both naivety and/or a poor grasp of the facts.

Saying Cain cannot hold his own against Obama is one of the most ridiculous statement I have ever heard.  Cain is a more informed person who has a grasp of real world issues than Obama could ever know.  I am inclined now to throw my support behind the guy, and his lecturing of Clinton a few years back convinced me that he will stand up to anybody with facts and figures.  Please take some few minutes and watch Cain lecture Bill Clinton in the video below.

Things don't work like that JeSoul. The company was not on the hook for the $50K, rather it was the insurance agency they hired for this scheme. Companies usually pay a premium to insurance companies for things like this. In the event that such a shot is made, the insurance company will pay the $50K in the name of their client company. The premium you would imagine, will be commensurate with the probability of someone making that shot.

Asking the insurance company to cough out $50K when the minimum requirement for a payout wasn't met is akin to asking Obama to pay Shell Oil stimulus money. It aint gonna happen!

Am I missing something here? From all indication, this is about the state government honoring an agreement. Why are we as Nigerians so lawless as to encourage our government to trample on contracts without recourse to a court of law? While there may be arguments about the 10% pay-off to Tinubu's receiving company, I am of the opinion that such an agreement was reached without arm-twisting one or the other party.

In my opinion, the 10% is okay considering that the Lagos State government does not have to employ the services of more labor force that will remain on Lagos State's payroll indefinitely while receiving pensions for the rest of their lives. At the same time, I doubt the govt will receive all that tax returns if left to civil servants that will embezzle the funds. Fashola has done so much because Tinubu made the finances available through tax collection. This is money that would otherwise not be available but for the skills of Tinubu. Don't let's lose sight of that fact.

See me see pres-elect o.  I don't know who gave you the idea that Glen Beck is my Pastor when I attend Rev Wright's Church every Sunday.  Unlike Obama though, I have been paying close attention to and agree wholeheartedly with the hate messages he has been spewing from the pulpit all this while.  I stand by my association with the good reverend and will not deny him even if America's chickens come home to roost 3 times like Peter's.

Actually it is freedom. You are free to choose whatever you want to do with your life as long as you understand that there are consequences to your actions. You have the freedom to go rob a bank, but be ready to face the music if caught. The DNC that claims to be the party of science should start by emphasizing Newton's first law of motion: "To every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction". In layman's terms - every action has consequences.
