If you check the early months of the war, Russia was advancing rapidly. They even made entreaties into Kiev but changed course. That wasn't a mistake. They don't want Ukraine to fall as western media would make you think. A totally inept Ukraine will be a load on Russia considering the fact that they share borders.
Also, this isn't a Ukraine - Russia war as you seem to think. This is a proxy way between Russia and NATO. Ukraine is only the battleground.

You say Russia had the choice of not going to war. Actually, this war should've started as far back as 2014 when Ukraine started hobnobbing with US and NATO despite the Minsk agreement.
Remember what caused the Cuban missiles crisis? It was this exactly scenario; Cuba and Russia were allies and when Russia wanted to build a missile base in Cuba, US invaded Cuba. The crazy thing is Cuba doesn't border US in any way except that it's close to the US mainland.

Contrary to what you think, this war has actually shown that Russia is far stronger than NATO expected. Even, despite all the sanctions (more than 200 from different countries so far) they've grown their economy by more than 14%. This is something unprecedented as economies are expected to retrogress during wartime. Even the US economy hasn't grown up to 3% since the past 3 years. This should tell you something 😀

Let's take it point by point.
1. Your first point about NATO being only 45% of the world adds no value to this argument. I stated that the world thought Russia would easily defeat Ukraine.
2 So far, almost all the gains Russia has made in the war were made in the first 3 months. They have lost more land area than they gained since after the first 6 months of the war.

Russia is fighting the poorest country in Europe and the support coming from the western countries is not up to 1% of their GDP.
If Ukraine can hold Russia with much less then 1% of the NATO nation's GDP, what more do you need to tell you that Russia is weaker than we all knew.
For example, the US has sent about $75 billion on Ukraine so far. That's about 0.3 of the US GDP and 10% of the US military budget.
Now this is what the US has given Ukraine in 2 years.
So work the maths, in one year, the US is spending less than 5% of it's military budget on Ukraine and Russia can achieve air superiority or dominant the battlefield.

Before 2022, Russia occupied 42,000 km2 (16,000 sq mi) of Ukrainian territory (Crimea, and parts of Donetsk and Luhansk), and occupied an additional 119,000 km2 (46,000 sq mi) after its full-scale invasion by March 2022, a total of 161,000 km2 (62,000 sq mi) or almost 27% of Ukraine's territory. By 11 November, the Institute for the Study of War calculated that Ukrainian forces had liberated an area of 74,443 km2 (28,743 sq mi) from Russian
occupation, leaving Russia with control of about 18% of Ukraine's territory.

There are always compelling arguments one way of the other. Russia had the choice of not going into war.
The world always knew that Russia was very strong. On the contrary, this war exposed Russians weaknesses.
Imagine Russia the second Strongest military not being able to make any important battlefield gains in over a year and not having air dominance over the course of the war. We all expected much more from Russia.

It's true that he caved in to the wills of the most powerful nations but there is no shame in that.

It's very foolish of Ukraine to have even entered a war with Russia in the first place, they should have done everything necessary to ensure that the war didn't start at all, na them still loose pass, nothing even happen for Russia, make them just swallow their pride and give up, simple.

The problem with many of us is that we are very one sided. We are not open to information from the other side.
Yes it's true that this war has wrecked Ukraine in many ways but thinking that it has been great for Russia is where you get it wrong. Both Russia and Ukraine may never recover demographically from this war.

You seem not to understand. Let me explain again. He is an independent not a republican. Independents are open to voting either for democrats or republicans. They are kind of in the middle. In some elections they vote one way and in other elections, they vote the other way. This does not make them pro Republican. Or pro conservative. Do you understand it now?
The believe that someone not voting for Biden makes him pro conservative is just false. Every election, there are thousands of republicans 2ho vote for democrats and vice versa.
