goofyone: One time I was on a DHC Dash-8, a turboprop, to some location like that. The plane was full and as we took off I don't think anyone expected any drama. It's a routine flight after all. Suddenly we started seeing smoke from engine no 1. Damn! The fan was slowing down and from all indications the engine was out. And this plane had taken off and was leveling. See wahala! Only we on the left saw it. Those on the right saw nothing. We called the attention of the flight attendant to it and she took a peek from a nearby window before hurrying away. I think the pilots must have seen it too, cos shortly an announcement came over the radio and they said they'd be turning back to the airport. See drama in the airplane. Turning wetin this is where you'll know even oyinbo people dey fear like craze. Some however tried to keep calm. I guess those are the ones who gave always expected to die in a place crash Anyways, i love airplanes and have seen a lot of airplane dramas in documentaries. I knew quite well the plane could fly on one engine, but even that knowledge wasn't exactly comforting at this trying time. The pilot managed the situation well, turned the aircraft (you'd hardly notice) and proceeded back to the airport.
We made a safe landing, switched planes and went back in air again. So much for a near miss.
Sometimes, i think. If the two engines had failed, that plane would have turned a glider that may have very well crashed into the dense neighborhood below and we'll all be history.
Anyways, who wants to talk plane dramas. Anyone had similar or worse experiences? what of air crash confidential? |

patches689: And so?
Official numbaccused of hiding the number! official numbers.
In South Africa it is illegal for the SANDF to hide casualties, because of a High Court Ruling in the 1980's regarding the issuing of the names of SADF personal who were killed in top secret missions in Angola.
Thats right, the oppressive army of the Apartheid Regime was more transparent than the Nigerian Army of today Yea official number is official number and Nigerian army official number is 150 2)your government was hiding their casualty number And was even acfused |

Travel › NCAA Suspends Discovery Airways AOC by tdayof(op): 8:49pm On Jan 13, 2015 |
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) on Tuesday suspended the Air Operators Certificate (AOC) of Discovery Airways Ltd. over its failure to carry out some corrective measures. The Deputy General Manager, Public Relations of the NCAA, Mr Samuel Adurogboye, told reporters in Ikeja that the suspension took effect from Jan. 8. Adurogboye said that the order would be in force, pending the outcome of a comprehensive review of the airline’s operations to be carried out accordingly. ``The NCAA has lately carried out a review of the operations of some domestic airlines after which letters of warning or suspension of AOC were served on defaulters. ``A case in point is an airline that failed to carry out certain corrective actions within one week from Jan. 1 to Jan. 7 as raised in an earlier letter to the operator. ``Consequently, upon the inability to address the issue raised, the authority in its Jan. 8 letter to the operator declared that pursuant to Section 35(2) and 3(b) of the Civil Aviation Act 2006 and Part 1.1.3.3.3(a)(1) of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations 2009, it hereby suspends the AOC of Discovery Airways Ltd.’’ he said. The spokesman noted that the NCAA had no desire to regulate any airline out of existence; however, it viewed any violation of safety regulations seriously. A senior official of Discovery Airways, who pleaded anonymity, disclosed that the company’s management was already looking into the issue with the regulatory authority. |
