EducationRe: I Applied For MSc But Foreign Supervisor Said School Is Accepting Me For PhD by Team16(op): 3:42pm On May 05, 2016
Thanks everyone for your input. I appreciate. I viewed my application this afternoon to see that it has been changed to PhD by my supervisor. So official I'm now a PhD applicant. To the prayer warriors in the house, I plead with you all to remember me in your prayers. Though it's not an easy task but with God all things are possible. He said he'll make a way for us in the wilderness. I strongly believe in him to make a way for me in the wilderness. Thank you all for your inputs. Your words have really encouraged me. In Igbo land, it is said when your father ask you to beat someone, you go with all boldness. I will embrace it with all boldness, determination and God willing, I will conquer it. Thanks all.

I dey wait for this kind juicy offer.
Since it's a PhD, you should be fully funded.
By the way, don't be scared. You'd do a year of coursework before you start your research.
Wish you all the best
Thanks bro, how the hussle. Any offer from your schools yet.

No para my guy... Buckle your shoes up, you will be fine..

M.sc and PhD are similar only few extra classes and a little indept research than M.Sc.

Also check with the school they might give you full scholarship and a monthly stipend if you become a teaching assistant..

Note: if you accept a teaching assistant job, dont try to form phonetics grin they wont understand you... Just speak your normal 9ja tongue but louder..

Goodluck ma guy cool you will enjoy it... So no para, no one will ask you to buy this buy that for practical.. Just show up for your classes and do your research diligently.. Your professors plus post - docs are there to help..

Cheers!
Thank you bro.

negotiate for a better future bro. Tell the prof your budget us for MSc but you can only take up a PhD if you can find a full scholarship. He must have seen great potentials in your work so don't worry too much about MSc.
Okay I appreciate. Even the MSc.E I applied for is full funded. So I'm not looking at funding as an issue here. That's why I didn't put anything relating to money in my post. Thanks All the same.

Guy don't ponder over it any further because it really shows that your admission is sealed already and funding would be available for u probably. This is exactly what a close pal of mine experienced when he gained admission into university of Alabama in US which is direct PhD.Its the best option for you so grab it with both hands.
Okay. Thanks

Young Man, Accept the PhD track. It is an all win win situation. Think of it this way, if you are not cut out as a PhD material, they will award you your masters degree. Believe it or not, you might be taking some masters' level classes if you are deficient in certain areas. Another thing you need to know, unlike in the UK, PhD students in the US and Canada take classes a lot for one or two years while conducting research at the same time. So you will not be left behind just because you feel you are not prepared enough. One more fact, some schools admit BS holders directly into the PhD program and this practice is common for chemistry, Finance, Economics, Chemical engineering, etc. By no means does direct admission into a PhD program makes it a cake walk, but just like you were a JJC in your freshman year, and you made it through your final year, you will also become a JJC in the PhD class but you also make it. As the saying goes, there is nothing to fear but fear itself. Finally, Nigerian students excel quite a lot in overseas schools because they typically hunker down and get the job done. But be afraid and burn the midnight oil if you have one or more original Chinese or Indian students in your class. Take the Plunge with the offer of PhD admission and ride into the sunset.
I appreciate bro. Thanks

Bro I appreciate. My interest in a PhD isn't to be lecturer now. My research is industrial based and applicable to government related issues in terms of making policies. Job prospects, I'm looking at IEA, IAEA and the likes. That's my plan and before now I wanted to take it one step at a time before this offer came in this afternoon and I need to reply tomorrow.

Bros, go for your MSC!! Its one step at a Time!! No hurry Bro ... Even the overall Unilag Best Graduate with Record breaking 5.0/5.0 will never skip msc for Phd. You don't get double promotion for Higher Degrees unlike primaries or high school. Its just a matter of 1yr and 6 months Max! And you're done with MSC. So why the Rush or hurry bro?
I appreciate your input bro. I think academically my supervisor knows a talent when he sees one. The guy is a professor emeritus. I think he's seeing what I'm not seeing yet. Don't you think someone can help you discover your destiny looking at your background. Talking about skipping MSc, I have a lot friends that have done it n came out successfully. My fear is i changed from Chemistry to Chemical Engineering and now about to skip MSc to PHD in Chemical Engineering. If it had been in Chemistry I for no bother. Don't say I'm confused cos I know what I want, in MSc I would be very comfortable and excel without fear but PhD, i don’t know what lies ahead for me. That's why I need advice from people who have schooled abroad. Thanks

Don't panic bro, accept it. After all you may be asked if you wish to stop after M.sc or proceed directly to p.hD.
Since p.hD is your ultimate goal, this is a rare opportunity for you, grasp it!
Okay bro. Thanks. I appreciate

I am very sure your academic transcript has been duly reviewed before your supervisor made such disclosure. You are not a starter in PG education going by your diploma in chem eng. So pull yourself together and be ready for the cognitive demands of PhD programme. On a final note.... do Nigeria proud! best of luck!
Thanks doc. I appreciate your input.

Please oga se.un help me push to the front thread cos I need to reply this mail today.

I have a B.Sc Industrial Chemistry ( 4.01/5), Pgd Chemical Engineering ( Distinction ).

I applied for a Canadian admission for MSc.E Chemical Engineering. Normally for your admission to be successful you need to secure a supervisor whose research interest is similar to yours. I have done that and he encouraged me to apply. I submitted my application and after going through my application with other supporting documents like letter of motivation and others, he sent me a mail this afternoon that they want to consider me PhD instead of MSc I applied for. I'm very confused right now if to accept it or not considering high standard of education abroad as I use to hear, I haven't experienced foreign education before, this is my first. Please note my ultimate goal is to obtain a PhD. Please help me push to the front thread cos I need advice from experienced Nigerians who have studied abroad. Thanks. I appreciate

Personally speaking, I will say both of us are in same situation. Unilag, First class, oil company job but bro with how bored work is, I'm janding oh. It's quite tough securing admission in canada if you know what I'm talking of, especially the one that comes with funding cos you have to get a supervisor who has same research interest with yours. Luckily, I have one now n it's coming with funding. Hopefully, if I get my admission letter b4 this month runs out cos my supervisor just forwarded my name to admission committee and has recommended me for MSc to PHD direct in his group, I'm leaving this country bro. You know how the industry is right now and how the future of this country is going. I hope it gets better soon but presently now, I don’t want my kids anywhere close to this country for now (my personal opinion and desire). However, if you really want to be on top your game n be an authority in your field n have the desire to further till PHD, i think you should kill your fears and move on. Good things lies ahead. IMO.

Mine took 3 weeks but then, I did some leg work. It usually takes Considerable time b4 ur application gets to the department from the graduate. In my case, I sent all my docs including a proof of payment of the application fee to the department's office manager who quickly packaged my file to d Ad Com. As someone stated, schools are in their exam period n maybe they haven't had time to sit. But then, summer is here already n u she hv heard from them. Try n contact them, n just in case they say summer is too late; tell em to give u consideration for fall.
After the long wait, my file went to the department on 21st of April, since then if I call the response I get is that i should be patient cos they're yet to hear from the department. They don't respond to my emails. Takes them 2wks b4 I get a response from any email. However, is it advisable to ask them to shift it to Fall cos from the look of things now, summer starts from next month and I don't think I can meet up with the visa issues. Or should I wait after I must have been admitted then I'll differ to fall. Which is better?

how far? These guyz frustrating u with this their admission ish o. Don't worry, give me ur name, department and school; lemme check the admission list for you. I sure say ur name go dey VC's list, just make sure u hv ur acceptance fee n keep my 50k runz money. Keep another $500 wey we go take organize chics or gay boyz for the admission committee, who tell u say corruption no dey yankee. grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

But jokes apart, and with no malicious intent whatsoever; can I bribe a yankee prof for grades? I feel it should be very possible. Besides, it is an open secret that those guyz used to pass student atheletes. What u think?
Bros, please how long did it take you to get a response from Tamuk. I have been waiting to hear from them for more than a month now, yet no response. They kept on saying I should be patient. I applied for summer admission MSc. Chemical Engineering. Please, what do you advice I should do. Thanks

Which card were you using before now. Normally, I use Mastercard for all foreign transactions and it has been working for me. I use Visa, Mastercard, and paypal definitely one must go through. Maybe next time you think of having them all. I have never had an issue with payment because definitely one must go through.

The school I'm applying to university of windsor has no option for PayPal .just western union and credit card.
Or can PayPal serve as a credit card.
If they request your credit card info, then you have to enter your debit card details. The debit card can stand as your credit card, make sure you enter the 3 digit number at the back of your card, the numbers in front of your card, and expiry date . I think this will help.

Greetings bro. Good to know you've put in your application already. Your academic standing is very cool and since she encouraged you to apply, you don't have any cause for alarm, WCS you defer to winter session. Were you able to get a supervisor before applying cos that's a determinant to your getting a fast and favorable response.

And yes sir, I school at Queen’s, Chemical Engineering.

Goodluck in your application and hope to see you soon.
I'm very pleased that we're in same department. Please is your official name Ikenna? Yea, i think that's what it'll lead to deferring to winter cos she said if It's not possible this fall then winter or summer whichever one that works out. I'll need your help with regards to securing a supervisor because the one's I mailed said they're already full that I should keep on trying. Laurie said even though it is necessary, i don't need to secure one b4 applying. I know it's needful to secure a supervisor before applying in order to fast track my admission. Due to the fact that it's a system you're into please can you help with list of supervisors you think I can speak with? . I have spoken to some of them n yet no positive response, the likes of li, guay, etc. I saw your comment about anyone who wants control options should contact you, how about that? Is it still open? These are my options process system engineering, fuel cell, and environmental. Please who do you think I should speak to that can give me a positive response. Thanks

Bro, i greet o. I'm applying to Queens University for Fall 2016 even though i submitted my application late that was yesterday. I did that because Laurie Philips encouraged me to. I'm applying for MSc Chemical Engineering (option Process system engineering). My stands are BSc Industrial Chemistry (4.01/5) and last 2yrs of BSc is 4.375/5; Pgd Chemical Engineering (4.48/5). Please what's my stand and when do you think i would hear from them? Please are you in queens and what department are you in. Thanks

Bbdd, why r u so passionate about 'staying back in America'? Yes, America is a very good country but she has her own issues. I don't think it is right to put people down because they would consider coming back to Nigeria after their studies. It's just unfair. What even makes you feel you will NEVER come back to Nigeria? You don't know the future. What if you are struggling to get a good job in America and suddenly a good opportunity turns up for you in Nigeria? I have so many friends and colleagues who came back from America to work for multinational coys in Nigeria and doing very well. Being smart does not guarantee a good job anywhere including Nigeria and America. There are a million and one smart pharmacists, you know...

Anyway, I think everyone is entitled to their opinion. Not nice to be judgemental. We don't know where individual future lies. If you really want to remain in America, I really wish you the best but just know that remaining in America may not be the best decision for some other person.
Wow Fablady what's up. I remember you from the Canada's thread. How is it going with you. Are you in the states now? Did you try contacting them at Alberta again. For mua still waiting for my admission offers from US n Canada. Good to know you are still hanging on.
