Thanks Vcole.

We are on PR and almost at the final stage.
Hubby is the primary applicant hence my question about him going first then I’ll join later with the Children.

vcole:
Welcome freeradical!

@teatop1234, you should note that the process of arriving Canada as a pr and as a student or a sowp holder are very different. I strongly advise that you and your family apply for your visas together. Husband for student permit, you for sowp and kids on dependent visas. You would get more info if you go on the Canada student visa thread.

It is worthy of mention that some families have moved to Canada like this and often times the spouse gets a job and within a year is able to sponsor the whole family under the cec class for pr.

Those schools you mentioned are private schools. Masters academy is the best school in Alberta while clear water and Webber fall into the top 10. So you should understand why their fees are on the high side. Aside from fees, there is no guarantee your kids would get admitted because they usually have a wait list and admission is competitive. That not withstanding, if you are interested in those schools then you should contact them to find out their wait list procedure. The public schools are free and don't require any fees. I don't know about the school you mentioned but if you are looking for "scholastic" schools within the cbe school system then you should look up "tlc" schools and read up about their wait list procedure.

Hello Vcole & other gurus in Calgary,

I tried to PM you yesterday but was unsuccessful.

After reading Josh’s Canny experience posted by @Yokus (though his write-up was 8 years ago) yesterday, I came to a conclusion with hubby that it’s better he travels first so as to sort out schooling and housing palava then we join against next session / summer I.e. June / July next year. I also read some counter arguments that Josh became focused on his job because he was constantly reminded of his obligations and that if he had travelled alone, he might have given up and returned to India. Wht’s your take guys?

To the veterans, how easy is it to settle down with Children and hunt for Jobs? Rembr, there isn’t any job waiting and the kids shouldn’t also have a gap in education. What is the probability of getting a job in the province one decides to settle I.e. house rent is running, kids are already in school and no job yet?

Also, the Calgary peeps - the Catholic schools are not that cheap. Clear Water / Webber / Master are asking for Family bond of about CAD10k. What do you think of the public school called Jennie Elliott ? I read that it’s a top school in SW Calgary but don’t want to base my decision solely on internet statistics.

Thanks

Same here. It was a terrible experience for me. I lost two full bags which they valued at $400 or so in 2012. Way cheaper than what it’s worth. Kpshew

Me I will never fly lufthansa ever again. Stingy airline... Mscheew
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by Teatop1234: 8:43pm On Oct 09, 2017
What would you then say about Lufthansa on missing baggages? grin

Turkish airline is pretty good. I’d love I ride with them again. My Children loved the goody bag and the entertainment. Would recommend.

Hephgirl:
my friends has... And all gave positive reviews.
They are known for misplacing ur bags... But mostly on ur return leg... Which doesn't apply to u.
I can't remember any negative review.

Did you erroneously select the education band? Did you use an agent? Check what your ECA report says and forward same to them. Also attach copies of the credentials.

holubukola:
I got PFL about one and half hour ago.

A Canadian Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD degree or an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report produced by a designated organization indicating that your foreign education is the equivalent of a Canadian Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD degree. o Based on the results of your Educational Credential Assessment, your foreign education states that you currently have the Canadian equivalent of two diplomas and one graduate certificate in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Electrical and Electronics Engineering Technology. .... so I posted here about a month and half ago that the doctor that did medicals for my family called that I require an additional test. Scary much! so I asked if anyone has gotten such request before but I didn’t receive a response. The call came on a Saturday while I was having fun at an “owanbe”. My mood changed immediately but had to succum to some liquors. I waited impatiently for the weekend to pass by. On Monday morning, i took time off work to see the doctor who confirmed all was well but just that they weren’t clear about a certain result. Then I left but still wasn’t entirely convinced. Anyways, we received AOR on Sept 19 and happy to inform you that we passed medicals today Sept 26. More good news to come

The cut-off point may go as low as 415 soon again but If you have suffiecient funds to pay for both NOI and EE without it affecting your POF, you may proceed. Nothing much to loose other than money while you save time on your Canny journey.

All the best!

phf2be:
At 424, shouldn't I just take this NOI from Ontario and run? Is there hope for ITA? sad huh

@Yokus,

Nigeria is a highly regulated economy and as such, one can hardly convert Naira into a foreign currency except if the transaction relates to an international trade. However, there are exceptions provided by our Government which is a limitation of $4000 for personal travel allowance, certain amount for school fees and medical fees which of course requires some documentations. So For instance, many families would likely relocate with a minimum of USD 20,000 but can only get about USD 8,000 for PA and spouse and maybe more if a dependent is 18years and above. The balance will need to be augmented from other sources such as bureau the change which is absolutely not illegal.

For other payments that requires dollars, since the transactions are not eligible for FX in banks, the PA will also buy USD with Naira from bureau de change aka black market to fund their master cards and effect payments.

Trust this clarifies.

Yooku:
Great job you guys are doing.Apologies to ask this question. No harm intended, i'm not Nigerian so don't know the situation inland but I see a lot of people suggesting to buy dollars from "black market" ie through unofficial channels like individuals etc I suppose. Why this route? Is getting dollars from the bank/forex bureau difficult, or is it a way to avoid their high charges and get more dollars for your Naira? The only reason I would be compelled to go to the black market is when I want to change dollars and get a higher rate because of the lower rates of the forex/banks. Even that is not a norm, I believe most people in my jurisdiction deal more with the official market than black market. Some clarity will be appreciated
