seunfly: From own political calculation the best way to break Get leg is to feild a strong northern man and a very popular and nationwide acceptable igbo candidate from east may okoracha, dora akunyeli, okonjo iweala etc.
Why?
1 Those are the two group who are despirate to see their peaple in State house Abuja and they deserve it.
2 Southwest vote is going no where other than where their group are going i.e the already have southwest vote all they is give assurance of key political office.
3 S.E vote need to be hijack from pdp, hence they need to give them that V.P slot to weaken pdp in that area.
4 There are already disgruntle element in the S.S which will make easy to score 25% required all they is to need is to identify them, make few promise to them and the vote is theirs
5 Middle belt will be divided, we all know what they did in kwara for them to declear pdp winner over ACN even in kogi, and we all know that Nasarawa state, Niger,Benue, Pleatue and Taraba may be pdp.
6 I know Buhari is very popular in the north but if they can present credible parson like him, they will capture majority of north.
@bolded, i dont think it work like that bro. If you think you could sway SE vote by offering them VP slot, then you must be a joker. Was former pdp chairman from SE not pulled down by his fellow SE kinsmen? And after he was pulled down, the SE govs refused nominating any SE person for replacement. Check it, SE people hardly respect themselves or rally round an individual. But they are sure and quick to rally round a cause, especially a cause that they believe is theirs to champion.
When Abiola won the elections, was a SE man his vice??

The drive to dislodge the ruling party in Nigeria, the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] against the upcoming presidential elections of 2015 appear to have begun. This is as the recent announcement of a merger of four major political parties [Action Congress of Nigeria, Congress for Progressive Change, All Nigeria Peoples Party and All Progressive Grand Alliance] into a unified party – renamed the All Progressive Congress [APC] has promised to truncate the PDP’s reign at the presidency come 2015.

Information available to 247ureports.com obtained from a competent source involved in the merger process revealed that the stakeholders of the new party met for a closed door meeting on night of Thursday February 7, 2013 to discuss on sharing of principal offices between the four political parties. The four principal offices to be discussed were said to be – the office of the President, Vice President, Chairman of the new party and the Secretary to the Federal Government of Nigeria. The source indicated that by the morning of Friday February 8, 2013, the four positions would have been allocated to each of the units that came together to form the new party.

On the issue of Governorship elections, the source revealed that it was resolved to be handle State by State. As gathered, each state will be handled separately – in that – the gubernatorial candidate will emerge from the party that is the most popular among the four units that formulate the new party. For instance, where the ACN party is considered more dominant amongst the other parties in the State – the gubernatorial candidate will emerge from the ACN – and then the deputy governor would emerge from the other three less popular parties.

-

The stakeholders are expected to make a public announcement on which unit will produce the presidential candidate.

Stay tuned

When US, Russia, Isreal etc build any new weapon and especially war planes etc. Its goes to media with the result of its latest tests, its operational capabilities and if possible test on battle field. They even release videos of it like the anti-missile shield upgrade Isreal made to their markeva tanks.
However Iran releases a stealth fighter jet on a table Podium. Very funny. If Iran was serious, let them send the stealth fighter to help their friend Assad. They have a test battle field close by. Why send Assad only mortars when you have a stealth Jet that the rebels cant down.

PoliticsResponse To: A Dangerous Trend In The Nigerian Army by TechRev(op): 6:59pm On Feb 02, 2013
RESPONSE TO: A DANGEROUS TREND IN THE NIGERIAN ARMY

It has come to our notice that there is a campaign by some unscrupulous and unpatriotic elements whose intentions appear to be bent on destabilizing the Nigerian military and nation at large. This campaign is being propagated in the form of a spurious article being circulated that alleges that the Nigerian Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Onyeabor Azubuike Ihejirika is on some sort of sinister and clandestine operation to “Igbonise” the Nigerian Army. The COAS has been accused of selectively promoting only Igbos at the expense of others. Well, nothing can be further from the truth, and this will be demonstrated in a very clear and dispassionate analysis in rebuttal to the openly biased and ethnically tinged attempt by some disgruntled elements.

What this hatchet job of an article has done is to selectively focus on the promotion of four officers, and then proceed to make bold claims that these promotions were ethnically motivated because the said officers were of Igbo origin, and then conjure up a justification of why their promotions were ethnically motivated by employing a lot of hyperbole and incredulous reach in drawing conclusions from far-fetched inferences. The elements behind this very dishonest article have done this while ignoring the holistic picture of all promotions within the different cadres of the army. They focused on the promotions of Brigadiers Ugwu of the Ordinance Corps, Nwaogbo of the armored corps, Agha Okoro of the Supply and Transport Corps, and Chioba of the Corp of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers only. How can this be a complete picture when 43 Brigadiers where promoted Major Generals in 2011 and 22 promoted in 2012?

Now let’s examine the promotion exercise of 2011 based on available information:
On November 10 2011 the Vanguard published the following story on Army promotions:

The Nigerian Army Council has approved the promotion of 25 major- generals and 43 brigadier-generals, the largest number ever promoted at a go.
Following the recommendation of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Azubuike Ihejirika, those elevated from Brigadier Generals (one star) to Major-Generals (two stars) are Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier-General R.I.D Isa; Director of Military Intelligence, Brigadier-General A.T. Jibrin; Director of Operations at Army HQ, Brigadier General G.A. Wahab and Defence Adviser, New York, Brigadier General G. Audu.
Others promoted Major Generals are Brig-Gen. K.C. Osuji, Brig-Gen. F.S. Owonibi, Brig-Gen. Agha-Okoro, Brig-Gen. D.D. Kitchner, Brig-Gen. B.T. Oginni, Brig-Gen. E.R. Chioba, Brig-Gen. J.M. Ogidi, Brig-Gen. S.U. Labaran, Brig-Gen. A.A. Martins, Brig-Gen. A. Chukwu, Brig-Gen. M. Idris, Brig-Gen. L.N.K. Banjiran, Brig-Gen. S.U. Audu and Brig-Gen. E.F. Abejirin.
Also promoted two star-generals are Brig-Gen. T.O. Umar, Brig-Gen. H.G. Aminu, Brig-Gen. I. Sani, Brig-Gen. A.G. Ewanshia-Oloni and Brig-Gen. P.K. Ikumonein.
A statement confirming the promotions was signed by the Chief of Staff, Army Public Relations Department, Col. Usman Abdul.
Among the Colonels promoted to the rank of Brigadier-Generals are Colonel Leo Erabor, PSO to the Chief of Army Staff, Col. O.O. Adeleke, Col. J. Alexander, Col. T.K. Golau, Col. M.M. Dan-Ali, Col. L.O. Adeosun, Col. E.A. Ransome-Kuti, Col. J.T. Abubakar and Col. S.E.U. Ekanem.
A statement confirming the promotions was signed by the Chief of Staff, Army Public Relations Department, Col. Usman Abdul.

Now we can begin to see the falsehood being peddled in the allegation that Ihejirika’s promotions were ethnically motivated to favour the Igbos as the list provided shows no such trend. Let’s take a count of Brigadiers and Major Generals promoted against their ethnicities since this is where the focus of the disgruntled elements seems to lie. Below is a list of 23 Brigadier Generals promoted to the rank of Major Generals in 2011. It will be instructive to compare the number Igbo officers promoted to the number of officers of other ethnic groups promoted:
1. Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier-General R.I.D Isa - North
2. Director of Military Intelligence, Brigadier-General A.T. Jibrin - North
3. Director of Operations at Army HQ, Brigadier General G.A. Wahab - North
4. Defence Adviser, New York, Brigadier General G. Audu.- North
5. Brig-Gen. K.C. Osuji---------- SE
6. Brig-Gen. F.S. Owonibi------ SW
7. Brig-Gen. Agha-Okoro------- SE
8. Brig-Gen. D.D. Kitchner- (Unverified)
9. Brig-Gen. B.T. Oginni------- SW
10. Brig-Gen. E.R. Chioba------ SE
11. Brig-Gen. J.M. Ogidi----- (Unverified)
12. Brig-Gen. S.U. Labaran--- North
13. Brig-Gen. A.A. Martins---- SW
14. Brig-Gen. A. Chukwu------ SE
15. Brig-Gen. M. Idris--------- North
16. Brig-Gen. L.N.K. Banjiran---- (Unverified)
17. Brig-Gen. S.U. Audu----- North
18. Brig-Gen. E.F. Abejirin---- SW
19. Brig-Gen. T.O. Umar----- North
20. Brig-Gen. H.G. Aminu---- North
21. Brig-Gen. I. Sani--------- North
22. Brig-Gen. A.G. Ewanshia-Oloni----SS
23. Brig-Gen. P.K. Ikumonein----------SS

Out of 23 names only four (4) appear to be Igbo names; Osuji, Agha-Okoro, Chioba and Chukwu; now that is only 17% of the number of Brigadiers promoted to Major Generals in 2011 as published by the Vanguard in November of 2011. The SE is one of 6 geopolitical zones in the country, and simple math tells us that if geopolitical zones were taken into account during promotions of officers, as it should in such a polarized and tribalised country as Nigeria, that is exactly 17% of promotions per cadre per geographical zone, given there are personnel from each zone available to be promoted. So what is the source of this contrived brouhaha? Is this not much ado about nothing? Who could be behind this, but those bent on destabilizing Nigeria for whatever selfish and nefarious ends they may have?

For good measure, below is a summary of the 2012 promotion details as published in National Mirror on December 20 2012:

Director, Army Public Relations Department, Brigadier General Bola Koleoso, who was promoted to the rank of Major General, in a statement, listed those promoted to the substantive rank of Major General to include:
1. Brigadier General NO Ojiji of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC);
2. Brigadier General HA Salihu; Commandant, Depot Nigerian Army,
3. Brigadier General SZ Uba of the Defence Headquarters
4. Brigadier General ET Nienge of the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport.
Brigadier General David Enetie of Headquarters Infantry Corps Centre,
5. Brigadier General Mashudy O. Adekanye of the Nigerian Army Ordinance School, Commander of 23 Brigade Nigerian Army
6. Brigadier General John N. Nwaoga and Brigadier General Patrick G. Ogah of Army Headquarters Directorate of Training and Operations.
Brigadier General Donald MN Oji of Nigerian Army Signals School
7. Brigadier General Tanko Y. Gaiya of the AFCSC
8. Brigadier General Bamidele O. Ologundudu of the Nigerian Defence College (NDC)
9. Brigadier General Abbas O. Adekanye of the Central Workshop; Commander 1 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Tamunomieibi I. Dibi; Commander 2 Brigade
10. Brigadier General Tukur Y. Buratai; Commander 4 Brigade
11. Brigadier General Obi A. Umahi
12. Brigadier General Chuckwudi BB Odunukwe of the Directorate of Data Processing; Defence Attache to China
13. Brigadier General Sulaiman D. Aliyu
14. Brigadier General Junaid S. Bindawa of the Nigerian Army Armoured School (NAAS)
15. Brigadier General Obidah T. Ethan serving in the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL)
16. Brigadier General Obasina A. Ogunbiyi of the Nigerian Army Medical Corps
17. Brigadier General Friday M. Airende of the Special Vehicle Plant

New GOCs and Head Quarters:

- GOC of 1 Division(Kadunawink, Maj Gen.Wahab ---Northerner
- GOC of 2 Division(Ibadan, Oyowink, Maj-Gen. Ahmed ---Northerner
- GOCs of 3 Division(Jos, Plateau), Maj-Gen. Ebiobowei Awala----SS
- GOC of 81 Division(Victoria Island, Lagos) is Maj-Gen. Obi Umahi---SE
- GOC of 82 Division(Enugu), Maj-Gen Ashimiyu Olaniyi -------SW

Again here there is no sign of inequity in the promotions favouring any particular ethnic group as alleged. In fact two officers who were alleged not to have been promoted – Nienge and Adekanye are on this list, and this is not even an exhaustive list of all promoted! So what is the game here? Obviously it is not one that bodes well for the stability of the country.

The article is fraught with hateful language and innuendo; several officers promoted who happen to be Igbo are referred to as “the Igbo boy” . There is so much warped logic and impossible extrapolations and conclusions drawn from inconclusive analysis that will make one dizzy, for example, one Col Soloye is alleged not to have been promoted because of his “outstanding personal and professional records”.

How preposterous!

They continue this incredulous reach by further stating that “The plan here, just as in the case of Oyekan, is to slow down this rising star who might get in the way of Igbo officers “destined” by General Ihejirika to rise above him”.
Again, how preposterous! What is the source or proof of this bold conclusion? Unless this article was produced by superhuman mind readers this is pure baseless conjecture of the highest order. It is important to note at this juncture that none of the officers’ records who have been described as “outstanding” and being overlooked for promotion have been independently vetted. These are just claims by faceless disgruntled elements. Until independently vetted, they remain just claims. Another example of this superhuman mind-reading faculty demonstrated in this article is the case of one Col. Jidda, who for whatever reason was not promoted at a certain time, but the mind readers have gone ahead to explain that “the idea is for Jidda to wait for the Igbo boy to graduate from NIPPS so they can be presented next year with other officers from NDC course 21. Most likely, some Igbo officers would then edge out Jidda who will then suffer the faith of Col Oyekan and Col Soleye”.

Incredible!

Normally these types of baseless claims will not see the light of day in a civilized society, but we are talking of Nigeria afterall, where such poisonous and unfounded allegations have the capability of creating instability and unwarranted bloodshed as has been numerously demonstrated in the short history of the country. That is why it is important to set the record straight now before agents of destruction hijack the fragile peace of the country.

The article mentions cases of several officers who for one reason or another are believed to have been bypassed for promotion. This may or may not be true, but this section of the article does not talk about the Igbo officers who were also bypassed. In any promotional exercise there are bound to be those who will be disappointed as top positions are limited, and the Nigerian Army is no exception. One comes off reading this article thinking only Igbos get promoted in the Nigerian Army, while all others get bypassed. How incredulous! Suffice it to say that Ihejirika is not responsible for all promotions within the army. Most officers are promoted based on a recommendation from their supervisors and superiors, based on merit, as in any other professional organization. There is no way Ihejirika can be personally involved in the promotion of every officer within the Nigerian Army, and so some of these grudges IF legitimate need to be taken up with the supervisors of the concerned officers and not the COAS.

The biggest joke of the article is the insinuation of the entrenchment of nepotism and mediocrity against the COAS by citing the promotion of Brigadier Onoeveta, the former ADC to late President Umaru Yar’adua. First, Onoeveta is not Igbo, nor is he related to the COAS in any way, so how do they get off alleging nepotism? They ask the question “what explains the retention and preferential treatment being given to Brigadier Onoeveta, who is notorious for mediocrity.” (sic) and go on to provide the answer, “One possible explanation for this elevation of mediocrity is that it is a calculated attempt to achieve certain sinister or diabolical objective perhaps known only to General Ihejirika and the dark forces behind his actions”.

What a caricature!

There are also patent falsehoods and outright lies, for example the article claims that Brigadiers Oginni and Martins, were passed over for their junior Igbo counterpart, but this has been verified false as both were among those who were promoted in 2011. Brigadiers Nienge and Adekanye were also alleged to have been passed up for promotion but show up on the list of those promoted in 2012. Why this and why now? Could there be some elements in the Army or in the country at large who are looking for a repeat of 1966, where false and unfounded rumours in the Nigerian Army set the Northern NCOs and junior officers against their Igbo colleagues and officers in a bloody orgy of bloodletting that left over 300 Igbo army corpses in its wake and culminated in the Nigerian Civil War?
The false propaganda continues with the allegation that Ihejirika is somehow trying to repeat a non-existent 1966 agenda “according to which all non-Igbo senior officers were eliminated and replaced, as shown below, by Igbo officers appointed by General Ironsi, on 17th January 1966?”

The following names were then given as Ironsi’s Igbo appointments:

Serial Name Command Ethnic group

1 Lt Col George Kurubo Chief of Staff Nigeria Airforce Ibo, East
2 Lt Col Njoku Commanding Officer 2nd Brigade Ibo
3 Major H. Igboba Commanding Officer 2nd Battalion Ibo, East
4 Major. G. Okonweze Commanding Officer, Abeokuta Garrison Ibo, Mid West
5 Major Nzefili Commanding Officer 4 Battalion Ibo, Mid West

8 Lt Col Bassey Commanding Officer 1 Brigade East Non Ibo
9 Major Okoro Commanding Officer,3 Battalion Igbo, East
10 Major F Akagha Commanding Officer Depot. Igbo, East

Aside from the obvious falsehood of Kurubo not being Igbo, it will be shown below how data has been selectively edited and manipulated to portray a false image and give a false message. Below is the true composition of Ironsi’s Military postings and Federal appointments:

A-Ironsi’s Military Postings:

Major General Johnson Aguiyi Ironsi----Head of State-------East
Lt. Col. Hassan U. Katsina----Military Gov. of Northern Region----North

Summary

Mid Westerners---------3
Westerners---------------5
Easterners----------------10

A couple of important facts need to be noted here:
1. Not all officers of Eastern origin are Igbo, for example Kurubo is Kalabari, Effiong is Efik, Ekpo is Efik etc.
2. The East had the most number of officers (~70%) in the officer corps during this time. (Luckham)
3. Entrance examination cut off points had been drastically lowered in an engineered bid to allow Northerners who couldn’t score high enough to make the passing grades to be enrolled en masse into the Army to catch up with other regions as a result of a push by the then Sardauna of Sokoto and Minister of Defence both from the North. (Luckham)
4. A lot of junior northern officers like Gowon, Haruna, M. Muhammed were rapidly promoted to positions way above their ranks by Ironsi to make up for some of the losses of the North in the January coup. (Efiong )
5. Ironsi went way out of his way to appease the North with promotions, appointments, and reassurances to no avail. He was murdered on July 29 1966 by mutinous Northern officers citing a laundry list of paranoid claims and allegations about a grand Igbo plot to take over the country that have been proven to be false by all credible historians.

It is now becoming clear that this is a campaign of calumny and evil propaganda of epic proportions aimed at destabilizing the peace of this nation. If this is not treason then what is? The evil elements behind this campaign have to be fished out and brought to book. Nigeria’s stability is too fragile for these types of expensive political games that have gone on for too long from certain elements who do not want progress for this country. When other nations have moved ahead with industrialization and technological development we are still bogged down by tribal/religious and ethnic conflicts in 2013. Are we cursed? Nigeria is now a laughing stock of smaller African nations who used to look up to us as Africa’s potential super power, and yet we are not able to pause for a second to get our heads out of the sand to self-examine and self-correct after 50 years of rudderless existence as an independent nation. How long can we continue this way? This is definitely not the path forward to a vibrant and prosperous nation. Some things have got to give. Nigerians need to rise up and claim their country from those bent on keeping us behind.

PoliticsJonathan Considers Backing Out On 2015, May Support Atiku Or Tambuwal by TechRev(op): 3:43pm On Jan 23, 2013
The preps towards the 2015 presidential election in Nigeria appear at the verge of uncovering its share of political charades as stakeholders and/or players within the electoral power scheme find themselves in bed with strange partners cloaked in the garb of blackmail and despair.

Information available to 247ureports.com indicates that the president of the federal republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebelemi Jonathan may have opened discussions with his political adversaries against the upcoming landmark presidential elections of 2015. Particularly, the President is reported to have sought the attention of the former vice president of Nigeria, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku and the current Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal – for a closed door discussion over the way forward come 2015.

Competent sources within the Abuja power corridors point to a recent meeting between the former president of Nigeria, General Olusegun Obasanjo and President Goodluck Jonathan - as having added an ‘over-the-top’ pressure against President Jonathan over his ambition to contest for the president seat in 2015. Available information indicates that the former president had implored the President to stand by his earlier promise to Nigerians – and stand down – and to avoid the continued security breakdown in the nation. The former president was reported to have made it clear to President Jonathan that his support will go elsewhere if he decides to mount the campaign trail for 2015. Former President Obasanjo warned the President of the possible and/or probable threat posed by the merger deal currently under works between the Congress for Progressive Change [CPC], All Nigeria Peoples Party [ANPP] and Action Congress of Nigeria [ACN] – as the major threat facing the PDP against the presidential polls of 2015. The former President demanded for a new path to be charted if the PDP is to continue its hold over the presidency in 2015.

Our source indicated that the former President impressed on the President that the country was presently not administered satisfactorily, that corrupt practices within the top ranking members of the cabinet has gone uncontrolled.

The private talk with the former President and a one-time political godfather to Mr. President is reported to have come amidst a brewing pressure coming from the northern political block and the governor’s forum – who had expressed their discomfort with the autocratic handling of the National party, the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP].

Of which, President Jonathan’s body language showed the governor’s expression of discomfort fell on deaf ears. The governor’s forum had been lobbying against the continued stay of Bamanga Tukur as the National Chairman of the PDP. To this respect, the PDP governors opted to starve the party of funds and other pertinent resources – in addition to other subtle activities that have clearly shown their disapproval of Bamanga Tukur – such as boycotting en-mass nearly all events organized by the National Chairman.

Trouble facing President’s Jonathan’s 2015 aspiration stretch beyond his issues with the PDP Governor’s or the northern political block – Alhaji Abubakar Atiku’s interest to join the Presidential race under the banner of the PDP poses a potent quagmire for the President. It threatens a possible internal discord within the PDP if Atiku fails to secure the presidential ticket. It is recalled the promises made by Atiku following his unsuccessful attempt to secure the presidential ticket under the PDP in 2011. Similar actions are feared this time around should Atiku fail again.

Against his aides’ advice, Mr. President sought audience with both men. President Jonathan intention was to impress on both men of his willingness to discuss 2015 presidential poll and the possible chance of his backing out of the race – and to possibly support either one of them [Tambuwal or Atiku]. Information available to 247ureports.com confirms that Mr. President did discuss with the former vice president, Atiku in the first week of October 2012 – where Mr. President hinted his willingness to forego the 2015 aspiration in return for Atiku’s support.

The details of what transpired between the President and the former vice president is not completely known but competent sources near the former vice president revealed that the President did open the talks of foregoing his 2015 aspiration. It was also gathered that Atiku took Jonathan’s offer with a pinch of salt. According to the source, Atiku does not trust President Jonathan – and that many things can happen between now and the electioneering period. The source reveals further that Atiku, as a sign of good faith on the part of Mr. President, asked Jonathan to lobby for either Ken Nnamani or Alex Ekwueme to become the new BOT Chairman of the PDP. It is uncertain if Mr. President agreed.

Another competent source close to Atiku confirms that discussions between Atiku and Jonathan had taken place – where the President had requested for Atiku support in return for the PDP presidential ticket. But the source also noted that Atiku remain apprehensive. Nonetheless, the source revealed that the Atiku camp took the decision to stop major criticism of the Jonathan administration – until further notice.

Meanwhile, the caliphate in Sokoto State – who has become aware of the subtle moves by the President to placate the northern political block – has moved to impress on Mr. President of their preferred choice – Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, the Speaker of the house of representative. Hon. Tambuwal is from Sokoto and is the favorite of the Sultan of Sokoto.

PoliticsBakare's Interview With Punch. Did He Just Call OBJ A Demon?? by TechRev(op): 3:20pm On Jan 19, 2013
Bakare: I hate religion with passion

by Akan Ido

Fiery pastor of the Latter Rain Assumbly, Tunde Bakare is a man who does not hesitate to speak his mind on issue as it concerns Nigeria. In this Punch Newspaper interview, the former running mate of Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari in the last presidential election and the Convener of the Save Nigeria Group (SNG), talks about the state of the nation, former president Olusegun Obasanjo, president Goodluck Jonathan and the proposed merger of opposition parties in readiness for the 2015 elections.

Read the interview below:

One year after the fuel subsidy protests, when you look back, would you say the protests achieved their goals?

When there are clear goals and objectives for any movement or protest, then you have the opportunity of judging whether those goals are attained or accomplished. We didn’t just rush out; if you recall, the increase in petrol pump price took place on January 1, 2012. Like a sadist, the President gave us a cause to be sorrowful on the first day of the year; even those who didn’t even have vehicles of their own and had to pay through their noses to move from one place to the other. The Save Nigeria Group sat down to analyse the situation and joined the protest in Ojota with its allies. There were pockets of protests here and there; there was a general strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress; then we sat down and set the objectives clearly: that the increase in pump price was not our problem but corruption. We said the time had come for us to educate and enlighten our citizens and unblock their minds as to the root cause of the continuous increase in petrol pump price all the time and the affliction and oppression inflicted on the people of this country. That’s why we came out with the watchword, “Kill Corruption and not Nigerians.” And I leave it to you as journalists to see whether or not we accomplished our objectives because immediately we began to hammer that, probe after probe, live on television came out. There is no Nigerian anywhere in this country and in the Diaspora that does not know that filthiness is in our garments. Corruption is the bane and we have unmasked the masquerade.

It was alleged that you led the protest because your party lost the election to the President’s party.

You cannot tell clueless people not to reason wrongly. Did all the people who participated in that protest run for an election? All the musicians that came there, all the artistes that came there without taking a penny from us, did they run for any election? And even if you are going to judge me that it was because you rigged an election that you said we lost, that led to the protest, did I ask you to increase the pump price? And if you are to judge me, judge me by my overall character; did I stand for you when you were being oppressed, Mr. President? Was I a politician when we led and took to the streets in Abuja and Lagos where we stood against every form of oppression and injustice because injustice to one is injustice to all? Were we sponsored by politicians when we took to the streets in January, 2010 after the prolonged illness of (Umaru) Yar’Adua? You can’t help people who don’t engage their brain to think; they are entitled to their opinion. But let me tell you the truth, there was no political motivation of any kind to that protest. We rose to protest an injustice being meted out to a people deserving not only respect, but those whose welfare should be the primary concern of a good government. Everybody is aware now that somebody is watching somebody. With all the exposure of corruption in high places, everyone is careful and they are so scared. In spite of threatening to increase the price of PMS, they couldn’t, although they are doing it illegally by allowing people to sell at any price they like. But it is still illegal and that is why I dared them three days ago to come out and increase the petrol price without cushioning the effect and providing alternative for the people. They will know that it is for the dog to wag the tail, not the tail to wag the dog; people will tell them enough is enough.

Don’t you think that 2015 is still far away for campaigning to have started?

They have signalled the campaign by going to kneel down before Pastor Adeboye (General Overseer, Redeemed Christian Church of God). See, I am not saying that pastors should not pray for presidents, that man was representing an office; a whole nation crumbling before men of God because of political advantage they think they can get. And if the prayer will bail him out, let us wait and see. The truth is who is preparing for 2015, which faction of the PDP? Is it the (Olusegun) Obasanjo faction? Or IBB faction? Or Jonathan faction? The governors’ faction? Because PDP is a house divided against itself; it’s a chicken that has begun to eat its own intestines. By going to kneel down in the open before the pastor, the man (Jonathan) did not even recognise the dignity of his office. If it were a private thing, it is okay for you to crawl or kneel but it is a whole nation. That office has been diminished by a man who does not know the worth of it and does not deserve to stay there for one more day.

What then should be the role of religious leaders like you in the affairs of the nation?

I am not a religious leader. I don’t believe in religion; religion is deadly. Jesus Christ did not start a religion here. He began a relationship with God. Let’s separate the two. Religious leaders don’t think any more, they lose their brain. Paul said, I speak the words of truth and reason. What is the impact of the church in this country other than to pray for men who have stolen the treasury and wealth of the nation and coming back to give us different kinds of gifts; giving us jets and all kinds of things that will silence us so that we cannot speak the truth to power? I know the church that Jesus Christ is building will continue to wax stronger but this synagogue of Satan will fold up soon. I hate religion with passion.

How will you assess the Jonathan administration so far?

Under Jonathan’s leadership, Nigeria as a whole has become a titanic ship on sail to hit the iceberg and sink. Right-thinking people must rise to rescue the helm of that ship from his (Jonathan’s) hand before he wrecks the entire nation. We have promoted men who have no mental capacity to do what we ask them to do. At a meeting we had on Monday to mark the anniversary of the protest, the Chairman of Punch Editorial Board brought this to my consciousness by describing leadership of Nigeria as inept. He said we have put men who have been promoted beyond their mental capacity in position. That is our problem.

Many people believe that the PDP has become an albatross to Nigerians and that is why there is a clamour for an alliance among the opposition parties in order to wrest power from the ruling party. What do you think has been hampering such alliance?

You have put me on the spot and I will only be truthful. In order to steer the ship of Nigeria aright, there must be a handshake across the Niger; between the North and the South. But it must be of like minds; the best of the North and the best of the South. How that will take place is a function of many factors. An alliance is not the way forward. In a presidential system of government, there is no opposition; it’s winner takes all. If the party in power has a majority in the National Assembly, they don’t need anybody. That is the weakness of the presidential system of government. Each time they talk of opposition, I think we are so much inundated by our past experience with the parliamentary system where the prime minister can be removed from the parliament and nothing will happen because the system allows it. But the presidential system does not brook any opposition, except only when they don’t have the majority. I think the way forward is a merger of all the so-called opposition parties especially the Action Congress of Nigeria, All Nigeria Peoples Party and the Congress for Progressive Change. But I realised recently when the ACN said PDP is a party of rogues and thieves and criminals, the PDP replied that there are more criminals in the ACN than the PDP and there was no response thereafter. I read all that in the newspapers. If there is going to be a merger, between who and who-between rogues and criminals? Can light and darkness co-exist? Let’s pray that men and women of goodwill will rise and do the needful. However, having said all that, I am of the firm belief and conviction that there will be no election in 2015. I am of the firm belief that this house of cards will collapse before 2015. As it is now, what we have does not have what it takes to drag Nigeria along; and anything can happen anytime from now. And I pray that it would be what would be for the benefit of the entire nation. Each time we have spoken that way, some have thought we are calling for the military to take over. What did the military do for the nation before? Don’t let me be misunderstood, except we have a kind of Jehu revolution, where the worshippers of bell and the worshippers of the altar of greed are all dealt with as it happened in Ghana. Then, there may be some hope there. Our people may revolt, which can happen so unexpectedly. Remember what happened when the Shah of Iran ran away from that country and the Arab Spring? It would be worse here because they have pushed people beyond limit. Look at the level of insecurity, daylight robbery; you are coming out of the church and they are pointing a gun at you. North is not safe, there is Boko Haram; South-East is not safe, there is kidnapping; South is not safe, there is pipeline vandalism. And fire is now ravaging everywhere. People have been pushed beyond limit and there may be a people’s revolt. Beyond this, there is God almighty, who may say the cries of the people have come up to Him, enough is enough.

When you as a man of God says there will be no election in 2015, is that as a result of a vision or what?

Leave that to me but by the time this nation is 100 years old in 2014, God will answer the prayer of the people of God and there will be a new beginning. The madness that is going on everywhere now is that God is hardening the heart of Pharaoh.

The President warned a few days ago against statements that could destabilise the country such as this.

Is the nation not destabilised already? What have we said that will destabilise the country? Let’s call a spade a spade and not an agricultural implement.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo also warned against a revolution recently going by the way things are going…

He said the truth but he would be the first victim that it would consume because he caused the problem; by forcing the weak and the sick on the nation. A few days ago, Adamu Ciroma came out to say that Obasanjo knew that the late Umaru Yar’Adua was sick. Just wait, the result is about to happen. He did that as a way of revenging on Nigeria for the collapse of his third term agenda but Obasanjo will be the first victim of the revolution. I presented a lecture on Sunday that Obasanjo had the greatest opportunity to put Nigeria in proper shape and to leave a legacy for generations unborn. But he chose not to do that. I had the privilege of launching a book in honour of a venerable man, Chief Akin Olugbade, an Owu, to mark his centenary birthday if he were alive. I said Owu as a kingdom had produced angels in human flesh like the late Akin Olugbade, whose generosity and philanthropy benefited a person like me. I went there to say that this is a return on investment and I gave the little that I had. If Obasanjo dares, let both of us walk through Itoku Market in Abeokuta even as an Owu man without any aide, or the streets of Sokoto among the Almajiris. That is why I told them that Owu kingdom has produced angels and demons such as Obasanjo, who incidentally is called Ebora Owu. Ebora means demon and demons are to be exorcised. Our job is to cast out demons of Owu and that we would do by God’s grace.

How do you see the rift between Obasanjo and Jonathan; probably Obasanjo has realised his mistakes and now thinks it is better to fight on the side of the people?

Obasanjo does not realise anything. I think Jonathan has surpassed him in misgovernance and he is frightened. It is only a thief that knows the footprint of another thief on a rock. How did he come by his big house? How much was Obasanjo worth when he left the prison, how much is he worth now? How did he come about his big investments? How much was he paid as President of Nigeria. Let him explain. What we have is a government of crooks by crooks.

In the last election, you tried politics. What should we expect now?

I didn’t try politics. I was invited to assist a person whom I thought was a honest man and would be surrounded by good people and then we would fight corruption. That was the only reason. I was a running mate; I wasn’t a member of any party. I was invited but I am back in my element to keep doing what I am doing. That ended there; if the opportunity comes to serve my country in any capacity, I will but I am not forming any party.

What did you see in Maj.-Gen.Mohammadu Buhari before you joined him?

His integrity and his anti-corruption stance stood him out. He is the only head of state alive who made the public statement that in his entire public service career, as a governor, as a commissioner (now minister), as a commandant of different army formations and as a head of state, he never touched one penny in the public treasury; that he can account for everything God has given him. His mother’s house was built through a loan both in Daura and in Kaduna. The one in Lagos, he had to sell to fund the one he took a loan to build in Abuja because he didn’t know how to steal. He is very forthright and honest; that’s all I saw and if we can surround such a man with people who have the capability and the capacity to run the state and the treasury is safe and there is no more stealing and Nigeria is no longer haemorrhaging, we can salvage it. That was why we assembled a change team that we thought would be allowed but they rigged the election.

Some people believe that if somebody like you becomes the President of Nigeria, there will be more evidence of despotic actions in governance. How would you react to this?

The only way to judge that is to come to a church I have headed for more than 20 years and see whether there is any evidence of despotism. Then you come to my house and see my wife and children to see if there is an evidence of despotic actions. I am not a despot and in fact, how can you be a despot in a democratic setting? Don’t forget I am a trained lawyer; I would not violate the rule of law. No true leader should be a despot.

Apart from corruption, security is another challenge facing the country and the Presidency has had to change the head of police several times because of this. So far, how would you assess the present IG, Muhammed Abubakar?

There is nobody you put there who can accomplish anything about insecurity because the fish starts smelling from the head. If you say corruption is not the problem, what leads to insecurity if not corruption? The IG can give orders but the men at the toll gates and roadblocks are there to perpetuate corruption. Corruption and violence are Siamese twins and in Genesis, God said He was grieved in His heart that He created man, that the earth was corrupt and there was violence everywhere. You can’t find corruption and not see violence. I do not approve of what Boko Haram is doing but if you grant amnesty to those who were vandalising the pipelines because of fighting for what they claimed was legitimately theirs, and Boko Haram are saying their governors are not taking care of them, who are you to judge them? Why have they not been able to fix the problem?

But it has always been argued that Boko Haram is faceless and so it would be difficult to engage its elements…

Boko Haram faceless and yet Obasanjo met with them? I don’t know them but the President of Nigeria said Boko Haram members were in his cabinet. Who are those he alleged were in his cabinet, are they ghosts? What led to the removal of the late Gen. (Andrew) Azazi as National Security Adviser? They are totally insincere. There is PDP Boko Haram. Let them not fool you. They arrested some people in Jos and elsewhere, why have they not been able to prosecute anyone with all the arrests? Do you think it is the Boko Haram that started in the Borno area that are the ones planting sophisticated bombs everywhere now? Please let’s think; there is security Boko Haram, there is political Boko Haram and there is criminal Boko Haram.

Recently the government came out to say electricity has improved a bit but the way you are talking, it’s like it has not done anything.

If a man told me a lie yesterday and I believed him but it turned out to be false; and he told me a lie a day before, how long am I to continue to believe him? Nigerians have been told of improved electricity in recent months but how many parts of the country have you travelled to? They are putting electricity where you make noise so that you don’t bother them. I still burn diesel in my house everyday up till now and my budget for diesel both in the church and in my house has increased with all the noise they are making. And by the way, how much have they invested in electricity generation and how much electricity have they produced?

But the government has been trying to put electricity generation into private hands for improvement.

I have had the opportunity of living in both Britain and America for six years each and I never met the electricity officials. All I had to do was to pay my bills; that was all. All the privatisation noise they are making is fraught with deep-seated corruption. They sell everything to themselves. They have been mentioning privatisation when I was still in my mother’s womb. Once upon a time, there was ECN and there was stable electricity. They are insincere and they sell everything to themselves.

How do you see the politicking involved in the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway project, where a lot of lives have been lost? Soon after the contract was withdrawn from Dr.Wale Babalakin, he was arrested for alleged money laundering.

Evil is self-destruct. That’s all I see there. If Babalakin is being tried for something, the question is, is it true? If it is false, then the trial will fall on its face. I have told you that it is only the thief that knows how to trace the footsteps of another on a rock. They know what they are doing. If you remain in our camp and you don’t attack us, you remain our friend. Babalakin used to be the solicitor for Obasanjo, have they fallen out? Was there anything between Babalakin and the minister and is there a fall out? But the truth is, can they come and revoke a contract that I have not seen or can they come and charge me for money laundering? My accounts are in the open and if you access them, you will see that it has been regular. And every business I have done, I have gone to the banks for legitimate loans and I have paid back those loans. If you have done no evil, you need not fear no evil. So, if Babalakin has done no evil, no evil will befall him. But if he has done it, then let him find a way of reaching out to them before they wreck him completely because they are vicious. What is going on on that road is the failure of the entire nation. Leadership has failed Nigerians. That is the main road that connects the South and the North and any serious government should have done something about it. I am aware that the South-West governors showed an interest and met with the President but I don’t know why they were not allowed to do it. There is more to it than we ordinary citizens know.

As kinsmen, people would expect a kind of rapport between you and Obasanjo but you are one of his critics. Is there something personal?

Apart from answering questions about him in interviews, I don’t think or talk about him at all because he does not even occur in my thinking. If Obasanjo is my kinsman, does it mean that if he does evil, I should keep quiet? I have no personal hatred for him. Let me tell you something, I don’t know whether he knows but I am saying the truth and it can be verified. When he was in prison, one of the pastors that went to minister to him, I sent him. He was a member of our network. When he was in prison, two of his children were brought here because their school fees could not be paid by one of his wives, I paid the fees. I have nothing against him.

On a personal note, do you at times regret leaving the pulpit and venturing into politics?

Look at me, as the Lord lives and when the opportunity presents itself, because of my interest in an orderly society, I will do it again. I have no regret. When good men leave politics alone, evil men will continue to traumatise the nation. And by the way, I never left the pulpit, in all the months of electioneering, I was absent in church only one Sunday because it caught up with me in Borno and I couldn’t get back. Gen. Buhari knew that by Friday night, or latest Saturday morning, I must be back in Lagos to feed the flock.

Supposing the President chooses to come and fellowship at your church, what would you do?

Let him try it. Jonathan dares not and if he does, he will sit at the back.

What is the Nigeria of your dream?

The Nigeria that works in my lifetime, that is the Nigeria of my dream. My ears have heard about this great nation, my eyes will see it in my own lifetime. I am not an ambitious person and that is why I can come back here.

SportsRe: Why Eagles Will Win AFCON – Practical Analyses By Orji Uzor Kalu by TechRev: 1:42pm On Jan 18, 2013
Maxymilliano: Gold in the air, that is what former Abia State Governor, Dr.Orji Uzor Kalu sees as Super Eagles mark their Golden Jubilee at the Africa Cup Nations which is billed to open in South Africa.

The Eagles debuted in 1963 conceding a basket full of 10 goals. However, Kalu harped on a 10-year sequence that had showered luck on Nigerian soccer ever since.

He said, ”Every 10 years since 1963, something good happened. In 1973, we won All Africa Games gold.

In 1983, Nigeria won the Tessema Cup for the first time which took the Flying Eagles to the country’s first FIFA Champioship, Mexico ’83 and Stephen Keshi’s New Nigeria Bank Benin won the elusive WAFU Cup.

In 2003, Golden Eaglet ruled the world in Japan, while Enyimba made history lifting the CAF Champions league in 2003. I am sure 2013, is for the Eagles again.”

The former governor was not done. ”Imagine this, ”he explained.” When the Eagles won their first Nations Cup in 1980, their captain was a central defender Christian Chukwu.

When Keshi lifted the trophy in 1994, he was in the central defence even if he did not play in the grand finale. Now, you know Skipper Joseph Yobo’s position. Good enough, the trio would be in South Africa.”

Crystal ball, may be.

Kalu continued with his predictions and similarities, ”their is the letter ‘A’ Connection. Men who supervised sports at the Federal level in those years of Cup glory had ‘A’ as the beginning of their surname.

Paulinus Amadike in 1980, Sylvanus Akinwumi in 1994 and today, Bolaji Abdullahi. And i hope you know that Keshi and his Assistant Sylvanus Okpala also won the Nations Cup as players, ”Kalu added.

Missing the Nations Cup is also a blessing in disguise.” After 1963, the Eagles did not qualify until Ethiopia ’76. They were in the final Classification that earned them a bronze, because for the first and only time, there was no grand-finale.

After missing Egypt ’86, Manfred Hoener took them to Maroc’88, and got to the last two. In 1996 and again 1998, they were absent.

When the team returned in 2000, a golden silver followed us. Ask Victor Ikpeba and the Tunisian referee. In South Africa, after missing the last edition, all i see is the Cup,” he added.

If you understood what the aim of the Islamist are, you would understand that abstaining from the conflict doesn't guarantee your security. Nigeria made the right decision in sending military support in terms of personnel and equipment. If you do not talk/act when they come for your neighbors, one day they will come for you and you will have no neighbors to act for you.

Yes there may be backlash from that decision but as a president, i will rather keep the Islamists busy in a far away country than have them keep me busy at my own door step. Only that Mali is not that far from Nigeria but still best to take the fight to them.

PoliticsRe: Bakare Attacks Lagos Over N72m Land Charge by TechRev: 4:24pm On Jan 17, 2013
jidsoon: Founder, Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare has attacked Nigeria’s Lagos State Government for collecting N72 million from him for change of ownership of a parcel of land he bought from the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN.

Bakare, who spoke in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, said he bought the parcel of land from PHCN to build a residential estate to make more people own their houses, saying he was shocked when the state government asked him to pay N72 million.

He said after paying the money, the government was yet to release documents of the transaction to him.

The preacher stated that such money was unnecessary as he had already paid for the land and that this was one of the evils brought about by the Land Use Act, LUA, which he said should be repealed.

“The Land Use Act is the enemy of progress in our country. Due to greed for land, they imposed it in our constitution and they are smiling to the bank every day. Citizens are not having access to land or they will pay through their nose.

“Even the Certificate of Ownership, whatever Lagos State Government calls it, it happened to me as a person. I bought a land from PHCN to develop real estate because Lagos State cried out that more houses and needed for people.

“After getting the C of O from PHCN, Lagos State says I have to obtain their documents and charged me N72 million extra on that parcel of land. Then you now enact a useless law asking that in a democracy, a tenant must pay one year rent maximum,” he said.

According to Bakare, “so, if I go to the bank to borrow for 23 percent and I had to pay back the money either through sale or rent, how do I realise it? You can see that nothing here seems to have value. We make laws without considering the needs of the people.”

Bakare said laws were being formulated in the country without having the interest of the masses in mind.

“Not all government laws are bad, Nigerians must rise to take their destiny in their own hand, reject an oppressive government, reject the 1999 constitution, if not this constitution will kill the nation,” he added.

Bakare also said it’s unfortunate that the nation has inept leadership, adding that “we have people who are promoted beyond their mental capacity operating in corridors of power. So, the worst of us are presiding over the best of us. It is shame on our nation.”
