As thousands of Muslin faithful braced up for the Sallah celebration expected to begin this weekend, about 50, 000 Police officers made up of the rank and file and a sizeable number of SPOs yesterday got a shocker when they were posted en-masse as a result of the insecurity crises facing the nation.

As a result of the postings which saw many officers including Northerners, Southerners and Easterners swapping their areas of responsibility, some officers who spoke to Saturday Vanguard complained bitterly about the transfer saying ‘they were contemplating whether to embark on the transfer or to put in their letters of resignation as their families are kicking against it.

In particular, some Police officers presently serving in the Southern parts of the country including Northern officers from crises states like Borno, Yobe, Kaduna, Bauchi and Gombe, are said to be among those trying everything humanly possible including lobbying to ensure they did not go to the states to perform security duties.

Saturday Vanguard had reported last week that following the poor performance of some Police officers in the fight against terrorism and other security challenges facing the nation, the IG directed the Police Management team to carry out a re-organization of the force by ensuring that competent officers were deployed for security duties.

It was gathered that information regarding the mass postings started filtering to the state commands on Thursday and that as at Friday (yesterday) the names of between 5,000 to 6, 000 SPOs, Inspectors and other ranks were moved out from each state command and scattered to other commands.

Sources disclosed that officers from Edo and Delta states as well as those from Anambra state were posted to Kano, Plateau, Borno and Yobe while those transferred from the northern states were posted to states like Benue, Enugu and Abia states.

Consequently, and fearing for their lives as well as those of their families, some policemen who spoke to Saturday Vanguard on condition of anonymity have threatened to resign if the postings are not changed while others have resorted to spiritual help in order to be able to survive in those areas.

The number of senior officers affected in the transfer is said to be about 5,000 in total when compared to that of other ranks the source said adding that the action was taken in line with the IG’s determination to confront the security challenges in the country headlong, he has directed that nobody should be speared in the postings.

In giving the directive, the IG is said to have noted that the long stay of some policemen in a particular posting makes them connive and partake in activities that are threats to security of lives and property as they give assistance to criminals. Hence he warned that that no policeman should stay beyond two years in any command, as this helps to bread corruption.

The source added that more postings will be coming out in the next one or two weeks as the IGP as directed that the postings must be completed by the end of the second weeks of September.

You may also consider arming your self or house, if you are like most nigerians that wont want to buy a firearm cause its against the law, you could use other improvised arms that are close as deadly as firearms but not against the law. In all this trust in God too.

Enugu – Two persons were killed on Thursday in an early morning shooting by gunmen on the Isuochi/Adelabu streets of Uwani in Enugu.

An eyewitness, who preferred anonymity, said that the gunmen besieged the former Enugu Guest House on Isuochi St. in the early hours of Thursday and shot at a young man.

He said few minutes after the shooting, another gun shot was heard at Adelabu St.

The witness said that the guest house was converted to students’ hostel two years ago, adding that since then, residents of the area had not known peace.

“There is hardly any fortnight that residents of Isuochi St. will not witness one strange thing or the other from the students living in the house.

“Display of cult activities is the order of the day in the compound,’’ he said.

When contacted for comments, the Police Public Relations Officer, Enugu Police Command, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, confirmed the incident saying that one of the deceased was a policeman.

Amaraizu said the command had commenced investigation into the killings while the area had been placed under surveillance.

He called on residents of the area to go about their normal duties, assuring them of their security. (NAN)

IMHO, If your sister is an adult who gave you the right to decide who she takes as friend or even date?? If your friend is a bad person, how come he is your best friend and you even brought him into your parents house??
Whether you like it or not, your friendship with that your friend has come to its final days its the fact, irrespective of the action you take. If you talk to him and caution him, he will remove you from his friends list or best friend list cause he will say you feel he is not good enough for your sister and they will find another venue. If you keep quiet, the friendship will still crumble when they break up cause from your fears of him, shows you know him as use and dump just as you been doing.

Be prepared for the eventual loss of your friend but make sure you part ways peacefully.

Try to get a job or a business to burry yourself and thoughts in. Try and devote your spare time to serving and helping others, community service etc etc, keep praying while doing that and keep learning and changing yourself. I cannot guarantee you that it will bring your husband back to his senses but i can say you will start living a happy life even while still married to him.

Find a higher calling or dream devote all your might to fulfilling it, after fulfilling it find another. It will keep your mind away from the hurt and keep changing you to a better person. Try it.

I am into business too sir and now takes me longer to have my good cleared at Nigerian ports and cost of clearing has gone up by minimum 25% since he took office.

To be honest with you i dont know about his security strategy, (i dont think its public knowledge too) but i guess he is trying to build on intelligence as we didnt have much of it before him.

Where it affects me:
I see no police on the road when travelling or transporting stuff, My vote counted more than once since he took office. Power has improved where i am, i no longer run generator as i used to.
Its quicker for my equipment parts to arrive after ordering. I can now access some info about government agencies as affects my business. A friend of mine that was ran out of business, has restarted the business and he took more youths off the streets by employing them, thanks to the first release of the Youwin grant.

Kobojunkie: As they have already tried to tell you, Military rule is not Democratic rule. If you really want to know the Legal way to change a sitting democratic Government please check out the Nigerian Constitution, it gives you clear details of how that can be done.

If you do not know what military government is about, then may I suggest you do some looking up. You do not elect military government in Nigeria so I don't see why you would think the same ought to apply.

Yes Bakare is a lawyer. No he has not been contesting for elective posts and calling for overthrow of Government since Abacha's time or 15yrs as you said. As ruthless as Abacha was with his death squad, he never called for overthrow of Government, and here we have a democratically elected President that lets everyone say what ever he is calling for change in Government. He is crying thinking Nigeria will soon be bulkanised and so loose his long dream of sucking deep into ND oil.
