The boldness of the herdsmen is unpresidented. I have not heard Tinubu speak out against their atrocities and he will expect people to queue behind him in the next election.

A suspected Fulani herdsman has been arrested with an AK 47 assault rifle in Enugu.

The incident happened at Ugbawka village in Nkanu East Local Government Area of the state, on Thursday.
Our correspondent learnt that the herdsman was initially apprehended by some youths of the village, who were suspicious of his presence in the agrarian community.

It was gathered that upon interrogation by the youths, said to be members of a vigilante outfit, the unnamed herdsman could not explain his mission and the reason he was bearing the deadly weapon in the community.

Sources in the village revealed that the gun was loaded with live cartridges.

The armed cattle rearer was subsequently handed over to the police.

Findings by Southern City News indicate that the herdsman was still in custody on Friday.

It was further gathered that the development led to tension in the community, as anxious youths and other members of the village mobilised themselves in anticipation of retaliatory attacks by Fulani herdsmen, who operate in large numbers in the area.

However, a team from the police anti-terrorism unit, as well as some men of the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu, had to be deployed to the village in order to avert any breakdown of law and order on Friday.

Police Public Relations Officer, Enugu State Police Command, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the development, said the situation in Ugbawka village was under control.



“As I speak with you, I am on my way back to Enugu; I am in the entourage of the Commissioner of Police, we went to Ugbawka to assess the situation and there is no cause for alarm. There is calm,” the police spokesman said when contacted on Friday.

Natives of Ugbawka village, who are mostly rice farmers, have been having series of confrontations with herdsmen operating within their community.

The villagers have accused the cattle rearers of destroying their rice farms.

Like Ugbawka, other agrarian communities in Enugu State have been experiencing anxious moments as a result of the activities of Fulani herdsmen.

In 2016, several persons were killed when suspected Fulani herdsmen invaded Ukpabi Nimbo, a community in the Uzo-Uwani area of Enugu.

The Ukpabi Nimbo massacre, as the attack came to be known, led to the establishment of vigilante outfits in all the villages in the state, a development, which has reduced the frequency and scale of herdsmen attacks in Enugu State.

According to Saidu, President Buhari’s decision to release looters’ list was not meant to witch hunt the opposition, neither was it meant to facilitate
his 2019 second term presidential ambition, but to attract economic development in Nigeria.

He assured that the FG was not leaving any stone outruned in its determination to include APC supporters in the looters lists

especially those found guilty of looting nation treasury in the fight against corruption crusade of Buhari.

Primate Elijah Ayodele of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, with headquarters in Lagos State, has warned the National Leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, not to support President Muhammadu Buhari in next year’s presidential election.

Ayodele, speaking at the dedication of the Emi Ni Aseyori Kan Pro Cathedral a.k.a Sope Parish in Lagos last weekend, claimed that Tinubu would be used and dumped by Buhari.

The cleric also called on the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, to contest for the presidency in 2019 or face the wrath of God.

“The present ‘romance’ going on between Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Buhari is deception; they’re deceiving nd dump him. Until we appreciate God and not man, the country will continue to experience underdevelopment,” he said.

On the 2019 presidential election, the cleric stated that God had ordained Saraki to help Nigeria.

“I want to tell Saraki now to make up his mind, because God has ordained him to help this country. He should come out to contest for president. It’s not by noise. At the moment, he is the one who can move Nigeria forward.

“So, I want him to take the bold step and make up his mind or else, God would deal with him. I don’t make predictions; I give prophecies. However, I am not God. God can choose to delay when fulfi God can choose to delay when fulfilling certain prophecies.

I said PDP used government funds to run their 2015 presidential elections which is bad but we also need to know how APC funded theirs to be sure they are not guilty of the same offence. If people are saying we should focus on only how PDP funded theirs then we are not being fair. So before APC have the moral right to accuse the PDP of looting to fund their campaign, let them publish how they funded theirs.

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State and national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), on Thursday hit at Nigeria’s major opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying the party would never return to power.

Tinubu, who made the remarks while speaking at the 10th Bola Tinubu Colloquium, an event held to mark his 66th birthday, also urged Nigerians not to accept the apology offered by the PDP earlier this week.

He said the APC would continue to talk about how the party mismanaged the country’s wealth in the last 16 years in order to enlighten Nigerians.

Speaking on the performance of the ruling party so far, Tinubu, who claimed that the party never said fundamental and sustainable reforms would be easy, added that the party, under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, had judiciously maximised the scarce resources of the country by investing in the electorate who voted the party into power as evidenced in the social investment programmes of the Federal Government.

“When we came in, we came in with a whole lot of hope as APC leaders, several discussions with diplomatic corps, with foreign dignitaries, putting heads together, thinking and believing in ourselves that we can change Nigeria for good.

“We were strongly determined that we will do it. We gave our people the confidence and the hope. We believe in ourselves. We believe in Nigeria and we are still going to do it.

“Life is not interesting without challenges. We didn’t come as a political party showing our logo as honey and sugar.

“Our logo is broom, bunched together, united Nigeria focuses against terrorism, corruption, and promote economic revival of the country, investing in people.

“I can see what the government is doing with so little but they are clever. The fact that they are doing it, the fact that there are beneficiaries, the fact that it is demonstrated in practical terms, is what we need to get our country from the throat of corrupt officers.

“They said don’t talk about it. What should we talk about? That we came in to play chess.
