Crime / Hunter Mistook His Younger Brother For Monkey In The Farm by tee83: 9:20pm On Sep 17, 2017
Hunter kills younger brother in the farm, claims he saw a monkey on tree

A 65-year-old hunter, Clement Etila Ekele, has been arrested for killing his 45-year-old younger brother, Monday Ekele, in Kogi State. According to SunNews, the tragic incident happened on July 16, 2017, at Ikaka village in Ibaji LGA of Kogi State.

On the ill-fated day, Monday, the deceased, went to the farm about 5.00am. Three hours later, about 8.00am, Clement also went to the farm with his double barrel gun. At the farm, he saw a monkey on a tree and shot it. The monkey fell down.

When he ran to the foot of the tree to pick up the monkey, Clement said that what he saw was the dead body of his brother. According to Clement: “I hunt for monkeys. I have never had any misunderstanding with my younger brother.

On that day, he went to the farm before me. Later I also went to the farm with my gun. There, I saw a monkey on the tree. I shot it, but when I wanted to carry the dead monkey, it changed into my younger brother. .

I didn’t know what came over me; I couldn’t understand myself. I ran back to the village and I started drinking beer and rejoicing. Later, I told my friend Anthony that I shot my younger brother dead.

The gods I worship failed me because I refused to perform certain sacrificial rites. They became angry with me; I have been a hunter for years, I never shot anybody. Why must I kill my own brother? We live together, our houses are opposite each other."

A moment of silence as Amerians celebrate 15 years of 911,.

On September 11, 2001, 19 militants associated with the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda hijacked four airplanes and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. Two of the planes were flown into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, a third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C., and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. Almost 3,000 people were killed during the 9/11 terrorist attacks, which triggered major U.S. initiatives to combat terrorism and defined the presidency of George W. Bush.

Crime / Customs Uncovers Another 1,100 Pump Action Rifles In Lagos . by tee83: 2:11pm On Sep 11, 2017
Again, operatives of the Nigerian Custom Service, Tin-Can Island Command have impounded 1,100 pump action rifles. This bring to a total of about 2110 pump action rifles so far impounded in Lagos alone in the last seven months.

The Comptroller General of the Nigerian Custom Service, Col. Hameed Ali (Rtd) who confirmed the seizure said that the weapons were fearfully concealed in a 1×20 ft container.

He said that the weapons were discovered by custom officers who were carrying out 100% examination of the container. The syndicate that specialises in smuggling weapons into the country was also nabbed.

The weapons were brought from Turkey and concealed inside a container which Bill of Laden indicated it was conveying wash hand basins.

Controller General of Customs, Col. Ahmeed Alli, disclosed that, already, a Customs officer suspected to have cut the seal of the container without following due process, as well as a clerk at the command had been arrested in connection with the discovery.

Education / ASUU Strike:nigerian Govt, Lecturers Set Up 7-member Committee To Implement 2009 by tee83: 12:11pm On Sep 08, 2017
The Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, have resolved to set up a seven-member committee to work out modalities for the actualisation of its 2009 agreement.

Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment, said this after an intensive conciliatory meeting with the leadership of ASUU, Minister of Education, among others on Friday in Abuja.

The meeting was an effort at revolving the lingering strike embarked by the union.

Limelite reported how the lecturers expressed satisfaction with the government’s offers at the meeting, but said they would have to communicate same with their colleagues before taking a decision.

It will be recalled that members of ASUU had embarked on an indefinite strike on August 13, following government’s failure to implement the agreement reached with the union in November 2016.

ASUU, on August 17, had met with the officials of the Ministry of Education and Labour and Employment where it was agreed that the union should consult and report back to the government within a week.

ASUU’s demands include the disputed registration of the Nigerian Universities Pension Management Company, fractionalisation of salaries in federal universities, gross under-funding and non-funding of state universities.

Others are arrears and implementation of earned academic allowances, the release of fund for the revitalisation of public universities as spelt out in the 2013 Memorandum of Understanding, among others.

Mr. Ngige said that the Ministry of Education would be represented by three people, ASUU by three members, while the government would be represented by one person who would serve as the Chairman of the Committee.

The minister, however, stressed the importance of education to the development of every nation in the world.

He assured ASUU that government would implement all the seven demands of the union as contained in the 2009 agreement.

Foreign Affairs / 12 Crazy Laws That Only Exist In North Korea by tee83: 7:48pm On Aug 18, 2017
North Korea is a country shrouded in mystery. Isolated from much of the world, there is a lot about North Korea that Westerners simply do not know. One of the more unusual and unknown elements of North Korea are the strange laws that govern its society. These unusual laws range from:

1.The first of these strange laws concerns your hair. There are 28 government approved hair styles in North Korea. That’s it. 10 for men, 18 for women. While I certainly think some haircuts should be discouraged (man-buns!), no haircut should be illegal.

2.Government decides who lives in the capital: Want to live in the capital? You Need Permission, bud. That’s right, if you want to live in North Korea’s capital, Pyongyang, then you need to get state permission.

3.Everyone Must Vote: Only 55% of eligible U.S citizens voted during the 2016 election. In North Korea it is illegal not to vote, as the government mandates that all of its citizens must vote. Unfortunately, the government also mandates that all 100% of North Korean citizens vote for the same person.

4 Your Television Watching is Controlled: If there is one thing authoritarian states want to control, it’s information and communication. And because of that, North Korea controls the airwaves. There are only 3 TV channels to choose from and the programming is all strictly controlled by the government.

5-It is Illegal to Own a Bible: Another hallmark of an authoritarian regime is controlling religion. If you are caught with a Bible in North Korea, you could be imprisoned or executed. I guess the government believes that if the people believe in a power higher than the government, then they could revolt.

6-Your Family is Punished For Your Crime:
If a North Korean citizen commits a crime, their whole family could face punishment. Like many other despotic governments, the threat of incarceration and severe punishment always weighs heavy over North Korean citizens’ lives.

7-You have No Privacy As a Tourist: If you are somehow allowed to visit North Korea as a tourist, be prepared to have a government official watch over your every step. Every interaction, photograph, and visit must first be approved by the government.

8-Women Soiders Have It Rough: The women in North Korea’s military have to endure incredibly difficult conditions. First of all, they all have to have the same haircut, but they are also required to always march in unison. One misstep could be all it takes to get sent to a labor camp.

9 Driving is not Allowed For Most:
Another strange North Korean law is that most citizens are not allowed to drive. One of the more striking parts of photographs taken within North Korea are the vast stretches of empty highway. Only government-sanctioned individuals may own and drive a car.

10 You Cannot Make International Calls:
It is against the law to make an international call in North Korea without permission from the government. In 2007, a man was alleged to have been shot and killed by the government after making a number of international calls.

11 Opinions Are Against the Law: In North Korea, you cannot voice your opinions against government.

12 Don't Try Leaving the Country: If you try to flee North Korea and are caught, you will be executed or consigned to a labor camp. While it is hard to get into North Korea, it is even harder to leave.

So which of these North Korean laws do you find to be the most disturbing? Let us know in the comments below and don’t forget your opinions cannot be voiced in NORTH KOREA.

Crime / Survivor Gives Account On How Attack Happened-Anambra Church Killings by tee83: 11:25am On Aug 09, 2017
A man who survived the Ozubulu, Anambra State Catholic Church massacre has narrated how the attack happened. One of the survivors of the senseless massacre at the St. Philips Catholic Church in Ozubulu, Anambra State, Stephen Ohamadike, has recalled how the gunmen stormed the church and killed many of the innocent worshippers.

Ohamadike who spoke with Vanguard Newspaper said that the gunmen entered the church around 6.45 am as worshippers were about to begin 'prayer of the faithful'.

Narrating how the incident happened, Ohamadike said:

“Those of us who were to say the prayers of the faithful had just assembled at the altar and I had number two, which meant that I was to say the prayer for Nigeria.

Suddenly, I saw someone who was putting on a cap shooting indiscriminately inside the church. There was pandemonium and in the midst of the confusion, I just lay down on the floor.

The officiating priest and the Mass servers quickly left the altar and the Mass came to an abrupt end.

I counted 11 dead people and many who were wounded. I used the vehicle belonging to Pa Ikegwuonu to take him and his wife and others to Evans Hospital where the doctors advised us to go to the teaching hospital.

I used the car to convey many other people to the hospital before I came back to Amakwa.”

According to other eyewitnesses, trouble started for worshippers during the 6 am Mass when the gunmen rode into the church in a Lexus SUV, while one of them entered the church and shot at close range an elderly man who was later identified as Pa Ikegwuonu, while others remained in the vehicle outside.

It was learned that after killing the old man, the gunman opened fire on other worshippers as those who tried to flee were cut down by the gunmen outside the church.

Pa Ikegwuonu was said to be the father of Chief Aloysius Ikegwuonu who built and donated the church to the Nnewi Diocese, while his wife was also on the right arm and is still on admission at an undisclosed hospital.

It was gathered that the gunmen were looking for Chief Aloysius following an alleged drug deal in South Africa, where he reportedly duped his business partners and fled with the money to Nigeria.

It was gathered that he had returned to the village on Saturday with the aim of holding a Thanksgiving service in the church the next day but left later in the day.

According to a source, the gunmen had thought he was in the church after they saw his car driving in, not knowing it was the father who drove the vehicle and in their anger after realizing that they had missed their target, decided to kill the father and other worshippers.

Culture / I’m Alive – Awujale Speaks From Oriental Hotel by tee83: 1:13pm On Aug 01, 2017
The Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, has dismissed as untrue rumours of his death, saying he is hale and hearty.

Some blogs had on Monday reported the death of the Ogun State’s 83-year old monarch, who is spending his 57th year on the throne.

But, the respected monarch debunked the rumours about his death in a telephone conversation.

The Awujale has for the past week been a guest of Oriental Hotel in Victoria Island, in Lagos, where he has been staying after a routine medical checkup in a Lagos hospital, two weeks ago.

Awujale expressed surprise that some bloggers could be spreading rumours about his death without confirming from the palace in Ijebu-Ode or from his chiefs.

“Why are people spreading rumours about my death, when I am right here at Oriental,”he said.

He enjoined journalists to check the veracity of their information, before publishing.

Foreign Affairs / Putin Orders 755 U.S. Diplomats To Leave Russia-yahoo News by tee83: 2:25pm On Jul 31, 2017
MOSCOW (AP) — Russian President Vladimir Putin said Sunday the United States would have to cut its embassy and consulate staff in Russia by 755, heightening tensions between Washington and Moscow three days after the U.S. Congress approved sanctions against Russia.

In response, the U.S. State Department deemed it "a regrettable and uncalled for act."

Russian's Foreign Ministry on Friday ordered a reduction by Sept. 1 in the number of U.S. diplomatic personnel in Russia. It said it is ordering the U.S. Embassy to limit the number of embassy and consular employees in the country to 455 in response to approval of the new package of American sanctions. The White House has said U.S. President Donald Trump would sign those sanctions into law.

The legislation, which also targets Iran and North Korea, seeks to punish Moscow for meddling in the 2016 U.S. election and for its military aggression in Ukraine and Syria.

"We had hoped that the situation will somehow change, but apparently if it changes, it won't be soon," Putin said in an interview televised on Rossiya 1, explaining why Moscow decided to retaliate. "I thought it was the time to show that we're not going to leave it without an answer."

Russia is open to cooperating with the U.S. on various issues, including terrorism and cybercrime, but instead it "only hears unfounded accusations of meddling in U.S. domestic affairs," he said.

Putin said more than 1,000 people are currently employed at the Moscow embassy and three U.S. consulates in Russia. They include both Americans and Russians hired to work in the diplomatic offices.

The Russian leader did not explain how the figure of 755 positions was calculated.

In a statement, the State Department said: "This is a regrettable and uncalled for act. We are assessing the impact of such a limitation and how we will respond to it. We have no further comment at this time."

The State Department declined to give an exact number of American diplomats or other U.S. officials in Russia, but the figure is believed to be about 400, some of whom have families accompanying them on diplomatic passports.

The vast majority of the more than 1,000 employees at the various US diplomatic missions in Russia, including the embassy in Moscow and consulates in St. Petersburg, Vladivostok and Yekaterinburg, are local employees.

Asked about the potential for additional sanctions against Washington, Putin described the reduction in diplomatic staff as "painful" and said he currently opposes further measures.

"We certainly have something to respond with and restrict those areas of joint cooperation that will be painful for the American side, but I don't think we need to do it," he said, adding that such steps could also harm Russian interests.

Putin mentioned space and energy as the main areas where Russia and the United States have successfully pursued projects together.

Along with the cap on the size of the U.S. diplomatic corps in Russia, the Russian foreign ministry on Friday said it also was closing down a U.S. recreational retreat on the outskirts of Moscow as well as warehouse facilities.

The diplomatic tit-for-tat started under former U.S. President Barack Obama. In response to reports of Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election, Obama ordered the expulsion of 35 Russian diplomats and shut down two Russian recreational retreats in the U.S.

Politics / 7 Things We Learnt As President Meets APC Governors by tee83: 11:04am On Jul 25, 2017
It was the turn of APC Governors to meet Buhari this week and they left us a few things to chew on. On Sunday, July 23, 2017, the Nigerian presidency finally blessed the nation with a photo of President Muhammadu Buhari having bananas and Coca Cola.

The president was dining alongside Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), at the Abuja House in London.

It’s the first public photograph of Buhari since he left Nigeria on an open-ended medical vacation on May 7, 2017.

We can imagine that it was the best photograph from a number of takes. Nigerians wanted to see their president looking hale and hearty and that photo of a smiling Buhari has been bang on target.

Buhari is apparently looking healthier than when he left his homeland weeks ago. That Nigerians had to wait 77 days for a picture of their president, is subject matter for another day.

Here are seven things we learnt as the Nigerian president sat down for ‘supper’ with State Governors:

1. Buhari’s sense of humour is a thing. When acting president Yemi Osinbajo returned from his trip to London to see an ailing Buhari on July 13, he told the nation that her president hasn’t lost his sense of humour and wit. “Buhari is in very high spirits. He is recuperating very well and we had a very long conversation. We spoke for well over an hour and his humor is all there”, Osinbajo had said. Fast forward a couple of days later, and the president’s sense of humour was among the many things a bunch of Governors returned home with after they met Buhari.According to Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha who was among the traveling party, the “president was very cheerful and has not lost any bit of his sense of humour”. We thank God for sense of humour and wit.

2. Buhari has been following developments at home closely. Buhari hasn’t lost touch with the country he was elected to oversee on March 31, 2015, according to the Governors. That also means he knows what Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose and IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, think of him at this point. Not like he never did, anyway.
According to a statement from presidential spokesperson Femi Adesina, “the party delegation spent more than an hour with President Buhari over lunch, and it was very clear from the discussions that he followed developments at home very closely”.Oh well, isn’t that sorta....very reassuring?

3. Buhari is aware that you’ve been saying a lot of horrible things behind his back. We are not even about to guilt-trip you, but London has got ears too, you know. So, if for instance, you’ve been wishing the president dead and saying things like a cabal is holding him hostage, you better be very, very afraid. At least you can’t say we didn’t warn you. Here’s Femi Adesina again: “When asked to react to all the negative things being said about him, the president just laughed, describing such negative reports as lies. Governor Okorocha said president Buhari was completely unperturbed by the cocktail of lies. He, instead, sent his best wishes to Nigerians”.Awwwww. Mushy much? Sorry, guilty much?

4. Buhari knows that Nigerians now sell lies about him
. Ok, there’s a modern term for people who make a living off selling lies. It’s called ‘Fake news’.But Buhari and the Governors would rather refer to them as “merchants of lies.” Ouch! Here’s Governor Okorocha: “By our visit to London today, the merchants of lies have been put out of business and Nigerians will not buy the garbage they have been selling. All those who look up to fake news can find better use for their time.”That’s putting a whole lot of people out of business in a recession and we are not even sorry for them.

5. Only the Doctors are stopping Buhari from returning home. If you think Buhari hasn’t missed home, well, think again. The Doctors are the reason why he’s kept the entire nation waiting, guessing and speculating. Adesina and Okorocha put it this way: “Nigerians don’t have to worry at all….President Buhari will be back as soon as the doctors give him the green light”.You heard them. You don’t have to worry at all.

6. PDP Governors weren’t invited. I mean, imagine inviting Fayose for a meeting like this….a perfect opportunity for the Governor to get a lot off his chest, just slipped by.That musta hurt, right? The problem is that Fayose is PDP and if you must know, PDP Governors weren’t handed tickets to London. Some ministers and 'big boys' also made the trip, but they were all APC chieftains.Among the delegation for London were “Governors Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa; Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna; Yahaya Bello of Kogi; and APC National Chairman, Chief John Oyegun”. Rotimi Amaechi was also in the building and chuckling the whole time. Here’s a suggestion for PDP and its Governors--if you are excluded from the delegation for a particular trip, maybe organise yours?

7. Buhari loves hour-long meetings. When Osinbajo returned home, he said: "We spoke for well over an hour ..."When the Governors returned from their own trip, they said: "the delegation spent more than an hour with President Buhari over lunch".When next you are booked for a session with Buhari, just know your meeting will last a little over an hour. No more, no less.We outta here peeps!!
