semmyk: I don't know how the NHS band 3 pays. If it's marginal to care job, you might want to consider criticality of funds to you as a family at the moment; especially if owo is the ko ko (money na di tin)! If your concern is settlement in this country or career growth, you'll have to check other factors and weigh up. - will she be goings mainstream into Nursing - does it matter which pathway of healthcare she follows as a career: Care, Nursing, others - will those be critical when you're done studying and start working in your profession - will you both be pursuing professional career - is ILR a 'project must have' or you're not so keen so long you get by in the UK or 'jakpa' to other 'safe' haven or move back (9ja) to live big
Alongside status (to live in the UK), does the NHS pension makes any difference to you: AFAIK, NHS pension is one of the best (well, the academic will punts their annulation)
The dynamics for care job might change in the next year or so. That of nursing might follow the same upward trajectory #pay #mobility #dignity Read discourse regarding possible intervention in healthcare in page 538.
Above are not exhaustive factors. You'll need to consider your personal circumstances, aspirations. All the best. Ki Oluwa kọ gbogbo wa mọ ṣe. Àmín. Thanks |

kode12: Personally, I'd stay let her stick with the care job that pays her more. With the rising cost of living, you're going to need all of that income. NHS Band 3 pay is peanuts regardless of where you live in this country. She can continue working the care home job, and looking for other openings with higher pay. It's not worth sacrificing much better pay now for sponsorship especially where there's a possibility of getting same a few months down the line. Those with sponsorship right now what are they doing with it? (Y'all don't come for my head please). Enjoy the pay now, who knows if she's a great worker and the care employer is in dire need, they might sponsor her there as well. At the end of the day it's choosing between short term (sure)benefits and long term (uncertain) gain. At the rate the country is going, by the time you're done on a tier 4 visa, you might already be looking at mission japa part 2. Okay. Thanks |

Hello Elders, please is there any advantage working for NHS as a band 3 Nursing Assistant?
My Wife works with a care home. She work as many shifts as possible depending on what are strength permits. We are also looking at healthcare sponsorship as she's comfortable with the job and I'm the one studying on tier 4 visa. Now, she got a Job with NHS as a Nursing assistant. She can only work for a 37.5 hrs per week.
When it comes to settlement in this country or career growth, please is it worth it for her to move from the private care home to NHS despite earning less? |

semmyk: Verbally has no bearing except it's reduced to writing (in one form or the other) or recorded as 'intent'. Given the 6 mths tenancy has ended, (an assumption), in my limited understanding, then you default to monthly on same basis. In the event of eviction process, this month-to-month comes to bearing. In any case, it's time to start looking dutifully and diligently without slack! NB: In btw, by you requesting or demanding, you might or you'll end up doing the duty of the landlady or new owner [PS: Addendum] above might fall away if you're subletting and do not hold a written agreement with deposit. Essentially, you're not seen as legal entity, rent wise. That doesn't mean you don't have recourse. PS: these are opinion and do not construed legal advice in law. I did not sublet any part of the property. I have started looking for another place asap. Thanks |

Ticha: Are you subletting? ie - living in one room and she lives there too? If so then you have very little wriggle room and you will have to leave. Boarders don't have much legal standing under tenancy laws.
However if you are renting the whole house, then she needs to issue a S21. And also check that it is issued properly. Did she lodge your deposit? Provide you with right to rent documents? Have an EICR and GSC? Are those in date? If no, she has to do all those, issue them and give you an S21. If you deposit is not protected and those documents not provided, you can actually sue her for the whole rent you have paid... Thanks as always Ticha. I'm not subleting. I will ask for an S21 while I look for another place as directed. |

Hello Elders, I spent 6 months already in my rented apartment as stated in the Tenancy agreement. My landlady just told me verbally she sold the house, that the new owner would not be subleting and I need to quickly look for another place.
I'm thinking I should ask for an official eviction notice with the hope that I will have some time to look for a comfortable place for my family.
How does these things work in this country please? |

Adayoung: Thanks for this great thread, it is much needed. For those in England, how does one register for reception/ primary school? My child will be 4 in September and still nursery. When is the best time to start applying for primary school/reception?
I think Whatever age a child clocks before August 31st will determine if he/she will be able to start reception in England(I stand to be corrected)
Secondly, how do I go about applying? Do I send a mail to any school of my choosing or apply via council?
Most application for school placement goes through the council. You can check your councils website, there should be information about how you can pick your preferred schools there.
Also, I have identified the schools with outstanding ofset records but they a long drive from where I live, can my child still be given a place in such schools ? ( I don’t mind the distance)?
I think your council will consider schools that are closer to your home first.
Pardon my many questions, the system of education is quite different from what I know and I’m trying to do the best I can for my kids
We all are trying to do our best for our kids oo. Hopefully, elders will be able to give further info on your questions soon. All the best |

mex551: have you registered with a GP and gotten your NHS number ? If affirmative, download NHS app , follow the directive on how to get covid pass. They will assign you to a location where they will physically collect your vaccine card and check it. After that, they will now upload the pass into your app. That might take up to 2 weeks after the physical verification of your Naija covid card. I did mine few weeks ago Okay. I have registered with a GP. Thanks |

Hello, please I need advice/suggestions.
I will be travelling to the UK in January with my family as an international student. While searching for accommodation, I got a 3 bedroom flat in Durham. Unfortunately, I couldn't get someone to do viewing for me (though the landlady immediately agreed that I sent someone and also dropped her phone numbers). So, I opted for virtual viewing and everything looks good.
She is not yet married and she said she's been in the UK for 6 years. Can someone co-own a property in UK in this short period?(She's Ghanaian and the other person is Nigerian). I was told to pay a deposit of £500 while I will pay the monthly rent of £570 when we are ready to move in. She didn't request for a guarantor as well.
She always sound nice and ready to help. Infact, she agreed that I can pay half of the deposit now and the balance in January before we arrive.
Elders, is it possible that this woman want to scam me or it's just one of those things? I got to know about the co-owner when I got the rent contract and according to her, she has a lower share in the property. The account number for payment is also hers.
Can I proceed please? |
