PoliticsWaste: LASG Warns Ladipo, Oyingbo Markets Of Impending Indefinite Closure by teegrams(op): 12:51am On Sep 16, 2022
Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) says it will shut down Ladipo and Oyingbo markets till further notice over reckless waste dumping, refusal to pay for waste services, and general poor waste management.

Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) LAWMA, said in a statement on Thursday in Lagos that the markets would be shut by Sept. 22.

Odumboni said that the unwholesome environmental practices by traders in the markets, despite repeated warnings, called for necessary and immediate sanctions.

“Our attention has been drawn to the deplorable state of the environment around Ladipo Market, Mushin and Oyingbo Market, resulting from reckless waste dumping by traders.

“Despite serving them abatement notices, they have continued the mindless environmental violation.

“We are left with no other choice than to evoke the necessary sanction of shutting down the markets.

“This is also meant to serve as a deterrent to other nonchalant markets,” Odumboni said.

He said that the authority had in recent times redoubled its efforts to ensure that business activities in all Lagos markets were carried out in a clean and safe environment, for the good of all.

“We have intensified our sanitation efforts by deploying trucks to clear black spots across the metropolis, especially business facilities.

“However, these efforts are being tainted by the activities of mischievous persons who would rather dump their waste indiscriminately on the roads, than pay for waste services,” Odumboni said
.

He urged traders in other markets to adhere strictly to environmental hygiene or risk indefinite closure of their markets.

Meanwhile, LAWMA said that a mobile court sitting in Oshodi had sentenced two environmental offenders for waste burning and dumping refuse in the drain during rainfall.

The Authority said that both offenders were apprehended at Ikeja and Lekki axis respectively.

It said the first offender was sentenced on a two-count charge: one year imprisonment or a ₦50,000 fine, and one month imprisonment, without the option of a fine.

The second offender was remanded in a correctional facility, pending bail conditions, according to LAWMA

The LAWMA boss reiterated the determination of the Authority to stamp out all forms of indiscriminate waste disposal in the metropolis.

He said that the enforcement team had been mandated to monitor the environment and arrest persons bent on derailing efforts of the Authority to make Lagos cleaner and livable.

Odumboni appealed to residents to imbibe the habit of effective waste management by bagging and containerizing their waste, for easy evacuation by assigned Private Sector Participants (PSP) operators.

He said that delay of evacuation by PSPs should be reported to the Authority using its toll-free lines, as an excuse, when caught, would not be entertained.

Politics2023: APC Campaign Council Dismisses Poll Giving Obi Lead by teegrams(op): 12:13am On Sep 16, 2022
The All-Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has described a recent poll that gave the Labour Party (LP) Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi the lead in next year’s poll as one that is ‘inconsistent with reality’.

The Matrix had reported that a poll commissioned by the Anap Foundation and conducted by NOI Polls Limited, had listed the election as a three-horse race. It said Obi is leading the race with 21 per cent of the votes. His votes give him an eight per cent lead over APC’s Tinubu and PDP’s Abubakar who each got 13 per cent of the votes to end up as joint second in the poll.

But the APC council in a statement hours after the result of the poll was released, said it is “unperturbed by these dubious and unreliable statistics because our research shows that NOI Polls have been off the mark at critical election periods in recent times.

“The attention of the APC Presidential Campaign Council has been drawn to a poll conducted by the NOI polls which made wild and incredible permutations on the presidential elections.

We are unperturbed by these dubious and unreliable statistics because our research shows that NOI Polls have been off the mark at critical election periods in recent times” the statement titled NOI Polls inconsistent with Nigerian Reality said.

Continuing, the statement said, “For example, preparatory to the March 2015 presidential elections, NOI published in October 2014 the results of a “Viability Poll” which used the concepts of Familiarity and Net Favourability Position to survey.

“In the results, NOI claimed that President Goodluck Jonathan has the best overall familiarity rating at 99% and a Net Favourability Probability of ±25.

“By contrast, NOI dismissed the then All Progressives Congress candidate, Muhammadu Buhari as a “borderline candidate” who needed” huge public relations” to shore up his performance. But when the Nigerian people went to the polls, who won? The APC candidate and now President, Muhammadu Buhari.”

The statement by the Director, Media, and Publicity of the council, Bayo Onanuga, accused the NOI of turning its “political bias in an election period to fraudulent statistics.

“The NOI has chosen the preferred candidate and has decided to use fake, dubious statistics to package him to the Nigerian voters,” Onanuga said in the statement.

“We know, as a matter of fact, the owners of NOI and where their political interest lies and wish to advise NOI to stop polluting the political system with irresponsible, unscientific, and biased polling so that we don’t expose the puppeteers pulling its strings
.

“Our party is putting every necessary machinery in motion to win the federal elections with a margin that will be too wide to contest. Our candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu recorded the highest votes of a senator across the country under the Social Democratic Party in July 1992. He will do it on a nationwide scale on February 25, 2023.”

EducationHeightened Expectation As ASUU, Governing Council, Vcs Meet Today by teegrams(op): 1:05am On Sep 14, 2022
There are indications that the almost-seven-month-old strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) may soon be over as the varsities lecturers have proposed a meeting of the leadership of the union, the governing council of Universities and Vice-Chancellors.

The meeting it was learnt is scheduled for Wednesday, September 14, 2022.

It would be recalled that the Federal Government had on September 6, held a meeting with the vice-chancellors, pro-chancellors, and management of federal universities over the ongoing strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

It would be recalled that ASUU had, on February 14 embarked on a warning strike to demand, among other things, the implementation of the 2009 renegotiated agreement. The bout of extended warning strikes was to evolve into a full-blown industrial action in recent weeks.

The academics are seeking improved welfare, revitalization of public universities and academic autonomy among other demands.

One bone of contention for academics is the non-payment of university revitalization funds, which amounts to about N1.1 trillion.

But the Federal Government has said it doesn’t have the money to pay such an amount, citing low oil prices during the Muhammadu Buhari administration.

The two parties have also been on a warring path since the strike started with accusations and counter-accusations flying around.

SportsUCL: Liverpool Returns To Winning Ways After Napoli Rout by teegrams(op): 12:49am On Sep 14, 2022
Joel Matip's late header earned Liverpool a 2-1 win over Ajax as their Champions League campaign finally had to lift off at Anfield.

Beaten badly by Napoli last week, the scrutiny on Jurgen Klopp's side looked set to be amplified when Mohammed Kudus cancelled out Mohamed Salah's opener early on. But Matip rose to head home with minutes remaining to win it for Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Tottenham were stunned by Sporting Lisbon as two late goals condemned Antonio Conte's side to a 2-0 defeat in their Champions League Group D clash at Estadio Jose Alvalade.

The game appeared to be heading for a stalemate before Sporting substitute Paulinho headed a Pedro Goncalves corner past Hugo Lloris in the final minute of normal time.

The hosts then wrapped up the points in stoppage time when Arthur Gomes, another substitute, cut in from the left and breezed past Cristian Romero and Emerson Royal before slotting a low finish into the corner.

Spurs, back in action after the weekend's Premier League postponements following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, were a long way below their best on the night, struggling to create clear chances and unable to contain Sporting's counter-attacking threat.

Bayern Munich scored twice in four minutes against the run of play through Lucas Hernandez and Leroy Sane to beat Barcelona 2-0 in their Champions League Group C match on Tuesday.

It was an unhappy return to Munich for Barca striker Robert Lewandowski, who left the Bavarians in the summer after eight years, with the Germans now top of their group on six points from two matches.

Barcelona are on three points, along with Inter. Viktoria Plzen are in last place. Barcelona were dominant for 50 minutes and have only themselves to blame for not taking the lead, with Lewandowski coming close twice and Pedri and Gavi also missing golden chances.

PoliticsInsecurity: Why Amotekun Corps Should Be Allowed To Bear Arms - Akeredolu by teegrams(op): 2:00pm On Sep 08, 2022
Following the outrage that trailed the decision of the Federal Government to award a contract for the protection of pipelines in the South-South to a private security company owned by the Commander of a militant group, Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND), Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo popularly known as Tompolo, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has again explained the need for officers of the Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed Amotekun Corps to bear arms than non-state actors, saying the security of lives transcends the protection of pipelines.

Akerodolu made this known in a statement released on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde.

“Most of the people and even some of my colleagues didn’t really understand my position on the oil pipeline surveillance contract. I have no issue with the Federal Government awarding surveillance contracts to anybody. It is Federal Government’s money. They can use it anyhow they want”.

“Here, we are spending our money on Amotekun. And what I said in my statement titled, ‘Who Actually Needs Weapon’ was that the Federal Government should allow Amotekun to carry sophisticated weapons like those whom they awarded pipeline surveillance contracts.”

“If you can allow individuals to carry heavy arms to protect pipelines, why won’t you allow Amotekun to carry sophisticated weapons to protect the people? The oil facilities are not more important than the lives of the people,” he said.

Akeredolu, who is the chairman of the South-West Governors’ Forum and the 17-member Southern Governors’ Forum, was quoted to have made the statement at the commissioning of the newly reconstructed office complex at the Ondo State Oil Producing Area Development Commission at Oba-Ile, in the Akure North Local Government Area of the state.

PoliticsGround Shifts Under Ayu As Atiku Supports Calls For Party Chairman’s Resignation by teegrams(op): 1:53pm On Sep 08, 2022
It appears that the days of Iyorchia Ayu as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may be numbered as indications have emerged that the Presidential Candidate of the party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is in support of his removal.

A well-placed chieftain of the party, Katch Ononuju dropped indications that Atiku is ready to sacrifice Ayu in a bid to have a peaceful party which will boost his chances of winning the February 2023 presidential poll.

“From my own insider information, the candidate wants Mr Ayu to resign but there are hogs in the party who are telling them, ‘Ayu, don’t resign’. I don’t know why. The candidate wants Mr Ayu to leave so that he could have a peaceful party to go to the election,” Ononuju said Thursday while appearing on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme.

“If Atiku keeps saying he is a unifier, let him now unify the party by taking decisions and also acting to aid the southerners in this issue of inclusion,” he added.

He said Ayu is the reason for the current internal implosion of the party. “If he (Ayu) stays, he divides the party; if he stays, the party could lose. If he stays, the party implodes with the staying put.”

Ononuju said the agitation for a southerner to replace Ayu is beyond Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, but a collective demand by the southern caucus of the PDP who are against the idea of northerners occupying the three top positions of the party – Atiku (Adamawa State), Ayu (Benue State); as well as the Board of Trustees Chairman, Walid Jibrin (Nasarawa State).

However, the national chairman of the party has insisted that he won’t step down till after his four-year single term.

To this, Ononuju said, “If he (Ayu) goes, we have mechanisms, we’ve had chairmen who have left without completing their four-year term. The person (Uche Secondus) he replaced didn’t complete his four-year term. “He should understand the way he came is also the door he will go through. He should understand that our party is that way.

“Right now, we believe he is overstayed his welcome. So, politely, as members of the same party, so that he doesn’t continue to stay there and continue to call our governors children, he should simply just go away and let us sort ourselves.”

According to him, the agitation for a southern national chairman is an issue of inclusion, adding that the government of Atiku could be fraught with nepotism should he win the presidential election.

The 15th Headies Award took place at the Cobb Arts and Culture events Center in Atlanta USA on 4th September 2022, this event has met a lot of criticism as to why an African award was held on a foreign soil .

Aside from the venue of the events , others have raised an eyes with the presence of the Lagos state government at the award and why an industry that stood up against the oppressive government during the #endsars protest will give such recognition to someone who was alleged to have partaken in the order.

The events has created so many buzz from Tunde ednut announcing his long time rivalry Wizkid for and award ,to Don jazzy walking out on Dbanj on stage ,also portable has been in the news for his reactions after the award and Zinolesky fans have assured him after a video of the Malian crew chanting to one of his songs went viral

InvestmentWhy Fintech, Telecoms, Real Estate Topped List Of Thriving Sectors In Africa by teegrams(op): 6:01am On Sep 07, 2022
In recent times, Africa has emerged as one of the most profitable regions for local and foreign capitalists to invest in.

The continent is currently experiencing an influx of ideas, innovations, and revenue, propelling an unrelenting economic reformation.

Various sectors like Fintech, Agritech, Telecommunication and Information & Technology (I.T.) sector, Transport and logistics industry, and Mining industry have emerged as the mainstay of the African economy.

The economies of countries such as Nigeria, South Africa, and Kenya, among others, have prompted a significant rise in the amount of revenue the continent generates as a whole.

New market potentials coupled with the continent’s arable and resource-filled lands have led many experts to deduce that Africa could become a major economic player on the global stage, assuming the massive wealth pouring into the continent is properly managed.

According to leading investment platform, ARISE Integrated Industrial Platforms, while sectors like banking and finance remain crucial drivers of Africa’s economic development, new-age domains like I.T. and telecom are increasingly playing a critical role in Africa. Besides, with the pandemic re-emphasizing the need for modernizing healthcare and logistics, growth opportunities are virtually limitless. Some of the other active players in Africa include the real estate sector, fashion industry, automobile industry, and insurance industry.

Speaking further, ARISE IIP disclosed that Fintech, Telecoms, Transport and Logistics topped the list of thriving sectors, and industries to invest in Africa and what makes them tick.

“Several sectors tie directly into the population growth of an economy. Transport and logistics is one such industry. Interstate and overseas travel is at an all-time high, and local transportation has never been in such high demand. The same goes for logistics as there is more need for people to transport cargo.

According to a report last month by Business Insider Africa, Lori, a Kenyan e-logistics company digitizing haulage, has helped thousands of shippers and carriers move over $10 billion of cargo across the continent since its founding in 2017. This is one of the many logistics companies making huge strides in the African economy” the platform stated.

“Real estate is another market that is directly tied to the population rate of an economy. The more people there are, the more need there is for housing options, land ownership, real estate investments, and infrastructures. AfricaWorks, a flexible co-working space provider on the continent, is a prime example of what success looks like as a corporate real estate company. The company was recently listed as the 4th fastest growing company in Africa by Financial Times, proving that the real estate market in Africa is ripe for the taking.

Telecommunications: Unlike other continents, the internet penetration of Africa is deplorable, to say the least, which is why the future of this market seems very encouraging. As tech continues to become more accessible and affordable, more people within the continent would have no choice but to get with the times. Telecom companies are raking in billions of dollars in annual revenue. As of 2021, MTN Group, Africa’s largest telecommunications provider, had annual revenue of $5.6 billion with a userbase of 277.3 million subscribers; Orange Africa had $6.8 billion with a user base of 130 million subscribers, and Vodafone brought in $6.8 billion with a user base of 123,7 million subscribers. Telecommunications is a business that is here to stay” the platform added.

The platform also identified Agritech as a rather interesting sector to key into. It’s the sweet spot where agriculture meets tech, creating tech-driven solutions the African agricultural sector desperately needs. These digital solutions act like a ripple effect as more innovative young minds seek to make their contributions to growing this now lucrative industry. Just this year alone, Nairametrics reported the top 5 Logitech startups with the highest amount of funding received. Sitting atop that list was Nigerian agri-tech startup ThriveAgric which recorded the largest fundraising in the AgriTech sector, coming in at a whopping $58.15 million. Ghanaian-based Agtech Farmerline has also raised $12.9 million in equity debt to help farmers access quality supplies.

“The fintech explosion in Africa is large because the general African fintech wave followed the penetration of mobile phone technology. The growth of this sector is evident by the huge amount of funding it attracts each year. There are currently seven tech unicorns in Africa, with fintech unicorns being the majority. To name a few, Flutterwave, Chippercash, and Fawry are among the top fintech startups creating value that comes with solving real problems within large user markets. The space also includes ‘soonicorns’, or companies that are on their way to becoming future unicorns, such as TeamApt, and Kuda Bank.

The year 2021 saw more and bigger deals closed in Africa, as tech startups across the continent raised close to $5 billion. This amount was double the previous year’s investment and nine times what was raised five years ago, an indication of how much the startup scene has transformed over the last few years.

Fintechs dominated the fundraising, accounting for nearly $3 billion, or two-thirds of all the investment realized by startups across the continent last year, a report by markets insights firm Briter Bridges shows. This amount was also more than double the $1.35 billion investment that fintech in Africa raised in 2020, and triple the amount in 2019.

Among the largest beneficiaries of the fintech capital were Opay, which raised $400 million in Series C funding; Flutterwave, which got $170 million in a Series C round; and TymeBank, which raised $180 million in a Series B. Jumo and MNT Halan raised $120 million rounds, as digital payments gateway MFS Africa gained $100 million. This was as Zepz (formerly WorldRemit) raised $292 million in Series E financing, while Chipper Cash raised $250 million, Tala $145 million and Wave sealed $200 million in funding.

And, given the incremental funding for fintech in Africa over the years, capital injected into these startups is only likely to increase with deepening mobile phone usage and internet penetration.

Mobile subscriber penetration across the continent is predicted to increase by four percentage points to hit 615 million — half of the continent’s population — by 2025, according to the GSM Association. It is also poised for greater growth as the adoption of lending, digital payments, banking and insurance services grows.

Financial Technology Partners, an investment banking firm focused exclusively on fintech, in a past review of the sector in Africa said that the continent, with its rapidly growing population, some of the fastest-growing economies and an underdeveloped financial services ecosystem, presents an attractive opportunity for fintech.

“While the payment space begins to see scale-ups such as Flutterwave, Chipper, MFS Africa, Cellulant and Jumo playing alongside global, established providers such as Visa, Mastercard and Stripe, the next few years are likely to (in fact, we already do) see increased movements across other fintech verticals, from lending to KYC, SME management software, and decentralised finance. This, and greater M&A activity, as the ecosystem moves towards maturity and consolidation,” director at Briter Bridges Dario Giuliani told TechCrunch.

Romance5 Things Men Notice First When Looking At A Woman by teegrams(op): 4:41pm On Aug 30, 2022
You may probably sometimes wonder what men think when they notice you in the street? You’ve often heard all those superstitions concerning men first looking at your butt and breasts.

Well, according to the scientists, men pay attention to totally other things and those things don’t even have to concern your body. If you want to read men’s minds and get to know their first thoughts when you see each other, then continue reading! You may be quite surprised that men are not what a lot of women take for granted!

1. Eyes
Another common thing men notice first about a woman is her eyes. I’m sure you’ve heard that the eyes are the windows to your soul. They can tell us a lot about a person. It can be easy to find out if someone is lying to you or simply telling the truth. Eyes are real magnets that can attract and interest a stranger.

Surveys have shown that nearly 70 % of men pay attention to woman’s eyes first and only then to everything else. Don’t believe that it’s chest that men firstly pay attention to! It’s always easier for men to compliment woman’s eyes since women respond very approvingly to compliments about their eyes rather than other parts of the body.

2. Hair
Long, healthy and shiny hair can’t go unnoticed. A good condition of your hair is a sign of youth and good health! They say that blonde girls are more attractive to men but this is so untrue! Women of all hair colors have the same chance. Men have different preferences, some of them prefer blondes because they look more delicate, innocent, simply like angles. However, others will always search for brunette girls claiming that they look more mysterious.

Redheads also have their own chance because they look seductive and wild! He may pay attention to the way you style your hair and if they look unkempt and greasy then it definitely doesn’t look attractive. So instead of looking for some new dye to look different with new color, invest in moisturizing shampoos and conditioners and take a good care of your hair. Such an attitude will pay off and he won’t take his eyes off your shiny, healthy-looking hair.

3. Skin
Most men also pay attention to the way a woman’s skin looks. Numerous surveys have showed that a man sees a good complexion as a sure sign of health. Most men think that a woman with a healthy-looking complexion is healthy and she can produce healthy offspring.

4. Smile
A smiling woman is a signal that men don’t have to hesitate and can start flirtation! A smiling woman also means good nature, kindness, and sense of humor – who wouldn’t like to date such a person? A smiling woman simply works like a magnet drawing attention to her optimistic nature. Laughter is contagious so people around you can only feel better! Don’t say you are too shy to smile at that guy whom you barely know! You don’t need to say anything but smiling will work as an invitation.

Some girls say that they rarely smile because of their teeth. They are crooked or not so white. Well, this is not a good excuse, ladies! Commercials have been promoting a perfect smile without any flaws but this is just a commercial, it was probably photoshopped for many hours! And most men don’t have strict criteria allowing them to date only girls who look like models. They are also just normal guys with their own imperfections so they will understand your own too.

5. Dressing style
Probably, it’s a surprising thing but most men do notice a woman’s dressing style. A recent study has found that most men prefer a classy dresser to a woman who shows too much of her skin. Men love some mystery about women, but half-naked body reveals all the secrets. A great sense of style can tell a lot about you, keep it in mind! Your perfume and makeup tell about your taste. Your heels and accessories reveal your lifestyle and sophistication

PoliticsTop 5 African Countries Most Hit By The Grain Crisis In Ukraine by teegrams(op): 5:51am On Jul 27, 2022
The war in Ukraine has exerted upward pressure on already elevated global food prices, with major effects on acute food insecurity.

Furthermore, economic concerns are additionally driving food insecurity, as the world economy – still recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic – has slowed down due to global supply chain disruptions, high levels of inflation and increasing public debt.

According to Business Insider, a recently published 2022, Global Report on Food Crises alerts that 193 million people were facing a food crisis or worse.

Ethiopia, Nigeria, and South Sudan are among countries with populations identified to experience starvation or at risk of deterioration towards catastrophic conditions and require the most urgent attention.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP) has warned that acute food insecurity is likely to deteriorate further in some countries or situations during the outlook period from June to September 2022.

These countries all have parts of populations identified or projected to experience starvation or death (Catastrophe, IPC Phase 5) or at risk of deterioration towards catastrophic conditions and require the most urgent attention.

According to the report, about 19.5 million people are projected to be in crisis or worse levels of acute food insecurity in Nigeria during the lean season (June– August 2022), including 1.2 million in an emergency, if humanitarian interventions are not scaled up and sustained.

Three states (Borno, Adamawa and Yobe) contain about half the population in an emergency, and more than one-quarter of people in critical need of emergency assistance in Borno are projected to be located in inaccessible areas where access to life-saving assistance is expected to be lacking.

Below are the five countries most hit by the crisis

The Democratic Republic of the Congo
In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, 25.9 million people are projected to face crisis or worse levels of acute food insecurity, including 5.4 million people in an emergency between January and June 2022. The recent escalation in conflicts and population movements, as well as increasing food prices, could increase the magnitude and severity of acute food insecurity, especially in eastern provinces.

Nigeria

Reaching the highest level on record, about 19.5 million people are projected to be in crisis or worse levels of acute food insecurity in Nigeria during the lean season (June– August 2022), including 1.2 million in an emergency, if humanitarian interventions are not scaled up and sustained.

Three states (Borno, Adamawa and Yobe) contain about half the population in an emergency, and more than one-quarter of people in critical need of emergency assistance in Borno are projected to be located in inaccessible areas where access to life-saving assistance is expected to be lacking.

Ethiopia
In 2021, 18 million people were estimated to require food assistance in Ethiopia, and this number is likely to have increased further. Major economic challenges will likely be further aggravated by Ethiopia’s high dependence on fuel, fertiliser and wheat imports, with two-thirds of wheat imports traditionally sourced from the Russian Federation and Ukraine. As a result, already high local food prices – 43.4 per cent food inflation year-on-year in March 2022161 – will likely further increase. Furthermore, already high costs of fertilisers are expected to increase further due to the ripple effects of the war in Ukraine.

South Sudan

The most recent IPC analysis projected that 7.7 million people would face crisis or worse levels of acute food insecurity between April and July 2022. This includes almost 2.9 million people in emergency and 87 000 in catastrophe. These numbers show a 7 per cent increase in the number of people in crisis or worse and a 17 per cent increase of people in emergency or worse compared to the same period last year. Populations in the catastrophe are located in counties in Jonglei, Lakes, Unity states, and Greater Pibor Administrative Area.

Somalia
More than 6 million people – 38 per cent of the population – are projected to face a crisis or worse levels of acute food insecurity between April and June 2022, including 1.7 million people in emergency and 81 000 people in catastrophe. The combination of a prolonged drought, increasing conflict, and rising food prices are projected to drive food insecurity up, reaching catastrophic levels for more than 81 000 people by June 2022 and with a risk of famine in several areas

SportsChelsea Signs Highly-rated Arsenal Youngster Omari Hutchinson by teegrams(op): 11:23am On Jul 16, 2022
Chelsea have completed the signing of the highly-rated teenage forward Omari Hutchinson from Arsenal.

The gifted winger has represented England at youth level, but made his senior international debut for Jamaica in a friendly against Catalonia in May of this year.

Head of Chelsea’s youth recruitment Jim Fraser said: ‘We are delighted that Omari has agreed to sign for Chelsea. He is a brilliant addition who joins us as an exciting emerging talent hoping to make a quick impression in the senior game.’

The 18-year-old winger regularly featured as a member of the first team squad last season and was an unused substitute several occasions during the run-in as Mikel Arteta’s squad was stretched to the limit by injuries and suspensions.

Arsenal have promoted a number of Hale End graduates into the first team over the course of Arteta’s reign, and Hutchinson was expected to follow the path trodden by the likes of Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe.

Hutchinson featured in the behind closed doors friendly against Ipswich earlier this month but didn’t travel with squad which flew to Germany last week for the 5-3 win over Nurnberg.

The Jamaica international was also left out of the squad which flew to America earlier this week and has now signed a long-term contract with Arsenal’s London rivals.

Chelsea have so far focused their efforts on strengthening a first team squad that has lost defensive stalwarts Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen already during the close season.

The Blues have now completed the signing of Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly, but a deal for Nathan Ake has collapsed with Chelsea unwilling to meet Manchester City’s asking price.

Following that setback, Chelsea are expected to go back in for Jules Kounde who came close to moving to Stamford Bridge from Sevilla last summer.

Chelsea strengthened their forward line earlier this week by completing the signing of Raheem Sterling from City but are unlikely to make further additions to their attack.

Talks between owner Thomas Tuchel and Todd Boehly took place earlier this week, but the pair came to the conclusion that they would resist the temptation of making an attempt to sign wantaway Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.

Chelsea do, however, intend to bolster their squad with a number of talented youngsters but Tuchel is adamant further senior recruits are required if his team is to compete with City and Liverpool next season.

‘The stakes are high and we’re competing not only against the best teams who have ever played in the Premier League but also the best coaches,’ said Tuchel.

‘We come from sanctions, we come from losing top-quality players, key players, we are a club in transition, in transition of ownership.

It is barely 24 Hours to the D-Day as Osun State residents elect the next governor of the state, the major political parties have concluded their mega rallies and the voters are set to head to the polls to cast their ballots.

While there will be 15 candidates on the ballots that were cleared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the exercise billed for Saturday, all eyes are on Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Lasun Yusuf of the Labour Party (LP), and Akin Ogunbiyi who is flying the flag of Accord Party (AP).

In this report, The Matrix relying on data provided by TheCable scrutinizes the front-runners and reports

Gboyega Oyetola (APC)

Oyetola, the incumbent governor of the state, is seeking reelection for a second term in office. Oyetola enjoys the privileges that come with being in power and he is running on the platform of the ruling party, affording him the perks of ‘federal might’.

Oyetola who is a cousin to Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the APC, had served as chief of staff to Rauf Aregbesola, his predecessor.

With the victory recently recorded by the APC in the Ekiti governorship election, the party is determined to replicate the feat in Osun. This was evident on Tuesday, as Tinubu, Kashim Shettima, his running mate, Abdullahi Adamu, national chairman of the APC, and other heavyweights of the ruling party converged in Osun to campaign for Oyetola.

Unlike his predecessor who owed salaries for months while in office, Oyetola is said to have been consistent with salary payment and also improved the welfare of civil servants in the state. All of these, pundits argue, may work in his favour.

But the cold war between Oyetola and Aregbesola may likely reduce the former’s votes in LGAs controlled by the latter. Oyetola, after assuming office, had reversed some of the policies put in place by his predecessor – a development which gave rise to acrimony.

The disharmony within the party divided the APC into factions; the Ileri Oluwa group is loyal to Oyetola while the other faction – TOP – pledges allegiance to Aregbesola, the minister of interior.

During the APC governorship primary election in February, Aregbesola showed his hand by backing Moshood Adeoti for the ticket.

Speaking on a campaign trail for Adeoti, Aregbesola had said Oyetola would be ousted from office for failing to stick to the plan that was conceived to make Osun prosperous.

“That was how it was in Lagos at a time; a governor derailed and the party members unseated him using the ballot boxes. As it was in Lagos yesterday, so shall it be in Osun today,” he had said.

Although there have been attempts to resolve their rift, the moves appear to have been unsuccessful as Aregbesola was absent during the APC mega rally for Oyetola.

Ademola Adeleke (PDP)

Known as the ‘dancing senator’, Adeleke, candidate of the PDP, has said he is determined to recover his “stolen mandate” from the APC.

The PDP candidate came into the limelight after the death of his elder brother — Isiaka Adeleke. The deceased, then a serving senator, was nursing his governorship ambition when he died.

Following his brother’s demise, Adeleke became a sensation in Osun when he declared his intention to run for governor in 2018.

Though he lost to Oyetola, Adeleke believes he won the election and was robbed of his mandate. Hence, he has expressed his readiness to give APC a run for its money in his second attempt.

The PDP governor is also renowned for his heavy war chest. While addressing members of the PDP in the state in May, Adeleke had boasted about his arsenal of funds.

“If it is about money, I have enough. I came with plenty of money. And it is not only naira; I came with dollars, pounds, and euros. This time in Osun, it is fire for fire,” he said in Yoruba.

Many Nigerians interpreted his comment as an indication of a plan to buy the votes of the electorate, but during the governorship election debate organised by Channels Television, Adeleke said he was misinterpreted.

The governorship candidate said his statement was referencing the foreign investment he intends to bring into Osun.

In spite of his war chest, the crisis in Osun PDP may affect his chances, as the party is also divided into factions. One faction is recognised by the APC national working committee (NWC) while the other group is backed by Olagunsoye Oyinlola, a former governor of the state, whose political sway in the state cannot be overlooked.

Although Oyinlola’s faction held a parallel primary election which produced Dotun Babayemi as the winner, Adeleke enjoys the support of the party leadership and its heavyweights. On Thursday, Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate, led other members of the party to the state to campaign for him.

Lasun Yusuf (Labour Party)

A former deputy speaker of the house of representatives, Yusuf is not a greenhorn in Nigerian politics — but he’s a first-timer in the Osun governorship race.

A native of Ilobu, Yusuf decided to try his hands at the Osun election by declaring his bid for the governorship seat on the platform of the APC.

But he had a dismal outing during the primary election — he placed a distant third and even lost his ward to Oyetola.

After failing to secure the APC ticket, he resigned his membership of the ruling party and defected to the Labour Party (LP) where he won the party’s governorship ticket.

Outlining his manifesto, Yusuf said he is optimistic that he would win the governorship election.

It is unclear if he has a strong structure and widespread support base in the state but Nigerians are waiting to see how he intends to walk his talk.

Akin Ogunbiyi (Accord Party)

Ogunbiyi, the candidate of the Accord Party (AP), is not new to the Osun governorship race.

He ventured into the governorship election in 2018 on the platform of the PDP. He was Adeleke’s major contender during the primary election but he lost the ticket.

Ogunbiyi and some aggrieved members of the party were convinced that he won the election, alleging that it was rigged in Adeleke’s favour.

In March 2022, he eventually pledged allegiance to Accord Party, saying he was “treated unfairly, cheated against and even blatantly robbed” in the PDP.

Speaking in a recent interview with PUNCH, Ogunbiyi said he is “the candidate to beat” and that his new party is ready to show its strength in the coming election.

“I am the candidate to beat. Accord has a structure in 27 local government areas in Osun state. The Accord Party has been among the top three political parties in Osun state for some time,” he said.

They can nevertheless have fulfilling lives. Just because someone marries and has kids doesn't necessarily indicate they are content. In the same way, just because someone is single or doesn't have kids doesn't imply they should be depressed.

The only thing that could harm them is if individuals continue to make fun of and mistreat them.

I'm hoping that this will change as the generations change.

For Most people getting married is a joyous thing, and they say it's nice and they're living happy lives. That's great. But doesn't mean who didn't get married will have to be unhappy.

RomanceSome Things That Women Don't Understand About Men by teegrams(op): 8:52am On Jul 14, 2022
Men are under a constant, huge, aggressive competition, trapped inside a social Darwinist game on such a scale that few women would understand.

The world that we inhabit is meaner, uglier, more aggressive, and more indifferent to you. It is all about status, power, competition, dominance. That’s the world men live in. We didn’t choose it. Most of us don’t like it at all. Only a very small slew of say, 1% of us, thrive on it. Most of us just endure it the best we can. A lot of us can’t bear it, hence why a very large number of men live lonely, depressed lives, and fall into depression and suicide in far larger numbers than women.

Women complain that they are not allowed to compete in many of the big leagues, even in our supposedly progressive modern world. And that’s a fair complaint. What a lot of them don’t understand is that men are forced to compete on said leagues by default and don’t have the option to opt out, nor do they get to choose anything about it. That’s simply not acceptable and not a possibility for men. Nobody expects it from you, and nobody will allow you to do so.

Sexism has the unintended consequence of making expectations for men greater (since sexist men will treat women like helpless, inept children) and the social punishment for failing to meet them is harsher. A fat man is an ugly man, not a herald of a new form of beauty. A stay at home dad is a parasite, not a caretaker. An unprofessional man with a good social life is not a “charming partner”, but a loser. And so on.

Our default state is a constant state of warfare so to speak, and you don’t get to take a break from it. The sexist commentaries that women routinely get are just part of this toxic game of “neutering the competence”. Believe it or not, we do also get our fair dose of toxic masculinity, just in a different form. Men don’t get comments on our asses or boobs, we just get direct insults, demeaning commentary, and a far more direct, even physical aggression, mostly coming from the very same type of imbeciles that will tell you to “smile more, honey”. They don’t have to pretend to have a “nice” façade with us, the gloves are always off. Always.

A romantic relationship with a woman offers us, men, something way more valuable than romance per se: It offers us a respite from all of that. It offers us a glimpse into a kinder, gentler, different world, where most of us would love to live in if given the chance. Or at least, we are given the possibility to retreat to it whenever we falter. Or at least, the possibility to be ourselves; kinder, gentler, tender and vulnerable.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited has stated the fuel queues in Abuja and Lagos will vanish in 3 days, stating that were issues around supply disruptions which have now been resolved.

This was disclosed by Mele Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer, NNPC Ltd in an interview with Arise News on Sunday.

The oil boss also disclosed that NNPC is fully aware that there are issues with pricing and expects prices to normalize for the Nigerian consumer.

What the NNPC boss is saying
Kyari said, “First of all, there are issues around supply disruptions, this we are overcoming it, we have resolved them, and in the next 3 to 4 days, people will see relief and it ( fuel queues) will vanish.

“As we all know, there are no fuel queues in most parts of the country except Lagos and Abuja and we understand the real logistics issues and I am confident within the next 2-3 days this will vanish.

On PMS pricing, Kyari added, “there is no question around it (PMS price); the President has authorized his discretion, and the right decision to increase the cost of transporting fuel by N10, that means transporters will be able to take product from any depots to the furthest fuel station without any delay.”

“We also acknowledge that there are some facing logistic challenges, particularly in the marine sector we are resolving those, and convinced that prices will normalize very soon”, he added.

What you should know
It was reported last week that Oil marketers under the aegis of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) have attributed the lingering fuel scarcity in Lagos and its environs to the inability of the Pipelines and Product Marketing Company (PPMC) to supply products to the Ejigbo depot.

IPMAN pointed out that they are hoping that the marketers can buy fuel from PPMC, which is a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited so they can also sell at N165 per litre at retail outlets.

They said, “We are still waiting for the PPMC to supply products to our depot so that we can buy at the controlled price and can also sell at N165 per litre at our retail outlets.’’

TravelAir Peace Expands Flight Operations To China, India by teegrams(op): 8:28am On Jul 06, 2022
Nigeria’s leading airline, Air Peace, has revealed plans to extend flight operations to Guangzhou, China and Mumbai, India, with scheduled flight operations to this month.

The Spokesperson of Air Peace, Mr. Stanley Olisa, made the disclosure in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos.

Olisa said that Israel flight operations was also underway.

He said these new destinations were further testimony to the airline’s determination to connect Nigerians seamlessly to other parts of the world and deepen socio-economic ties between Nigeria and both countries.

Olisa said that the airline would be launching its initial one weekly flight to China on July 13, 2022, and two weekly flights to India later this month.

He added that the company would increase the frequencies when operations garner momentum.

Olisa said that Air Peace’s entry into both countries would strengthen bilateral ties between Nigeria and both countries

“Guangzhou and Mumbai are not new terrains for Air Peace as we have operated a number of special/evacuation flights into both cities in the past.

“So, we are very familiar with the airspace and plans to launch Tel Aviv, Israel, are in top gear. This is also not a new space for us as you know, we have operated flights to and from the country.

“Air Peace is unflinchingly committed to reducing the air travel burden of Africans, and we will continue to grow our route network as well as modernise our fleet strategically.

“Air Peace has accomplished so much in just seven years of operation, as we now have a network of 20 domestic routes.

“Others are seven regional routes and two international destinations, including Dubai and Johannesburg, which we launched in 2019 and 2020 respectively,” he said.

Olisa reiterated its resolve to continue providing peaceful and strategic network connections, in line with its no-city-left-behind mantra, which the airline was aggressively implementing.

The official hinted that the airline also had in the works two other African destinations – Malabo in Equatorial Guinea and Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that in March 2022, Air Peace launched its Niamey route, and a few months before then, it flagged off Douala operations from Lagos and PH.

The airline parades an optimal, mixed, modern fleet of over 30 aircrafts, including five brand new Embraer 195-E2s, and has the largest fleet in West and Central Africa.

SportsFive Clubs That Could Sign Cristiano Ronaldo This Summer by teegrams(op):
There were buzz in the media space Yesterday that Cristiano Ronaldo told Manchester United that he wants to leave the club this summer.

The 37-year-old's desire to continue playing Champions League football is thought to be the driving force behind his decision to inform the Red Devils that he is keen to seek pastures new.

Man United have allegedly reiterated that the Portugal international will not be leaving, with the attacker still having another 12 months left to run on his contract at the club.

However, the 20-time English champions could find it difficult to resist his exit in the coming weeks, and with that in mind, Baboyo have identified five potential destinations for Ronaldo, who scored 24 goals and registered three assists in 37 outings for the Red Devils last term.

Below are list of Clubs that might go for Cristiano Ronaldo

1.Bayern Munich
At this stage, there is allegedly not a serious interest from Bayern, but the German champions would surely be open to signing Ronaldo if Robert Lewandowski were to leave for Barcelona.

Bayern would be able to offer the Portuguese the chance to challenge for major trophies, and having enjoyed success in England, Italy and Spain, the chance to play in Germany before the end of his career could appeal.

Ronaldo's arrival could make the Bundesliga champions serious contenders for the Champions League next season, and they would also fancy their chances of winning another league title with the goalscoring machine at the tip of their attack, even with Lewandowski pushing to leave Allianz Arena.

2.Paris Saint-Germain
A switch to Paris Saint-Germain would only be a genuine possibility if Neymar were to leave this summer, and it is believed that the French champions are open to an exit for the Brazilian.

The chance to play alongside Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe would surely appeal to Ronaldo, and the capital outfit would be among the favourites for the Champions League next term if he were to arrive.

PSG have committed a huge salary to Mbappe, though, and the deal would have to make financial sense for the French champions.

Like Bayern, the Blues would also be able to offer Ronaldo the chance to boost his trophy cabinet before the end of his career and continue playing at the top level of European football.

3. Chelsea
Chelsea will be in the market for a new centre-forward this summer, with Romelu Lukaku on the verge of re-joining Inter Milan on loan for the 2022-23 campaign.

Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes is believed to have recently met with Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly, which led to a host of speculation surrounding a possible move to Stamford Bridge.

Man United would surely resist a sale to the Blues, but they have the financial power to pay Ronaldo what he would want to move to the capital outfit, and they also have Champions League football for next term.

4. Real Madrid
It would be some story if Real Madrid re-signed Ronaldo, five years after he left the club.

The Portugal international scored 450 goals in 438 appearances for Los Blancos during a hugely successful spell, winning two La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey trophies and four Champions Leagues.

Carlo Ancelotti's side won a La Liga and Champions League double last term, and having made two strong signings this summer in the shape of Antonio Rudiger and Aurelien Tchouameni, they will surely be up there once again next season in terms of the major trophies.

Karim Benzema enjoyed a stunning 2021-22 campaign, but Los Blancos are short of options at centre-forward, and a return for Ronaldo to the Spanish capital is certainly not impossible to imagine.

5. Sporting Lisbon
Sporting Lisbon are believed to have been in touch with Ronaldo's camp recently to register an interest in bringing the attacker back to the club this summer.

Ronaldo joined Sporting back in 1997, spending five years in their youth system before making his first-team debut for the Portuguese giants in 2002.

He went on to make 31 appearances for the club, scoring five times and registering six assists, before securing a move to Man United in 2003.

The Green and Whites will be in the Champions League next season, having finished second in Portugal's top flight last term, but it would be a surprise to see him return to the Lions at this stage due to his substantial wage demands and desire to continue playing at the highest level possible.

PoliticsOver 40 Bakeries Shutdown In FCT Over Cost Of Production by teegrams(op): 8:39am On Jul 02, 2022
No fewer than 40 bakeries have closed shop in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), over cost of production, multiple taxation and hike in electricity tariff, among others.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some of the bakeries visited were not opened for business due to operational cost and multiple taxation by some government agencies.

NAN reports that some of the bakeries that have closed shop are Abumme bakery Ltd. Lugbe, Airports road, Hamdala Bakery, Kuje, Harmony Bite Bakery, Karu, Doweey Delight Bakery Ltd, Kubwa.

Others include Merit Baker, Mpape, Funez Baker, Orozo, Slyz Bakery, Wuse Zone 2, among others.

Mr Ishaq Abdulraheem, the Chairman, Abuja Master Bakers, FCT said that it was becoming increasingly disturbing that bakeries in Abuja could no longer cope with the high cost of production.

He said that most members had lost their means of livelihood, while workers had been out of job due to the shutdown.

He called on the Federal Government to quickly intervene and check agencies of government frustrating bakery business.

He identified some of the agencies to include National Food Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON), National Environmental Standards and Regulations, Enforcement Agency (NESREA).

He said that the six Area Councils in FCT had also made business very unpleasant and difficult for bakery with huge taxes and tenement rates.

An Abuja baker, Mr Nuhu Musa of Hamdala Bakery, Kuje, FCT appealed to government to regulate the activities of these agencies so reduce the different taxes they imposed on bakers.

Musa said many bakeries were struggling to survive due to high cost of production.

“We want government to regulate these agencies so that our production process will be easy.

“These taxations are negatively impacting our business to the extent that many of us have closed down.

“This is also affecting employment as many bakery workers are out of work presently and you know the effect of that on the society; some will turn to criminality,’’ he said.

Musa said, for instance, NAFDAC will come to their bakeries to check for certificates, while SON will come for the registration of the product.

“How much are we making to warrant all these checking and payments,’’ he said.

Some of the Abuja residents who spoke with NAN decried the high cost of bread in the market, stressing that bread was gradually becoming the food for the rich.

Mr Julius Anthony, a resident said that some of the bread he usually bought for N500 per loaf now cost as much as N1,000.

Miss Aisha Danjuma, another resident of FCT called on the government to immediately intervene over the high cost of bread, adding that “bread is the food for the masses and must not be taken away from them.’’

"TikTok is not just another video app. That's the sheep's clothing. It harvests swaths of sensitive data that new reports show are being accessed in Beijing," Carr tweeted.

The already-popular TikTok saw an uptick in users during the pandemic and now boasts over 1 billion MAUs (monthly active users). This is despite long-held privacy and national-security concerns over China-based ByteDance accessing sensitive information about those who use the short-form video platform.

The new reports that Carr mentions comes from BuzzFeed News. The publication writes that leaked audio from more than 80 internal ByteDance meetings confirmed that engineers had repeatedly accessed nonpublic data about US TikTok users between September 2021 and January 2022. The report was published a few hours after TikTok said it had migrated 100% of US user traffic to a new Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

Carr included in his tweet a copy of the letter he sent to Apple boss Tim Cook and Google CEO Sundar Pichai asking for TikTok to be removed from the companies' respective app stores. He states that the app "poses an unacceptable national security risk due to its extensive data harvesting combined with Beijing's apparently unchecked access to that sensitive data."

"TikTok is not what it appears to be on the surface," Carr wrote. "It's not just an app for sharing funny videos or memes. That's the sheep's clothing. At its core, TikTok functions as a sophisticated surveillance tool that harvests extensive amounts of personal and sensitive data."

The Trump administration fought a long-running battle with TikTok, including a threat to ban the app if a US buyer did not purchase it. Microsoft and Oracle seemed interested but neither company made a move. The deadline to buy eventually passed without the government implementing a ban.
