Politics › Re: Announce Rivers Results Now Or Else - PDP Reacts As INEC Suspends Rivers Electio by teejona(m): 8:44pm On Mar 10, 2019 |
247naijamedia: The PDP charges the INEC to end its manipulative schemes and immediately declare the result of the March 9, 2019 Rivers state governorship election.
The PDP rejects the decision by @inecnigeria to suspend the electoral process in the state, after results have been collated.
The @OfficialPDPNig alerts that this is a premeditated plan by the APC-led Federal Government to use the instrument of @inecnigeria and security agencies to truncate the wishes of the Rivers people as already delivered at the polling units.
Our party contends that elections have been concluded in Rivers state; results of the Governorship &HoA polls have been declared at the various polling units, wards and LGA collation centers & all returning officers & political parties in the ballot conclusively have the figures.
It is therefore incumbent on @inecnigeria to declare the final results instead of deliberately creating openings for the subversion of the process; a development, which exposes the Commission’s complicity with @MBuhari & the APC to enmesh the election into unnecessary crisis.
Our party cautions @inecnigeria to note that a lot of innocent Nigerians have already been killed by @OfficialAPCNg in its desperation to forcefully take over Rivers state. The commission should therefore save the state from more bloodletting by immediately declaring the results
Furthermore, the @OfficialPDPNig calls on President @MBuhari to reflect on the bloodlettings that have characterized this election, which many Nigerians believe, would have been averted if he had signed the Amendment to the Electoral Act.
@MBuhari should immediately call the security agencies (who have been annexed as departments of the @OfficialAPCNg) to end their siege to our electoral process. Any further delay is a recipe for escalation of crisis in our nation. PDP dey mad really, even when APC is not in the ballot? |

fergie001: There is uneasy calm in Niger State following directive by the state governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, to commissioners, asking them to immediately refund monies that were advanced to them to mobilise voters for last Saturday’s botched elections.
It was gathered that all commissioners and permanent secretaries were given an undisclosed amount of money ahead of last Saturday’s botched elections to enable them mobilise voters before it was postponed.
Although the commissioners and the permanent secretaries were said to have actually travelled to their respective constituencies for the election, and had expended the money for the purpose it was allocated, they were asked to go and retrieve the money since the election could not take place.
A source close to some of the commissioners told Daily Sun in Minna, yesterday, that they got a message from the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, on Monday, requesting them to return the money.
“We got message, yesterday, that we should return the money that was given to us to mobilise voters for the elections, and we told them we had already given out the money before we heard about the postponement.
“But, they said we should go and retrieve the money from the people. Nobody will be ready to refund such money, in fact, nobody will listen to you. This Saturday, the same voters will be expecting another money from us. They’ve even told us that the money had been spent,” the source said.
Daily Sun gathered that the commissioners were seen making frantic efforts and making contact with each other, yesterday, on the way forward since they claimed to have utilised the funds.
When contacted on this latest development, the Media and Publicly Coordinator to the Governor, Mr. Jide Orintunsin, said it is a usual norm all over the world for political appointees to be mobilised ahead of elections, to go to their various constituencies to ensure victory for their party.
Orintunsin insisted there was nothing new about asking political appointees to go and woo the electorates to ensure victory for the party, stressing that “what I don’t know is asking them to refund the money given to them if there was any.
“In the first place, I’m not aware of any money that was given to political appointees to go and woo the people, not to talk of refund. But, remember they are expected to go back on Saturday to mobilise their people to ensure victory for the party.”

ishiamu: Rep. Chris Smith, immediate past chairman of the United States House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, has spoken on the postponement of Nigeria elections.
His reaction was contained in a statement he signed on Monday.
The statement posted on his website reads: “Responsibility for the delay of Nigeria’s presidential election lays squarely with President Muhammadu Buhari and those close to him.
“Actions in advance of the election — including removal of Supreme Court Chief Justice Walter Onnoghen and arson attacks on Independent National Electoral Commission offices in opposition strongholds — are undermining confidence that this election and subsequent gubernatorial elections will be free and fair.
“At a minimum, the presidential election must meet the 2015 standard, which saw a peaceful transfer of power and a statement by the then-sitting president that all bloodshed must be avoided.”
Rep. Smith also called upon the Trump Administration and the State Department to focus greater attention upon Nigeria.
In addition to being sub-Saharan Africa’s most populous nation, Nigeria is its biggest economy, and what happens in Nigeria has ramifications beyond its borders,” Smith said.
“Given the magnitude of global problems Secretary Pompeo must contend with, he should consider appointing a Special Envoy for Nigeria vested with full authority.
“The State Department must use all tools at its disposal, including visa denial and sanctioning authority, to hold accountable those who undermine democracy and foment sectarian and ethnic violence.”
Earlier, Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.), expressed her concern after Presidential and National Assembly elections in Nigeria were postponed to February 23rd.
A statement she signed reads: “This delay impacts Nigeria’s 84 million registered voters who traveled from cities across Nigeria, as well as North America, Europe and Asia, for the sole purpose of making their voices heard at the ballot box.
“My hope is that this delay does not impact voter turnout or harm the credibility and legitimacy of the election, as the postponement could impact local, regional, and international observation missions.
“Nigeria’s electoral institutions played a critical role in ensuring that the 2015 elections were carried out in a transparent, fair, and peaceful manner. I hope to see that tradition continue during this 2019 election cycle.
“Nigeria can serve as an example for the region as a whole and I hope that this postponement does not negatively impact that potential.”

akinblog: Polls Postponement: The PDP after due consideration of the provision of the Electoral Act, is set to reopen its open campaigns consequent upon the postponement of Presidential and Senate elections by INEC from the earlier scheduled date of Feb. 23, 2019.
The PDP rejects the wrongful administrative prohibition of open campaigns by INEC, holding that such administrative pronouncement was erroneous, directly in conflict with the provision of the Electoral Act and is not backed by any other law in our country.
Our position is predicated on the clear provision of section 99 (1) of the Electoral Act which stipulated that “for the purposes of this Act, the period of campaigning in public by every political party shall commence 90 days before polling day and end 24 hours prior to that day”
The clear import of this provision, in the current situation, is that given the postponement of the election to February 23, 2019, the 24 hours requirement for closure of all public campaigning falls at midnight of February 21, 2019.
The PDP reminds INEC that whenever its administrative pronouncement conflicts with the Electoral Act, such administrative pronouncement must bow before the law. The party charges INEC to be appropriately guided while directing its members to await further directives.

Politics › Re: Buhari's Nationwide Broadcast, A Farewell Speech - Atiku by teejona(m): 12:18am On Feb 15, 2019 |
fergie001: The Presidential Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has described President Muhammadu Buhari’s Thursday night broadcast as a farewell speech.
Reacting to President Buhari’s characterization of the opposition in a nationwide broadcast, Atiku Abubakar described the president as a failed steward who has consistently distorted and twisted facts and events.
Atiku, in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Publication, Mr. Phrank Shaibu said, “We see President Muhammadu Buhari’s attack on the opposition in his nationwide broadcast, Thursday night, as part of the many gaffes which have come to define last days of the Buhari Presidency, rather than an address to be taken seriously by Nigerians.”
Atiku said President Buhari ought to have shown deep introspection in his public comments “because he is not just presiding over any country, but one with the largest black nation on earth, which bestows a lot of responsibility on him.”
According to Atiku, “If the President is not telling Nigerians that he was sworn in as president in 2005, he is mistaking Ondo Central Senatorial District for Edo Central Senatorial District or surrendering his ticket to Mr. Great Ogboru whom he mistakenly referred to as the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) while on campaign tour of the state.
“These gaffes and the latest negative comments against opposition elements in his nationwide broadcast are not the attributes of a leader who should be re-elected for another term of office,” Shaibu quoted Atiku as saying.
Atiku also said that, “Even when he is voted out of office come Saturday, February 16, 2019, President Muhammadu Buhari must learn to rise above certain issues and do things that will enhance the respect the citizenry have for the office of the President, rather than rushing to exhibit soap-box mentality when the occasion does not call for it.”
”As for which party will better serve the people, we leave that judgment to Nigerians who will decide on 16th February, instead of a highly-partisan and easily excitable President Buhari,” Atiku said.
While dismissing President Buhari’s nationwide broadcast as a farewell speech, the former Vice President said “the Nigerian public is already giving its reaction on General Buhari’s less than Presidential address to the nation this evening.”
“A review of comments on Buhari’s Facebook Page to the broadcast shows that he should call in the removals-van as people can’t wait for him to leave Aso Rock. When you compare these to the comments on HE Atiku’s page to his Facebook Live broadcast this morning, the contrast could not be greater. The final verdict is in the hands and fingers of the millions of voters this Saturday.
“As our candidate HE Atiku said in his final message of the campaign ‘Even if you are not voting for me, still come out to vote on Saturday. It is about Nigeria, not Atiku Abubakar. It is about you and your future.’”
“So, we appeal to every eligible voter to express their will and contribute to our democracy,” the statement concluded.
https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/02/buharis-nationwide-broadcast-a-farewell-speech-atiku/ This man is so desperate that he cannot even reason well, even if Buhari should lose the election he is the president till May 29. So what nonsense farewell message is he talking about? |

Justice Olabisi Akinlade discharged and acquitted Arogundade’s five co-defendants Mustapha Layeni, Adebayo Abdullahi, Seyi Pabiekun, Sikiru Rufai and Yusuf Arogundade of a two-count charge of conspiracy to commit murder.
In a three-hour judgment which started at 2.35p.m., the judge held that the prosecution was able to prove beyond reasonable doubt that Arogundade murdered the policeman. Before delivering the judgment, for security reasons and to avoid disruption of proceedings, the judge ordered that the courtroom should be locked and the keys kept in her possession.
On hearing the sentence, Arogundade collapsed in the dock while his relatives wailed in the courtroom gallery. According to the prosecution led by Mrs C. Rotimi-Odutola, the convict committed the offences on April 10, 2010, at Gbara Junction, Aiyetoro, Ajegunle, Lagos.
According to her, Oladipupo was murdered because he purportedly encouraged the use of commercial tricycles in Aiyetoro, causing loss of income for the NURTW unit. The offences contravene Sections 234 and 316 of the Penal Code Law, 2003.

Magichand: US Congress asks Google CEO to explain why the photo of Donald Trump comes up when you type “idiot”
When you type in "Idiot" in Google search, photos of US president Donald Trump comes up and Republicans in the US Congress grilled Google CEO Sundar Pichai about this.
Republicans allege that Google's search results are biased and that Democrats who work at Google choose liberal websites over conservative views for prime placement on Google services like Google search.
Several Republicans on the committee, including Rep. Lamar Smith, said there was "political bias baked into" Google's culture. Democratic Rep. Zoe Lofgren gave Google CEO a chance to explain and convince them that there's no conservative bias in Google.
Lofgren said to Pichai: Manipulation of search results - I think it's important to talk about how search works. Right now, if you Google the word 'idiot,' under images, a picture of Donald Trump comes up. I just did that.
How would that happen? How does search work so that that would occur?
Pichai replied: We provide search today for - anytime you type in a keyword, we as Google, we have gone out and crawled and stored copies of billions of webpages in our index. We take the keyword and match it against webpages and rank them based on over 200 signals, things like relevance, freshness, popularity, how other people are using it.
And based on that, at any given time, we try to rank and find the best results for that query. Then we evaluate them with external raters to make sure, and they evaluate it to objective guidelines, and that's how we make sure the process is working.
Lofgren added:
So it's not some little man sitting behind the curtain figuring out what we're going to show the user - it's basically a compilation of what users are generating, and trying to sort through that information.
And Pichai replied:
Last year we served over 3 trillion searches. Just as a fact, every single day, 15% of the searches Google sees, we have never seen them before. So this is working at scale. We don't manually intervene on any particular search result.
See more: https://zenithnaija.com/us-congress-asks-google-to-explain-why-trumps-photo-shows-when-you-type-idiot/ This is a sane country where the citizens realise that regardless who occupy the number one seat he is a national symbol and shouldn't be ridiculed for any reason.
