Blackbuddy:

Hi, you can check here for some naija places, https://www.nairaland.com/3617393/living-canada-life-canadian-immigrant/132#61910441

For a private caterer, I know one I can recommend for you in Mississauga. Just send me a PM to get her contact details for privacy of the caterer.

Thank you so much.
This is very helpful. I tried sending you a message but nairaland only lets me send an initiating contact email for you to respond to. I do hope you got it.
Just in case you didn’t, if it’s not too much trouble, you could send her details to me at: akint30@gmail.com
Really appreciate your help.

Regards.

I haven’t landed yet o..
Used them on another trip. The reviews that had given me pause were mostly about their hub in Addis.
Now I’ve had the Addis experience, it’s not as bad as they led me to believe.
Definitely flying them for our soft landing in December.

yimiton:
Yey!!! Welcome to Canada and thanks for coming back with feedback on Ethiopian Airline.

Yes, I've bought our Ethiopian airline ticket at an unbelievably cheap price and I'm glad you had a positive experience. Hopefully, we will have a sweet experience too.

Did you pass through Toronto? (YYZ) if yes, how long did it take you to complete your immigration process?

We're a family of 4. How long would you say we should plan to spend at the airport from Landing and taking a vehicle to our destination?

Travel / Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by teeoba: 6:04am On Oct 28, 2017
Hi Yimiton,
Hope you are well and thriving. Have you purchased your ticket now?
Quick feedback on Ethiopian from an unrelated trip: The Addis Airport is quite busy/rowdy with lots of people in the terminal but very functional.
My flights left on time and no issues with luggage.
Having experienced it myself..+ their affordable fares: it’s a great option

yimiton:
Really!? All the reviews I read here were pretty positive, although, I didn't check TripAdvisor. Could it be that they've improved their services or people just have much higher expectations than Nigerians? Were they specific about the result of the disorganisation? Maybe lost luggage etc?

I'll be with my 2 little tots too (first will be 3 years and 11 months while the other will be 1 year and 6 months). Good thing is my husband will be there to ensure things are in order and we'll be landing for good.

I'll find out more about them before we finalise. I don't want my precious luggage lost in any confusion.

Kai! Now, I'm feeling left behind. I'm leaving in January, it seems so far now that I've got my approval! lol.

What province are you going?

Ethiopian Air has some very good rates and there's been some positive reviews about them. I'll most likely try them, you should do the same.

Left behind ke? We are only doing short landing in December.. Still unsure when we'll be leaving for good.

Ethiopian rates look good but read some Trip adviser reviews about their very disorganized Addis airport Where there's a moderate layover. (No energy for wahala with two kids in tow)

Hoping to snag a good deal on Turkish or even BA....( fingers crossed)

Destination: Ontario province for now.

Hi Vcole,
I was under the impression its only the bank account and investments accounts contributing to the POF that are required.
In any case, can one still provide these other statements to IRCC post AOR? And how does one go about it.
Thank you.

[quote author=vcole post=55267074]

On the issue of POF and bank letters and bank accounts. Please note that the IRCC states that a bank letter for ALL bank accounts of the principal applicant detailing the average balance over a period of 6 months and stating that there are no loans, etc etc is required. in Nigeria, since most banks do not issue letters in the IRCC format, a reference letter from your bank (s) in whatever format they routinely issues alongside a 6 months' bank statement has proven sufficient thus far. So, for all who have questions as regards what to submit if POF is in t bills, FD, etc etc etc. Please note the ALL above and be guided.....submit your other accounts ....ref letters and bank statements alongside other evidence of POF in FD or Tbills.

Hello house,
Is it okay if your proof of funds is in excess of the requirement for your family size?

Toy002:

Ok, I'll print out 4 copies. Thanks a lot. Please have you gotten any response from FBI?

It takes a while to get th ecertiifcate. 12-14 weeks is stated on their website. They don't notify you of receipt of your application.
But the timeline for mine is:
December 29, 2016 : Had the fingerprints card delivered to FBI by Fedex

February 3: Credit card charged for $18

February 14: FBI says certificate sent (called their customer service line)
Still awaiting delivery in Nigeria.

FBI sends via US Postal service and you can't track the mail. If you can, just have the certificate sent to a US address. Within the US delivery is within a week. Wish I had done that.

Hope this helps.

Good evening house.
Please your urgent advice is needed.
I received ITA in January with a score of 459.
The issue is my work experience. I had a full time contract consultant job that is calculated based on daily rate. If one calculates the number of days in the contract it will be equivalent to about 24 hours per week though in actuality i was working on average 32 hours (i.e 4 days a week). My question now is: letter of employment states the number of days so how do I explain that i worked 32hrs instead of 24hours equivalent in the contract. I filled in 32hrs in my EE profile based on the number of days i was going to work.

Should i just decline this ITA and update my profile to reflect 24hrs so that there is no need for long explanations in the LOE. My fear is that they may consider it misrepresentation if I just make the change in my current post ITA profile.

Secondly, I only evaluated my Masters degree and my work experience since then is less than 3years even though based on my NOC, my BSc degree qualified me to work in that NOC. Does it matter that the experience post-the degree I evaluated is less than 3years?

Please comments and advice are urgently required.
Thanks a lot.

Thanks so much for your response. Really appreciate it.
I will reach out to my manager.

boldinc:
Hi... Congrats on your ITA.

1. If you can get your Supervisor to write the letter on your behalf, that would be great. All you have to do, like my wife did, is to write the letter yourself, print it out on the letter headed paper and have him sign it. If that's too much of a problem or you don't have access to letter headed papers, have your HR dept write the letter and leave a space for your supervisor to sign. I have a sample I found online... could share with the house if necessary.

2. The mutual funds company can write a letter for you... That should suffice. Let them also explain the money can be liquidated at anytime of your choice. Dunno much about FirstBank, but your bank statement should be fine in addition to the mutual funds letter. If you can get them to also write the letter, you can add it.

Hope this helps... All the best!

Hello All,
stumbled onto this page and it has been extremely helpful. I have just gotten ITA and i had a few clarifications which I hope the house can help with:

1. For the work reference
- is it okay if it is HR department that provides the reference letter and signs it?
- or can I get one from HR plus a letter from my supervisor . The issue is that the supervisor does not have emolument details and can not use company letter-head paper.

2. For Proof of funds
- do i have to liquidate my mutual fund investment and put it in my account or can the mutual fund company write a letter for me?
- Has anyone done this with stanbic assest management and what was the process?
- Has anyone been able to get a letter from First Bank fitting CIC's requirements, and if so what was the process?

Thank you and God bless you all for the great work on this thread.

Thank you Adiahabasi. Really appreciate your help on this.

Adiahabasi:

1. You,since you are younger wt a higher degree.
2. 'yes, i.e 2 applications with u as principal applicant in 1, and he in the 2nd.This helps in cases where only one of your occupations is on the list of a province (priority professions) that you wish to apply to
for nomination. E.g if sasks opens for PN and only your husband's profession is on their list. Even though your CRS score is higher, u wont be qualified to apply. It's in such cases the 2nd profile comes in handy.
3.Your masters should do but is your post Msc work experience in medicine or in your Msc field?
4.Ace IELTS,aim for 8.5,8,7.5,7.5 in LRSW.
Hope this helps.

Thanks so much. Very helpful.

Gymme:
Since your Masters and MBBS degrees are not from Canada, you will have to evaluate either of the two. I said either because both Masters level and Professional degree (MBBS) will give the same point. Evaluating MBBS will require you going through Medical Council of Canada and that takes way longer than evaluating Masters.

Both of you can't apply separately because during your application, you will state your marital status (and you wouldn't wanna lie, my sister). So to me, all things being equal, you that is 32 have a upper hand to be the principal applicant. Both of you could evaluate your degrees so as to get more points and write the English test.

Just a note to add that we are yet to do the IELTS though we've registered for it.

Thanks.

Hello House,
Thanks for all the great work you are doing on this thread.
I want to begin the PR process with my husband and wanted to clarify a few things that were not very explicit to me as i read the thread.
I am a doctor with a Masters degree from a US institution. Currently practice with my Masters degree. and have about 8 years post-first degree and 3 years post Masters experience.
My hubby has a BSc degree with about 10yrs experience but has other IT certifications. He's 38 and im 32.
My questions are:
1. who is better placed to be the primary applicant?
2.can we both apply individually (i.e submit 2 applications) to improve our chances of selection?
3. Do I need to evaluate my MBBS degree or only the Masters will suffice?
4. In general what is the best approach to getting a higher score and the ITA?

Many thanks in advance for your responses.

Dear VO,
How long does the Dropbox renewal for a B1/B2 visa take? My passport has been with the Abuja Office for nearly one month now. I havent heard from them or gotten a request for more information and DHL says it is still at the Embassy. What could be happening? Can I call the Embassy to inquire?
Thank you.
