Canada uses official rate.

As long as the amount you have in foreign currency meets the minimum CAD required then you are good to go.

Exchanging foreign currency such as USD to Naira could actually increase your available POF. For example, if you have USD1,000, that would give you about CAD1,300 assuming an exchange rate of CAD1.3/USD1. However, if you exchanged USD1,000 to Naira using black market rate, you would get about N600,000. Since Canada uses official exchange rate, this gives you CAD1,818 i.e. N600,000 divided by 330 (assumimg N330/CAD1 is the official rate). CAD1,818 is clearly more than CAD1,300.

The downside is that you would likely lose when converting Naira back to a stronger foreign currency. But for the purpose of POF, it will give you more available funds.

I will advise you only use this option if you don't have enough proof of funds from your available foreign currency.

upkay:
Hi Mates,

A quick question pls.,

Which rate does Canada use to calculate the POF for applicants from Nigeria? Is it an official or black market rate?

Secondly, a friend has his POF in foreign currency, do you advise him to retain it in that currency or he shld exchange it to naira?

Thanks for your inputs.

Hi all,

I just want to be sure that the Nigeria International Travel Portal is only to be used by inbound passengers. Can anyone please confirm this?

Thank you.

Hello good people,

Please are there any Nigerian forms that need to be completed before arriving at the airport for outland travel to Canada?

Can't really say how true that is but the person liaising with FRSC on my behalf did mention that they may or may not include a Canadian address. Will let you know if it flies without an address.

Redkay:
Please can you walk me through how you are getting your driving extract? I called one guy at the FRSC office and he is telling me that I have to travel and get a house there first before I can get it.

Is this true?
TravelRe: Canadian Express Entry/Federal Skilled Worker Program - Connect Here Part 11 by Teeores(m): 5:41pm On Jun 20, 2022
Na real wa! Guess I'll just have to pay it cause I cannot stress abeg. Make I collect wetin I need conclude my japa undecided

ednut1:

TravelRe: Canadian Express Entry/Federal Skilled Worker Program - Connect Here Part 11 by Teeores(m): 5:38pm On Jun 20, 2022
Ok thanks for the info. I guess it is what it is.

overlord77:
It's not the normal or official fee but that's what they collect. My elder brother paid same when he requested for it in January 2022. I guess they have seen another avenue to make money. Typical black man things, lol
TravelRe: Canadian Express Entry/Federal Skilled Worker Program - Connect Here Part 11 by Teeores(m): 4:44pm On Jun 20, 2022
Well noted.

The "oga" at FRSC wants to charge me 30k for my driving record. Is this the typical fee? Cause I'm shocked!!!

ednut1:
yes it’s required. You get the letter from frsc,
TravelRe: Canadian Express Entry/Federal Skilled Worker Program - Connect Here Part 11 by Teeores(m): 3:22am On Jun 20, 2022
Thanks for your response ednut1. I'm moving to Ontario. Do you know if the extract is needed there and how to get it if so?

ednut1:
international drivers license is not for PR but long term visitors . Nigerian licence plus driving extract ( depending on province)
TravelRe: Canadian Express Entry/Federal Skilled Worker Program - Connect Here Part 11 by Teeores(m): 6:47pm On Jun 19, 2022
Please is the Nigeria Driver's Licence enough in Canada or should the international drivers license also be gotten?

Immortalregis:
Hello guys. This is a one-week observation post.
P. S. "Canadian" in this post means regional e.g Ontario, Alberta etc. I'm currently in Ontario but I imagine the process is similar for all other regions.
P. S. 2 These are my personal opinions.

Please, please and please, getting a Nigerian driver's license is just as important as your ECA or reference letters as it reduces the waiting period to get a Canadian driver's license. Even if you don't plan to drive immediately you land here, just have it at the back of your mind that you will get a Canadian driver's license as soon as you land. The license gives you a huge advantage. Commuting exclusively by bus or train is not for the faint-hearted, so getting a car is pretty much a necessity if you don't work from home or you work even 1km away from your home.
This is my testimony as a proud owner of a Leggedis-Benz 2022 model (full option) cool. Yesterday morning, I went to a place that was 40 minutes away from me by bus. I had to take 3 buses to get there. I followed Google Maps religiously, took the first 2 buses and landed at the final bus stop. As my village people would have it, the final bus was delayed by just under 15 minutes so I had to wait at that busstop. Temperature was a solid 11 degrees inside bright sun and mad winds!! Mehn, wetin my fingers see for those 15 mins, my mouth no fit talk am!!! Abi na the breeze own I wan talk?? If I didn't eat that morning, I swear, that breeze for carry me go. Only 1 thought kept playing in my head - "What if this was winter?"
I got home last night and started studying the official Ontario driver's handbook. It's free on the Ontario website in case you have less than 2 years driving experience and you want to start practicing for the written test BEFORE you land here. Them no dey tell person. grin grin

You may include details of your highest degree only. I did not include any information about my bachelors degree during my express entry expression of interest and PR application to avoid having to upload supporting documentation. I only included that of my Masters degree which I had an ECA for.

You however may need to include it in your personal history.

Nikyb:
Please help guys! I got confused at the point of creating my EE profile. I only did ECA for my Masters, as per info that highest degree should be evaluated. While filling in my educational history on EE now it got confusing. Do I need to fill in my first degree too and pick that ECA was not done or I should just fill in Masters that has ECA alone and leave out the rest. Please note I only have a student copy of my first degree transcript which was done for my masters year ago and not addressed to any ECA body. And I know we need to provide documents for everything claimed on EE profile. Kindly guide me pls. I am confused

Just your highest qualification is required for WES evaluation.

gaeul:
Good Day House, please with regards to WES, should I send just my MSc or it must be BSc and MSc. I heard just the highest qualification is needed; I need to be sure pls

No be only one road enter market! From PNP to FSW back to PNP. Kudos to your sister that stayed on your case....a big gift for her please, when you land!

ENOUGH lessons from your story: we only need highest qualification, we don't need paper copies of PCC etc, scan would have been ok, good you sent your Nomination Certificate, you would probably have got an ADR for it. Your MPNP rural area error, OINP with business account....na you biko! Thanks for sharing.

GREEN: whatever anyone does they should just enter that pool. The CEC guy with CRS of 75 never saw his ITA coming in Feb 2021!
TravelRe: Canadian Express Entry/Federal Skilled Worker Program - Connect Here Part 11 by Teeores(m): 5:01am On Mar 25, 2022
Nope. I did include an LOE confirming that it was an oversight as I thought being the sole signatory to the account meant my corporate account would be considered unencumbered.

I continued by saying that I had removed it and attached my updated personal bank statement showing the required funds.

Nikyb:
Thank you for your response? Were you required to explain the origin/ purpose of the lump sum credit in your personal account?
TravelRe: Canadian Express Entry/Federal Skilled Worker Program - Connect Here Part 11 by Teeores(m): 10:16pm On Mar 24, 2022
Yes, that's exactly what I did and I'm sure they knew that was what I'd do. Because I had the funds just that they couldn't accept the business account in line with their policies.

Nikyb:
Congratulations! How did you resolve the issue of your POF in corporate account? Did you move fund to your personal account? I am in a similar boat please enlighten me.

TravelRe: Canadian Express Entry/Federal Skilled Worker Program - Connect Here Part 11 by Teeores(m):
Hello Nairalanders/Amazing People,

This is my first post here and it's coming a day after receiving my PPR. I promised to share my experience on this much sought after journey once I received my PPR so here it is. I'll try to keep it as brief as possible.

My decision to travel started late 2017 after my sister had moved to Canada in 2016. She argued I consider taking similar steps given the many benefits we all know Canada has to offer. Not to say I was doing badly in Nigeria at the time but for sure I understood the benefits and I was thinking long term. She is based in Manitoba and hence advised I went through the Manitoba Nomination (MPNP) route which I did. I wrote my first IELTS exam early 2018, put together the needed POF, obtained work reference letters, and did all other necessities. Fortunately evaluation of credentials wasn't required by Manitoba. I only included my B.Sc. and M.Sc. transcripts. I was hopeful but then I realised a mistake I made. My sister resides in the city of Winnipeg in Manitoba but in order to boost my score, I had chosen Brandon as my destination in Manitoba. I assumed the rule was only applicable to having a connection in Manitoba but I was wrong. Brandon is a rural area in the province and hence gave additional points for rural settlement which I wasn't entitled to because my sister did not reside in the area. My application was refused in December 2018 and mehn was I heartbroken. I know we learn from failures but it sure doesn't take away the pain that failure brings.

I remember trying the Express Entry route right after the refusal but then I realised I needed to evaluate my credentials. I definitely would have gotten my M.Sc. credentials from a UK university evaluated but getting my B.Sc. transcript sent by Olabisi Onabanjo University to WES was like thinking a grown lion would make for a good pet. I really hope that has changed now though.

After that experience, I zeroed my mind and thought maybe Canada wasn't for me. I still submitted an EOI to Manitoba but with the way the scores were soaring, I was no longer hopeful. So i continued life in Nigeria and in 2019, I got married.

Fast forward to February 2021, my sister called one late night to enquire further (she had done so many times before) on what I was doing regarding this Jaapa endeavour and I was like this madam should just leave me cause I didn't just see any hope there but I told her I would have a look at the whole process one more time. I mean, only something supernatural could have made that moment come to reality cause that was the crux of my success story. One moment that changed my destiny.

I always understood that I needed to evaluate both my M.Sc. and B.Sc credentials (I might have been wrong though) but after that call I read an article on WES website dated November 2020 that confirmed that only the highest credential was required for evaluation for Canada's PR application. My hope was rekindled. At this point, wify and I decided it best I go alone as including her as accompanying in our application negatively impacted our CRS due to some factors.

I gbe body, gingered, and quickly got my M.Sc. credentials evaluated successfully in March 2021. Registered for another IELTS exam and scored R 8.5, L 8.5, S 7.5 and W 7 in April 2021. With all other documents in place we joined the express entry pool on April 4th with a CRS of 466. At this point we knew FSW draws were not forthcoming but we were hopeful. Afterall, we weren't too far off from the last draw of 468.

2 months went by and nothing. Hope was beginning to dwindle again. But those that say "just join the pool" seem to know what they say. I had no idea of OINP at the time especially after my experience with MPNP. On the 23rd of June 2021, I received a message on my phone from IRCC. Could this be ITA I thought. Nope, it was a Notification of Interest from Ontario. I started my research and discovered it was a PNP just like that of Manitoba but without the need for a connection because I really don't have a strong connection to the province asides a friend. Another hustle began, this time was finding the POF which I got partly from a gift deed. Fortunately, I already had most documents so 2 weeks later, on the 13th of July, I submitted. Although our application was processed really fast, we received a letter of intent to refuse after 9 days. Reason: I had used a business account alongside my personal account as POF. I thought being the sole signatory to the business account meant it was not encumbered, WRONG! Fortunately I was able to correct it and on the 3rd of August we got the Nomination and the ITA on the 4th of August. Just wow! Such speed! I thought. Before December we should have gotten PPR, WRONG! Oga, what do you know about IRCC? Anyways, thus began our relationship with IRCC.

Not to bore you all, the permanent residence application should really have been straight forward coming from the provincial processing point of view but PCC happened. I realised that I needed to obtain my UK PCC as I had schooled there and lived there for over 6 months. Oh my goodness! That is another story on its own, a battle with NIPOST. Those guys are so unreliable. I eventually got the PCC via courier and on the 30th of August we sent in our application and got AOR.

Looking back, we had little interaction with IRCC over the 7 months after AOR. We submitted medical appointments with our application and did them on the 23rd of October. We passed the medical exam on the 17th of December and I gave my biometrics on the 21st of December. We received RPRF request on the 31st of January 2022 as we did not pay it alongside the application processing fee. This was paid the following day and I must say it was such a relief receiving it. 6 weeks went by before acknowledgement of ADR was received from IRCC for the RPRF payment, Imagine! A ghost update followed the following day on the 16th of March and another on the 22nd of March. At that point I was sure PPR was coming the following day thanks to so many experiences shared by others and truly on the 23rd of March 2022 by 6.58pm the "Ready for Visa" email landed on us. A sweet way to end a nerve-racking, stress-giving, emotional-wrecking, patience-testing journey. It ended in praise.

I however must mention that I sent 5 webforms in between. One for my birth certificate which I missed out and was meant to help them confirm sibling relationship (sent 23rd Oct). One for US visa refusal which I forgot to mention (sent 7th Nov). One for MPNP refusal which I did not mention cause the question on it was not clear at the time of submitting the application (sent 8th Nov). One for Nomination Certificate which I didn't send cause it wasn't part of my document checklist (sent 13th Jan 2022). To be sincere I never really thought I needed to send it but just did to avoid any potential delays. The final one was to confirm my visa office and status of my application and also to reconfirm the previous refusals (sent 23rd Feb 2022).

Thank you for reading this. I know it was long but I hope it will be useful for someone.

I wish everyone still hoping for Nomination, ITA or PPR the very best.
