PoliticsRe: The Economy Is Looking Green, After One Year — StatiSense by teepain: 11:57am On Dec 04, 2025
matify83:
Throwing raw statistics at us without characterization only gives a spurious picture of economic improvement.

You have hidden the fact that those good indices are propelled by the REBASEMENT done by the NBS this year.

For real figures, experts like Rewane and Uwaleke have adduced adding 10 to the figures you copiously referenced.

However, the monetary policy team headed by Cardoso is doing a yeoman's job at reining in headline inflation and setting the nation on the path to economic recovery and currency stability.

The fiscal side seems to be the clog in the wheel of progress as the continuous unrestrained borrowing spree of this government tend to erode the gains of the monetary policies.
A fair assessment. The man, Cardoso, deserves his flowers. He is doing a wonderful job.
PoliticsRe: Tinubu Targeting Atiku With Police Escort Withdrawal  —  Dele Momodu by teepain: 10:03pm On Dec 02, 2025
With this statement, Dele Momodu comes across as a very insensitive person. So, Atiku that has the financial wherewithal to hire the most sophisticated body guards money can afford should be assigned policemen at the detriment of the masses. This is one of the most asinine statements I have heard in a while.
PoliticsRe: Crude-for-loans: NNPCL Battles N8.07tn Outstanding Debt by teepain: 11:04am On Dec 02, 2025
iwaeda:
A government and organisation, immense in heavy debt, solution is to sell off, but not. Boda Bayo declared N4 trillion profit recently, but who is deceiving who. grin grin grin
It is possible to declare profit and have a terrible balance sheet. I believe that the declared profit is for the most recent financial year supervised by Ojulari. Now, the problem with the NNPC financials is the balance sheet items, especially the outstanding liabilities. So, Ojulari may not be deceiving anyone.

However, like you said selling the refineries as scrap makes a whole lot of sense as the turn around maintenance schemes provides an avenue for endless looting for people at the NNPC.

I would wish the military stopped reporting their little wins. They should rather go after the bandits and deal with them thoroughly.
When we are able to dwell in safety, we would know that they have succeeded . For now, it is all noise
I wanted to support your motion before. But then I had a rethink. War strategies include information dissemination too. Perhaps, if they don't share their little wins the world may not know that they are doing their bit.

Maybe I should just add that the military needs to be a little proactive, they should not wait until these terrorists attack before they neutralize them.

This looks like a PR laundering but then you brought Rape to the interview which literally means you are looking for pity.

Rape is a big thing and making it part of your public image as a professional is manipulative and a red flag
So you mean if she was raped she should bottle it up and not talk about it. Besides this was an interview and the interviewer asked to know why the interviewee went into public office. Obviously she had to talk about her rape experience since that was her driver for contesting for office.
PoliticsRe: DSS Invites Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed Over Alleged Inciteful Remarks by teepain: 1:53pm On Nov 29, 2025
mastermaestro:
Taking in political prisoners at this time will be Tinubu’s worst misstep. Make una nor dey offer suicidal political advice nau. Datti is not a nobody. Tinubu should just ignore him. The president must be very shrewd in times like this. Many are out to provoke him into taking actions that could rupture the system. He should know better.
While I agree with you that circumspection is required by a leader at all times it is equally important for a leader not to allow a free for all or a laissez-faire situation.

Part of the reasons why we are in this current mess is that previous leaders overlooked some stupid things and those things are now normalized so it is becoming more difficult to manage them. People should not hide under the toga of opposition to burn the country up. And it is the same advise I will give to anyone who becomes the President tomorrow. The freedom of expression comes with certain inherent responsibilities.

SportsRe: Where’s The $960,000 FIFA Gave Nigeria – Ex-Falcons Coach, Waldrum Questions NFF by teepain:
Reports have always inundated us with mind-boggling corruption in NFF (or NFA as it was). We have been hearing about it since God knows when and and yet it has not abated till date. However, FIFA makes it difficult to check mate this problem because any investigation and sanction by the government may be interpreted as "interference".
PoliticsRe: The Resolutions Of The Southern Governors And Traditional Rulers Forum (2025) by teepain: 12:44pm On Nov 27, 2025
DMerciful:
I mean the southern govs need to be more forceful. When you say advocacy, it means trying to convince others to join. They don't need to convince anybody because the president said those that are willing should start. He just needs to instruct his rubberstamp assembly to pass it immediately
Okay, I get your perspectives now. And talking about the rubber-stamp national assembly (as you put it) it is not that easy when it comes to a constitutional amendment. For it, to become law 2/3rd of the states house of assemblies have to agree to it. That is where the conundrum is and there is need for tact to convince the northern states on the need to support state policing. Otherwise, it cannot be forced.

These are the facts of the matter that we have to live with. No matter how strongly we believe in certain principles, constitutional democracy in a multi-ethnic society like ours, can slow down things.
PoliticsRe: The Resolutions Of The Southern Governors And Traditional Rulers Forum (2025) by teepain: 11:09am On Nov 27, 2025
DMerciful:
I understand what Tinubu said about it being optional but this is Southern Governors forum so whats the excuse?
I believe that this is not an "excuse". I guess that the Southern Governors, decided to collectively voice their support for state police, perhaps, to let it be on record that they are not the one holding it back. And this can serve as a wake up call for southern lawmakers to push harder for the constitutional amendment that is required at the national bill before state police can become operational.
PoliticsRe: The Resolutions Of The Southern Governors And Traditional Rulers Forum (2025) by teepain: 9:28am On Nov 27, 2025
DMerciful:
Why are they not serious about state police? What's the meaning of renewed advocacy for state police? Who are they advocating to? The president?
I guess they are advocating it to some Northern governors. I think it was the complaints from some Northern states that stalled it because they spoke about their potential inability to fund state police in some of their states. And I think that explains why Tinubu recently asked that the lawmakers should modify the constitution such that any state that wanted state police could go ahead with having one.
PoliticsRe: Nnamdi Kanu Convicted On FG’s Terrorism Charge by teepain: 3:02pm On Nov 20, 2025
FreeStuffsNG:
Champagne bawo?

I think it is sobering that it took this long for justice to come for the victims. It's bad for the convict , victims and families of the victims.

The long trial also played into the religious/tribal bigotry weapon the convict combined with the wide media/social media coverage to cause division, terrorize innocent citizens and further traumatize the families of the victims.

I believe the Judiciary has learnt valuable lessons too.
Very apt. The government from the day of Buhari and the judiciary wasted too much time on this case. The matter should have gone to trial since. Holding accused persons without trying them does not show us as a serious country.

And again, this penchant for political solutions is not helping matters. Going forward, we must allow lady justice to blindly determine issues without minding whose ox is gored. Enough of this madness of seeing some political leaders or local chiefs hold peace talks with murderers parading as bandits without the law enforcement officers rounding them for arrest and prosecution.
EducationRe: Abuja Parents Who Slapped Teacher Release Statement by teepain: 6:08pm On Nov 16, 2025
The parents' statement flies in the face of logic. Assuming without conceding that the teacher had previously assaulted their child on previous occasions, this defence can only be justifiable if they have records of reporting the issue to the necessary authorities ( i.e. the ministry of education, the police, the school authorities)

Without prior reports of alleged previous assaults it would at the very least appear as if they resorted to self help. Therefore, their acts remain condemnable and actionable.

SmartPolician:
This thread reminded me of the comments by Penguin2 that Soludo would be kicked out for criticising Peter Obi. Wetin happen last? You people need to understand that anyone who chooses to serve the public should get ready for criticisms and verbal attacks.

Every job has its downside. If you cannot manage that downside, don't bother running for elective positions. Anambra guber election is the most predictable in Nigeria
Like seriously, I laughed at the lots that were over estimating themselves calling Soludo one time governor. Regardless of his shortcomings, and all men have theirs, Soludo remains one of the shining lights from the south east.

stuffs2002:
America is not interested in saving Nigeria. They only want to destroy Nigeria and steal our resources
While I do not have evidence to controvert your submission, permit me to add that a country that allows it's governors and other elected officials to hold open "peace meetings" meetings with murderers is already on its way to destruction with or without America's intervention.

According to the Nigerian law, anyone who kills shall be killed, why are bandits and terrorists treated differently? These are people who have killed several people and yet the Northern leadership does not find it offensive or repulsive.

What is happening in the North at the moment is reprehensible and highly condemnable, yet the seed was planted long ago. When a people delight in killing humans like them under the guise of "being infidels", they become desensitized to human killing and they will start killing themselves overtime. If this nonsense is not nipped in the bud, what is playing out now will be child's play compared to what is to come.

THE FIVE STATE SOLUTION

Oduduwa republic
Arewa republic
Biafra republic
Niger Delta republic
Middle Belt republic
Honestly, this solution is what America should be trying to implement in Nigeria and not just military intervention.

We are so different in many ways, making it difficult to achieve national cohesion in the present form that we have.

The only concern is what will be the fate of non-muslims in the Arewa republic if this your proposal is implemented? Perhaps other regions may not be opposed to accommodating them!

This FG layoff happening in most of the sectors what is happening?
This is not an FG layoff please. Discos are private companies and I honestly think that many of them are over-staffed. Distribution companies do not need the present number of employees that they carry.

As privately owned entities many of them require critical personnel audit to evaluate their personnel needs. If they are over-staffed they will pass on the cost of this inefficiency on to their customers.

grandstar:
If this is true, Emefiele is a disgrace to economics if there was ever one. That was totally unnecessary. Simply following the fx policies he inherited from Jonathan was sufficient.

Buhari was a populist and focused on people friendly policies, even if it meant bankrupting the economy in the process. He didn't want Nigerians to "suffer."

So, he refused to abolish the subsidy, and preferred to borrow to finance it. He refuses to streamline the civil service despite inheriting a thin purse.

He also refused to allow a market determined exchange despite brazen economic ruin it was causing.

Tinubu made the right call. Didn't Jonathan want to remove subsidy? Did Okonjo-Iweala and Lamido Sanusi not support it?

You can not remove subsidy in phases due to inflation, persistent currency depreciation, and the ever changing price of crude oil.
Thanks for schooling that one.
PoliticsRe: FG Mulls Refineries Sale To Boost Competition by teepain: 11:56pm On Nov 05, 2025
One of the biggest mistakes was the reversal of these refineries' sale by late President Yaradua. Towards the end of OBJ's tenure, OBJ - having recognised the futility of holding on to the refineries - sold them to private investors but Yaradua reversed the sale.

The optics of the public "peace deals" with fully armed terrorists was ill-thought out and has proven to be this government's archiles heels. It's all the US government will need to justify their position that some government officials were aiding and abetting the carnage. No matter how hard the headlines are sensationalised, Tinubu cannot absolve himself from responsibility as the C-in-C.
When your governors in the North both under PDP and APC, were romanticizing bandits and all manners of criminals you never bothered to call them out. You lots castigated Jonathan for your mindlessness, here you are again castigating Tinubu another southerner. The ants infested wood your people brought home is attracting all manners of lizards now!

These people are up to something and they're using Christians as pawns in their power games. Trump, if you can't grant these vulnerable Christians asylum in your country please STFU and face your country!

Christians are being targeted in mosque attacks is majority Muslim states like Katsina, Niger and Kwara? When someone that has openly shown that he has disdain for you suddenly starts acting concerned about you, you should be worried especially if this person comes from a country that has caused the most chaos in the world. You should be very worried.
Unfortunately, many of your countrymen do not have much mental capacity to understand the way these things play out! If only they can picture Libya before and after Gaddafi; Iraq before and after US' intervention, Afghanistan before and after the international community's intervention.

Many of them think they are catching cruise now but when shit hits the fan, they would understand that what they are wishing for is not what it is.

DomPerignon:
Ogun and Ondo sea ports are the only ones that can compete with Lagos owing to their proximity to Lagos, SW industrial base and northern export land routes.

The Lagos - Calabar Highway will improve the activities of ports in Warri , PH and Calabar to an extent as the road network can facilitate opening them up to traffic especially northern agro exports.
Hopefully, port activities in those places will improve based on the reason you stated.

The truth of the issue is that it will not be as easy as PO thinks.
Why should it not be easy. As a matter of fact, more port activities should be located outside of Lagos state so that the state can get rid of the attendant gridlock and transport problem associated with the port operations in Lagos state. Additionally, the quality of air should improve if the suggestion is considered. Lagos state has other unique selling points that will generate money for the state.

The worst part is that nothing will be done. No heads will roll for this international disgrace.
How can head rolls? FIFA itself enables corruption in the national Football Associations all over the world. This is because FIFA restricts the way and manner that individual nations can check the excesses of their FAs. For instance, there is a limit to what EFCC or ICPC can do in checking financial corruption in NFF, as FIFA may tag it as government interference.
