When you see crowd comming beyond normal, common sense should tell you ,that you must close the gate, infact, if possible cancel the event entirely, people must take firm decision atimes, that decision will save bigger calamity, those who don't know reason might blame and curse you, but you know within you that it's decision, though painful but for overall good of you or people.

Closing the gate is not even the issue. Was a risk assessment ever conducted prior to the event. Having such a large number of people in one place comes with potential dangers or risks that have to be planned for.

We are missing the point here and sadly this could repeat itself because there are no clear indications that lessons have been learnt.

Ideally, any event of such magnitude is supposed to be approved by the authorities after the organisers would have submitted their proposal alongside their risk assessment report. The risk assessment report would have been evaluated to see that all the bases are covered for potential risks.

But, here in this country people believe they can just gather others together without any control.

What makes a matter criminal or civil is the constitution. And if it has been proven that our constitution provides for criminal defamation then people ought to be doubly sure of their facts before they go about defaming others.

Though it may be true that aggrieved parties who feel defamed can sue for damages, it is important to note that damages alone may not be able to cure the injury suffered by defamed people. I agree that it is a double-edged sword but Nigerians need to show more restraint in how they use the media, especially, social media in spreading rumours or unsubstantiated claims against others. Privileges come with responsibilities.

Well done @op. The problem is half-solved because you have identified the root cause which is the fact that your daughter's previous mathematics teachers did a poor job.

How I will go about it with the steps are enumerated below:

1. I will sit with her and praise her intelligence (citing the accolades from her English teacher as proof) and emphasize that she has the ability to gain mastery of any subject with her gift.

2. I will challenge her to use her intelligence to work harder at her maths and tell her that we are in it together as a team. And that I will provide all the assistance in terms of resources required for the task.

3. I will engage a maths teacher that has a proven record of imparting skills to students at my daughter's level for extra coaching

4. I will get her a good maths textbook that has a workbook and make her practice all the exercises.

Note:
Mathematics is one of the easiest subjects to learn because it is more of routine. Once you understand the procedure for solving a problem, you would be able to solve similar problems any other time.

Anyone wanting to build a refinery will enjoy such support. The government of every nation always support Mega infrastructures that is beneficial to the economy.

Even foreign investors enjoy such support and it’s not peculiar to Dangote only.

But Dangote have been accused in times past of enjoying benefits that his competitors didn't enjoy. Infact, not too long ago Abdul-Samad the Chairman of BUA cement decried such before he could access some privileges. Emefiele was equally accused of underhand dealings with Dangote. We need to ensure level playing ground for competition if we are serious about growing our economy.

If anyone feels uncomfortable, he/she should build another refinery and compete.

Without prejudice to your submission that others should build their refineries and compete with Dangote, I am hoping that anyone who wants to build will enjoy exactly the kind of support that Dangote enjoyed from the Government while building his refinery. Support such as subsidized dollar, equity financing and others. It is only then that we can talk of fair trade practices.

I completely agree with the assertion that local manufacturers should be supported. However, they in turn must learn not to take their primary (domestic) market for granted. Dangote has enjoyed a lot of government support, especially under Buhari, more than any other business. Subsidized dollar, government's capital investment, import duty waivers and a host of others.

With our experience in the cement, sugar, salt markets, I am not convinced that Dangote's near monopolization of the petrol supply market will be good for the country.

The day government announces that import license has been terminated, fuel price will jump to 2000-2500 and it will continue to go up.

Transportation price will increase, food prices will increase and house rent will increase. Are you ready for any of these?

At this point, you need over supply of PMS in Nigeria so the price can fall. If you stop importing because Dangote is producing, what happens when Dangote start cutting back production to create artificial scarcity? Price increase. Are you ready for more price increase?

Dangote the greedy monopolist is selling his pms and diesel at international price, USA and Canada and UK price, yet is he paying his workers, drivers, staff, employee same international wage rate? Is he paying $18 per hour of work since he's so determined to sell same price as USA?

You understand the game. It beats my imagination why some folks do not understand the game that Dangote is playing. For me, Dangote's antecedents in other industries are the very reasons that Nigerians should ever allow him to monopolize an industry or enjoy any unfair trade practices.

They are just that the volume is very low. And some concentrate on a particular crude products than PMS. Like azikel focus more on AGO and naptha oil.

So, it is safe to assume that Dangote is the one orchestrating the anti-importation scheme against Petrol because like you said these other small refiners do not refine PMS.

Now, in the past I supported the banning of rice importation to boost local capacity but I saw the inflationary effect. Secondly, during the period when Naira was losing its value, I saw how local producers didn't care so much about their fellow country men, they preferred to sell their stuffs, especially, to neighbouring countries because they could make more courtesy of exchange rates.

If businessmen or producers wouldn't mind making extra bucks at the risk of their country men (major and sustainable patrons') starving to death, then government should not compel consumers to be loyal to Nigerian producers. It takes 2 to tango. Bunch of idiotic exploiters!

Every developed country discourages imports, protects and encourages their local industries in order to create jobs and save scarce foreign exchange. But in Nigeria, we do the opposite, i can't understand the kind of people we are in this country.

Sebi you were all supporting him when he cried that he wasn't getting crude oil from Nigeria. Now he is getting it but see what he is doing to us all. Me I knew Dangote was not going to behave differently from the way he behaved in the case of cement. Everything has been skewed to favour him a very long time ago. You can imagine him telling the courts to stop importers from importing. You can see now? This is not even about Tinubu but what has been planned when he started building the refinery under GEJ.

Can you even try to imagine what Dangote will do to you if he discovers you want to build a refinery half or a quarter of his in Nigeria? He will fight tooth and nails to make sure your refinery doesn't come to life.

I wonder those that were supporting him. Today, Dangote's cement is not of the highest quality in Nigeria based on my experience yet he is the one that ran down his competitors touting his 3x as the best thing in Nigerian cement industry.

He tried to monopolize the flour and pasta industry but Dufil (makers of indomie) already enjoyed the first mover advantage in Nigeria, so it became difficult for him.

During Buhari's regime, Abdul-samad (the owner of BUA cement had to cry to high heavens before he could access certain privileges which was made the exclusive preserve of Dangote.

My fear is that with his first mover advantage in the refining industry, Dangote work against the emergency of any major local refining competitors. He may allow some small players but he will do everything to control 80% of the market.

People should learnt to make the health status of public officials issue for innuendoes and jokes.

Regardless of the political leanings and sheer irresponsibility of some of our public officials their health status should not be mocked because no one is guaranteed anything in terms of health.

I have seen evildoers live healthy lives growing to ripe old age and I have seen decent and good people die young and some not ageing gracefully. Sadly,in another 10 years, some far younger people making derisive comments about this guy may turn out to look older than this guy on account of ill-health.

This assertion flies in the face of logic. If the Dangote is serious and honest, let him sell to neighbouring countries. From there, we would see if his PMS will be cheap. Infact, if he sells cheaper fuel to Benin Republic for instance, we should witness a situation where the smuggling of subsidized fuel from Nigeria would cease.

You are referring to the revised deadline. Kyari had promised earlier deadlines without walking the talk. At the end of the day Mele Kyari, GMD NNPC, may just end up as the Achilles' heel of this Tinubu government just like Emefiele was to Buhari's regime.

There is nothing the presidency can do about the malfeasance of these governors because of that thorny immunity issue. This is why I support financial autonomy for local governments because the chairmen do not enjoy constitutional immunity so it may be easier to monitor them for judicious funds usage.

The people can now go straight and hold any non performing chairman accountable if they see no tangible development. Over time Local Chairmen would decide if they want serious heat from their people or use the money for projects to settle Governors.

I agree with you but I just want to add that it will be easier for EFCC to handle local government chairmen because they they do not have immunity from prosecution which unlike the governors.
