Business / Re: Dangote Refinery Playing Emotional Blackmail, Nigerians Swallowing It – Adeoti by teepain: 6:06pm On Sep 13 |
jaxxy: This assertion flies in the face of logic. If the Dangote is serious and honest, let him sell to neighbouring countries. From there, we would see if his PMS will be cheap. Infact, if he sells cheaper fuel to Benin Republic for instance, we should witness a situation where the smuggling of subsidized fuel from Nigeria would cease. |

thatigboman: You are referring to the revised deadline. Kyari had promised earlier deadlines without walking the talk. At the end of the day Mele Kyari, GMD NNPC, may just end up as the Achilles' heel of this Tinubu government just like Emefiele was to Buhari's regime. 1 Like |

mignone: There is nothing the presidency can do about the malfeasance of these governors because of that thorny immunity issue. This is why I support financial autonomy for local governments because the chairmen do not enjoy constitutional immunity so it may be easier to monitor them for judicious funds usage. |

Politics / Re: "Occupy Nigeria Protest Didn’t Turn Violent, GEJ Didn’t Approve Use Of Force" by teepain: 3:37pm On Jul 28 |
Amalekki: God bless you for the quoted statement. Until protesters understand that there are no absolute rights, then we will keep acting in error. I tell people, please protest if you must but don't barricade the roads, or force people to partake in your protests because these are recipes for failed protests. The right that you have to protest is the same right that another person has not to protest! Keep the protests civil and respect the rights of others. Good luck. 2 Likes |

Foreign Affairs / Re: Kagame Seeks Fourth Term As Rwandan President by teepain: 8:26am On Jul 15 |
SmartPolician: Any so called leader who has failed to groom a worthy successor after 24 years does not deserve any leadership accolades. Besides, the genesis of the war they fought in the past was because the other tribe accused Kagame's minority tribe of dominating them. Therefore, Kagame's 24-year presidency, which might become 36 years if he wins, is furthering the dominance which is condemnable. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

Politics / Re: Minimum Wage Talks: Labour Considers N100,000 As Tinubu Issues Ultimatum by teepain: 12:12pm On Jun 05 |
casualobserver: Nice analysis. Let me elucidate further. The average Nigerian civil servants (those gainfully employed) gets to work by 9 am, chats away with his/ her colleagues for at least 1 hour per day, fiddles with his phone while at work for some considerable amount of time, some would find time to negotiate for wares from various sellers, do some work and by 3pm they are rounding up for the day. Effectively, I am not sure that any Nigerian civil servant puts in more than 3-4 hours of effective work per day. Hence, the low productivity. This extends somewhat to the private sector and the elected officials. This explains why Nigeria is in this mess that we are in. To get ahead of this malaise, we have to find a way to get government officials to cut their excess and unjustifiable renumeration, both official and un-official ones. And we all have to reconsider our contributions to the national purse and do better than we currently do. 1 Like |
Celebrities / Re: Toyin Abraham: Tinubu Promised Prosperity, I Will Never Campaign Again by teepain: 12:22pm On Jun 04 |
Why are folks disturbing the lady? Direct your angst to the elected officials. She supported a candidate she believes in like every other person and she reserves that right. People have been elected in the past who didn't live up to the expectations of their supporters and this is not ending soon. You can help a man to get employed but you cannot help him to do his job. Otherwise the cycle is not ending soon. What guarantee do you have that your candidate will perform if elected! 1 Like |

Education / Re: Alex Timileyin: Ajayi Crowther Student Beaten To Death Is A Prince In Delta by teepain: 10:09am On May 28 |
The issue of the deceased being a prince or not is not even important. What matters most is that a presumably innocent young man has been killed by some bloodthirsty idiots. Are we saying that justice should only take its course because he was a prince? Is the life of a non-prince supposed to be worthless? Prince or no prince, the murderers who killed this chap should be made to face wrath of the law and sentenced accordingly. That horrendous killing tagged ALUU4 comes to my mind readily. We need to put a stop to this madness. 1 Like |
Politics / Re: Why National Grid Hasn’t Collapsed In Last 2 Months – Power Minister, Adelabu by teepain: 4:06pm On May 25 |
SoNature: Most of what you have said is largely true but you might be mistaken about Fashola. Different tools for different tasks. I believe that Fashola's tenure as Minister of Power was mostly spent looking into the contractual terms of agreement with the Private sectors who bought into the sector during the privatisation exercise. Some stupid exit clauses were fraudulently inserted into the contracts and if we were not careful, we could have a PID kind of case on our hands. I believe that he uncovered some loopholes that the Federal Government can exploit to break the monopoly that the Discos held. I believe that this is why the FG is now able to unbundle the DISCOs without being liable. |

Jorussia: You just mentioned the elephant in the room and that is the fact that many forged their POF and with the surge in the number of foreign students many are finding it difficult to even find jobs to exhaust their allocated 20 hours. And then it becomes difficult to raise the remainder of their fees through their earnings as many had hoped. |

Politics / Re: Top 10 States That Borrowed From The CBN To Pay Salaries In Nigeria by teepain: 9:50am On Mar 25 |
adioolayi: Most Nigerians are forgetful. The Nigerian economy has been wobbling for some years. I remember when the former minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy, Dr Okonjo Iweala, disclosed that Federal Government was borrowing to pay federal government employees towards the end of GEJ's government. About that same time, more than two-third of the states owed their employees several months' salary. On of the first things Buhari did as president was to bail out the states with borrowed funds. He bailed out the states about 3 times and that started his journey of borrowing which persisted through its tenure. I am curious to know how we got to a situation where FG couldn't afford to pay staff salaries towards GEJ tenure end despite the fact that Obasanjo previously got us debt relief and paid the outstanding debts. 1 Like |

aribisala0: You make a lot of sense. One of the challenges that Nigerians have is the inability to distill issues. There is this tendency to want to crucify people based on their political affiliations. In my opinion, while it looks fishy, this man hasn't done anything wrong in my opinion except further material disclosures are made as to his involvement. Until then what we have are only suspicions, perhaps because of the antecedents of the average Nigerian politician. |
