Things seem not be going President Buhari's way at the moment as the name of two dead men have been sighted among the list of 209 chairmen appointed.

Yesterday, we reported that Buhari had appointed 209 chairmen and 1258 members for government agencies.

However, the name of a dead senator, Francis Okpozo, listed as the chairman of the Nigerian Press Council (NPC) was sighted on the list.

So also was the name of a retired deputy inspector-general of police, Donald Ugbaja, who was also appointed member of the Consumer Protection Council (CPC).

Ugbaja died in November 2017 while Okpozo died in December 2016 at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Edo state.

At the time of Okpozo’s death, Femi Adesina, presidential spokesman, had released a condolence message on behalf of President Buhari — so he should be aware, no?

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the constitution of the governing boards of agencies and parastatals under some ministries.

He has also appointed 209 chairmen and 1258 members fill the board positions.

The development was communicated in a statement released by Boss Mustapha, the secretary to the government of the federation.

It read: “Mr. President considered the approval for the constitution of the Boards as well as the appointments, very necessary, so as to provide a proper Governance and oversight structure for Government Agencies and Parastatals. The constitution of the boards with the appointments, is a demonstration of this Government’s efforts aimed at building strong institutions of Governance, and by extension, improving the quality of Policy formulation and supervision.

Manchester City made it 18 wins in a row in the Premier League with a 1-0 procession against Newcastle United on Wednesday.

The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), has assured Nigerians that the fuel scarcity issue will not last any longer.

Baru revealed that Nigeria currently has over 20 days of petrol sufficiency available so Nigerians shouldn't worry.

Baru was speaking on the fuel situation shortly after he met with President Muhammadu Buhari today over the fuel scarcity issue.

In a series of tweet and a video message, He said,

"I'm reassuring Nigerians that we have over 20 days petrol sufficiency. Queues will be resolved soon, as distribution intensifies. There are challenges with marketers hoarding, that is being dealt with as well.

"In addition to existing supplies on ground, another 3 ships are currently unloading 150 million litres of petrol. NNPC will push this additional supply out within 3-4 days.

Real Madrid defender, Dani Carvajal was shown a straight red card for a ridiculous handball in the much anticipated El Clasico match between Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Madrid, who hosted Barca at the Santiago Bernabeu, were trailing 1-0 to the visitors in the second half, when a lose ball fell to Luis Suarez.

Suarez had only the keeper to beat but failed to do so. The ball then bounced for Messi and Messi's guided header was heading for the back of the net only for Carvajal to pull off a spectacular save with his hand.

He was rightly shown a straight red card and Messi dispatched the penalty to give Barca a comfortable 2-0 lead.

Nigeria was part of of the 128 nations that voted against US President, Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

This was done by a vote at the United Nations on Thursday.

Nine countries supported the US' decision, 35 abstained and another 21 did not participate in the vote.

Turkey and Yemen co-sponsored the draft resolution which called on all countries to refrain from establishing diplomatic missions in Jerusalem.

Later on Thursday, US ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, Nikki Haley sent a terse letter to dozens of countries that voted against the US.

President Trump, pleased with his assertive ambassador, added that the US would cut funding to any country that supported the General Assembly resolution.

Arsenal and Liverpool played out the best game of the Premier League season so far, the Gunners coming from two goals down to lead only for Roberto Firmino to claim a dramatic 3-3 draw.

Philippe Coutinho had Liverpool deservedly in front at half time, the Brazil international beating Petr Cech with a deft header after Mohamed Salah's cross looped up off Laurent Koscielny.

But while Jurgen Klopp's side dominated the first period, they were later left to rue missed chances.

An epic second half initially saw a rampant Liverpool double their advantage shortly after the restart, Salah's shot deflecting in after Firmino led a superb counter-attack.

Their two-goal lead was short-lived, though, as within six remarkable minutes a resurgent Arsenal were front.

Alexis Sanchez headed through the legs of Simon Mignolet from Hector Bellerin's pinpoint right-wing cross, then the goalkeeper was beaten too easily by Granit Xhaka's viciously swerving drive.

A report by the auditor-general of the federation has revealed that the huge sum of money found at Ikoyi was taken from Nigeria’s joint venture (JV) cash call account at the American bank, JP Morgan Chase.

According to reports by the Cable, NNPC currently runs six JVs — with Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC), Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL), Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited (MPNU), Nigerian Agip Oil Company Limited (NAOC), Elf Petroleum Nigeria Limited (EPNL) and Texaco Overseas Petroleum Company of Nigeria Unlimited (TOPCON).

Also, there was no documentation for the official release of $289,202,382 to the the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) — which claimed the $43 million found at the residence was the balance from the money it received for “covert projects”.

Beyond a request sent to President Goodluck Jonathan by Ayodele Oke — who was the NIA director-general at the time — the normal processes of approval and authorisation for the release of government funds were not followed.

In yet another revelation, the CBN would normally credit NIA’s account at the apex bank, but it was instead directed to release the money in cash to Oke, according to the audit report sighted by the cable.

In April 2017, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said it had discovered $43 million, £27,000 and N23 million stashed away at a flat in Ikoyi after a tip-off from a whistle blower.

Following reports that the monies belonged to the NIA, the Cable subsequently reported that the agency collected $289,202,382 in cash from the account of the National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS) at CBN in February 2015 after the postponement of the general election.

Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, has noted that the northern region of the Nigeria are 'desperately' searching for oil because they are scared of restructuring.

Ekweremadu however said that they have no reason to be scared as crude oil is fast losing its commercial value.

He explained that the fear is unnecessary, as many countries that patronised Nigeria’s oil have also discovered theirs.

He added that oil revenue will ultimately drop as the world inches closer to the new era of electric cars.

Ekweremadu, who spoke while presenting a paper on ‘Restructuring and the Nigerian youth’ at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, said the entire nation would benefit from restructuring.

“I have also noticed a desperate search for oil in the Lake Chad, Sokoto, and Benue River basins in recent times, obviously spurred by the campaign for restructuring,” Ekweremadu said.

“But it is an unfounded fear. The days of oil are numbered. It is the least strategic wealth we have now.

“Many countries have found oil in large quantities, including those that used to patronise us for oil. Importantly, many nations are already phasing out petrol and diesel engines.

Korey Smith's stoppage-time winner stunned EFL Cup holders Manchester United, as Championship side Bristol City beat Jose Mourinho's men 2-1.

A boxing champion who has represented England six times has been arrested and locked in an immigration detention centre, pending deportation to Nigeria, a country that has said it won’t allow him to live there as he is not a citizen.

Kelvin Fawaz, London’s current middleweight boxing champion, has been in the UK for 15 years, since he was a child. He is a gifted amateur boxer whom Team GB wanted to represent Britain in the 2012 and 2016 Olympics, writing twice to the Home Office on his behalf.

Fawaz realised his talent despite, as a child, being brought from his home in Nigeria to the UK where he was abandoned and forced into domestic slavery. He has not been allowed to take up a place on Team GB because the Home Office has repeatedly refused to issue him a work visa. Although the Nigerian government has rejected his applications for a passport and he holds no other, his application to be considered stateless has been rejected by the government.

“Kelvin is a terrifically, tremendously talented young man who has helped my fighter Josh Taylor get ready for a couple of fights,” said promoter and former boxing world champion Barry McGuigan. “Kelvin has the capacity to go far: he’s already brought glory to England many times and could go even further for this country if he was allowed by the Home Office to become a Team GB fighter, as they want him to be. Kelvin’s got a great personality. He ticks all the boxes.”

Fawaz, 29, has been trying to establish his nationality since the period of discretionary leave he was granted as a child expired when he turned 18. He has repeatedly written to the high commissions in Nigeria as well as Benin and Lebanon, the birthplaces of his parents.

Omarosa Manigault Newman, a former star of “The Apprentice” and one of President Donald Trump’s most prominent African-American aides, is leaving her post as a presidential adviser, the White House said Wednesday morning.

According to a brief White House statement, Ms. Manigault Newman “resigned yesterday to pursue other opportunities.” The resignation won’t take effect until Jan. 20, 2018, the one-year anniversary of Mr. Trump’s inauguration, the White House said.

“We wish her the best in future endeavors and are grateful for her service,” the White House said.

Ms. Manigault Newman’s departure was abrupt, according to a White House official, who said that Ms. Manigault Newman was “physically dragged and escorted off the campus” Tuesday evening.

Ms. Manigault Newman didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Fifa has punished Nigeria for using an ineligible player in their final World Cup qualifier against Algeria in November.

The match in Constantine originally ended in a 1-1 draw but that has now been overturned and Algeria awarded a 3-0 win.

The sanction does not affect Nigeria's World Cup qualification as they had already clinched a place in Russia before the Algeria tie.

Abdullahi Shehu played the whole match against Algeria even though he should have been suspended for picking up yellow cards in two previous qualifiers.

In a draw that is set to excite many, Nigeria will face Argentina, Iceland and Croatia in Group D of the preliminary round of the 2018 Fifa World Cup.

The draw ceremony, which also served up plenty of interesting match-ups, took place Friday evening in Moscow's State Kremlin Palace, Russia.

Nigerian forward, Victor Moses returned from injury as Chelsea beat Swansea by a lone goal at the Stamford bridge on Wednesday evening.

Antonio Rudiger's headed goal earned Chelsea a 1-0 victory over Swansea City but the margin should have been far greater.

Chelsea were in control from start to finish against a Swansea side who failed to muster a single shot on target, but they were left to rely on a somewhat scruffy Rudiger effort to claim a win that keeps the gap to second-placed Manchester United at three points.

Conte was given his marching orders towards the end of the first half, when he lost his temper after his side were wrongly denied a corner.

Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Gernot Rohr has arrived Russia ahead of the draw for the 2018 FIFA world cup.

The draw, which would hold on Friday in Moscow, is widely anticipated by football fans as it would reveal which countries fall in which groups.

Rohr, who would be hoping for a good campaign with Nigeria, arrived the Crowne Plaza on Wednesday.

He was received by a delegate which included Khusainov Azat, a Russian and the 2018 World Cup Team Liaison Officer (TLO).

Azat predicted that Nigeria and Russia would be in the same group and went ahead to predict a Russia vs Nigeria opening game for the World Cup on June 14, 2018.

More than 200 Nigerian migrants stranded in Libya have been returned to their home country, Nigerian officials said.

The 242 migrants landed at Lagos airport on a Libyan airline flight at around 9pm local time on Tuesday. Among them were women carrying children and at least one man in a wheelchair.

Nigerian authorities say they worked on returning the migrants from Libya in collaboration with the International Organization of Migration. (IOM).

Some of the 242 men and women who returned had been in Libyan detention camps while some of them willingly approached the Nigerian embassy in Libya to return home because of hardship there, authorities said.

Abike Dabiri, SSA to President Buhari said the Nigerian government had been working with the IOM, and the Nigerian Commission for Refugees and Migrants (NCFRMI) and other local agencies for the past year to bring Nigerians back home.

Dabiri told CNN that around 5000 Nigerians have come back from Libya in the past year. She said: "The President has said any Nigerian who wants to come back should be brought back, so IOM has been helping out."

However, one eagle-eyed fan took notice of a nude Adesua in the background and zoomed in on her.

New revelations have emerged suggesting that some of the loyalists of former President Goodluck wanted a military coup to prevent Muhammadu Buhari from assuming power in 2015.

After Jonathan had conceded the election to Buhari, it was suggested at one of the crisis meetings that the military should stage a coup — in which case neither Jonathan nor Buhari would be in power.

There were fears then that Buhari would launch a vendetta campaign against those who offended him during electioneering.

But the suggestion was shot down by an unnamed person who said it was too late in the day, pointing out that it would have been more plausible before the election was held at all.

All these are part of the many revelations in a new book titled: ‘On a Platter of Gold: How Jonathan Won and Lost Nigeria’, written by Bolaji Abdullahi.

The book will go on sale nationwide from November 30, 2017 after the launch.

In the advance copy, the author said everyone who heard the audio of Jonathan’s telephone conversation with Buhari breathed a sigh of relief that the president found it in himself to take the road that had been so less travelled on the continent of Africa.

“Many in President Jonathan’s circles were still convinced that he had moved too quickly to congratulate Buhari. As they saw it, he should have tarried a while and possibly consulted more.

"In spite of what had happened however, it was still possible to salvage something. Jonathan’s call had more or less shut the door on everything. However, so long as Buhari had not been sworn in, there would still be cracks that sheer grit and guile could blow wide open.

Dino Melaye, the controversial Senator from Kogi state, is at it again as he has registered his displeasure at people investigating wealthy people's source of money.

In a video posted online, Melaye noted that he has issue with people targetting rich people.

He said,

"What is actually wrong with people? Someone would make money, you'll say you want to investigate the source of his wealth.

"When he was poor, did you investigate the source of his poverty?"

Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr is currently in his home country Germany as he aims to add fresh legs to his squad ahead of the Russia 2018 world cup which is just few months away.

Rohr aims to identify Nigerian talents playing in the Bundesliga to boost his squad after the Eagles qualified for their sixth World Cup, finishing top and unbeaten in a group that had African champions Cameroon, Zambia and Algeria.

Rohr, who guided Nigeria to a shock 4-2 victory over football superpowers Argentina in a friendly encounter in Krasnodar, Russia, on November 14, has since said the players who did not play any part during the qualifiers will get their opportunities to break into the World Cup squad.

Punch reported that the 64-year-old has been encouraged to revive his interest in the players he had pencilled in for the World Cup qualifiers but could not get them – after succeeding in convincing Russian-born Brian Idowu to switch his international allegiance to Nigeria after a long battle.

Reports in the German media on Monday said Rohr watched the Bundesliga clash between Hoffenheim and Eintracht Frankfurt at Wirsol Rhein-Neckar-Arena in which German-born Nigerian centre-back Kevin Akpoguma played the 90 minutes for the home side (Hoffenheim).

Citizens of Zimbabwe are in ecstatic mood as President of the country, Robert Mugabe announced his resignation after almost 40 years in charge.

It was an emotional moment for many especially an activist who has fought hard for the liberation of the country.

"It's the best thing that's ever happened to Zimbabwe," Perseverance Sande, 20, said in central Harare just minutes after news of Mugabe's resignation began spreading and crowds of people started singing around her.

"I've been waiting so long for this moment."
