A huge new leak of financial documents has revealed how the powerful and ultra-wealthy, including the Queen's private estate, secretly invest vast amounts of cash in offshore tax havens.

Donald Trump's commerce secretary is shown to have a stake in a firm dealing with Russians sanctioned by the US.

The leak, dubbed the Paradise Papers, contains 13.4m documents, mostly from one leading firm in offshore finance.
BBC Panorama is part of nearly 100 media groups investigating the papers.

As with last year's Panama Papers leak, the documents were obtained by the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, which called in the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) to oversee the investigation. The Guardian is among the nearly 100 media partners involved in investigating the documents.

Sunday's revelations form only a small part of a week of disclosures that will expose the tax and financial affairs of some of the hundreds of people and companies named in the data, some with strong UK connections.

A gunman opened fire at a church in Texas during Sunday services, resulting in multiple reported casualties.

The attack happened at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs in Wilson County.

Local ABC affiliate KSAT 12 reported the gunman entered the church at around 11:30 local time and began shooting.

Police told the outlet there were "multiple victims" and the gunman had been killed in the aftermath. The number of casualties is not yet clear.

Photos and video from the scene showed the area taped off by local law enforcement.

A number of helicopters have arrived to transport the wounded, KSAT 12 reporter Max Massey said.

A traffic official and witness has said that driver of Governor Ayo Fayose's burnt Mercedes-Benz G-Class waited to pack cash out of the vehicle after it was burnt.

Last week Wednesday, the Ekiti state governor narrowly escaped death after his Mercedes-Benz G-Class caught fire and was burnt on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Lagos State.

Reports revealed that the vehicle had just had a lone accident when the governor fled it and escaped into another car which was in his convoy.

It was gathered that traffic officials with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency later responded to the incident.

“The accident happened around 1.30pm on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway inward Airport Road. It happened on the Oshodi bridge, not too far from the LASTMA’s headquarters.

“We cannot tell the exact cause of the fire. We gathered from those at the scene that the governor was in the G-Class when the accident happened and he quickly escaped into another car in his convoy.

“On getting to the scene, we saw the driver who tried to cover his face with a Fez cap. He watched helplessly as the fire raged on. We alerted the state fire service and LASEMA. The LASEMA response unit had to take one way to access the accident scene because the road was blocked because of the inferno.

“On arrival, they were able to douse the fire. The vehicle was seriously burnt. The driver did not talk to anybody. We saw as he started packing some of the burnt cash in the car. They were N500 notes.

There was a mild drama on Wednesday morning as head of the service of the federation, Winifred Oyo-Ita and chief of staff to the president, Abba Kyari confronted each other.

The Cable reported that the heated exchange which went on for about ten minutes on Wednesday was witnessed by top government functionaries.

The reason for the arguement is not far fetched. It was because a letter written by Oyo-Ita indicting President Muhammadu Buhari in the reinstatement of Abdulrasheed Maina somehow found its way to the media.

In the memo addressed to Kyari, Oyo-Ita maintained that the president knew about the reinstatement and that she warned him there would be a public backlash.

The driver of a rental truck drove the wrong way down a busy bicycle path in Manhattan near the World Trade Center, killing up to six people and striking numerous others, a New York Police official said.

The driver then exited the vehicle while displaying imitation firearms and was shot by police, according to the NYPD. The suspect is in police custody and was taken to a hospital for treatment, sources at the NYPD said.

The incident is being investigated as terrorism, according to multiple law enforcement sources. Witnesses reported the suspect was yelling "Allahu Akbar," according to four law enforcement sources. The FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force is taking over the lead of the investigation.

President Muhammadu Buhari has hinted that he will soon appoint more ministers into his cabinet and make fresh board appointments in response to his party members’ demands.

Buhari gave hints of the new appointments in a speech delivered on Tuesday to the national executive council of the All Progressives Congress in Abuja.

The President has 36 ministers, with 14 of them being ministers of state. He doubles as the full minister of petroleum.

He said he was working with a trimmed cabinet to avoid waste but said he would be shifting ground soon.

The “compressed federal executive council,” he said, “will be expanded to bring in more supporters at Federal Level, with fresh ideas to be injected into the government”.

Anthony Joshua put on a determined fight as he got the better of Carlos Takam in the most anticipated boxing match of the weekend.

Takam had just 12 days to prepare for the match after initial challenger Kubrat Pulev was forced to pull out with an injured pectoral.

The service is called Amazon Key, and it relies on a Amazon’s new Cloud Cam and compatible smart lock.

The camera is the hub, connected to the internet via your home Wi-Fi. The camera talks to the lock over Zigbee, a wireless protocol utilized by many smart home devices.

When a courier arrives with a package for in-home delivery, they scan the barcode, sending a request to Amazon’s cloud. If everything checks out, the cloud grants permission by sending a message back to the camera, which starts recording.

The courier then gets a prompt on their app, swipes the screen, and voilà, your door unlocks. They drop off the package, relock the door with another swipe, and are on their way.

Porsche said Wednesday it reached a settlement with the teenage daughter of “The Fast and the Furious” star Paul Walker in a wrongful death suit over the actor’s death in a fiery crash.

“The matter was settled in an agreement between the two parties,” a spokesman for the German luxury car maker told AFP without providing any details.

Meadow Walker, now 18, had filed the lawsuit in 2015 alleging safety shortcuts had led to the car accident in California that killed her father two years before.

Walker was in the passenger seat of a 2005 Porche Carrera GT when it slammed into trees and a lamp post in California on November 30, 2013, killing the actor and the driver, his friend and financial adviser, Roger Rodas.

Investigators concluded that Rodas was driving at an unsafe speed, causing it go out of control.

The Nigerian Air Force said on Wednesday that it believed the Mallama Fitdasi, wife of Boko Haram terrorists’ leader, Abubakar Shekau, has been killed.

The Airforce noted that this followed a series of air strikes on a hideout in Durwawa area, Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.

The Nigerian Army has apologized to the family of a commercial motorcyclist, Mr Abubakar Alhaji, who was allegedly beaten to death by Sgt. Taiwo Owoeye in Lagos.

The apology was tendered by the Nigerian Army's counsel, Bola Oyebanji, at the Presidential Panel investigating alleged human rights abuses by the Armed Forces.

Oyebanji said the culprit has been arrested and detained for murder.

He said, “The Nigerian Army has detained Sgt. Owoeye for murder, we find the matter reprehensible and condemnable.

“However, this is a single act which showed that the sergeant was on his own.

“We apologise and sympathise with the family of the deceased.”

Head of the panel, Justice Biobel Goodwill, of the Court of Appeal, also condoled with the brother of the deceased who was present at the hearing.

Goodwill after tendering the apology, told Mr Lucas Koyejo, a counsel for the National Human Rights Commission to follow up with the military trial of Owoeye to ensure that justice was done and to liaise with the victim’s family.

Alhaji’s brother, Mr Salihu Mojahid, in his testimony before the panel, shed light on the series of events leading to his brother’s death.

Mojahid said, “On Feb. 27, my brother called Abubakar Alhaji, a commercial motorcyclist, took a passenger to Maroko Roundabout beside Myhoung Barracks, Yaba, Lagos.

“He parked at the back of a vehicle and unknown to him someone was in the vehicle, the person in the vehicle reversed and bystanders shouted that a commercial motorcyclist is behind him.

“My brother knocked on the car to alert the owner that he parked behind him, the owner of the car came out and he was Sgt. Taiwo Owoeye.

In yet another incident, at least two persons have been electrocuted in the Calabar South area of Cross River after a high-tension cable fell on the roof of a building, housing about nine families.

Southern City News learnt that the incident, which happened at about 8pm on Monday, was the second of such in less than two months.

Eight persons had been killed on April 20, 2017, while several others got injured after a high-tension cable fell on the roof of a football viewing centre.

It was gathered that officials of the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company had kept attempting to rejoin a loosely-knit cable in front of No. 14, Adak Uko Street, in Calabar South.

In the latest incident, two buildings, housing nine families, including two landlords, got burnt, while properties worth millions of naira were destroyed.

Narrating the incident to Southern City News, one of the residents of the building, Mr. Emmanuel Ibanga, said one of the buildings caught fire as soon as the cable landed on the roof.

A 14-year-old schoolboy killed two classmates after pulling out a gun and opening fire during playtime, according to reports.

The boy injured four other students during the shooting at the private Colegio Goyases school in Goiania, central Brazil.

The teenager, who hasn't been named, is believed to have suffered bullying because 'he didn't use deodorant', according to reports.

One student who witnesses the shooting told local TV Anhanguera: 'He just starting shooting at everyone in the class. I held my friend's hand. I didn't know what to do.'

Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha has said that he owes no one an apology for erecting a statue of South Africa's president Jacob Zuma' in Owerri, the State capital.

Over the weekend, Okorocha erected a 250-metre statue of the South African President in Owerri, which received a lot of backlash by Nigerians.
