The Queen may be scaling back her royal duties but it appears the 91-year-old monarch gave her chauffeur the day off, as she was spotted driving her Jaguar back from a Sunday church service. It's her first weekend at Windsor after returning from her summer holidays in Scotland, where she spent three months at her Balmoral residence. The bespectacled sovereign was behind the wheel of the forest green car, a bright blue hat visible atop her head, accompanied by her security guard in the passenger seat. The Queen, who is a fan of driving and who doesn't legally need a license, has been seen on many occasions driving herself down the Long Walk in Windsor Great Park. While she is always chauffeured during royal occasions, the Queen is in fact a capable driver, having learnt to drive while serving as a mechanic in the Women’ s Auxillary Territorial Service during the Second World War. http://www.nigeriannewsweb.com/buhari-asked-us-to-focus-on-northern-nigeria-world-bank/

Atletico Madrid faced Barcelona in a La liga match on Saturday as the two Spanish giants looked to stake their claim at the top of the table. Right from the first kick, Messi was up to his usual tricks and almost grabbed a goal in the first minute after leaving the Atletico defence dazed with a tricky run. Later in the game, Messi was given a taste of his own medicine as Atletico defender got the better of Messi courtesy of a nice dribble. http://www.nigeriannewsweb.com/video-godin-gives-messi-a-taste-of-his-medicine-with-this-dribble/

I remember I would report Olu to my mother and she would say a ‘leaf doesn’t fall far from a tree’ (a Yoruba proverb). "I saw him for the last time last week Sunday when we had lunch; Olu always wanted to please me. "He was supposed to go back to Coventry University last week for his postgraduate studies but he begged me to allow him to stay for just one week because he wanted to commission his petrol station and car wash business. “I begged him to go to school promising him that I would help do everything while http://www.nigeriannewsweb.com/i-begged-dj-olu-to-return-to-school-few-days-before-he-died-father/

Manchester City moved two points clear at the top of the Premier League with a 7-2 thrashing of Stoke City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. Manchester United's 0-0 draw with Liverpool had temporarily lifted them to the summit but City took full advantage of their rivals' dropped points with a rampant display against a dismal Stoke side. Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling and David Silva had them 3-0 up in less than half an hour as a ragged visiting defence made life easy for Pep Guardiola's front three. Stoke did threaten a comeback either side of half-time, with Mame Diouf firing home before his header deflected in off Kyle Walker to make it 3-2, but hope of a shock result did not last long. Jesus scored his second and Leroy Sane his first from two exceptional passes from Kevin De Bruyne, making his 100th appearance for the club, either side of a stunning strike from Fernandinho. http://www.nigeriannewsweb.com/video-ruthless-man-city-defeats-stoke-city-7-2-goals-and-highlights/

Former Minsiter of aviation, Femi Fani Kayode has slammed President Buhari over new revelations by the World bank president over Nigeria. World Bank President, Jim Yong Kim, had on Thursday revealed that Buhari told him to focus on the Northern region of Nigeria. This apparently did not go down well with Femi-Fani Kayode as he took to twitter to berate the President. He wrote, "President of the World Bank, Kim Yong Jim, has said that @MBuhari told him to concentrate their efforts on northern Nigeria. www.nigeriannewsweb.com/world-bank-buhari-sees-southerners-as-slaves-fani-kayode/

World Bank President, Jim Yong Kim has revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari requested that the bank concentrate its effort on the northern region of Nigeria. Kim, who was speaking at a press conferences in Washington DC, United States on Thursday, also advised Buhari to invest in things that would enhance economic growth. Kim said, “You know, in my very first meeting with President Buhari he said specifically that he would like us to shift our focus to the northern region of Nigeria and we’ve done that. Now, it has been very difficult. The work there has been very difficult. “I think Nigeria, of course, has suffered from the dropping oil prices. I think things are just now getting better. But the conversation we need to have with Nigeria, I think, is in many ways related to the theme that I brought to the table just this past week, which is investment in human capital. The percentage of the Gross Domestic Product that Nigeria spends on healthcare is less than one percent.” He added, “Despite that, there is so much turbulence in the northern part of the country, and there is the hit that was taken from the drop in the oil prices. Nigeria has to think ahead and invest in its people. Investing in the things that will allow Nigeria to be a thriving, rapidly growing economy in the future is what the country has to focus on right now.” http://www.nigeriannewsweb.com/buhari-asked-us-to-focus-on-northern-nigeria-world-bank/

In the four-minute freestyle, filmed in a car park in Detroit and titled The Storm, Eminem called out the US president on issues including his behaviour towards North Korea, his support for white supremacists and his penchant for tweeting. Lionel Messi proved to be Argentina's saviour as his stunning hat-trick secured a 3-1 victory over Ecuador and World Cup qualification for Russia 2018. Two-time world champions Argentina were in danger of missing the showpiece tournament for the first time since 1970, having dropped to sixth and outside of the qualifying positions following three consecutive draws. Those fears became real when Ecuador broke the deadlock after just 38 seconds via Romario Ibarra at altitude in Quito on Tuesday. But Argentina – who reportedly hired a sorcerer to help bring good energy to the team with their World Cup hopes on the line – fought back as captain and five-time Ballon d'Or winner Messi singlehandedly booked the country's ticket to Russia next year, becoming the first player to score 20 goals in CONMEBOL qualifying in the process. Harry Kane's injury-time goal guaranteed England's place at the 2018 World Cup, the Tottenham striker earning a 1-0 home win against Slovenia on Thursday. Gareth Southgate's side were already virtually assured of their place in Russia due to a five-point cushion and made certain of their progress thanks to Kane's late impact. The in-form striker had been quiet throughout a listless Three Lions performance but nudged home Kyle Walker's low cross to break the deadlock in the third minute of added time. An American twitter user, Sean Murphy has said that it is easier for a dog in the United States to get treatment than for a human being in Nigeria to get treatment. Murphy stated this in a tweet that has generated widespread controversy. He wrote, "So a dog with lymphoma in Miami has a better chance of getting treatment than a woman with a brain tumor in Lagos. Shame!" He had earlier written about the linear accelerator, a machine that treats cancer saying that Nigeria has only 18, 11 of which are broken while the US has... Pictures of the Canadian model, Catt Gallinger often showed her sporting purple hair or purple lipstick, or the purple tinge of her numerous tattoos peeking out from beneath a tank top. So when the already heavily inked Ottawa resident had the opportunity to “tattoo” her eyeball — a procedure called sclera staining, in which ink is injected into the white part of the eye — she chose the color purple. Sclera staining can result in a startling tint of the eye, a visual effect that has gained popularity recently among those who practice extreme body modification. But for Gallinger, something went horribly wrong. The day of the procedure, purple ink oozed out of her eye and trickled down her cheek. Former first lady of Nigeria, Patience Jonathan has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to call acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, to order. Patience has accused Magu of trying to destroy her family by targeting her for the role she played in the 2015 election. Jonathan’s wife was actively involved in the reelection bid of her husband. She toured the length and breadth of the country, campaigning for him. In a statement on Monday, Belema Meshack-Hart, chief press secretary to the former first lady, said despite campaigning against him in the presidential election, President Donald Trump did not move against Michelle Obama. “We believe that she is being systematically persecuted and punished because of her unflinching support for her husband during the 2015 elections,” the statement read. “President Buhari should be reminded that his wife also supported him in all the elections he contested against her husband, former President Jonathan, but Dr. Jonathan did not at any... http://www.nigeriannewsweb.com/tell-efcc-to-leave-me-alone-patience-jonathan-tells-buhari/

Nacho Monreal and Alex Iwobi stretched Arsenal's winning run to four consecutive games in all competitions as Alexis Sanchez dazzled in a 2-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion. Monreal's opening goal arrived after Alexandre Lacazette was denied by the post during the early stages for Arsene Wenger's side, although Solly March was similarly close to a Brighton equaliser before half-time. Manchester United's Anthony Martial has been in sublime form this season and he seems to have grown in confidence in these past weeks. This is backed up by his performance this season, having scored in three different games in three different competitions prior to Man Utd's game against Crystal palace. Martial came on as a substitute for Marcus Rashford and one of his first touches was a sublime touch that left the stadium wowed. Receiving the ball out wide, Martial waited patiently for the onrushing Townsend before calmly slotting the ball between the winger's leg and carrying on. Townsend's reaction afterwards and the stadium's reaction added a glossy effect to the brilliant piece of skill. Kevin De Bruyne scored the only goal in sublime fashion as Manchester City returned to the top of the Premier League with a deserved 1-0 win over champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Pep Guardiola's side made it eight consecutive wins in all competitions and dominated for long periods against Chelsea, whose limited attacking intent was further compromised by top scorer Alvaro Morata limping off in the 35th minute with an apparent left hamstring injury. An exemplary showing from the home defence, in which Andreas Christensen was outstanding, meant City struggled for a regular flow of clear-cut chances despite their superiority. That was until De Bruyne seized the moment, something his game-breaking goal against Shakhtar Donetsk in midweek demonstrated he is increasingly adept at doing. Harry Kane ended his free-scoring September in fitting fashion as his brace helped Tottenham to a 4-0 Premier League win over Huddersfield Town. The England striker has been sensational since the turn of the month and went into Saturday's contest at the John Smith's Stadium with 11 goals in September, including five in the last two games, and he wasted little time in adding to that number. He pounced on a defensive lapse to open the scoring inside 10 minutes and, after Ben Davies had capitalised on further poor work at the back to make it 2-0, Kane found the net for the 13th time this month to put the game well beyond doubt just 23 minutes in. A stunning bending effort from the edge of the area made it 3-0, Kane's tally for September matching the best totals of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in a calendar month.
