Former military president of Nigeria, Ibrahim Babangida, popularly referred to as IBB, has said that people have refused to hear his own side of the June 12, 1993, Presidential election saga.

General Babangida was widely criticized by Nigerians for annulling the June 12, 1993 Presidential election adjudged as the most credible election in the history of Nigeria.

The former military leader noted that he does not get the credit for conducting the 'freest election in Nigeria"

When asked to explain further if it was true that people dismissed his words because of the annulment of June 12 election, he said,

“That is right. They say, ‘he cancelled the freest election in the history but he annulled it’ but nobody gives me credit for conducting the freest election in the country.”

The former ruler said he was hopeful that the younger generation would understand why he annulled the election.

He added, “We try to rationalise why we did what we did but nobody is prepared to listen to us. So, it is a matter of time. One day, the younger generation will say they have heard one side and want to hear the other side of the story.

“Maybe by then we will have a better society that is prepared; that is well-informed of what happened within a period of their existence. They will then be able to say this is the true story.”

Babangida said no one had ever reflected the fact that he and the acclaimed winner of the election, MKO Abiola, were friends before and after the annulment.

When asked if he would publish his biography, he said, “I don’t know. People may not read it because it is coming from a dictator. A lot will say ‘he is the one who cancelled June 12 and that will kill everything that I have to talk about.

President Muhammadu Buhari is currently presenting the 2019 budget proposal to a joint session of the National Assembly in Abuja.

Buhari arrived the national Assembly complex and was greeted to loud cheers as he entered the complex.

Some lawmakers were heard chanting "Sai Baba! Sai Baba!! as the President made his way into the hallowed chambers.

Alex Badeh (1957-2018): The Man Who Flew Two Former US Presidents And Received A Recognition From Koffi Anan

Alex Sabundu Badeh, born January 10, 1957, was a retired four star flag officer of the Nigerian Air force who served as the 18th Chief of Air Staff (October 4, 2012 – January 16, 2014).

He was the 15th Chief of Defence Staff of the armed forces of Nigeria (January 16, 2014 to July 13, 2015).

Badeh was born in Vimtim, Mubi Local Government Area of Adamawa State, North East Nigeria into a family of peasant farmers.

He attended Vimtim Primary School, Vimtim and went on to obtain his school certificate from Villanova Secondary School in 1976 before proceeding to the Nigerian Defence Academy

Alex Badeh was admitted into the Nigerian Defence Academy as a member of the 21 Regular Course on 3 January 1977, and was commissioned Pilot Officer on 3 July 1979. He commenced his flying career at the 301 Flying Training School on the Bulldog Primary Trainer aircraft in 1979.

He holds an M.Sc. degree in Strategic Studies from the University of Ibadan.

Air Marshal Badeh was promoted Air Vice Marshal on 3 January 2008.

Badeh was Commander of the Presidential Fleet, during the Olusegun Obasanjo's presidency. The Presidential Fleet Crew flew around the world frequently and by 2002, Badeh logged over 6000 flying hours shuttling VIPs, dignitaries, top government officials and Heads of State.

He was given the green light to fly former United States Presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter on different occasions after extensive check was done by the United States Secret Service.

Badeh’s professional dexterity on duty earned him commendation and an autographed pen from Koffi Anan and the then UN Secretary after flying him to an official trip.

Reno Omokri, a media aide of former President Goodluck Jonathan, has suggested that the government of the day might have a hand in the death of Air Marshall Alex Badeh.

Badeh, a former chief of defense staff, was reportedly shot dead on his way to Abuja by unknown gunmen on Tuesday.

Omokri, who is a vocal critic of President Muhammadu Buhari, has however suggested that the Buhari government might be responsible for the murder of Badeh.

The Super Falcons of Nigeria have emerged as the winner of the 2018 African Women cup of Nations after defeating South Africa 4-3 on penalties.

The match, which lived up to its billing, saw the two teams play 120 minutes without scoring a goal.

The match then went to penalties as the Falcons lost their first spot-kick with the Bayana Bayana scoring their first penalty to send the fans into a frenzy.

The presidency has denied reports making the round that Vice-president Yemi Osinbajo and minister of transportation met with ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday.

It was a dominant display for the Super Falcons of Nigeria as they made light work of Zambia, beating their opponents 5-0 in their African Women Cup of Nations in Ghana.

Zambia had won their opening game by humiliating Equatorial Guinea 5-0 in their opening game while the Falcons lost their opening game by a 1-0 margin to South Africa.

The Zambian goalie was however helpless as Nigeria doubled their lead courtesy of a fine curling ball by Ordega after Oparanozie had hit the post with her shot.

Youngster, Rasheedat Ajibade was introduced for the Falcons and got the third goal in stunning fashion. Her shot from inside the box bounced off the bar and into the post.

Amarachi Okoronkwo got the last goal of the game which also proved to be the last kick of the game.

Nigerian fans were least impressed with Leicester City's Kelechi Iheanacho following what was perceived as a poor outing for him in the game against South Africa.

Senate president, Bukola Saraki has revealed how he was abandoned by President Muhammadu Buhari after he helped the president to victory in 2015.

The head of the Senate was one of the high profile members who dumped the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) this year in a sweeping move.

In an audio released online, Saraki can be heard addressing his supporters in Yoruba language in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.

The country's number three man lamented the 'unfair' treatment meted to him by Buhari despite the huge amount of money he spent before the 2015 election.

"It is difficult for us to go out and market this present government because the people we are marketing to would ask us if we have benefited anything from this government.

"Use me as an example, between 2014 and 2015, I left PDP and joined APC, putting APC matters as top priority. We went round almost all the states in Nigeria, campaigning for Buhari.

"From Tuesday to Thursday leading to the election on Saturday (in 2015), out of 36 states, i paid for Buhari's election in 30 states. I gave some states N300 million, some N400 million, others N200 million."

"It was only the 6 states in the Southwest that i didn't give money. I did all these through my phone, calling the bank to disburse the money to the different states.

"I thought after doing all these and Buhari gets elected, when it is time for (federal) appointments, I would be given some slots so I can input my people (from Kwara) as MDs of agencies.

According to inside reports, Liverpool have agreed a world record fee with Roma for the transfer of goalkeeper, Alisson Becker to the Reds

A deal between Liverpool and Roma for Brazil international has seen Liverpool given the permission to hold talks with the shot-stopper.

President Muhammadu Buhari has called on Senators of the Federal republic of Nigeria to put national interest first as the 2019 election draws nearer.

Buhari advised the Senators to withdraw the new projects that they inserted in the 2018 budget and instead use the money towards the successful conduct of the 2019 elections.

The President stated this in a letter he sent to the Senate containing details of the budget for the 2019 election.

In the letter read by Senate president, Bukola Saraki on Tuesday, it was revealed that 189 billion has been allocated for INEC while 52 billion has been ear-marked for the police, Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies.

It would be recalled that Buhari, during the signing of the 2018 budget, slammed the Senators for adding new projects to the 2018 budget.

The President has now called on the Senators to use funds allocated for such projects to fund the 2019 election budget.

"The total amount required to be provided for in the 2018 budget for the 2019 general election and to restore the identified critical projects to the amount earlier proposed is therefore N228,854, 800, 250,” the letter read.

“Implementing a budget of N9.12 trillion for 2018 is extremely challenging and therefore, I do not consider it expedient to propose a further increase.

Nigerian striker, Taiwo Awoniyi has signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool football club as he hopes to build on the form of last season.

The young striker has pledged to build on his recent progress in the coming season as he chases regular playing time.

Three years on from joining the Reds, the striker put pen to paper on a fresh deal at Melwood on Tuesday having returned from a productive year with Royal Excel Mouscron.

Manchester City have completed the signing of Riyad Mahrez from Leicester city on a five year deal that would see the winger finally make a move to the Etihad.

The 27-year-old has signed a five-year contract and has opted to take the number 26 shirt.

A title winner with Leicester in 2016, Mahrez says he can’t wait to get started at City, a Club he feels offers him both a chance to win silverware and an environment in which he can improve his own game.

Cristiano Ronaldo has finally moved from Real Madrid to Juventus, bring his nine years stint at the Spanish capital to an end.

The move was announced on Tuesday as the five time Balon d'or winner vacates the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu to team up with the Old Lady.

On a fee expected to amount to 105 million euros, the 33-year-old leaves having hit a staggering 451 goals in 438 games, lifting four Champions League titles, three LaLiga crowns, and many more.

All is now set for Cristiano Ronaldo to move to Juventus as Real Madrid have agreed a transfer with the Italian champions, Marca reports.
