NYCnextStop:ISPON GHSE and Novelle GHSE are both basic HSE Appreciation Courses. There are a lot of similarities in them in the sense that they allow you appreciate basic concepts of hazards, risks, unsafe acts and unsafe conditions, etc. These are fundamental information/principles in HSE STEM for those starting out in the Discipline. The difference is that given the status quo and based on your level of education the ISPON Program will lead you into becoming a Member of ISPON. Note that Professional Membership is different from Knowledge/Skill Certification. Doing GHSE and HSE L 1 ,2 & 3 will give you the certificate. However, it does not automatically make you a professional member. For ISPON the last time I checked, they insist on their own version of GHSE and Level 1,2 &3 as the pathway to becoming a professional member and you have to have done it with any of their State Branches. Long story short, they are both almost the same, but ISPON's will be a step closer towards getting Professional Membership with the body. |

Usually I avoid celebrity threads and topics. Most often, the level of ignorance displayed there is quite deep. But how can someone be so confident in Ignorance, very faulty premise and a highly fallacious conclusion? What is hilarious and funny to me (and slightly bothers me) is that some ladies may listen to people like this. |

Juwon21:Please read this up. NEBOSH has a website. The first thing to do is to consult their website. No other place in the universe can give you the most updated information than their website. https://www.nebosh.org.uk/qualifications/igc2014specification/ |
mayemaye:It has been a real challenge for the likes of us who did not study a Course tagged "Engineering'' in our first Degree but went on overseas to study an Msc. in Engineering. As it Stands I have a Masters in Safety Engineering and have practiced Safety Engineering for years now but COREN has still not changed its rules to the 21st Century where paper qualification does not imply application of proper skill and knowledge. I am hoping that they realize soon enough that one does not need to necessarily spend 100 years at the first degree level in a discipline tagged ''Engineering'' before having the knowledge of applying physical science principles to the design of structures, products and systems to the taste, comfort and benefit of mankind. |
Loris576:Kindly be inquisitive enough to visit this website for full details about ISPON Sir/Madam. https://ispon.gov.ng/ There you will find further information on the levels of training and contact persons for each State/Chapter. Good luck. |
BenDanor:Professional Qualifications are an added advantage. HSE Qualification is one of such professional qualifications that will do you a lot of good. The Oil and Gas Industry is very risky and HSE STEM is taken seriously in the industry. So, it is an added advantage. There are steps to follow which have been enumerated in previous pages. There are various levels of qualification and certification based on diverse competencies in the discipline. You will have to start from the basics and then choose how far/deep and what area you will love to specialize in. HSE STEM is not limited to engineers. It is just that due to the dealing with physical phenomena, it is added advantage to understand basic or fundamental natural sciences. Being tall is only an advantage in basket ball. It does not mean short people do not play or cannot play. Engineering is simply manipulating the laws of physical sciences to serve a beneficial (or harmful) purpose of man. Hence what they have fundamentally the ability to manipulate physical principles. If you understand basic Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Math, then you can go as deep as you want in the profession. TAKE A LOOK AT THIS MATERIAL FOR INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE, Which is a sub component of HSE STEM. To go this deep you will need knowledge of basic natural sciences. https://www.michsafetyconference.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/IH-Tues-1015-am-IH-Fundamentals.pdf |
Loris576:Absolutely no problem. They feel based on your current level of qualification, you do not need to start from Level 1 (the Basics). To the best of my understanding, a Graduate is supposed to do General HSE and then move straight ahead to HSE Level 3. Gladly take the opportunity and complete the course. Then apply for professional membership. Ensure you got information from ispon.gov.ng. Remember there are factions. I advice you work with the ones that the government has allowed to use the .gov.ng. domain extension. Even though this is still a risk due to the never ending court cases. |

FIX YOUR EDUCATION SYSTEM - ESPECIALLY THE POOR HUMAN RESOURCES IN THESE TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS It is only going to get worse. As these institutions in Nigeria collapse and more people can afford sending their kids overseas, more Nigerians will send money away from the country, investing in other countries' education sector. Germany today is heavily advertising. Canada is doing the same on YouTube calling for international students. UK and US have both been benefiting. Even Ghana is doing so. By the adverts something tells you they are targeting Nigerians. When will foreigners leave their country and come to a Nigerian school as international students? While it is a cause for concern, anyone who can afford it and desires it should send their kids overseas for higher education. Despite the limited infrastructure, it would still have been manageable if we had friendly, efficient academic and non-academic staff willing to manage and make use of the limited resources to better the lives of those they come across. To teach, educate and eventually empower. But no, we had to have demoniacs there. Besides poor infrastructural development, and little or no equipment to promote learning in these modern times, there is untold human wickedness by Academic and Non-Academic Staff in Nigerian Universities. This is the biggest issue unspoken about. These persons are generally wicked. It was not these kids that made your lives miserable. The students are not the Government who pay you poor salaries. You Academic and Non-academic staff are not the only ones with problems and poor pay. Even the staff of Total Exploration and Production would like their salaries increased. I understand the part of infrastructural development and the lack of teaching aids and equipment. However, this is one just one part. The Human Wickedness in these institutions is just alarming and a thing of greater/bigger concern to me. They are rude, disrespectful, wicked, act like gods that must not be questioned, jealous if they think you are doing better or know better, extortionists, very poor researchers, ignorant, haughty, vengeful for no reason, sexual predators, deviants and rapists. They form cliques and cells like the mafiaso to punish unwilling female and male students, etc. I mean name it. They lack academic discipline. Most of them will force students to write research papers etc. and then publish it in their own name. All these happen because there are no consequences. You claim to be an intellectual but fight against any form of discussions or arguments on academics? Who says you must be more informed that your student in all matters? Try collecting your transcript, certificate or having such business with your school in Nigeria. That is when you will know that evil exists in these institutions. Be a pretty girl in school, that is when you will know that Satan replicated and multiplied himself in form of lecturers. From the day of getting admission till the day you leave school these persons make life a living hell for you. From course registration at Registrars office, to faculty registration, to departmental registration, to student affairs, to medical services registration, to library to hostel registration, the personnel in these areas are there to make life hell for you. My observations reveal that while infrastructure might be a problem, the impacts from the terrible Human Resources we have in these institutions play a more damaging role bringing about sad and bitter tales. An institution where ineptitude exists, yet they are supposed to educate people/students on how to apply knowledge in an effective and efficient manner to create value for themselves and the society? How can these people give what they absolutely lack? Universities have Spatial and Urban Planning courses, but cannot even plan their own environment. They have courses in Environmental Management, Science, Engineering and Technology but have the filthiest environments. They teach Public health but have filthy bio-hazardous hostels. Take a look at NOUN in Victoria Island. They form a cartel with the business center and fight and clamor for prospective students and they send you to put docents in files in triplicates. They sell these files at very exorbitant prices and then end up giving you these files back. They never tell you the complete set of documents to print, only for you to get there and then they print an admission email for 500 naira per page! Criminality, racketeering in an academic institution. I dare journalist to be more investigative and verify these things. BBC, Aljazeera and other national media houses should investigate the rot in these institutions. There is hardly any regulation of their conduct. A huge percentage of lecturers should either have been sacked or should be in jail by now. I am not saying that life should be stress free. Far from it. Such a society does not exist. However, intentionally introducing stress and troubles and problems for no just cause which psychologically scars and ruins a student is what no one should accept. A school of thought says the stress and wickedness from these very poor, inefficient and simply put, demonic human resources we find in these institutions is a good thing because the society you are expected to graduate and function in (Nigeria), is also a mad society. It takes no prisoners. Hence these ills you see in the Universities and other tertiary institutions are preparing you for the mad society you are about to be cast into. While we work to put this sector of the country in order, I will advise any Nigerian today to send their kids abroad if they have the means. Worst case scenario is they should attend Nigerian Private University and then travel overseas for post graduate studies. |
This agency should be merged with the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) and that so called DPR needs to be upgraded to a proper Commission. The NNPC should be removed from the Ministry of Petroleum Resources and be made into a full business entity subject to every regulation in the country. It should not be protected as if it is a regulatory agency. And it needs to stop acting as if it is above the law. NNPC is a business and should be treated as such. By now that agency should be selling shares to the public. Some proportion of its equity. We should try as much as possible to have a single strong regulatory agency for the oil and gas industry. A single strong, versatile and vibrant Commission/Agency. Such an agency must be versatile enough to regulate while also ensuring that opportunities are created for business and investment so that local industry and investors can utilize these benefits to create value for the country. Every organization/MDA in Nigeria is trying to claim relevance. Especially the ones that fear the merger or scrapping. This is the same thing you see with Civil Defense trying to avoid being merged with the Police. These agencies are all afraid of the proposed merger and scrapping which will affect many MDAs. Hence they are all struggling to claim they are performing one special function. They even go as far as sponsoring labor organizations to take their sides. They are also lobbying the legislature to be on their side. This is the same thing with NOSDRA who is supposed to handle only Tier 3 Spills. But is today uselessly fighting even its parent Ministry (Ministry of Environment) for relevance. It goes beyond its mandate in many cases. Constantly tries to malign other agencies in the media with ignorant and unverified claims and in a shameless and clandestine manner, proposes bills to take over everything concerning environmental protection in the oil and gas industry. An organisation that was erroneously established which should have no function until their is a National Oil Spill. By their name they are to Detect and Respond to National Oil Spills and not regulate. But they have gone beyond this mandate. The question is that these agencies were created without thought with duplicity of function, making the oil and gas industry groan under this weight of regulatory burden. The shocking thing is that with all these agencies in Nigeria, the country is still lacking adequate regulatory enforcement. The masses still suffer from unwholesome practices. The PPPRA should be merged with the Department of Petroleum Resources, including PEF, etc. All regulators in the Ministry of Petroleum Resources should be merged with the DPR. As for the NNRA, why are they only focused on Oil ad Gas? Cede the full regulation of radiation activities in the oil and gas industry to the DPR like the aspect of HSE, while the NNRA Focuses on other industries/sectors. The DPR should then have its name changed to a commission of sort. Nigerian Oil and Gas Regulatory Commission/Nigerian Petroleum Regulatory Commission/Nigerian Hydrocarbons Regulatory Commission. The price control function can be performed by the DPR. Firstly, let the prices be established by commerce in the free market. Equip Depot owners and marketers to be able to import the product while we work out our refining capacity problems. In such a situation prices will shift to maintain the balance between supply and demand. The new DPR should then ensure that no marketer hoards the product. Serious surveillance, which is also part of their function anyway. Let there be no artificial scarcity and let there be no diversion. When this is done, demand and supply will continue to determine market value. Price Control which the PPPRA is stylishly doing cannot be a long term thing because in the long run it will eventually lead to shortages, rationing, inferior product quality, and black markets. Various countries that have attempted fixing gasoline prices have recorded these disadvantages. The Stephen Oransanye Report still needs to be critically looked at. Critically. Then these duplication of functions needs to be adequately addressed. It will reduce cost of Governance and allow Nigerians benefit from proper regulation which sets out to protect them from unwholesome practices. https://www.lawyard.ng/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Steve-Oronsaye-Report.pdf |

This is part of the fundamental principle of Managing HSE) http://iosrjournals.org/iosr-jestft/papers/vol9-issue8/Version-1/N09819194.pdf Note a fundamental area of improvement in the paper. I realized that in risk assessment part of the paper (Assessing Associated Risks) they only mentioned risk analyses, without directly mentioning ''Risk Evaluation''. Note that the risk assessment comprises of Risk Analyses and Risk Evaluation. HSE Risk evaluation is a critical component of the HSE Risk Management Process. Assessment tells you how the hazard or risk poses a threat (the pathways), while evaluation allows you to know if such risk is acceptable.Risk evaluation allows you to determine the significance of risks to the facility then to decide whether to accept a specific risk or take action to prevent or minimize it. Therefore, to EVALUATE HSE risks, it is worthwhile ranking them once identified. This can be done by considering the consequence and probability of each risk. Simply put: In any inspection/official review workshop/setting -identify the hazards -assess these hazards to establish the risk (analyses and evaluation) -propose mitigation/control measures - review the level of risk now if it is acceptable, if it is not go back a propose more measures -implement these measures -monitor and audit the performance of these measures -continuously improve 9. Juwon21:There training schools that offer such courses in Nigeria. There are even some polytechnics and institutes that also offer specialized training. PTI Warri for instance offers good training. For those in Process Safety Instrumentation and Control, there are training schools in Lagos that offer these trainings as well. There are very many training schools accredited by DPR, ISPON, Nationwide to offer oil and gas specialized training as well. Unfortunately, I will not recommend any. I will ask you to search online. Do your due diligence. Ensure they are certified and then discuss with them before paying for these courses. 1. Ensure they have been accredited by the Standards board, or examination board to offer such training; 2. Ensure they are accredited and recognized by DPR (Licensing of ALL Oil and Gas Trainers), OGTAN (Oil and Gas Trainers Association of Nigeria-not compulsory though), ISPON (All/General HSE Trainers for all industries in Nigeria); 3. Price of their training compared to other accredited trainers. Verify these three things above. I AM really sorry gentlemen, that I will not be able to mention the name of any trainer. I wont be able to recommend any. Apologies. You will have to search e.g. online, new paper adds, etc for these trainers then verify on your own. |
Dee91:HSE LEVEL 1, 2 & 3 OUTSIDE ISPON: Remember that you have to have undergone ISPON's HSE Levels G, 1, 2 and 3 with ISPON before you can apply for professional membership with ISPON. ISPON is a professional body that also offers training. If you do not want to be a member of ISPON, then you can settle for the Novelle HSE Level 1, 2 and 3. But if you want to be a Certified member of ISPON, you have to pass through their own basic level training. Now, remember that if Nigeria was to be a serious country you wont even be allowed to practice without being a member of ISPON. Note that having level 1,2, 3 certification from ISPON does not make you a member. It is only a compulsory prerequisite that you do this training with them, before you can apply for professional membership. Training Certification and Membership Certification are two different things. In my experience, most employers do not bother asking HSE Professionals if they are Certified Members of ISPON. They only ask for HSE Levels 1, 2 and 3 Certificates. Some companies however insist that such certificates must come from ISPON. Majority do not bother about professional membership like I earlier hinted. Unfortunately I cannot speak for this companies. You may have to try a few times or asked people who have gone for interviews. Get their experiences and make a decision on this. Once again, should you want to become a professional member of ISPON, then you have to go back for their own training. However, you can call them to verify this. WHAT NEXT AFTER APPROPRIATE CERTIFICATION: You have to look for a way to build experience. You have to find a place to practice. You need to. Either in consulting capacity or simple office assistant capacity. Experience comes from practice. If you are very good with the course and you really know how to apply the knowledge and skill, you can write to some companies to allow you practice with them. Or look for HSE Consulting firms in Ogun State and discuss with them about how you can come in and sharpen you skillset and knowledge. You may also consider doing NEBOSH while you wait, should you have the means. WHERE TO START-FOOD OR OIL & GAS: I will advice you to start with the first one that comes your way. Get the most experience you can, apply to all of them, then start with the one that comes first. HSE Personnel are usually found in the Depots, Terminal and bigger facilities like lube blending plants and so on. They are hardly found in Petrol Stations. Though DPR Might change this soon and mandate all petrol stations to have HSE Personnel. So around you, Oil and Gas might be a little scarce. For Oil and Gas you will mainly look at Lagos, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross Rivers. Cast your bread upon many waters. Cast a dragnet. If you get more than one offer at a time then come here and we will be able to guide you on the best option. Long story short, Apply for ALL that you can apply for. Create CVs for both industries. Submit same and see which one comes first. Infact if you get invited, then come here and we will help you prepare for the interview. |
Do you do only frames, or do you have the ability of printing digitally and framing? I have some stock photos that I would love to digitally print out and frame. These photos have to do with my business and some of my mentors One is a combination of photos little photos like a Vision Board of Sorts. |
This is quite impressive. Both in Features/Capability and in Price. |
Adexmerry:You will have to define validity for us to understand where you are coming from. You will also have to tell us how far you have come with respect to experience and certification in HSE Sciences, Technology, Engineering and Management to allow us know where you are. You will also need to tell us what you need the certification for, to enable us know where you are heading to. Note that CIEHS is just a State Board in the USA. Its certificate might not even be recognized by other States in the USA. It is mainly for the State of Nevada. So CIEHS is the NEBOSH for Nevada. America believes more in State and Regional bodies than in Federal/National. If you want to practice in a State or Region, they believe their own situation is special/peculiar and you must have to understand their own system before you practice. This is common with many other fields in the USA. I want to believe you are talking about if CIEHS is recognized in Nigeria, I guess? The truth is, it is not very recognized in Nigeria when compared to ISPON and NEBOSH. That is not to say you cannot put it on your CV. You can include it in your CV and you will benefit from the skills and knowledge you will gather from the training. A lot of employers do not even have the skill and faint idea of how to rate/score a certificate presented by an intending employee/Applicant. So you can include it. However, a big company, with a serious and skilled HSE Unit will naturally ask for your (1) ISPON (2) NEBOSH and then ANY OTHER(S). My big bosses here and myself have constantly advised in this topic that a particular line/step should be followed. I will state it again. Every young graduate should please note my advice. It is not compulsory you follow it. You can do what works for you. 1. NISP/ISPON: We have constantly advised that ISPON is the nationally recognized HSE Professional Body in Nigeria. It is just like NSE/COREN, NES, ICAN, etc.. Even though we personally do not like the childishness they are displaying with respect to their power tussle within the body. And I have personally continued to call for another body (A HSE Certification Board) which will come up with a better standard exam and certification process. Their members have invaded this thread to bring their bickering here as well. This is why I have ignored their posts filled with sweeping generalizations and childish claims. However it does not change the fact that they are the legally recognized professional body for the HSE Profession in Nigeria. All graduates are STRONGLY advised to attend General HSE and HSE Levels 2 and 3. Graduates are currently advised to visit the ispon.gov.ng site and find out the contact details there. Call them. Discuss with them for better information. I am not a member of the ISPON Exco, etc. The most valid and credible information can be acquired directly from their contact persons on their website. 2. NEBOSH IGC: After ISPON, we have always advised that you go for NEBOSH. There is a statement I make that annoys the ISPON Guys and I will make it again. In my opinion, THE NEBOSH IGC CURRICULUM IS MORE ROBUST THAN ISPON (G,1,2,3). Hence in my opinion I see ISPON as Mock Exam for NEBOSH. It is one of the reasons why I advise graduates to first get ISPON done before attempting NEBOSH. NEBOSH is also internationally recognized. ISPON IS NOT. The recognition is especially so in commonwealth countries. It is recognized in Africa, in the Middle East, Australia and some European Countries. It is also well respected in Nigeria. Very respected. A company Like Total E&P/TEPNG/TUPNI etc. might not even give you a second look if you do not have NEBOSH IGC. However, this exam is expensive to Nigerians, so you will have to do little stuff (work, business, use a skill to get money, etc.) to raise the funds, in a case where you are not very buoyant and have no parents, guardians, etc sponsoring you. 3. Other Specialized Training: After your ISPON and NEBOSH IGC, you can then decide to specialize in an area based on your SKILLS/BIASES or on the INDUSTRY you want to focus on. I usually advise this because the world of HSE STEM is broad. Very broad. After the general knowledge it is good to have a specific skill. The general principles usually apply to all aspects. But the way and manner they are applied varies from situation to situation. Areas to specialize on include Asset Integrity, Process Hazard Analyses, Consequence Modelling, etc. You can also specialize in various industries e.g. Aviation, Nuclear, Oil and Gas/Petroleum/Hydrocarbons (my area), Road/Rail Transportation, Marine, Industrial, etc. You can choose various OSHA training, etc. 4. Training on Certification of Skills in Standards: After your NEBOSH and specialization, you can You should then focus on training on specific standards that GENERALLY Apply to your area of specialization or to the industry you work in. You can then do training that also SPECIFICALLY apply to your area of specialization or the industry you have found yourself. e.g. You can have certified training to show skills and competence in ISO 31000, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 9000, API RP 75, IEC 61508, IEC 6511, etc. 5. Further General and Specialized Training: After ISPON, NEBOSH, Specialized, Standards Certifications, you may then decide to do other further training. TRAINING/LEARNING AND SKILL ACQUISITION NEVER ENDS. NEVER. There are refreshers you have to take. You have to always read on your own. You can also decide to do advanced studies like NEBOHS IDip or any other Diploma (Post Graduate, etc), BSc., MSc., etc. in the STEM of Public and Occupational Health, Safety, Security, Environment, Community Affairs and Quality. Again, it is worthy to point out that you MUST NOT follow these steps as they have been presented here. It is only advisable to do so. Some people start with 1 (ISPON), then jump to 5 (MSc./Diploma) then go back to 2 (NEBOSH), then hit 3 (Area of Specialization) and 4 (Certification on Standards). So it depends on how it favors and soothes you. |
PoliticallyInco:Hahaha...THIS IS EVEN TOY. Some men are mad. Men dey even sneak out of the room where there wives sleep & take the risk to sleep with their maids or with the relatives of the wives in the same house. Men even stylishly squeeze boobs & touch bodies of these ladies when their wives are at home. This has happened again & again & again that we hv seen & heard & read. You will ask yourself what will make a man wake up at night & sneak out to another room, when his wife can easily wake up to look for him? What will make a man sneak back home from work when his wife goes out. Once the man losses the initial fear he will boldly do anything. There exist men who are'nt afraid. I want believe men are just drawn to the risk & excitement. It boosts their ego & primal male instinct to ''hunt & kill''. |

Lesgupnigeria:Great response Sir, as always. I fully understand the need for being mobile and how it is important part of the logistics in the business. I am assuming that your workers stay on the farm or close by at least? Or how did the lock down affect them? How did it affect other supplies like fertilizers and other stuff you might have required for the daily running of the farm. Consumables, I am talking about.? It is a good thing that non perishables and cash crops were not adversely affected that much. The effects obviously would have been more if the lock-down had been extended. |
