Ksslib: It has alot to do with the accent. Many Nigerian gurus in physics have/are still pronouncing it that way and no one laughs at them. I do watch lots of physics documentaries, and even scientists who are not of UK origin/didnt grow up there pronounce it slightly diff from the way the Brits do. Even the US pronounciation has a slight variation from the british. I am not studying English plus even those who do wont look it as that much big of deal when a core Nigerian pronounces it.
