airsaylongcome: And when something else more lucrative comes around they’d all join the bandwagon, drop programming and probably go and learn that. If money is anyone’s first passion, I stay away from advising them. It’s not a bad thing to be driven by “money”, I’m just not your guy for advise and encouragement. Helps me filter out a lot of people and keep a small close group of those I advise Sadly, that's the dilemma. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: North Korea Confirms First COVID-19 Case, Orders National Lockdown by The5DME(m): 9:54am On May 12, 2022 |
airsaylongcome: I’ve gotten my answer. I don't really understand why you tend to admonish people for choosing to learn how to code, due to it being lucrative. Not everyone had the opportunity to be birthed into a home, where they had access to computers at a very young age, and as such; would've probably been doing coding solely for the fun of it. I can certainly guarantee you that anyone above 19, learning how to code in this Nigeria, is definitely not doing it just for "passion's" sake. Heck, even people in developed countries, who have better access to cheap internet and all, don't learn to code for fun. People should learn to code, only if they're sure they can be dedicated to it. Because trust me, coding is very difficult. The reality is different from how it's been portrayed on Nairaland. It's really difficult to learn, not easy for a beginner to get a job, and as a poor Nigerian learning how to code; you'll have to overcome a lot of challenges. I doubt this things are told to these people who just want to "learn how to code". I know you're a strong proponent of "do it for the passion", but in this Nigeria, where there's rife poverty and hunger, coupled with massive employment and under-employment, people should do whatever they can't to earn a meaningful living. But coding hard sha. |

pansophist: Your parents are desperately hoping that you rescue them from chaos. They won't tell you directly because it will signify failure on their own part since they probably failed to rescue their own parents as well. As they grow older, their most desired wishes would be for you to take care of them as they've done to you at the very least, but it far transcends that. It is to build upon what they've built and carry the responsibility to strengthen the family and resurrect them from struggles that they couldn't defeat. The more successful and sophisticated a person you become, the happier they will be since their fulfillment is tied to your success. Don't disappoint them. I really do not subscribe to this idea of not disappointing one's parents by being successful. Our parents had their own lives, and it's not my fault some of them failed to make something out of their life. But I can't live with the expectation of making my parents happy. Let me live my life how I can, and if I'm successful with the way I lived; then so be it. This is just my own perspective sha. |

Good morning everyone. Due to the recent strike by ASUU, I've been thinking of applying to NOUN. But my main issues are: I've always wanted to experience campus life, and go far away from home, which is why I applied for a school in a very distant place from the state I reside. Can anyone chime in some useful suggestions? This strike is not helping matters. 3 extra months has been added to it. |

lightdream: I just bought Airtel WiFi and works perfectly, it came with 5GB though I missed the promo price. It was my best decision since spectranet don't have full coverage here. How much did you get it for? |
Phones › Re: Important!! Don't Buy The Airtel Smartbox Router Or Mifi by The5DME(m): 10:14am On May 08, 2022 |
TheOldGods: you can buy it. The only Disadvantage Airtel has is you can't share your data. Because I wanted to buy a mifi cause I use their router, and I do about 200-300gb monthly, and I can't sub two devices, I contacted them to share my data to my mifi and they can't. This is something Glo network does with ease. If Glo was very fast in my area, I would have gone for Glo because of the ecosystem. Once you have a Glo you can share unlimited Buying it is not even an issue for me. What I need to know is if there's network coverage in Ayobo area of Lagos where I live. I download a lot of online courses, and I need a very stable internet connection. |

TechCapon: go ahead and drag them out on Twitter. That way they'll quickly jump into your dm and beg. I almost made the same mistake of buying their Mifi for 5k. I realized that mtn was also doing a promo, by the time I got to the mtn office they're already out of stock. I gave the customer service lady my number incase they restock. Never buying anything Airtel I was even contemplating on buying the Airtel mifi very soon. |

PhoneCareIkeja: I’d advise you go for Spectranet but it’s expensive
I oncE lived in at Ayobo and I can confidently tell you that Airtel network is the best over there
I have airtel mifi available here in ikeja Or Spectranet as the case may be
Call or WhatsApp me on 09014566031 how much for both? |
Phones › Re: Please, I Need Advise. by The5DME(op): 5:18pm On May 07, 2022 |
dyfaze: Try Spectranet. Very reliable internet service in Lagos generally. I want something not too expensive. Even if I do manage the get the modem, subsequent subscription is what I'm factoring into my budget. |

Phones › Please, I Need Advise. by The5DME(op): 4:34pm On May 07, 2022 |
I take a lot of online courses and as such, need a constant and stable internet connection. But, the network receptivity in my area is very terrible. So terrible to the extent that I can't even download anything anymore. It's too slow. And there are some courses that are up to 25gb in size that I need to download.
I've decided to get a 4g MIFI. But I need a network that has good coverage in Ayobo area of Lagos state. Does Airtel or MTN have good coverage in Ayobo area of Lagos state? I need suggestion, so I don't buy what'll not serve me well. |

Altairx440: I only simulated one, I picked the most essential topics, the rest I could learn later on. If you want you could a look at teachyourselfcs/ossu github, these are my personal selections, yours could be different though, it looks something like;
coding: - python/javascript (I know both now) - focus on syntax and semantics.
programming: - use coding skills to solve coding problems, make simple projects - focus on algorithmic thinking - develop a framework for solving problems - learn to develop algorithms - learn a low level language (C and rust for me) - recursion - tons of practice
discrete mathematics: - preparation for DSA
data structures and algorithms: - most important
misc.: - git - linux - reading and writing documentation - google searching - e.t.c
This is somewhat messy lol, there's also a bunch of other things I have learned and will learn in between. Finally I'll get into development. Would be able ace any jr. software engineer interview and pass most mid level interviews at this point. These are subject to change too. I like your approach. |
