Good day every one...
I'm really grateful for all the informations posted ..

I'm an undergraduate of national open university.., 100l, computer science.
I'm in my early 20s..( 22yrs precisely)

.. I really have interest in technology.. every since I was a kid...

I'm currently learning programing and soft ware development... (C#).outside school,in
a private computer school ,Cause I'm sure I won't be taught most of the practical aspect on it in school..

I also intend to learn full stack development, both front end and back end... After I'm done learning C#...

I want to major in full stack development

To the elders in the house,
I need advice.. on how to be successful on this career paths..

What are the things I should look out for?

What are the.. requirements... In learning full stack development?..

Lastly is there any online petty job, I can do in other to support my self?

Cause the partime night work I'm doing , is draining me of my energy seriously.. and the pay is not encouraging... ..

I'll be grateful for favorable response

Thanks.... ...

** The picture attached was the assignment..I did recently, given to me In the computer school...

It's true , don't be in a hurry to learn it,

When JavaScript became frustrating, I just gave up the fact that I will make money from it immediately, and learnt at my own pace,
That was when I started enjoying JavaScript,

It's so flexible u can even use it for backend
Thanks a lot. What video really broke it down for you completely to finally learn it easily. I am currently using one video from freecodecamp

I'd talk about the Nigerian start-up later.
But this European startup is where I really want to be honest. The job perks included
- training the junior developer
- assigning a mentor throughout your time with the company
- a chance to grow into a mid-level developer and even senior. Depending on how long you stay
- a laptop upgrade grin

What more can I ask for?

But the recruitment process was a two step one. First, they gave me a take-home test (which I'm still on now). The test was given alongside the UI design for it.
Omo. It tests every nook and cranny of your react skills.
From redux to Apollo to fetch data from their endpoint.
I am not allowed to use any library or any framework.
Just pure CSS, and React.

Even hooks because they stated it's must be Class Components cry

Meaning I had to put myself through a brief learning curve, to learn about class components and even classes in JS.

They said the test has NO deadline, but deep down I gave myself one month to finish it.
All these oyinbo people, they go say no deadline but be careful. It doesn't mean you shouldn't time yourself grin
React isn't that hard. Your basic knowledge of html and css will also be important. UI in react makes use of component and component in react are declared as class. There is also need to install npm on your machine.

Now just for clarity, you would need to have a good blog portfolio before applying to technical writing gigs. I prefer Hashnode because it is centered around software developers content only, and it offers custom domain and customization of your blog. That's not necessary sha.

My writing gave me a couple of opportunities. One US based start-up saw one of my articles I shared on twitter and they reached out to me to write contents for their open source projects.

This wasn't a full time job, just a content creator job, the perks were free T-shirts and swags and water bottle cheesy

There's a huge way you can sell yourself as a developer, and that is by creating technical contents. Trust me, nothing beats that.

It strengthens your resume when looking for your first engineering job.

Pls show me the link to your articles

Exactly boss.
And another thing I noticed about making too many applications is that, you could find yourself in a situation where you may receive offers from different companies at different times.

If you happen to take the first offer, you might receive another offer with better packages grin

This is if you killed most of your interviews.

With the impressive pace at which you are progressing, it won't be long before u get to this level. Weldone bro. One of the best threads I have read in a long while!

So guys, in the midst of my entire job search, I've landed another technical writing gig. It just came at the right time meehn grin

Sapa be wan dey romance my neck.
I'd be writing on the company's API and a good use case for it.
The pay is about $300.

I got this gig from someone whom I've worked with before. That's why you can't undermine the importance of networking and first impression in tech.

I didn't apply for this gig, I was simply offered on a platter, because I've impressed during my first time working with him, and when he left the first company to join a new one, I simply continued chatting with him on Twitter. We became friends sort of.

At least, I can use this one to hold body before an engineering job comes through.

I'm still working on my second take home test, this is literally the hardest shít I've done. It's an e-commerce store from scratch. Well, I'm expected to submit this week. So I'm trying to round it up.

Fingers crossed.

Is it not possible that these companies are using these tests a ploy to have applicants like you develop an app they should have paid you for? Just wondering aloud.

So yeah, I've been coding since 2019, I wasn't consistent actually, it was on and off, I could say the stress of school was a major reason for the initial inconsistencies.

I'm coming from an Industrial Chemistry major, but I've always loved computers, I've always been tech savvy.

Well, Sololearn and W3Schools were my early teachers in the field of web development. I learnt HTML and CSS using those two platforms. They are awesome resources for beginners, I definitely recommend.

Wow This part caught me!!!!!

Same course of study and I literally started watching my first coding tutorials today.

What a coincidence! mine is that I’ve been a tech lover and computer geek from day one but never went down the lane of coding.

Let’s see how the thing goes. cool

The funny thing is, even as the rejections keep coming, we keep getting better and better. Finally, offers would start flying in.

Just keep the grind. We must celebrate soon.

I will appreciate if we can share contacts, we have what we can gain from one another.

Guy, you're exactly like me. I started learning programming during the lockdown and I started from sololearn, then I discovered freecodecamp and w3schools later on. I also made use of YouTube tutorials from the likes of traversy, web dev simplified, mosh and others. I had to pause my journey when school finally resumed and I do go back to coding from time to time but honestly it's not easy combining it with school work. Right now I am in my penultimate year and I can't wait to get done with this mad school. Nysc will have to wait so I can fully focus on programming. Keep up the good work bro, your story has motivated me quite a lot

I submitted that US startup interview task today (which was the deadline). I really hope to get a call back to move to the next stage because I love their product.

Oh did I mention that I was finally able to do the OAuth login stuff. I had to set up a proxy server and use it to request for an access token from GitHub, which would grant the user access to the app.

I had to do a lot of documentation reading and stackoverflowing to figure it out. Sometimes it's not just about code, you have to learn the skill of reading documentations grin

It's a fintech company specialising in cryptocurrency trades, decentralised finance and some fiat stuffs too.

One of the joy and perks of working in tech as I've noticed, is the fact that you can get a chance to work on exciting products which millions of people around the world would be using. It's insane. It's one of the things that drives me in this journey.

To many of us, tech gave us hope. Especially in this country that basically has nothing to offer the youths.

Back to my laptop.

Hello,
Nice info!
I wanted to know; during the interviews, did question about your age come up? Or is your age in your linkedin profile?

Well done my brother. Am so impressed by your hard work and struggle to make a career for your self.

Have you heard about Bug hunting? With your Dev skill you can move to the next level and start earning good money searching for bugs for companies online.

Search for bugs hunting tutorials online to learn the skills . Thereafter you can register with some bug bounty platforms to start searching for bugs for companies.

I don't think that matters. Age and degree are barely asked in tech

Good Day Bro

Your thread has really motivated and enlightened me, and I am begining to seriously consider taking up coding and web development.

I am a tech savvy individual, and really want to venture into coding.

I am a medical students, but still have enough time to venture into most activities.
I don't know if you can give me an insight on how I can go about starting, and what I need to know, fears, expectations, and all what not.

Any opinion will be highly appreciated Bro.

Thanks

Is this what is crashing under Node.js? I'm presently using one with similar spec and got it with the hope it serves well when I eventually begin with react and node.
most probably a bug in the code because node js is lightweight.
