Ghana and Nigeria appreciating the brilliance of Professor Chinua Achebe, The Father of Modern African Literature. |
Godman_n: They bear Nigerian names but in no way have Nigerian influence. They were trained and groomed in Britain. Get it into your slavish head. These men who bear Nigerian names are representative of a much BIGGER problem that is impacting Nigeria as well. And that problem is religious fundamentalism. They are terrorist, just like the terrorist who operate in Northern Nigeria. |
Those animals were of Nigerian descent. Why are some Nigerians in denial? Do their names sound English? No. Do some people actually think that Nigerians are not capable of such despicable acts? Look at what is happening in Northern Nigeria with the despicable horrors that occur up there daily. |
c.fours:That is NOT what I was saying. The animal committed a despicable act. What gives him the right to take the life of another over some perceived grievance with a government? What him and his accomplice did was PURE EVIL. And what angers me is that many Nigerians are not condemning the act and are only worried that he is being labeled as someone who is of Nigerian descent. |
bobthebuilder99: So..if lots of people call Africans animals, that means we should accept the title?I see you are comparing apples with oranges. If enough people follow you, then you are considered a leader? The answer is yes. If enough people call you the King of Pop, Queen of Soul, Father of American Literature etc, the title will stick. The same can be said calling Professor Achebe the "Father of Modern African Literature." I do not know why some people have problem with that title. He seems to be a deserving candidate of such a title. Many of his novels can be found in curriculums across the world. That is a feat that no African author can even dream of. |
c.fours:Well what can you do? The UK or Europe for that matter has never been considered a place that is hospitable for foreigners. When someone who is not native commits a barbaric act such as this, you better be prepared for the blowback, because to be honest, you were never wanted to be in the country in the first place. It just that some people in the UK government had colonial guilt and that is why there were once favorable policies towards immigrants in the past. |
c.fours:Well maybe it is due to the "Other" factor. The government of the UK is currently having a vigorous debate about immigration. And news like this doesn't help, because even though one of the individuals was born and raised in Britain, he is the son of an immigrant to the UK. Plus, I feel some of you are forgetting that this man's Nigerian accomplice is said to not even have been born in the UK, but became a naturalized citizen. What do you have to say about that information? |
I am just guessing, but this may be a case of carbon monoxide poisoning. If it was indeed CO poisoning, the couple should have been taken out the vehicle immediately, so that they could get oxygen. Oxygen is needed in order to increase the removal of the carbon monoxide from hemoglobin. |
I didn't even know this discussion was continuing. Let us end this thread by stating that many people view Professor Chinua Achebe as the "father of MODERN African Literature," while some people do not. That is perfectly fine to have a disagreement on issues such as this. But let me say, if a majority of people give you a title, even one you do not wish to have, eventually, it will stick. That is how we as humans work. If enough people call you something, how can you deny the title? |
How hard is it for many you to understand that both men who committed this act are British of Nigerian (Yoruba) descent? That is like saying someone who is British, but of Polish descent or even British of Turkish descent. It doesn't take away that they are British, but it recognized that those individuals cultural or ethnic heritage are found in Nigeria, not Britain. |
These two Nigerian (Yoruba) men or animals have brought shame not only to their families, but to all Nigerians. They were given so many opportunities living in the UK that many Nigerians living in Nigeria can only dream about and what did they do with that wasted opportunity? These men took the life of an innocent man who committed no harm to them. These despicable creatures deserve whatever is coming to them in this life and the afterlife if you believe in an afterlife. |
RIP Professor Chinua Achebe. DICKtator: R.I.P to the IconoclastDo you even know what "iconoclast" means? |
She could be Nigeria's Iron Lady one day. ![]() It is sad that some Nigerians do not give this woman the respect she rightfully deserves. |
Is there a reason why so many of the comments on this thread are hidden? |
c.fours:Haven't you heard phrase "a few bad apples spoil the bunch?" The Nigerian name is already in the gutter throughout the world. And this news is not going to help either. |
ShymmexLion: It's just an isolated case!' Isolated case my black posterior! The British intelligence agencies need to do some more surveillance of these individuals (including Nigerians) who become radicalized in jail, school or wherever place these lunatics congregate |
The Nigerian community in the UK need to do some deep soul searching. How can a young man of Yoruba stock go down the path of radicalization? It is quite sickening that he had the audacity to commit such a despicable act. |
He is British. No he is a Yoruba. No he is a Nigerian. Who cares? The man is connected to all those identities. The sad fact that not only did he take an innocent person's life, Nigerians as a group regardless of their identity will be lumped in together, because of this act. |
coogar: what caused the los angeles riots? how many black men are in american prison system? you sheep don't even know that you are being discriminated against! america is the only developed country where having a black skin is a criminal offence!I guess you forget that the United States is the only Western nation that has been able to elect someone who is non-white as President. The same cannot be said of any country in Europe including the UK. |
coogar: we don't have racist policemen like the ones that clubbed rodney king to coma. You know that is a lie, but I am going to allow you to daydream. Be prepared for the blowback due to this crime. It is already being framed as a Nigerian man committing this act. |
I do not see how these Nigerians in the UK are joking on this thread. This is a serious issue, because now you all are going to be profiled more due to this despicable act.. |
You Nigerians living in the UK are about to feel the full brunt of British immigration policies since that crazy fool committed such a despicable act. |
shy-mmex:You are still in denial "mate?" Have you seen the Nigerians living in Houston? Many of them live in large palatial mansions working for the oil industry. Or what about the Nigerians that live quite comfortably in Prince George's and Montgomery County? They are doing well. Give it up bruh. The Nigerian community in the UK needs salvation. |
shy-mmex:Jealous of those who live in the land of opportunity? What about your brethren who live in the ghettos of London? The world saw the riots in London a few years back. And I bet many Nigerian youth were among the rioters. Nigerian Americans are just a different breed from the ones in the UK and with less of the headache. |
Sweetlemon: Sorry, but You really don't sound like someone who has been to or lived in the U.S. This sounds more like hearsayI thought I was the only person who noticed that. He doesn't realize that the UK or the rest of Europe for that matter is not too friendly to African immigrant. That is why you have an African underclass in places like London and Paris. You will never find that in the UK. Yes, there are many Nigerian cab drivers in the US. But there are also many Nigerian doctors, engineers, lawyers and bankers in the US as well. The US is the land of opportunity and that is why you do not see much problems within the Nigerian community in the US compared to the UK. |
The action of one demented individual is going to be used to portray an entire group in the UK. smh Nigerians living in the UK, be prepared that you all will be used as a scapegoat, because of that fool. |
obadiah777: STOP LYING ON A PUBLIC FORUM. AMERICAN JAILS ARE FILLED WITH NIGERIANS WHO DO CREDIT CARD FRAUDS, MORTGAGE FRAUD, MEDICAID FRAUD AND SELLING HEROINE WHICH THEY BRING IN FROM PAKISTAN. THE PLACE IS A SAVAGE NATION. OF COURSE YOU HAVE SUCCESSFUL NIGERIANS ( WHATEVER THAT MEANS ) BUT MAJORITY ARE THIEVES LOOKING FOR A FAST BUCKNigerians are considered the most educated group in the United States. http://www.bet.com/news/national/2012/03/20/survey-nigerians-most-educated-in-the-u-s.html Can the same be said of the ones found in the UK? It is time for you Nigerians living in the UK to be honest with yourselves. You all have a problem that needs to be fixed. |
shy-mmex:No wonder British politicians are tightening up their immigration policies. Seems like a large amount of Nigerians living in the UK are leeching off the system. In the US, Nigerian immigrants do not have the luxury of going on welfare, because in order to get it, you must be a citizen. That is why they have a better work ethic than ones across the Atlantic found in the UK. |
obadiah777: ABSOLUTE BOLLOCKS. NIGERIANS IN AMERICA ARE SAVAGES. AT LEAST 20 NIGERIAN MEN HAVE MURDERED THEIR WIVES IN AMERICA WITH KNIVES AND GUNS ETCWrong. I never hear of any Nigerian American joining a gang unlike the Nigerians found living in the UK. I rarely hear of any Nigerian American on welfare unlike the ones you find in the UK. I rarely hear of any Nigerian American filling up US prisons unlike the ones in the UK. The list is simply endless. |
What is wrong with Nigerians in the UK? Y'all are so different from the ones found here in the United States. You rarely hear of a Nigerian in the US living on welfare compared to the ones in the UK or causing any trouble. Nigerians in the US are actually respected and considered an educated group of people. |
