Crime / Re: Pictures Of Prof. Iyayi's Bullet-pierced Body (Viewers Discretion Advised) by Theeni: 4:22am On Dec 07, 2013
There are obviously 2 holes. The larger hole wouldn't have definitely made the smaller exit wound, esp if you did notice the smaller hole beneath the larger one. And the forensic specialists will tell you of an entry and an exit wound. A bullet wound would have some slight burns around the entry wound
Politics / Re: Festus Iyayi Was Shot By Policemen In Kogi's Governor Convoy - SaharaReporters by Theeni: 7:03am On Nov 20, 2013
Adeoba10: Based on what I read, dey said one of his left rib pierced 2ru his heart due to d collision. If it were to be a bullet, atleast d doctors should be able to remove it after his death.

The bullet from a police rifle is usually a high velocity missile, which has an entry wound, and usually also an exit wound, so it's not unusual not to find the bullet lodged within the body

toprealman: OP do you know the content of coca cola?
Yes I know the content of Coca Cola. I stopped taking it for about 2 years now cause the caramel used in making it (the type produced industrially) was discovered at that time to be carcinogenic. The FDA banned the use of that type of caramel in Coca Cola in the USA. But we in Nigeria, so you know the rest of the story....

tunshe: Manufacturers who understand the strength in the purchasing power of Muslims abide by what is halal for us.

I remember when I was working with Nestle, there is an halal committee that validate and certify the production process. It's part of the QC/QA role.

If you are observant, you will see it on product labels written as Halal English or Arabic or both.

It's important we investigate shoprite, if they are producing the bread for all or just for non Muslims who eat anything they like.
Yeah. Well said. I notice the halal labelled food products. This particular bread loaf is not one of them, as is many other consumables in Nigeria. There are countries in Europe and even south Africa that have strictly halal shops. And since we know our regulatory bodies are far from efficient, it left to the populace to pursue their rights

Blah blah blah...And Shoprite's help desk is located on Nairaland.
You just choose to be steadfast in your ignorance *smh 4 u*. I also love this bread if you must know, but I had to put a halt to its consumption just to confirm the news

Stånd: @Op....if your post is found to be untrue/false, What would you advise that Shoprite do to you?
Still wondering why a MOD has decided to put an unconfirmed allegation on FP.

There is something called consumer rights. You have a right to know the content of what you eat, what you use. And the thread is to confirm if it is true

But why use pig-fat, are we in short supply of cow-fat?[/quote]

Because making use of pig fat is way cheaper and more economical. Cost of rearing pigs is way lower than that of cattle and sheep.
Islam for Muslims / Re: Pig Fat In Shoprite Bread? by Theeni: 8:22pm On Oct 29, 2013
Blood is forbidden, except that in liver and spleen which can be consumed. Dead animals are forbidden, except for fish and locust. And pig produce is forbidden, including its fat. Please check out the tafsir of the particular verse you quoted (baqarah 172-173) [ and don't mislead people

The oil is part of the flesh of the pig, as the fat is either with the muscle, skin, or liver, which is still the same flesh.

Pork Fat Used In Making Shoprite Bread?

Heard this from a Muslim brother recently (who didn't have any reason to lie to me) that someone (a non-Muslim) told him pig fat, was one of the ingredients in making shoprite bread, and he was only telling me him cause he knew muslims do not eat pork pig products. Not to create a prejudice here but we know of all the "possible impossibilities" here I Nigeria. Please could we try to research on this as muslims as we know the impact of haram food on acceptance of our solat by Allah.

Family / Re: How Much Should A Potential Nigerian Husband Earn? by Theeni: 1:58pm On Oct 24, 2013
tpacalipse: Whatever you earn can never be enough for a Nigerian woman. Trust me. Just let her understand what u are capable of before the marriage, so that she won't become a problem for you after due to money issues. Keep what you earn to yourself if u could and make sure all official documents are kept away from where she can have access to them. Never let her know the lawyer who will execute ur will, u might regret if you violate this. And lastly, once you are married, never engage in extramarital affairs, they won't pay you, because grasses have never been found to be greener at the other side. Same ni gbogbo won. But if u ever divorced in the end, do not ever remarry, ain't worth it. Ignore these at ur own peril.

Politics / Is Free Health Policy Really Worth It? by Theeni: 7:01am On Oct 05, 2013
Free health policy is kind of a campaign slogan for many politicians seeking to be governors especially in the southwest. Now if you happen to work in a government hospital you will come to realize that it is detrimental to the development of such communities. I am not an anti-fashola (the guy has contributed immensely, but can do better sha), but taking Lagos State for example, you would realise that in government facilities running the free health policy, which caters for the paediatric and geriatric age groups, the government tend to neglect funding those areas cause they believe in the policy of "put your money where your mouth is". Imagine a secondary health care facility not having stationary to write on? I asked one of the hospital administrators of one of such hospitals and he said most of the resources the hospital uses are from donations from NGOs, as the government contributes little to the upkeep of the hospital. It is also saddening cause the impression the majority of the citizenry who use such hospitals are of the low socio-economic class, so they end up coming to the hospital without a dime, thinking everything is absolutely free! And when you tell them they need to buy some things, they then rush home to fetch the money.
There is one of the few areas where I find a fault with the government policy in such states. Quality health care never comes for free, and we will always lag behind in that sector if we don't change our ideology. The United States health budget alone is more than the fiscal budget for Nigeria for a year, and they are supposedly the richest country in the world so why don't they run a free health policy? And of course you know our "high and fly" here in Nigeria won't even hesitate to send themselves or relatives abroad in as much as even an ant bites them.
The health insurance scheme would go a long way in solving this problem if It is re-evaluated and the corruption part of it diminished
Sports / NBA TV Now On Startimes? by Theeni: 6:34am On Oct 05, 2013
ESPN announced mid-year that they would be taking their services off African and middle east based satellites with effect from the last quarter of the year. One of the set of fans most affected were the basketball fanatics. Imagine having to forget about watching live NBA games especially the exhilarating playoffs. Heard a rumour NBA TV would be coming to Startimes and I eventually caught a glimpse of it on Startimes. Now that is a welcome development cause that's even the full NBA TV. Getting a Startimes decoder now is seeming inevitable for NBA lovers out there...
Religion / Re: Is Abortion Okay In Protestant Churches? by Theeni: 6:59pm On Aug 29, 2013
What you people fail to realise in your ignorance are the rules catering for an abortion. There are medical cases that would warrant termination of the pregnancy, for example,if a woman has an ectopic pregnancy(outside the womb) that is continually growing and would likely kill her if it gets beyond a certain size and ruptures at that stage(ask a doctor around you regarding that). Now tell me,if it was your beloved wife/sister/mother and a doctor breaks the news to you that this pregnancy is going to kill your loved one if not ended soon, would you or would you not betray your religious doctrine? Reminds me of a certain jehovah witness mum that was watching her soon die and eventually agreed to blood transfusion

There's no way it could cost that amount. How much is a pound of gold? If a normal metallic finish could cost $1.2 million, how would one made of gold cost only $500,000 more? Even if it's gold electroplated it would still be more expensive than the quoted amount

Health / Re: Inspirational Tweets Of People Living With Sickle-Cell Disease. by Theeni: 9:06am On Jun 21, 2013
Bay1970: Being AS and having AS wife/husband is not end of the world, it gives you only 25% of having SS(sickle cell), 25% of AA and 50% of AS. Can it be avoided if posible? yes, but education is only the answer. If you love your AS boy/girl friend, do not let AS stop you from having someone you really love as a life partner; you might end up having a bitch with AA and in hell for the rest of your life. If you are AS with AS wife/husband, please remember to do CVS on every pregency. CVS will detect SC at 12 wks 100%.

And what after CVS? And abortion? You know how much CVS costs and how readily accessible it is? That 25% means 1 in 4 children right? But it's a ratio mind you. You could have 3 kids with all being HbSS. It doesn't come in any particular order. Try visiting a paediatric emergency and see the agony of these kids in crisis. Many by the time they are 25 are already using walking sticks. Pregnancy and labour is similar to a death sentence for a sickler. Please, don't do AS + AS, AS + AC, if you love your partner you will definitely want to avoid the turbulence that your future holds. Don't go down the path

Politics / Re: Tinubu Embarrassed In Dubai For Associating With Buhari by Theeni: 3:26pm On Jun 18, 2013
REHOZIBAH: Dis title of dis thread is sensational to say d least!

Occassions lyk dat r meant 4 throwing banters n conviviality!

D coup dat brought in Buhari served a purpose then n dat was to stem d corruption dat politicians of dat time wer flagrantly displaying

We were innudated wt nauseating display of affluence n iniquitous accumulation of wealth by politicians especially of d ruling class

Shagari d president was adjudged not to b dat corrupt but his weakness n refusal to reign in party members was his greatest undoing

Even civil servants were not left out! Then was d era of brown envelope! B4 u cud get anytyn done in govt circle,u av to tip off an official by packaging crisp naira notes in a brown envelope

Getting a contract approved was predicated on u having factored in a 10% extra cost on yr normal valuation

N dis was hampering d smooth running of govt! Nepotism n evri vice were @ dia infancy then n Nigerians were really complaining!

It was d indignation dat reckless lifestyle of d politician birthed in d military dat made Buhari n odas 2 chase d corrupt politicians away

A few months afta,d politicians aving accumulated a war-chest of money started mounting propaganda against d regime using d mass media capitalising on d regimes' excesses

IBB who aving studied dat Nigerians really do not hate corruption but wish to b part of it also took ova n really democratise corruption

Evri known enemies of (Buhari)govt were bought on-board thru indiscriminate award of contracts n d satanic SAP economic policy

Brown envelopes n 10% both disappeared leaving d stage 4 gross n undescribebable monumental corruption, people just collect mobilization fee of any contract n vamoose

In oda not 2b prosecuted,d contractor-politicians started hobnobbing wt d military

In a nutshell,it is not so simplistic to say Buhari truncated democracy if d 'ifs' n 'why's' are nt properly explained

4me evr action of each military ruler shd b dispassionately explained 2 situate dia place in history

Murtala n Buhari stil tower above evri military ruler dat Nigeria hs had.Gowon got tainted by his sit-tight antics n civil war

Back to Tinubu,I wud av bn agrieved dat Tinubu is hobnobbing wt Buhari if I ddnt kno d precedent of GMB as an anti-corruption crusader or his distaste of lascivious lifestyles of present day politicians

I subscribe to d need 2 completely change d course of dis country by progressive politicians wt Nigeria being dia focal point n not any ethno-religious connotation or colouration being deplored by d PDP

I adore GMB 4 d little he was able to achieve by whipping d then very corrupt politicians n business men including Dangote then cos Buhari remove d monopoly dat Dangote alone hd over importation of som food items

Several of d politicians Buhari moved against were even fellow northerners like Abdusamad,Mai Deribe n several odas not d 'Na my Brother' kind of politicians we av now

Its a known fact dat billions in import duty waivers were being granted 2 som business men who r major financiers of d govt in power

Who can 4get d ultimate monopoly Femi Otedola enjoyed in AGO importation 4 abt a year unda OBJ who gave him importation contract 4 all d diesel d whole of nigeria was consumming wc d young man now sub-contract to other major playas in d industry

You all don't kno dat monumental corruption emanates frm d leader dats y dey can neva fight corruption

Malabu,Halliburton n several hideous corruption scandals r 2 numerous 2 mention

4me as a Yoruba man,Xtian n highly detribalised, nobody can taint General Muhammadu Buhari in my view cos dis man is d demon dat our ruling elites fear

Its only we d youths dat I am afraid for cos d corrupt elites av almost succeded in twisting our history since most of u probably were not born until d 90s hence d social media av bn used to whip of grand hatred against people who ordinarily shd b our heroes

Dey did it to Gani Fawehinmi who pipo even later said was looking 4 cheap publicity owing to his incessant cries n activism against d corrupt n entrenched establishment

Gani later tried his hands in politics,d propanganda machinery stil said 'd best activists r not always d best leaders n dat Gani shd b content wt being just a human right crusader'

Anytime I see u all fighting yrslf on d basis of religion, ethnicity I always weep within me cos corruption, sleaze,n visionless leadership dosnt kno Hausa,Igbo nor Yoruba
