NoFoolishness: Igbos argue with Ghanaians (Akan) all the time about who dominated Jamaican culture. It's a shame really because both were influential yet neither represent the majority or the main ingredient (so to speak) of our existence. We are too mixed up with different African groups for anyone to be arguing about something as meaningless as which tribe influenced the diaspora the most.
Especially since in 2021 nobody in the diaspora claims these tribes anymore and havent for over 400 years. ♀️♀️
Covid 19 is of more importance than tribal affiliation in the west. I'm js. but your patios is filled with more of Igbo words though I'm learning patios It's very similar to Nigerian pidgin https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigerian_PidginBesides how did you get to nairaland? Covid 19 in Nigeria is basically absent |

NoFoolishness: Who told you that lie? The Yoruba were certainly taken to Jamaica they were called the "Nago" people while on the island. Where are yall getting your sources to where yall think we in the diaspora belonged to specific tribes only? Jamaicans dont only have affinity to Igbos or even just west Africans. We central African and south east African as well.
But to get back to the point why would there be a community named after a Yoruba settlement with no Yoruba in Jamaica? That makes no sense. The answer is there were Yoruba taken then mostly from the Republic of Benin. They were captured by rival Fon groups if not sacrificed. can I get a source? Besides what I actually meant was that they weren't taken in significant quantities in comparison to Igbo and Akan You should see that Yoruba were mainly shipped to Brazil,Cuba and the US Thats why people still speak an ancient type of Yoruba in Latin America and worship orishá mixed with catholism Even the food is almost the same as the present Yorubaland And Yoruba is a major contributor to the Gullah language I know Jamaica is a melting pot But the main population are afrodescendants Dahomey(formerly a Oyo vassal)took advantage of the collapse of the Oyo empire and Yoruba civil wars to go on a slave taking rampage I know my own history Don't take any of my posts arguing with that woman serious I was just being defensive and I was really sleepy |

Or were the skilled artisans kept in Egypt and only basic workers and civilians emigrated I think I because west Africa was a forest(different from north east Africa) And we were on survival mode(maybe we ran from something) Nevertheless we still did a lot I have a feeling that we were on the way to an African renaissance just before the Europeans came I mean A renaissance comes after conflict and need to improve The fall of the Oyo,bornu etc especially that of Oyo was perfect for an awakening in technology You guys should check out this dope African historian https://m.youtube.com/channel/UC12lU5ymIvSpgl8KntDQUQA/videos |

TMKsouth: Try keeping up.
SA brought in many men from Southern and Central Africa into the country during the apartheid era to come work in the mines. That's how HIV arrived in SA. From there it quickly spread because these men used the services of prostitutes who often hanged around the mining hostels (which were all-male). Months later, the men (both South African and foreign) would then return home to their wives (usually to the rural areas and townships) and then infect them. That's why HIV is more rife in Southern Africa more than the rest of the continent because of the SA mining industry.
Of course today it's still spreading because it already exists in the country, and there have been poor interventions by the government. I once saw a conspiracy theory about how the whites tried to eliminate the indegenes by infecting you guys with aids at hospitals in the guise of treatment They had some sort of evidence too Cant remember where I read/watched that Does it have some bone? |

The mines and prostitution around the all male mining hostels helped spread the virus to the rural areas and neighbouring countries where the miners' wives lived. Read up on it. that has no business with kamerun The SA miners enjoyed themselves |

Saltybear: Propaganda seems to be all that fills the news these days
That is how the other day the southwest was claiming having highest IGR.
All.these under bridge stats churned out by Brown envelope media this is why the international community never takes us seriously.
You took all the oil company head offices from my Niger Delta to Lagos . When southwest has no oil ;Do you realize the taxes these oil companies pay to the state since their head office is in Lagos ? Their staff salaries are taxed too... So far the head office is in Lagos if you like work in a rig in Qatar your salary is taxed by Lagos state. Them they now took all embassies of foreign countries to Lagos too ..
Etc I could go on and on. But my joy is slowly the reckoning is coming. Every state collecting their vat is just the beginning. Eventually all the oil companies must return to the Niger Delta. Same with so called fuel depots.
Then we will watch that IGR shrink.
We move Niger Delta will get there south west has no oil? Just shut dab fvck up Just say it's paining you that SW is leading |
