Education › Re: Is MECHANICAL ENGINEERING Gradually Becoming Obsolete?? by TheManOfTheYear: 9:06am On Nov 18, 2017 |
Semtu: It's because we are in Nigeria that you don't know how far technology has gotten in other countries. Technologically advanced countries like China and America are already past the mechanical era, almost everything they make use of are automated !!!... As Nigeria also advances, mechanical devices will become obsolete in this country. Wrong assertions. Every technological device has both Electrical and Mechanical components. Without either components, the device can't function. They go pari-pasu . So it's stupid to say Mechanical engineering is gradually becoming obsolete cuz as long as there are machines and devices.. it will still be very much around |

Bossman: Yes, you have to keep retooling/reading. IT is changing and the only way to stay competitive, especially as a consultant, is to know what the latest tech is and make sure you know it. Right out of college, I was programming in a totally different language. Then Java came along and became hot, so I learnt that and got appropriate certifications, and I have been programming in that for the last 14 years or so. And still learning different technologies that will aid me in my job and make me as competitive as possible. one's got no choice but to stay on top of tech. Otherwise, you'll be left behind and not be able to get that next contract. Man needs to put food on table for wifey and kids...LOL! Very interesting. You're right man,one has to stay top of the game. Even doctors and pilots undergo additional trainings to keep up with the latest trends.. it's normal. Gracias |

Just aiming largest like NTA and PDP and Nigeria
It's not by size. It's the depth and quality OK so what are you doing here? Dude, you're fan |

Bossman: How body TheManOfTheYear. See my responses below...
1. Came to the US a long time on Student visa. Student visa was easy back then. Na long time ago. Even the Naira had significant value compared to the US $ back then. Parents paid for all 6 years (BS and Masters) of college. 2. I studied computer science/Programming in college. 3. Got a job with a major Bank as a software developer through my school's placement office (during my last semester). Joined the company as soon as I finished. The company was in a different state, so they paid for flying me in for in-office interview, relocation, etc. 4. IT itself is a very broad word. It encompasses software development, Database Management, Networking, etc. As mentioned, I studied computer programming. So, I can only give advice about that. Even if you do not go to college for a CS degree. At a minimum you should have a mastery of software development/programming, using one of the common languages such as Java, C, C++, etc.
I want to avoid derailing this thread with technical jargon. So, please PM me if you have any specific questions relating to software development in general. Or you can search the programming forum here. Thanks for this concise reply. Now I know which path to follow. But you mentioned you came in a long time ago, how then do you manage to keep up with the IT trend and development over the years?? Did u take extra courses? Cuz IT was still at its infancy back then. Oga BJ no vex ooo,I'm not trying to derail. I just wanna clarify this IT prospects. After that no more questions. Thanks |

Hmmm....I salute u (though) for being courageous enough to ask me and therefore will allow you to send me a "pm". Remember my "signature"... How did u manage to translate the pic. As an IT person that works downtown Chicago, you'll be surprised how many Nigerians (Africans in general, but mostly Naija) I run into downtown or on the train during my commute downtown...all working professionally. Oga Bossman .. I hail oooo Biko how did u come in to the US?? How did u eventually get into the IT world?? What courses(majors) can one take to land jobs in the IT world in the US of A |

omoluabiguy: With good waec result, you should write SAT/TOEFL exams which are not that difficult compared to GRE (for masters/phd applicants). If you do good with SAT, you have 95% of getting a full ride scholarship. The only budget you would need is flight ticket and the money to travel with. SAT shouldn’t be that cost about 60k naira or so.
#omoluabi I'm planning on coming in by Fall 2019.. Undergraduate degree. Engineering. Can u give me some schools where I can get full ride? |

oruma19: sorry peeps I have a question. Do they pay to get AFRIMA awards? Reason I ask is how can WizKids "one dance" win award like best song of the year and artist of the year when we have songs like Davido's "IF" and Techno's "MAD OVER U" make we reason here. I don't hate wizkid o, before his fans will come for me. I would have preferred Wizkid's "OJUELEGBA" to win instead of that useless "one dance" Song that drake refused to feature in the video. Who told you Drake didn't feature in One Dance video |
