Reading from what the three of you are typing, it seems you all are saying the same thing. This is not a competition on who is right. And for the record, a layman would think it is, just from reading you guys back and forth.

That said, if your pastor tells you that you will go to hell because you did not pay your tithe, don't bother going to that church again. I am yet to read in my Bible that paying tithe is the recipe to get to heaven. You might pay tithe till you are broke and be a mean, wicked person. Will you go to hell or heaven?

It is true that the pastors in Nigeria has turn tithing into another thing. Let me give you an example, here in my church, we have a seven year plan and it will cost about 1.2 million dollars. After the pastor presented the plan to us, did he ask us to fund the vision? No. They have been putting away money for this vision about 5years ago. Even before we got this idea. I know in my Nigeria church, they will start to ask us to do triple offering and pledging and stuff.

May God bless us all. We all don't know the answer to every thing and it will be a great thing to just let it go sometimes.

Offline: pilgrim, I sent you an offline.

Wow, what a testimony. Reindeer, the Lord just started a great thing. Will you still have lots of questions? Yes, you will. But by studying the word and praying, your faith will grow.

Jesus is indeed Lord and in Him, there is peace. He genuinely loves us and He longs for us to get to know Him even more.

Lord, we thank You for our brother's life. We are joining our faith together, believing in You, to do greater things and reveal Yourself even more to him. Thank You Lord.

We give thanks to our Lord, Jesus Christ. Him alone, deserves all glory.

Miracles upon miracles.

You know, we all live our lifes and do our daily things. We go about our days. Even come on NL and talk harshly to each other. At the end of the day, when you get to read something this wonderful, you have to stop and reassess your life. Find out where you stand. What is important.

Lord, we are indeed grateful for a day like this. We know You love us and You are always faithful. Thank You for the people's life that You will touch with this testimony. We ask that You will keep us and help us bring more people to You.

Ndipe, with every culture, there are the good and the bad. The best you can do, is pick the good ones. I am a Yoruba girl and I love, love going on my knees to greet my elders. I remember when I got to the States, I used to bend my knees when I gave things to people. Yes, I got the weird looks, but did it bother me? No way. Lets try to respect other people's culture. Thanks, Bro.

Sistawoman, do you.

Cayon, what you don't know, you ask. It might seem silly to you, but that's the culture. Kneeling is not for worship, but a sign of respect for the Yoruba people. No one forces you to go on your knees and believe me, if you don't kneel, no thunder will strike you. Just needed to clarify that for you. Thanks.

Sistawoman, if you want to go ahead and kneel for your neighbor's MIL, go ahead and do so. If your neighbor's wife doesn't feel comfy doing so, no problem. Not everyone is comfortable going on their knees. It comes pretty easy for me, because I have done it for the past 28yrs of my life. So go ahead and be free.
Foreign AffairsRe: Obama Will Lose by theopops: 11:25pm On Aug 29, 2008
If you are woman and an Hillary supporter and you vote for McCain, because he picked a female VP, you have just accepted to be called names, e.g. stupid, emotional etc. Reason, this female vp stands for nothing that Hillary stood/stands for. You have just proven that a white, old man thinks you are retarded and you can't think for yourself. Seriously, I will wish you never voted for any president of this country. Shows you are only voting for gender, not for substance.

Now, if you vote for McCain because you love what he represents and stands for, thats another thing.

I am a Republican. I was undecided, until this morning at work, when a co-worker told us that Sarah was McCain's pick. This was at 7am, even before it was announced. We all scrambled at our computers to google who she was. At that point I made up my mind.

Obama will not lose.

CultureRe: Two Moon On 27th August by theopops: 4:03pm On Aug 26, 2008
Please kindly don't waste your time. Just do a google search and you'll find it.

Here is a write up. Don't just believe everything you read on Nairaland.
An email that has circulated during July and August for several years is again hitting inboxes in 2007. The message informs recipients that the planet Mars will be passing very close to Earth in August. While this information was valid back in 2003, it is totally inaccurate for 2007.

The year is not specifically mentioned in the message and a great many recipients therefore assume that the message refers to August, 2007. Another version of the message is circulating via SMS. Virtually identical (and equally misleading) messages were circulating back in July and August 2005 and again in July and August 2006. The events outlined in the message were more or less true back in 2003 although they were a little hyped even then. According to NASA, on August 27, 2003, Earth and Mars were the closest they have been for around 60,000 years. Mars was indeed a spectacular site in the night sky during several months of 2003.

However, this fact is not quite as earth shattering as you might think. A 2003 NASA article on the subject explains that:

Much has been made of the fact that the August 27th encounter with Mars is the closest in some 60,000 years. Neanderthals were the last to observe Mars so favorably placed. This is true. It's also a bit of hype. Mars and Earth have been almost this close many times in recent history.

In spite of the claims in the 2006 incarnation of the message, Mars was a far less than "spectacular" sight in the night sky. For much of 2006, it was on the far side of the sun from the Earth and was quite inconspicuous during July and August.

And, during July and August 2007, the view of Mars will again be far less than spectacular. Mars will make its closest approach to Earth in December 2007, but, even then, it will not be particularly bright. The SEDS website notes:

Mars will come into its Opposition on December 24, 2007 in constellation Gemini. Six days earlier, on December 18, 2007, the planet will have come to its closes distance to Earth during this apparation: 88.42 million km (55 million miles, or 0.58935 AU). This is not very close, as Mars will be quite close to its aphelion at the time of this opposition. As usual, this approach will offer another opportunity to launch spacecraft to the red planet: Nasa intends to send the Mars lander Phoenix.

The planet will be situated far north: At a northern declination of +26:46 at opposition time, Northern hemisphere observers will find it high in their meridian, and Southerners will find it low in the North. In this rather aphelic opposition, the planet will become only as bright as mag -1.64, and of diameter 15.88 arc seconds around that time.

At around 88 million kilometers, Mars will be a lot further away from Earth this year than it was back in 2003 when the distance between the planets was only around 56 million kilometers.

Nairaland GeneralRe: Nigerian Nurses Beware? by theopops: 10:05pm On Aug 23, 2008
Got to agree with DZ on some of her points. No, it is an illusion. Nurses do not make "tonnes of thousands". At what expenses do they make the "tonnes of thousands"? At the expense of their kids? Happiness? A fruitful marriage? They get paid by the hours. So, if them like, they can work 22hrs out of 24hrs. You can't compare a salaried worker to an hourly worker. Take for example, I work M-F, about 40hrs. Some week, I work 45hrs, some week I work 38hrs. The thing is, I still get paid the same each month. And guess what, my BP is not reading high, cos I am less stressed. And I can tell you, even with a nurse working 80hrs in a week (if thats possible) and making 35/hr, I still make more than her. So, lets start to tell the truth. Nurses are in high demand, no doubt. But, they should learn to have a balance. Just like DZ said, money is not everything. The key word is being satisfied. A lot of people aint satisfied with what they make. They want to acquire more and more things. Money is very good, but don't let it drive your life.

And yes, the few Nigerian nurses I have come in contact with, have a big mouth.

Also people, when others talk about the nurses or people they have met, and you happen to know one that is not loud or like the poster said, its ok. It's not like the poster knows every single one of them nurses. If your mom or sister or cousin is different, thats good. There aint no need to crucify the poster.

All in all, if you don't know your role in your marriage, you will either be very unhappy or miserable. There is a role for each sex. If there wasn't, God would have created us all in one sex. So whether you like it or not, a disrespectful wife, is a disrespectful wife. Whether she be nurse o, or doctor.

No, my Imam does not have one. But be sure that the bible you have is manmade, this is an understatement anyway. When even Jesus never saw it. Those who invented christianity wrote the bible You have now. What You have now is the adulterated form of the original text. They have completely turned it upside down due to self desire or should I say out of ignorance. This was done several years back. How can You find that today? Why don't You acept the Holy book sent down after the torah, which is a complete guidance to all mankind. Come on David.
Is it so difficult to ask you guys to produce the uncorrupted bible? I mean, for you to know that the one we have now is corrupted, you have to compare with the one that is uncorrupted. That is just pure common sense. Abi, you don't think it is?

Please, kindly produced the original text. For you to type the words in bold letters, you must have seen the original text or someone is feeding you with a whole lot of cow dung.

Still waiting. We are in this together. I am sick of going to the airport, seeing someone all covered up and I am immediately praying that, that person is not getting into my plane. Yes, it is that bad. That is me, that my grandmother is muslim o. I have enough muslim cousins and uncles. So, I am not only interested in all the stories. I really want to know, how to tackle this problem. I seriously don't think the right winged muslims, are doing anything about it. All we have, is people trying to argue it out, using the corrupted book aka Bible.

Please, in ways someone can read and understand, can you please explain to us, why? Why for God's sake, will people hate others so much to want to kill them and themselves? I mean, if Islam is really peaceful, I think y'all need to be having conferences and talking about this issue. It doesn't seem to an outsider that, any of you want this to end.
IslamRe: Islam And Terrorist by theopops: 7:57pm On Aug 01, 2008
This is still interesting. The only way to answer the question, is to look into the same book that you all say is corrupted. I mean, on one side, you use the same Bible to justify your beliefs. On the other hand, you say the same book is wrong and it is not authentic. Something is definitely wrong here.

Ok, lets just say you are right about everything you typed, i.e, Omoawo, can you please answer the question. How come in the present day, read me well, in 21st century, when there is a case of people blowing up a place, it is always, lets be generous here and say 75% related to Islam? Please, kindly answer this question, without going into the corrupted book aka Bible. Question is, what can be done to reduce the link between terrorism and Islam? Unless you are not being honest with yourself, you agree there is indeed a link between the two, in this present time. Again, emphasis is on 21st century. Not 2000 yrs ago, not 500 yrs ago, we talking 2008.

Thanks.

olabowale:
@Jayon:
Hopefully a better way, or at least the same way the Christian tackled their Terrorist Crusaders, Polgromists, etc in Europe, and other places. Inshallah, the muslims will not have to secularize their religion, going to the extreme of just keeping it by name, only, without the fundamental substance that it has kept it, right from the time of its completion on the noble Prophet, (AS).

We will not borrow from the Jews, also, since Islam has all the answers, we just have to go back to the moderation in religion and adequately appropriate resolute that are enjoined in the Qur'an and Sunnah. Read the Qur'an and study the sunnah. At least no one can jazz you for acquisition of knowledge. Only a fool will say that he never gets offended or angered when he is wronged. You know the doctrine of turning the other cheek does not work. It has never worked. No one single event in human history hassuccessfully demostrated it. Not Jesuswho was reported to have said it. Afterall, he did not allow Paul to continue to persecute him, when he had enough, he yelled from "Christian heaven," Saul, Saul why persecute me?

By the way the Christian heaven is where Jesus is now, right? When the Christians refer to their best destination after this worldly life, it is the Christian heaven. Then how can somebody in this heaven, be feeling any persecution from events on earth? If Jesus felt the persecution on himself there, is that truly a peaceful place, a good heaven? If Jesus believed that Saul was persecuting his rightly guided followers, he would just have said why persecute my follwoers, not why persecute me. Afterall, his followers and him were not the same body, etc.

I have to bring this up, because this is the way human mind works. I hope you and those who are going to contribute to this thread, will try to engage me on this.
After all these gibberish, how does that answer the question? So, you are supposed to strike back, once someone does you wrong? According to you, Islam does not mean peace, because if it did, you will recognize that when a wrong thing is done to you, killing the person is not the peaceful way to go. Thanks for confirming what we have always know. Islam doesn't mean peace.
PoliticsRe: Corruption In Nigeria - What Are Your Suggested Solutions by theopops: 3:55pm On Jul 28, 2008
I think it should start with everyone having a right to bear arms i.e. we should all have guns. When you get to a check point and you show the police man your AK, he will think twice before he begin ask for N20.

The out come, a lot of us will die, but a lot of them corrupt ones will also die.

Is this going to happen? No. You know why, Nigerians are only bold when it comes to talking/typing. Action? Nothing. We are the greatest cowards. We'll rather sit and watch. At least, the people of Kenya went on the road and did something. It might not be the best solution, but they didn't take bull shit, while sitting and doing nothing.

So the solution to corruption in Nigeria? Act and quit talking.
