You're the one trying to justify what's unjustifiable here.

Was the guy blind to see that the car have a hard starting issue?

For God sake he was there when the car took 20mins to start, now as a car owner what does that tells you?

Now I believe the OP didn't go with the battery, everything happened in his presence,I can bet that he helped jump start it,was he blind to see that it might drain his own battery?

The guy knew the worth of his battery,he saw that the car was taking longer time to start but still wanted to risk it in other to collect the #3500, where's the fraud in this?

It's not as if the op didn't pay him he did so where's the fraud?
Looks like you have a personal issue with the OP.

Yes.. Renter wasn't blind to see the obvious hard starting.. Which he saw AFTER op had sent rent money into his aza.

Op didn't tell Renter about hard starting before he sent rent money into renter's aza

Renter having received money for rent of battery even before the cranking was commenced , was hard pressed to backtrack on the agreement when he discovered op didn't tell him about hard start...

Even if renter stood there and helplessly watched op drain his battery, that doesn't absolve the op from returning the battery in the same state he collected it....Or worst case, giving back the battery with enough charge to start renter's car so the car's alternator can recharge the battery.. That's if such low discharge by the op hasn't already damaged the battery..

Instead, Op insisted on being paid by renter to do what op has a duty to do.. which is return rented item in same condition he collected it.. He fraudulently coerced and cheated the renter of 4500, being a full refund of his 3500, with an additional 1k, and left renter at a loss and a possibly damaged battery.... and you, with your full chest, are cheering him on?

In all your defense of the op, you failed to answer the question "does renting an item gives you a right to damage it or render it unusable?"

The fact that I have to take my time to explain to you what full disclosure before agreement means exposes a whole lot about your kind of person and how you conduct your business.

But na your life... If you feel op was right, that's ok..

But I have marked your moniker.. I will make sure neither myself or anyone I know has any business to do with you.

The guy decided to use his battery for business, that's how I want you to see it.

If after cranking it the first and second time or for like 5mins it didn't start,he should have told the op that he is not interested again but instead he wanted to make sure he collect the #3500 from him, remember the OP said he pleaded for him to reduce the amount but he insisted.

I see this as a business deal,as long as it involves exchange of money to render a service,it is a business deal, the guy requested for #3500 and the op request for #4500.

The battery is the tool he used in rendering the service.
I wonder why you don't want to see it that way.

Concerning the rental service analogy, I believe there's always an agreement on who bears the cost of damages, it will be agreed on before you take the car,in this process I believe the guy is not newbie driver and know that his battery is ok and after trying to start a car of over 15mins should have known that it has a hard start issue.

The guy is a greedy business man and op decided to do business with him, simple.

Simple questions so you can stop trying to justify the unjustifiable..

Did op disclose to battery renter that his car has hard starting issues before the agreement to rent?.. No he didn't....

Does renting an item generally give you a right to damage it?.. No

Ontop of 3500, na im op wan damage battery worth almost 40k...

Does it matter if renter was greedy or not?... No.. If op wasn't ok with the rent fee, e for use im preek jump im battery take start im moto na. Rent fee was to use man's battery to crank a vehicle.. And within reason, a working vehicle shouldn't need more than 3 cranks to start.. Anything afte that, in the absence of full disclosure of issues, fraud don enter the matter.

Op got away with fraud.. And if you see nothing wrong with what Op did, then...

Whether his vehicle killed the guy battery or not, remember it is business and he should take responsibility.

If you're offering a service and your tool got spoilt in the process will you tell your customer to buy another one for you?

No tool was used for any service.. No be spanner wey mechanic use fix motor we dey talk for here..

Op rented a battery to start his vehicle..knowing fully well that his car had hard starting issues which he did not disclose to the person renting him the battery.... He didn't disclose this hard starting issue to the renter who having gotten such info, may have chosen to refuse renting the battery, or charged him more knowing the risk his battery stood, or insisted that after a number of cranks with that his battery, op is on his own.

Battery was obviously in charged condition when he rented it..After use, op had a duty to return the battery in the same state that he was given..

Instead, ontop of 3500 rent money, op fraudulently kept on cranking his engine on that battery for more than 20 minutes, knowing fully well that low battery wasn't the major issue with his vehicle.. And he also had the guts to insist on getting paid to do as little as enable renter start his own car and charge the battery that op had depleted and possibly even damaged..

And then he has the temerity to come here and brag that he drained a rented battery and still short-changed the renter in the process.

If you go rent a car, and you damage it while in your possession, you think the car rental will, because you paid rent money, shake your hands and happily bear full liability for the repair ?..

Or if you allow your child to go run an errand for your neighbour, and that child is found dead or seriously injured in that neighbor's house shey you will just pat that neighbour on the back and go bury your pikin quietly, because that neighbour bin dey help you pay that pikin school fees?

It's shocking that op had the guts to come here and brag after defrauding someone..and it's more shocking that some people are hailing him for doing so.

Yes.. I deliberately used the word "defraud" while referring to the op.. If he feels bad that I am referring to him as a fraudster, he should do his worst.

Pls, are part sellers authority when it comes to Research and Design ( R & D ) of automotive components? Do they know the exact appropriate volume and type of gas and oil used to engineer struts and shocks?

FYI, their business in the parts industry is to sell parts whether genuine or fake and make their money. It’s only in 3rd world countries with no respect for human life that any Emeka, Abdullahi and Wale will suddenly wake up one day and start refilling of shocks.
If in doubt, let’s look at substandard oils and other fake parts. If they know about the best quality practice they ought not to advice anyone to pour any random fluid or install any random parts in their car and collect money.

Abeg reason this thing well.

20w50 oil is hardly recommended by any car manufacturer, but people use it.. and their vehicles aren't dead yet

A large percentage of some Honda and Toyota parts in Nigeria aren't OEM.. but people use them..People have been improvising in vehicles since time immemorial..

Refilled shocks are safe as far as I can tell.. As long as they are refilled in pairs.. I have been in the practice of refilling my shocks for years.. And I am yet to encounter any driveability issues.

I have heard arguments and counter arguments on this.

What's your take?

Thank you for your response.

I speak from experience

I drive a 2010 Honda Accord.. Bought direct toks.. All shocks that came with it still intact.. Refilled the front ones early last year.. And they are still perfect..

If refilled shocks aren't any good, why do those part sellers offer to buy the bad leaky ones? .. So that they can refill, wash and resell as toks yeah?

Preparations and pictures will be posted.

Will be doing:

Abuja-lokoja-kabba-Omuo- Adoekiti - Osogbo - Ibadan.

I am using Osogbo because I intend to do a stop there and visit a relation.

I need present Road conditions on this trip please. I will be plying these routes for the first time.

Thanks for your responses.

Road isn't safe..

Sell your car and use the proceeds to fly yourself and your family to your destination instead wink.. You can always do Ibadan-Osogbo by road.. That route is still relatively safe.

But of course, you aren't gonna wanna sell
your car for just flight tickets for your family.. So you are gonna commit the journey in God's hands, take the highway with your family, and hope that the dice you are throwing by traveling on that route doesn't turn up tears for you..

KARMA IS REAL.

A Driver made me pay him 3500 yesterday night around 12:30am on eleko road to jump start my car. All my pleading to pay him 1500-2k proved abortive.

He insisted I pay 3500. I had no choice than to pay. He had to confirm his payment before he could help me else, he would leave.

Thankfully, he got his alert in no time. Brought his battery to start my car and after many attempts to start my car, it finally started after about 2omins. (my car did hard starting ).

My car started, I closed my bonnet and waited for him to fix his battery so we could path our ways.

Only for him to connect his battery but battery don die

Dude now wanted me to help him free of charge to help jump start his car.

Omo, I collected 4500 before helping him so he could feel the pain of being extorted.

What happens to humanity?
Why taking advantage of someone in distress?
I'm sure he learnt his lesson.

Your nonsense vehicle killed someone's battery and you are here talking nonsense undecided..

As you were insisting on that 4500, what if that guy held you right there and insisted you return the battery the same way he gave you?.. Abi as you were renting the battery for 3500, was it dead battery he gave you?.. Or you had an agreement with him that for that paltry 3500, you will murder his battery?

When you pay 2m to rent wedding hall for just one afternoon, does that give a right to demolish the wedding hall or even its furnitures and fittings?.. Abi as you pay ashawo 50k for naks, that one come give you right to kill am?

It's the guy who gave you the battery I blame.. On the very slim chance that I am lending out my car battery to start another car, if after 3 cranks at most, and that car doesn't start, I will jejely collect my battery before pesin go use weyrey moto kill my battery ..because it is obvious that whatever is wrong with the vehicle, it isn't a low battery issue.

The guy had a right to even collect 10k from you for assisting you with his battery... He doesn't owe you anything. You wey comot from wherever with hard starting motor and dead battery for night, what were you expecting? ... Dude should have charged you 1k per battery crank. By the time you do am 4 times and your useless motor no gree start, you go find alternative solution.. Because of nonsense 3500 wey you pay, na im you dey use pesin pikin battery crank motor continously for 20 minutes angry...You know how much be new battery for market now? undecided

You are very lucky you didn't try this nonsense with someone who will insist that night that you pay him the battery price in full for killing his battery..That's if e no even forget 2-by-2 plank for your head or use wheel spanner comot your teeth angry...

Even if e collect 100k from you for using his battery, as long as e no sell am give you, you have a duty to return his property to him the charged state he gave you..Abi na flat battery the man rent give you? undecided

You are very lucky you got away with this.. As in.. Very very lucky..

Went to ladipo each sensor tokunbo cost 10k. Will this solve the problem

First start from the simple before going all Complicated.

Check all your Tyres' pressure.. If below 40, Guage it up to 40psi.. Of course do that after you are sure the tyres have no leakage..

Low Tyre pressure can seriously negatively affect vehicle mpg due to the fact that tyres with low pressure creat a lot of drag and put unnecessary stress on the engine.. Same way binding brakes, or a failing compressor can also affect mpg.

That goes without saying that you might as well check for binding brakes and a stiff compressor, before you go probing deeper in your engine.
