There is a similar judgement in Lagos recently where the Federal high court ruled that hotels, restaurants and event centres should not pay VAT to FIRS but should only pay consumption tax to Lagos State. So there is definitely a growing move against the current VAT arrangement at Federal level.

Actually, the legal basis for this latest judgement in Rivers state looks very sound and watertight as it is based on the constitution. The constitution provides that FG can only impose income tax and capital gains tax on companies. There's no mention of VAT at all there and this was deemed as deliberate. And if any other law (VAT Act in this instance) conflicts with the constitution, the constitution will be considered superior, and that other law deemed null and void.

From a practical view however, it will be difficult to enforce this judgement throughout the Federation due to the massive disruption it will cause to the existing tax structures and for political reasons( the Northern states will suffer most as they have the least volume of VATable activities in Nigeria as food and agricultural produce are VAT exempt).

So in the end, upon appeal, the supreme court may just bend against the very constitution it is supposed to uphold by reversing this current judgement. It'll be interesting to see the legal merits the supreme court will rely on to set this judgement aside.

Griezmann will be suppressed if restricted to the right wing. He needs to play in the free role Messi vacated for him to perform optimally.

Not the most ideal formation, but still workable. Ideal formation is to have Depay Aguero and Greizmann with Pedri operating behind, or Depay Aguero and Fati with Pedri and Greizmann immediately behind them in a 3-4-3 set up.

Modified: With Aguero's recurring injuries, Fati might as well play as the main striker.

On them playing together, your submission makes sense though. My concern was that Ansu and Depay have similar playing style by operating from the left flank and none is a proper striker. But the fluid spanish-styled system should accommodate them both.

I was devastated that Messi had to leave but I knew it was the right decision by the club leadership. FCB must continue at all cost. Now it has cost us the GOAT .

Hopefully, deadwoods like Umtiti, Pjanic, Coutinho, Braithwaite, Lenglet, Roberto also follows suit. It will be counter productive if Messi had to leave while these players still remain.

Overall, twas a very promising outlook for this Barca team from the excellent performance against Juve. The link-up play between midfield and attack was breathtaking atimes.

But then tis also possible that Juve might not have been psyched up as Barca team who had just lost Messi and had a point to prove. So that keeps my optimism in check.

We wait, see and hope that this form is carried through into the season proper. Still, the future now doesn't look so bad post-Messi which is a good thing.
