These are the regular Mainland hustle and bustling areas. There are some cool estate spots in Festac though. Yaba's housing system is old and too tight yet relatively expensive. But Yaba is a better central location than Festac and is sometimes considered to be an extension of Surulere.

Gbagada any day any time. When we wanted to relocate, my husband checked all these places and finally chose Gbagada, and I never regretted it. Electricity, Band A(24/7), security topnotch, good road network. Being at the center gave it an upperhand to these other places you mentioned. The only cons are, some places don't have good water, also rent is too high now but it's a lovely place.

My second option is Ogudu GRA. You can also check it out
Ilupeju/Anthony is a nice place too

Magodo is the poshest/classiest of the three. Completely upscale and no mix with slums and also relatively the most secure. It is also the most expensive. Closest to Ikeja but farthest from the Island.

Gbagada also has very good housing estates but it's mixed with the rough and not so secure areas as well. Its central location with easy access to Ikeja and Island is a plus.

Surulere is the biggest by far and has a mix of the very good to the very bad. In terms of liveliness, it is the best but also the least secure. It's also the closest to the Island.

Ogudu GRA is also another very decent place to stay, but it's more like Gbagada in assessment.

Ikeja GRA, Omole phases 1 & 2 are other sweet posh and serene locations to live in Mainland Lagos.

Digressing a bit from the line of argument, the pressures a BM or other top professionals face in Nigeria is different from that of a Janitor abroad.

BM in 9ja for example faces immense pressure to deliver on business targets. Janitor abroad on the other hand faces pressure from physical work stress to keep up/improve status and living conditions by working several jobs/long hours.

Which of these contexts do you think creates greater pressure and therefore worse mental health?

With that amount, a BM in Nigeria can:

- afford to build a good house after a couple of years
- has access to loan facilities of up to a N100m which can fast-track significant capital projects
- buy a very good car. Most typically have 2 or 3 cars on average.
- travel abroad for vacation during summer, with or without family
- employ domestic staff that run errands, queue for fuel etc
- either live in a premium estate with almost 24hour electricity supply or afford or set up a solar inverter system that will guarantee all round energy supply
- afford to go out to fun places regularly
- have free access to premium HMO services for medical care that may cost even up to N2million at a sitting

So under no circumstances would you find an average sensible BM struggling to live a quality life in Nigeria.

The general macro issues that plague Nigeria affects everyone whether BM, toilet cleaner or even Government officials.

In addition, the self-esteem (not arrogance) that a BM will have from being at the top of his career, from being exposed and having valuable social capital is something that cant be quantified but typically exceeds the mental state and exposure of a Janitor abroad.

So capital No, an immigrant toilet cleaner abroad does not live a better life than a BM in Nigeria. But he definitely has better prospects to be something better than many other professionals in Nigeria.
