In Nigeria, there are three types of higher
institutions namely the College of Education,
Polytechnic and University. But the strongest
argument is centered more between
polytechnics and universities. Most of the
arguments are based on the effectiveness of
one institution over the other. I am however,
here to give points on why Polytechnics are
better than universities. 1. Simplicity of Learning The OND and HND style of learning enables a lot of students to have a feeling of casualness and helps them in having gradual advance in education. Some might not have the money to pay all their education expenses at once and need to have breaks in their stages of learning to raise the money. The OND degree acquired will even be a better avenue for getting a better job. This is unlike Nigerian universites where you can only apply for Leave of Absence which lasts for just one year. I have seen cases of people who after acquiring OND, vested capital into a business and later came back to finish their Higher National Diploma courses 2. Development of dexterity It is general knowledge that Polytechnics offer a style of lecturing that is operational {Involves more of practice} and the students more liable to have confidence in getting jobs and executing them well. For instance, an Engineering student with a National Diploma degree has more experience in the operations of machines than a university student who is limited more to theory and will most likely perform better in the field. 3. Lack of Difficulty of Securing Admission It is easier to gain admission into a polytechnic than a university. A lot of people have wasted years trying to acquire university admission all to no avail and in the process forgetting that Polytechnics have made it less difficult to enter. With no more than two applications, the worries of admission would have been overcome 4. Lower Fees Nowadays, universities charge higher than polytechnics. This is usually common with state universities. I remember in 2014, if not for the protests by LASU students, fees would have been permanently jacked up to 250,000 naira. How many students can afford that? This is very very unusual with a polytechnic as fees remain stable throughput the sessions 5. Lecture Halls For Conducive Learning The state of many lecture halls is appaling as many are not suited for congestion. This is the reverse in polytechnics as lecture halls are better positioned and well spaced in order to create a suitable environment for learning and assimilation 6. Ease of Toggling Between Environments of Study Anyone can easily study two courses in different polytechnics at same time. It doesn’t even matter if they are in different states. cc lalasticlala ishilove Dominique seun |

I was brought up as a Christian. Practically heard ‘Jesus’ being shouted in my ear all the time and was quite religious at the time. The more I grew older, the more i started to question RELIGION. One thing to note though. I am a theist and i believe there’s a creator of my soul which is God. Hell, screw the Big Bang Theory. {I view Atheists on same plane as Theists} I, however, am opposed to the mediums by which we connect to God. Most of my questions will be asked from a Christian’s perspective. The questions I asked myself goes thus… Why do I believe In Jesus and not Mohammed or Sango? The answer I got at the time was simple. I believe in Jesus because I was TOLD to believe in Jesus. It wasn’t my choice. It was what was put into my head since I was a kid. I wasn’t supposed to ask if it was a fairy tale or not. I was just supposed to give my life to him. What is the difference between serving God through Jesus, Mohammed or some other god? I only got one answer for myself. The beliefs and methods of worship. However, I found a hitch. Christians, Muslims and Traditional worshippers all communicate to God through a medium which is Jesus, Mohammed, Sango, Ifa or some other medium. I know Christians abhor the way pagans worship God through ‘deites’. But because of their faith, they are blind to the fact that they worship God through Jesus. Isn’t it same thing as serving God through a deity? They simply deceive each other that Jesus is different from other deites. This is evident in the way Christians close a prayer with ‘In Jesus name I have prayed’. Same goes for Muslims and Traditionalists though not through same method. Are religious people really blind to that fact or they just choose to overlook it? What’s the difference between religious people {Who realise that fact} and hypocrites? I once saw in a Nairalander’s signature, ‘Tell me why you disregard other gods and I’ll tell you why i disregard yours’ {Not perfectly quoted though} I asked myself that same question and couldn’t get an answer. I am posing that same question to you too. How do I know the deity I serve God through is the REAL one? There are many divisions of Christians. I was brought up as a Pentecostal Christian. There are other divisions like Catholics, Anglicans, White Garments and so on. Let me tell you one thing though. Pentecostal Christians don’t believe non-pentecostal Christians or any other arm of religion serve God right. They believe they can’t make ‘heaven’. Same goes for Muslims when it comes to Sunnis and Shiites. Perhaps no difference with Traditional worshippers that are divided into Sango, Obatala and Ifa worshippers. There are still so many other religions and I asked myself think serving God as a Pentecostal Christian is the REAL way to serve God. I still couldn’t give myself an answer. If My Parents Really Believe in God and Not Religion, Why Can’t I Change To Another Religion Without Opposition From Them? The above question is self-explanatory. And this proves that most Thiests inadvertently serve Religion and not God. If they really serve God, then you should be able to change without being met with strong opposition from family and church members. Just try it at home. Call your parents and tell them you want to change religion and see their reactions. Why Are Non-Religious Countries More Successful Than Religious Ones In Nigeria, walk through any street. You’ll pass at least two churches there. Even on my own street alone, there are five churches. Some religious people view the U.S.A and other non-religious oriented countries as ‘Sodom and Gomorrah’. Yet, yesterday, naira dropped to 315 against the dollar. Why can’t our supposed ‘Israel’ be more successful than ‘Sodom and Gomorrah’? Is There Really Something called Rapture or Judgement Day That Will Happen Soon? Since the 1900s we’ve always been hearing about the ‘Last Days’ and Judgement Day. The earth is still standing. True, there might be an apocalypse but trust me; It won’t come from a Judgement Day. The Bible spoke about the ‘Last Days’. ‘ There will be war against Nations, Pain, Strife,…’ Which particular time in history has there been no war, pain or strife? It was even worse in times past. Very, very bad. Poverty was very rampant then. And it’s now greatly reduced in these present times as compared to ages ago. So tell me; Which particular time is the ‘Last Days’ exactly? Is there even a heaven or hell? If there is, then it means 99 % of Africans from the times Jesus died till about the 1900s when the Europeans arrived and spread Christianity all went to hell. Are you crazy? I hear of miracles happening in mosques and churches. Isn’t that proof that Religion is real? These so-called miracles happen in third world countries. They never happen in developed countries where every kid has an Iphone to film it. It’ll never happen in the U.S.A where scientists rush to the site to prove whether the miracle was real or not. It”ll only happen in Nigeria, Brazil or some other developing country where they know people believe things without question. |

For the lovers of ‘Star Trek’- the movie, this is for you. You’re late for school and you have this huge test coming up… You don’t see any bus approaching then you activate some things on yourself and zaaaappppp… You’re in school! Cool huh?! Or you travel for hours and on getting to your destination you realize you left your purse… Activate those things again and zaaaappppp… You’re home, you get your purse, and ….zaaaaaaaaaaapppp! You’re back! Super cool, innit? Now all these might seem so much fun but only if we all know what it takes to make these kinda things possible. Tons and tons of work! Now this disappearing and re appearing of a thing has a name. It’s called Teleporting. What is Teleporting? Teleporting is simply the movement of matter and or energy from one point to another without physically moving through the said distance. We see this in so many fiction books, movies and regular TV shows. Some people might think that isn’t possible but sorry to burst your bubble….. Teleporting is possible! And for Star Trek lovers, sorry to burst yours too…. Teleporting is not possible for humans just yet- though we’re getting close. As of now, the only kind of teleporting that can be done is Quantum Teleportation. Quantum Teleportation. Quantum Teleportation is the transfer of quantum information between two locations which have previously been “entangled” through much coded systems. It is a very complex system which basically involves transportation of quantum information. For example, the exact position and motion of a particle. Quantum teleportation has majorly been successful with the quantum states of photons. This is first done by creating an entanglement between the teleportation point and the photon’s destination. That entanglement is done by creating a ‘quantum channel’. This is the path through which the qubit, which possesses the quantum information of an atom, will travel. The teleportation also requires the establishment of a classical communication link because two classical bits would be required to accompany the qubit, serving as a medium. This form of teleportation still has its limitations. In an atom, only the qubit is transferrable but the physical matter consisting of the nucleus and the electrons are untransferrable. Simply put, only energy can be teleported and not matter. Teleportation Simplified… A simple way of putting the long scientific explanation of the process of teleportation of humans, if possible, is… The matter (human body) and their data which is the DNA are first broken down to access the atoms. It is a destructive process which technically means killing the person. To do this, the position and momentum of each particle has to be determined which totally goes against Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle which is yet to be disproved. The matter would have to be scanned, broken down and transferred within a very short period of time to avoid constructing a dead person at the other end. To do this, large amount of bandwidth is needed as 1027 bits of data are required to be able to assess and specify correctly the position and destination of each atom in the human body. That amount of data is approximately 10,000 times the amount of total storage capacity on all computers worldwide. Then, the assembling of the body parts at the desired destination must not take time at all because while some other body parts are still being constructed, those that have already been will start to die while the construction of the other parts are still on- going. To cap it all up, all these might be possible but there is no assurance that it’s the same “you” as a person that will be recreated at the other end. Personality, attitude and co. So, Star Trek lovers, we aint there yet… For those who think its impossible, we’re getting there. Lovers of Star Trek, believers of the impossible, unbelievers of the impossible…. Sit tight… Y’all gonna be shocked. Science is going crazzzzy! Pls do try and leave comments to encourage the writer, share your thoughts and let us know your opinions. Gracias Amigos! |
Ever wondered how these magicians control things with their hands? Or how those Asians in movies sit on a mat and later end up floating? Or how ‘motherconfessor’ confesses people in ‘Legend of the Seeker’? Or how Max and Phoebe in the TV series ‘The Thundermans’ perform their telekinesis moves? I’m sure you have lots of examples of the sort but to tell you, those things you see on TV are merely acted. They are portrayed as the use of the mind and hand movements or other gestures to control a ‘subject’ which is still all fake simply because they are merely acted. However, science has brought us close to the understanding that the human mind has more power than we all think it has. We just need to be able to access these abilities and that, inevitably will bring about a transformation to the human race and the world entirely. Lots of researches are still going on over this but now, I present to you a multidisciplinary field of study which brings together various scientific methods and tools to study and analyze the ways in which consciousness, intellect and the mind influence the physical world. Readers, I present to you…………… Noetic Sciences. The word ‘Noetic’ was coined from the Greek Word noēsis/ noētikos, meaning direct knowing, inner wisdom or subjective understanding. In 1902, a Greek philosopher, William James defined it as ‘states of insights into depth of truths unplumbed by the discursive intellect. They are illuminations, revelations, full of significance and importance, all inarticulate though they remain; and as a rule they carry with them a curious sense of authority’. Now, the history of noetic sciences cannot be left out in this write up. ‘Noetic sciences’ as a term came into being in the year 1973 when the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) was founded by Edgar Mitchell- the sixth man to walk on the moon in 1971 and a former Exxon executive, Paul Temple. When Edgar got back home from the moon, he described an experience he called Samadhi experience. He said he remembers his trip back home the most and felt a strong connection to the universe during the trip. Mitchell also claimed he felt a presence of divinity which he could easily reach out to and also deduced that life in the universe didn’t come into being by mistake or some random process. Noetic sciences take closer looks at establishing a far more complex relationship between the physical and non-physical, majorly consciousness and physical matter. As I said earlier, noetic scientists are still conducting researches on this field and as of now, conclusions cannot be made as noetic scientists are trying now, to measure …. Intuition, Prayer and even life after death. Creepy right? The IONS are the foremost researchers on this, aiding the study of consciousness by interns and young scientists who majorly synthesize various bodies of knowledge such as, practical studies of consciousness in healing and the science behind meditation thereafter, disseminating their summaries and resolving towards the next step to take. All these and more are possible through grants and aids, various disciplinary studies, encouraging collaborations and strategic meetings among scientists to spring up the evolution of new cross-disciplinary studies. Dan Brown’s book, “The Lost Symbol” goes a long way to promote this concept of Noetic science giving practical illustrations and a very nice storyline. I’d advice y’all to get it. You can get the softcopy online. Please do try to leave your comments, opinions and ideas on this. Thanks for reading. cc lalasticlala seun OAM4J |
Types of Meditation Spiritual Meditation: This kind of Meditation works well with those who pray and communicate well with God. It definitely requires a quiet and serene environment with a steady concentration on a particular problem, situation and its possible solution. This type of meditation is not only relaxing but also has its physical and spiritual benefits. Movement Meditation: This might seem tricky and intimidating at the same time. Moving your upper body in a slow circular motion, moving the arms in a slow swaying motion, concentrating on your breath patterns and the respective diaphragm movements is what does the trick here. In this type, rather than concentrate on a sound or a particular image, one tries to drive his/her consciousness towards the movement of his/her body. Focused Meditation: The main benefit of this kind of meditation is that it definitely leaves you refreshed and lets your mind “be able to concentrate well”. As the name implies, this type basically requires you to focus your mind on a particular sound, thought, image or object without letting your mind sway away or lose focus. Mindfulness Meditation: This is the most popular and well-known kind of meditation. It requires you to let your mind have a flow of thoughts. Unlike the focused meditation which streamlines your thoughts to a particular thing, Mindfulness meditation requires you to focus on a lot of things, not at once, but simultaneously and can also be performed during our day-to-day activities such as walking, driving, eating, etc. Mantra Meditation: This kind of meditation might seem odd because the person meditating will be required to shout a word or series of words. The repetition of such word(s) produces a constant and familiar vibration within such person which he/she focuses his/her attention on and automatically the mind tunes itself to concentrating on the word(s). Simple Tutorial on how to Meditate. I shall combine all 5 types into one single method: First is to get a comfortable spot Choose a Mantra: A mantra is a word, so to say, which you recite while meditating. Sit comfortably: Have a tall spine, hands on laps and don’t feel ‘too’ comfortable to avoid sleeping off. Clear your mind and free your mind With your eyes closed, breathe in and out deeply for about 10 times. Take moments to observe your body: Try to direct your sense of feelings to the various parts of your body in contact with something else. Slowly and taking each of them one by one; Try to feel your palms on your laps, where your butt touches the chair, the bending of your knees and where your feet touch the ground. You can then practice either of the types of meditation discussed above. Try to focus on your God with your thoughts, praying internally without losing focus, try to move your body in slow, steady movements that your mind can follow. You can also have an image in front of you, study each inch and detail of the object without moving too much or losing focus, pay attention to sounds around you- like the sounds of birds chirping, the sound of your breath, the sound of the stillness of air and finally, you can try humming or singing a mantra. Just before ending, go over the fifth step, observe your body: Where your feet touch the ground, where your body touches the chair and so on. Then finally, create an awareness of the next five tasks you are going to perform after standing up like brushing teeth, going to bathe and try as much as possible to follow the pattern which you imagined. Now, you then stand up slowly and proceed with the day’s tasks. You can get pictorial help and further description here: http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/gallery/2011/jan/22/how-to-meditate-ten-steps-headspace |
What is Meditation? Meditation can be defined as the conscious act of giving paramount attention to one thing or a couple of things either as a religious act or as a way or relaxing. Before now, meditation has actually been used to understand the mystical forces of life but now, it is merely used for relaxing. There is really not much talk as to the meaning of meditation as virtually everyone knows how it is done. Most times in Asian movies, we see a man sitting down, crossed legs, hands on his thighs, closing his eyes and all that stuff. Today, I’ll sorta be giving you a little bit insight as to how these things work and their benefits. Firstly, there has been no scientific explanation to how it works. Science only tells us its benefits and what it does. Now, a study of people who were trained to meditate within eight weeks showed saw increased electrical activity in regions of the left frontal lobe, an area that tends to be more active in optimistic people. Nevertheless, science has still been unable to connect the dots between meditation and the effects it has on people. Without much ado, lets go to the health benefits of meditation. A study proved that meditation improves people’s physical and emotional responses to stress majorly lowing blood pressure and also improving the immune system against diseases though the mechanism through which this works isn’t clear. One very good thing about meditation is that after ending a session, the effects can carry you all through the day. Benefits of Meditation. The benefits are quite much but I’ll endeavour to post as many as I can. Meditation does the following: It lowers blood pressure. It improves the immune system. Helps with anxiety problems. Helps with sleep problems. Meditation activates the ‘rest and digest’ part of the nervous system which helps with stress related problems. Meditation helps promote ‘Divergent Thinking’- A type of thinking that allows the development of many new ideas. It helps filter out other mental processes during creative mental tasks. Helps to increase self awareness. It helps improve emotional stability. It produces a sharp and clear mind with expanded consciousness. Produces minds that stay focused on a single task for longer periods and make less switches. Meditation has a lot of other benefits but these are the few I can lay my hands on. It isn’t a common practice amongst Nigerians, Africans majorly. Many think its fetish but believe me, its not. You can even incorporate religion into it. Prayer, for example can be used as a form of meditation. Apart from communicating with our creator, it helps us relax (depending on the kind of prayer now), gives us a focused mind, creates a sense of awareness of our mind and ‘zeros’ our mind to the creator whom we are praying to. In my next article on meditation, I’ll let y’all know different kinds on meditation there are, and also steps to a simple short meditation exercise. Till then, stay healthy, eat well, exercise regularly and rest well. Ciao cc seun lalasticlala dominique |

The world of physics was abuzz last week with the historic announcement of the first-ever detection of gravitational waves. But why is it such a big deal? By Sabrina Stierwalt, PhD. on February 24, 2016 Last week marked the historic announcement of the first detection of gravitational waves. A big press conference was held, and physicists around the world celebrated. The discovery was even compared to Galileo looking through a telescope for the first time. So why all the fanfare? Why are gravitational waves such a huge deal? Last week marked the historic announcement of the first detection of gravitational waves. A big press conference was held, and physicists around the world celebrated. The discovery was even compared to Galileo looking through a telescope for the first time. So why all the fanfare? Why are gravitational waves such a huge deal? 1. GRAVITATIONAL WAVES ARE AN ENTIRELY NEW WAY OF OBSERVING THE UNIVERSE Astronomers observe the universe across the electromagnetic spectrum, from X-ray and ultraviolet through optical and down to radio frequencies. Emission in each of these frequency ranges provides different information and thus a different perspective on our astronomical points of interest. For example, we know that there are millions of stars clustered toward the center of our Galaxy which emit mostly at optical wavelengths, but there is also a lot of dust near the Galactic center as well. So to study those dust-enshrouded stars, astronomers must observe them at either infrared wavelengths (where the dust emits) or radio wavelengths (which can penetrate through the dust more effectively than shorter optical wavelengths). All of these wavelengths offer a unique perspective on the universe, but they are all the same kind of light, electromagnetic radiation, and so behave in similar, understood ways. Gravitational waves are an entirely new phenomenon different from anything on the electromagnetic spectrum. In 1915, Albert Einstein proposed a radically different way of looking at gravity with his theory of general relativity. Rather than thinking of gravity as a force pushing and pulling massive objects in different directions, he described gravity as being manifested in a curvature of spacetime. In other words, the space (and time) around a massive object is curved, which then dictates how passing objects can move through that space. This may sound crazy, but we can actually observe many of the effects predicted by Einstein’s theory. For example, general relativity informs us that time passes more slowly by an ever so small margin down here on Earth than it does for GPS satellites in orbit, an effect known as time dilation, a result of the curvature of spacetime. Without adjusting for this small time difference in our satellite communications, we would never get to where we are trying to go. A consequence of the general relativity framework is that when objects accelerate through this warping of spacetime, they produce ripples known as gravitational waves. These waves propagate through space, compressing it in one direction and stretching it in another. The frequencies predicted for these fluctuations are within the human hearing range. We can hear gravitational waves and already scientists and artists have teamed up to explore other artistic interpretations of their sound. So why did it take 100 years to detect them? These ripples are tiny, on order of a thousandth of the size of a proton nucleus, so we need a pretty violent event to occur to produce enough of them for us to detect. We also need, of course, a very sensitive detector. 2. The Instrument That Made the Gravitational Wave Detection Is the Most Precise Measuring System Ever Built To detect such tiny distortions in spacetime, physicists use a technique called laser interferometry. A focused beam of light is sent in different directions to bounce back and forth between two sets of mirrors before being sent to a detector. If a gravitational wave passes by the interferometer during all of this bouncing, the distance between the mirrors will change ever so slightly and this change will translate to a difference in the two signals as measured by the detector. Not only is the signal from gravitational waves incredibly weak, there is also a significant amount of competing noise attempting to drown it out. To increase the detectability of such a signal against the background noise, the path the laser travels must be a long one. The Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO), the instrument that made the historic detection, is four kilometers long on each side. The detectors are further suspended in the air in hopes of isolating the slightly faster wiggles due to gravitational waves from terrestrial interference. To further fight back against false detections, LIGO has not one but two detectors: one in Hanford, Washington and the other in Livingston, Louisiana. Detecting the same signal at both, widely separated locations would mean that signal was likely not a local one. And that is exactly what happened on September 14, 2015—a signal with the precise characteristics predicted for gravitational waves was observed at both detectors only milliseconds apart. 3. We Now Know That Massive Black Holes Can Merge to Create Even Bigger Black Holes Famous theoretical physicist and author Kip Thorne described the event that produced the detected gravitational waves as a “violent storm in the fabric of space and time”. Around 1.3 billion years ago, when multicellular life was just beginning here on Earth, two black holes orbiting each other began to close in on one another. As these dense objects got closer, they began to accelerate to nearly half the speed of light in the presence of their shared strong gravitational field – the perfect mix for producing gravitational waves. From fitting the waveform of the gravitational wave detection and comparing it to simulations done with a supercomputer, astronomers can tell that the two black holes were originally 29 and 36 times the mass of our Sun. They merged to form a 62 solar mass black hole which means that an amount three times the mass of our Sun was emitted away as energy in the form of gravitational waves, all in the 20 milliseconds it took for the collision to happen! That’s a power output of 50 times greater than all of the power put out by all of the stars in the universe put together. Before this first detection, astronomers were not even sure that mergers between black holes existed, and now the details of this particular event are known to a high degree of certainty. 4. Hundreds of People Had to Take a Huge Risk to Make This Detection Possible Einstein predicted the existence of gravitational waves 100 years ago but at the time, there was significant doubt that such weak signals could ever be detected. In 1992, LIGO became the largest investment the National Science Foundation had ever made. The investment was a risky one–the existence of gravitational waves was only theoretical, and their signal, even if they were real, would be impossible to detect without the construction of an instrument larger than any other measurement device previously built. In fact, the initial operations of LIGO between 2002 and 2010 came up empty-handed. However, when the new and improved advanced LIGO came online with its increased sensitivity, it detected a signal that was so clear it could be seen by eye almost immediately. 5. With Our New Ears on the Universe, We Will Likely Make Discoveries We Haven’t Even Thought of Yet Arguably the most exciting part of this new discovery is that it’s only the beginning! The ease with which LIGO detected the signal suggests that there will be many more to come and that we won’t have to wait long for them either. The LIGO detectors are not even at their full planned sensitivity yet and so detections will get easier. The success of LIGO will also likely help other, similar projects get funded, and in fact it likely already has with the prime minister of India voicing support for LIGO India. Other efforts include KAGRA in Japan, VIRGO in Italy, and the already operational GEO600 in Germany. Using multiple detectors in concert will further help pinpoint the origin of the gravitational wave signals. The LISA project (i.e., the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna), which has experienced funding woes since NASA bowed out in 2011 and the project was picked up entirely by European agencies, would also send gravitational wave detectors into space. This would open up the possibility of detecting signals with much longer periods (on the order of minutes or hours rather than milliseconds) not currently possible with LIGO. Gravitational waves are predicted to arise from co-orbiting black holes like the system detected in September 2015, but also from binary systems with other compact objects like neutron stars. But gravitational waves are also fundamentally different from the electromagnetic radiation that we know so well. So really, who knows what we will find? cc lalasticlala seun Fynestboi |

This is to explain to those of us who do not understand economic terms. The Dollar has not actually increased since Buhari became President. Just go through the following and gain something. The facts are stated below: 1)Dollar is not our currency so dollar should not be our business. 2)Our problem with the exchange rate is not the government rather , it is our importers and consumers. 3)Naira has remained at 197 Naira to 1 Dollar since Buhari became President. 4)President Buhari has promised not to devalue the Naira and he has maintained that promise. 5)Both at the CBN and at inter-bank rates, Dollar has remained 197 Naira. 6)However, because we are too lazy to produce what we use in Nigeria, we import even toothpicks and matches. 7)President Buhari does not like the importation of luxury goods because they are the major reason for corruption. That's why he banned 41 certain products from having access to Forex. 8 ) When Nigerian Importers insisted on importing those 41 products, the Federal Government of Nigeria asked them to find their Dollar at the Bereau De Change parallel market also known as "Black Market" 9)And to discourage the pressure Nigerians are mounting on the Naira just to get Dollars for importation, CBN banned Department of Management and Budgets from selling Dollars to "Bereau De Change" 10)To survive the pressure of excess Dollar demands, Bereau De Change resorted to sourcing for dollars from neighbouring countries through illicit money laundering routes. 11)Because of the risks faced by the Bereau De Change to source for Dollars, and because of the increase in demand for dollars by importers because China just resumed from their business holidays, Bereau De Change keep increasing the price at which they exchange Dollars to Naira which now is 400 Naira for One Dollar. 12)Be as it may, it does not mean that Government has changed the exchange rate because if our genuine importers go to CBN and fill form to import raw materials for local production, they will get One Dollar at 197 Naira. 13)So, the problem is that we love to consume luxury foreign products yet we are too lazy to manufacture them here. Given all these, please Nigerians, let us endeavor to support local production of the petty products we use at least to vamp up our economy and also purchase Nigerian products over International ones to help our economy rise again. cc lalasticlala seun dominique Source: http://www.themchub.com/2016/02/facts-concerning-the-naira-dollar-exchange-rate-we-all-should-know/ |

If you missed the first part, you can read it here: https://www.nairaland.com/2946527/journey-blogger-wordpress#43103875 After the change of domain name, we felt so happy. Finally! We wouldn’t be referred to as “hungry- bloggers”. We immediately informed those we sought advice from earlier and made the change known to our subscribers. Apparently, they were happy and impressed with how fast and committed we were to change and develop. After that, we continued our normal posting and publicity while patiently waiting for our Google search rankings to rise up. We were so anxious for our blog to be seen on Google’s first page on search results but nothing was forthcoming. We then checked Google, YouTube and other search engines like Ask, Bing for ways to make our Search Engine Rank Positions (SERPs) improve. We got various options like signing up on Google Webmasters, Google Analytics, pinging our website, submitting our web URLs to Search Engines, submitting our sitemaps, editing our robots.txt file, having a lot of valid backlinks and a whole lot of other options like that. Not to say these methods don’t work but from a lot of other articles written by experienced bloggers, using blogger in any way is not advisable, has a poor SEO and only very few and trusted blogger blogs make it to the first page of Google’s search results. Some days later, I got into a discussion with a senior colleague in my department and he spoke strongly against blogger as he had once used it before porting to WordPress. He then advised me to port as soon as I got the opportunity to. Now, that wasn’t much of a problem as I had once worked with WordPress but the problem was having a completely new design, losing all my previous posts, comments and starting from the scratch. It was hard to think of it even. Till today, I still cannot pinpoint how I knew my main worry could be resolved. There was or is a way I could port all my posts, drafts and comments from blogger without losing even a punctuation mark. It’s called Exporting. Blogger had the option of compressing all the posts, drafts and comments into an xml file then going to WordPress and unpacking them. Eventually, we bought a hosting plan from the same webhost I bought my domain name from and immediately opened up a manual I had previously written for myself on how to upload a WordPress website online. I actually did all the design and importation offline so all I had to do was just upload. Following the normal process, after receiving my login details from my hosting company, I logged into my c-panel, compressed my web files into a zip format and then tried to upload them using the file manager of my C-panel but all was to no avail, reasons, I do not know. I talked to Babs who suggested I used File Zilla. I got File Zilla and when I tried uploading, it seemed long and unending, thanks to Nigeria’s poor internet service. Finally, I got all the files uploaded after so much errors and retries. I then went to my wp-config file and edited the username, database name and password, saved it and was ready to rock and roll. I typed in my blog’s URL and clicked Enter! I was getting a 500 error. I went back to my manual and tried all I could, still I was getting the same error. I tried using Google to check for what the problem might be but I was getting no headway. After a while, I showed an experienced programmer, he went to my error log and we deciphered that one of the files I tried uploading didn’t upload well so I had to start over. Eventually, I re-uploaded the files and I was ready to go. Then there came a new error. A redirection loop! I edited my wp-config files in different ways possible but I was still getting the same error. Then I remembered I didn’t disconnect my blogger account from the website URL. I did that but still, it was the same error. I searched Google for a possible solution again and saw different ones. I edited my htaccess file, did a lot of other stuff but it was still the same error. I then checked my phpmyadmin tab in my c-panel and realized I didn’t upload my tables from my offline localhost. So, I got my tables compressed and then uploaded them. Edited my wp-options table accordingly and then saved all my changes. I then tried accessing my website using its URL and….. Voila! It was up and running! I immediately sent a text to my partner. Mehn! My joy knew no bounds. After so much travails, I overcame them. Soon enough, I installed Yoast SEO plugin and a few other important plugins, then I re-submitted my website URL to Google Search Index. After a while, I searched for some of my posts and they came up on the first page of Google’s search results. Now, I’m just going to activate my email service and move on to greater things. I hope this actually helps someone in some way. Cheers! cc haryomikun |
Earlier this year in January, we heard of the Wizkid-Dammy Krane Saga in which the Modern Fuji styled artiste accused Wizkid of stealing his idea for hit track Final {Baba Nla}. A claim which Kwam 1’s daughter affirmed to be true. And i thought, ‘Oh… That’s unfortunate but it happens in the Nigerian music industry’. But in recent times, as a DJ, I have been listening to and reading more about Nigerian Old School music {I wasn’t born in the early 1990s you know}. I read more about Fela, listened to some of his music and noticed little similarities between he and Wizkid when it comes to afro beats. I was listening to one of Fela’s tracks {Can't even remember the title} and noticed some of the lyrics of the track, ‘If you call woman african woman she no go gree, she go say i be lady ahh.’ I knew i had heard the lyrics somewhere and immediately remembered ‘Jaiye Jaiye’ in which the Starboy C.E.O featured Femi Kuti. While reading up on Fela too on Wikipedia, I also discovered ‘Expensive S**t’ was the title to one of Fela’s albums back in the days. The same title was given to one of Wizkid’s latest tracks that was heavily influenced by Afro beats instruments. Am sorry but isn’t an artiste supposed to be original? Kiss Daniel sang ‘Good Time’, was totally original and the track even had lyrical meaning. People were able to judge that from the official video directed by Aje Filmworks. Wizkid’s also got a habit of jumping on dope music covers. ‘Good Time’ is the latest. When someone sent me a track with the title ‘Kiss Daniel X Wizkid – Good Time Remix’ on BBM i was like ‘Woah, this is gonna be really cool’ and downloaded it to my phone. I immediately listened to it because I love the original track so much and couldn’t wait to hear a collaboration between the two superstar artistes. All i heard was Wizkid rephrasing what Kiss Daniel did in the original track and discovered it was a cover not a collabo. I hissed and deleted the track pronto. Was really disappointed. Same thing this guy did with ‘Lamba’ by Hakym The Dream and Iyanya’s Sexy Mama. I consider it an act of bullying by an A-list artiste jumping on a fast rising artiste’s track cover knowing full well their versions will be listened to more widely than the original track. The lyrics on tracks like hits ‘In my Bed’ was totally off. From talking about a girl whose body he wants in his bed to hailing politicians was totally off. We all miss that ‘Holla at your boy’, ‘Tease Me’ and ‘Don’t Dull’ crooner. But is he ever going to come back to us? Maybe Wizkid has run out of lyrics and doesn't have anything to sing again. He certainly hasn’t released any mind-blowing track after Ojuelegba sung in 2014. We can’t really conclude can we? I guess we’ll just have to watch and see. www.themchub.com/2016/02/was-wizkid-ever-original-with-his-music/ cc airmark lalasticlala ishilove Dominique seun

Every artiste wants his/her music heard. But many don't know the right way to go about it. Some think it's by doing jingles for various DJs. Others think it's by online publicity alone. Here, I want to outline ways that could help in moving an artiste from the upcoming artiste category. But first, let me say this... If you are into music for hustle {Not because you have talent} so you can make some money and you are hoping to blow, let me advice you, kuku comot now so you won't waste any more money on studio recording or on the mixing and mastering engineer. The music market isn't what it was back then in 2006. Then we could count the number of artistes but now, the market is too damn large for people to notice all. What i want to point out below is how you can stand out from other upcoming artistes and maybe even create a fan base. 1. You need a lot of money My brother, na so we see am oh. The root of all problems is what helps to build your career as an artiste. That's why i said above that if you're moving into music so you can "blow by chance" and make some money, stop now so you won't waste resources that can be used to build up another hustle. However, how is money needed in the equation? It's expalined in my next point. 2. Creating a well planned budget for enough publicity With enough dough, you'll get the right kind of publicity. Thing is, publicity is all-rounder. Online publicity, PRs, Radio Airplay, DJs {Both club and street DJs} and as the track progresses, a video. Keep in mind that a dope track that doesn't receive publicity will die a natural death. I'll explain the importance of each of the following publicity measures. a. Online publicity ====> We are in the age of computers. A lot of Nigerians have access to the internet. Uploading of your tracks to top sites in Nigeria will give it some publicity. Believe it or not, there are people that will download your track even if they don't know you for reasons perharps best known to them. To do this, you need your track uploaded on at least three top sites in Nigeria with large fan bases. b. PRs ====> When people check for tracks online, they only want to hear songs by Olamide, Wikid, Davido and so on. Very very few of them know you. Now you need to give them a reason to download your track. This is where PRs come in. The PRs are the ones that persuade people to download your track from all others. They are the craziest in the chain of publicity. Lol. They BC your track day and night on BBM, W hatsapp, Facebook, Twitter and whatever social media they are active on. They exactly know how to get people's attention. They could be expensive at times. They best way to get PRs are meeting up with top bloggers like Linda Ikeji, Bella Naija, The CHNG Blog and so many others. They also help your track being uploaded on other blogs at times. Note: Keep in mind that there are lots of scammers online and the best is to get the "contact us" info from the website or blog. c. Radio Airplay ====> Some people have access to the internet or particularly don't enjoy it. Like the older population, little children and the working population {Usually when driving to and from their places of work} I can't really talk much on this arm of publicity because I don't have a lot of links in this area. But I'd recommend paying for at least three- month packages on four top radios in the metropolis close to where you are based. d. DJs {Club and street DJs} ====> A DJ is always needed in proving to people that your tracks can be grooved to and enjoyable. Tracks like Expensive S**t, Osinachi Remix and Woju can't normally be grooved to until a DJ plays them and increases the tempo. Club DJs play your track to party rockers until it gets noticed. Streets DJs however, make mixtapes that are usually uploaded online and downloaded by many. If your track is included, it'll be downloaded when people notice it and check up the tracklist. Street DJs could sometimes be contacted for Industry mixtapes on top sites. I myself have downloaded tracks from mixtapes because i enjoyed them. But the thing was the DJs always made the track "sweeter" 3. Getting signed on to a label When you get signed onto a label, you automatically do not need to publicise yourself or particularly need money as listed above. The label takes care of that. Having good online presence is a great way that might get you signed onto a good label. Ask Korede Bello or Reekado. Bonus Point For Higher Institution students only Meet up with different schools' SUG social secretaries {Including yours}, different bloggers local to their respective schools and event planners in schools so you can be invited for different shows to get you noticed. You however need to be highly mobile for this to be effective. With my above points, I believe any upcoming artiste should be on the way to fame after applying these measures smartly. With time, you'll surely get recognized. If you still aren't after a long period of time, my brother/sister, contact the customer care of your village witches to see if they still have active subscription on your head. With the global economy reeling from plunging oil prices occasioned by massive over production, Nigeria, a key member of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), which depends hugely on oil revenue for its foreign exchange, has requested an emergency meeting to discuss steps to possibly cut down oil production and prop up oil prices. But Nigeria’s call has been opposed by Iran, another prominent OPEC member, which claimed that the time is not yet right for such an intervention. Minister of state for petroleum resources, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, made the call for an OPEC emergency while speaking at a panel session at the ongoing World Economic Forum at Davos, Switzerland, adding Nigeria’s voice to those of OPEC members, such as Venezuela, that are requesting an emergency meeting of the oil-producing nations to address the current oil crisis. Speaking at the session, Kachikwu stated that with the oil industry in its current state, the members of the OPEC, which produce about one-third of the world’s oil, needed to do something proactive soon. He said, “There is a lot of energy around trying to meet earlier. Obviously, some of that is a panic reaction. Do we just sit back and watch? Or do we put more efforts in talking to countries, like Russia, to try to get some consensus of what we need to be doing?” However, Iran disagreed with the premise of an emergency meeting as the country’s oil minister, Bijan Zanganeh, stated that the organisation currently has little intention of making a drastic change. “There should be an intention to make a firm decision in such a meeting; otherwise, the meeting will have negative impacts on world oil markets. The important thing is that there must be an intention for change, but we have not yet received such a signal,” the oil minister said, according to Reuters. As the global economy heads for what is potentially a very volatile year, analysts have said that OPEC, which requires a consensus from all its members before it initiates a change, has to make a decision very soon. Following the crash of oil price from an average of $114 a barrel in 2014 to less than $30 a barrel presently, Nigeria’s economy, as well as those of many other oil-dependent countries, has had an economic depreciation. Nigeria’s budget is benchmarked at $38 per barrel of oil as the country needs oil price to rally to fund its budget. Some OPEC members such as Venezuela had called for emergency meeting but others such as Saudi Arabia, said to have an eye on the happenings in Iran as regards oil production, is yet to make a categorical statement on the matter. There’s No Tension Between Iran and Saudi Arabia – Koozechi Following the ongoing rift between two Middle East heavy weights, Iran and Saudi Arabia, over the execution of Iran’s top cleric, Sheikh Nimr Al Nimr, the Iranian ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Saeed Koozechi has said that there’s no tension as such between both countries. Speaking in an exclusive interview with LEADERSHIP, the envoy stated that even though Iran was very unhappy with Al Nimr’s execution by Saudi Arabia, both countries are not having a regional conflict. He also stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran also regretted the burning of the Saudi Embassy in Tehran, saying some hoodlums took advantage of the situation by taking the laws into their hands. “We condemn the unfortunate situation in very strong terms and we are happy that the police was able to put the situation under control and no Saudi diplomat was injured in the incident. “In fact, over 60 arrests have been made while the matter is being investigated and the culprits will soon be charged to court’’, he added. On how the country is taking the severing of links by Saudi and some other countries with Iran, he said it is regrettable that Saudi Arabia was too quick in reacting the way it did, adding that it was proactive and also encouraged other countries to do same. Koozechi said he expected Saudi Arabia to have been more thoughtful and logical about the issue, instead of trying to overshadow their wrong doing. He said that although the executed cleric was a reformist and a critic of some of Saudi Arabian government’s policies, he never did anything to counter the security of the country to warrant the treatment meted out to him. He recalled that Al Nimr was arrested four years ago and was until his execution in detention, stating that the Iranian government was not aware if he had the services of a lawyer to defend him in court before his execution. Oil falls 3% on swelling oversupply Oil prices fell three per cent yesterday as Iraq announced record-high oil production, feeding into a heavily over-supplied market. Iraq’s oil ministry said oil output had reached a record high in December. Its fields in the central and southern regions produced as much as 4.13 million barrels a day, the government said. The oversupply has wiped out much of the gains made in one of the biggest-ever daily rallies last week. Brent crude, the global benchmark, was down 83 cents at $31.35 a barrel at 1247 GMT, losing 2.6 per cent from its closing price on Friday, when Brent surged 10 per cent. U.S. crude traded 85 cents lower at $31.34 a barrel. A senior Iraqi oil official said the country might raise output even further this year. “The news that Iraq has probably hit another record builds on the oversupply sentiment,” said Hans van Cleef, senior energy economist at ABN Amro in Amsterdam. “The oversupply will keep markets depressed and prices low, and on the other hand short positions are in excessive territory.” The closing of large amounts of short positions had caused a huge rally on Friday that was largely undone again on Monday, creating huge volatility in the oil market. In a sign that investors expect oil prices to rebound, data from Intercontinental Exchange showed speculators raised net positions of Brent crude in the week ending January 19. Fundamental factors remained bearish. Indonesia’s OPEC governor said support among the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) for taking steps to prop up crude prices is slim. The governor said only one OPEC country supported an emergency meeting over the matter. Striking a more bullish tone, the group’s Secretary-General Abdullah al-Badri said at a separate event in London that he saw some signs the market was rebalancing. He also said OPEC and non-OPEC producers needed to work together to tackle oversupply in order to prop up oil prices. The chairman of Saudi’s Aramco said on the sidelines of a different conference on Monday that oil prices would ultimately balance at a moderate level as demand continued to rise. In the U.S., one of OPEC’s largest production rivals, a further drop in the number of oil rigs was expected to weigh on output. U.S. investment bank Goldman Sachs said it expected production to decline by 95,000 barrels per day in 2016, including well deferrals, higher than previously assumed. OPEC Sec-Gen Urges Non-OPEC To Help Clear Oil Stocks Overhang OPEC and non-OPEC oil producers need to jointly tackle global stocks overhang to enable oil prices recover with investments in new fields, OPEC secretary-general, Abdullah al-Badri, said yesterday. “It is vital the market addresses the issue of the stock overhang. As you can see from previous cycles, once this overhang starts falling, then prices start to rise,” he told a conference in London. “Given how this developed, it should be viewed as something OPEC and non-OPEC tackle together. Yes, OPEC provided some of the additional supply last year, but the majority of this has come from non-OPEC countries,” he noted. He said it was crucial that major producers came up with a solution, as the market needed to see inventories come down to levels that would allow prices to recover and encourage investments. “The current environment is putting this future at risk. At current price levels, it is clear that not all of the necessary future investment is viable,” he said. Its no news that South Africa houses some of the best producers in the world {Yes, even better than Americans IMO} Some have produced really dope beats which gained popularity in their homeland but were made more popular by their Nigerian counterparts. We wanna talk about five of the biggest though. 1. Lento by Professor The Afro House beats were jumped upon by none other than the Free Madness Crooner, Terry G. The beats we gyrated to in See Groove was actually produced by South African producer and musician, Professor. 2. Ovia Orlando DJ Vetkuk Remember the recent club banger, Elegushi Spenders by Olalakeside? Yeah, those beats were later recreated by another producer {whose name i do not know} and converted from its traditional Afro house genre into Dancehall. Not only Olalakeside though,,, Base One and Legely did the same.Although Elegushi Spenders was the one most accepted and rocked to by Nigerians. Honestly how the track blew with its whack lyrics {sorry, with its shouting}, I dont know. 3. Khona By Mafikizolo Sung in 2013, produced by the popular South African, Uhuru, this track received radio airplay mostly by Beats 99FM and Cool FM. And once again, Terry G re-appeared and released Ora with those same beats {why baba like to dey tiff na}. Danny Young later followed suit with Ole. 4. Y-Tjukutja By Uhuru, Oskido Wire rozaaay! Wire! we poppin' champagne, hennessy.... The lyrics off Famous's street banger, Wire master. Though the beats were reproduced by Jay Pizzle but we still cant be deceived bro. We all heard the similarities in the beats clearly. 5. Zenze Remix By Uhuru Recreated by 2T Boys and featured veteran rapper Seriki and featuring street artiste, Small Doctor in the track Customer Dada Ni. The track can't really be called a national banger though. Its more of a street hit. American Billionaire and Republican
Presidential Front-runner, Donald Trump, has
shot a subtle warning to the Nigerian
Community in the United States, after he said
all Nigerians would be made to leave the
country “when he becomes President”. He made the “threat” during a rally at Wichita, Kansas. According to Donald Trump, Nigerians ad Mexicans have taken all the jobs meant for honest hard working Americans. “To Make America great again, we need to get rid of the Muslims, Mexicans and the Africans, especially the Nigerians. They take all our jobs, jobs meant for honest hard working Americans, and when we don’t give them the jobs, the Muslims blow us up” , Trump said. “We need to get the Africans out. Not the blacks, the Africans. Especially the Nigerians. They’re everywhere. I went for a rally in Alaska and met just one African in the entire state. Where was he from? Nigeria! He’s in Alaska taking our jobs. They’re in Houston taking our jobs. Why can’t they stay in their own country? Why? I’ll tell you why. Because they are corrupt. Their Governments are so corrupt, they rob the people blind and bring it all here to spend. And their people run away and come down here and take our jobs! We can’t have that! If I become president, we’ll send them all home. We’ll build a wall at the Atlantic Shore. Then maybe we’ll re-colonize them because obviously they did not learn a damn thing from the British!” His speech was met with raucous applause by the 10,000 strong predominantly Caucasian audience. What this portends for Nigeria in the event of the Trump victory is still unclear, but the Nigerian Ambassador to the US has so far allayed fears of all Nigerians living in the USA, although we gather he has secretly packed his bags and is set to move to Mexico or Canada if Trump becomes President. www.themchub.com/2016/01/breaking-donald-trump-warns-nigerians.html?m=1 cc lalasticlala ishilove Dominique |
7 years after the final season of the sensational TV series 'Prison Break', Fox has released news filling intentions to continue the series. 5 months ago, Fox got a pilot script order and the 'Prison Break Revival' is set to roll out in series soon. The continuation is set to cover up the period between Season 4 and the Final season previously aired. Star characters, Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell who played the roles of Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows in the series have been signed on to take over their previous roles while talks are still underway with Robert Knepper(T-bag) and Sarah Wayne Callies (Sara) to take over their own roles too. Though, all the cast in the previous ones may not be present. Miller and Purcell said earlier this week that they would make their periods of availability known for the filming of the Prison Break revival as filming is set to begin around March. The Fox drama’s original producing team still remains the same including the likes of Paul T. Scheuring, Neal Moritz, Marty Adelstein and Dawn Olmstead who will produce the new series and serve as the executives, with Paul serving as the major showrunner. www.themchub.com/2016/01/popular-tv-series-prison-break-set-to.html?m=1 cc ishilove lalasticlala |
