I did not take Cardinal Arinze's matter too seriously when Okpalaeke was rejected by the Catholics in Mbaise, even though I knew of the arguments for and against. However, when Okpalaeke was appointed Cardinal in total disregard for the work and experience of the many other Archbishops that are in Nigeria, then I realised that cardinal Arinze's favouritism for Bishop Okpalaeke has no cure.

If the late Pope had decided to settle for a new Cardinal from Nigeria without relying on Cardinal Arinze's input, Bishop Okpalaeke would not have been on the list of contenders not to talk of being the one chosen of the lot.

The kind of favouritism we see in the workplace, where those with less experience and contributions to the company are promoted and fast-tracked to the top ahead of those who are actually doing more for the company, is what I see with the elevation that Okpalaeke has achieved to become Bishop and then Cardinal. Some will say it is grace but all I see is politics.

4) mbaise people rejected saying no to Bishop from. Awka.... Later accepted a Bishop from. Umuahia then later and mbaise Bishop was appointed

These are Bishops who manage larger diocese/archdiocese and been consecrated bishops many years before Arinze's favourite.

Arinze took his favouritism and tribalism all the way to Rome because he has Influence with the late Pope Francis.

We understood the logic behind how Archbishops Dominic Ekandem was appointed Cardinal by Pope John Paul II, and how same Pope later appointed Archbishops Arinze as Cardinal and much later Archbishop Okogie as Cardinal. We know the experience of Archbishop Onaiyekan before Pope Benedict VI appointed him Cardinal.

So how exactly will same Cardinal Arinze that knew his own and his peer's experience before they were elevated to Cardinal, then go ahead to recommend his protege to be cardinal from a very insignificant experience as Bishop of a small diocese?

Cardinal Arinze no try at all and serially abused his closeness to the late Pope, who expected he was being guided correctly.

Imagine how the Jonathan regime was treating a Governor, yet he was hailed for it by those who now claim our democracy is under threat.

Diploma will still remain, it is HND that will be removed.
The entry requirements for both students and staff will be adjusted to reflect that of BSc.
The major reason for the noise is the duration of the certificate and the use as cheap labour in the market.
Why should anyone use 5yrs for a coursework, then get a job with lower pay but employer choose to use such to carry out task of a degree holder??
Some organisations will recruit everyone together, having same job functions, but won't promote a class of certificate holders because of the title on their paper

You have highlighted a great deal of the peoblem.

It is only Nigeria that requires 5yrs tertiary education after high school diploma (WAEC, NECO), just to obtain HND.

Even Ghana with the same WAEC O'levels as Nigeria, only require 3yrs of tertiary education to obtain the HND.

Why is Nigeria so absurd?

The rest of the world understand HND to be a qualification you earn by spending a year less than a 4yr Bachelors degree, but Nigeria requires it own HND to be a year more than a 4yr Bachelors degree to get something that is meant to feed into the Bachelors degree.

I went to Fed Poly Offa, and YabaTech and I have three Masters degrees, currently running the fourth one. Don’t ask me what I’m doing with them, it’s not your business.

On my CV and on Linkedln, I list my education from ND, HND, PGD, MSc-1, MSc-2, MSc-3. I intentionally start from ND so that any viewer can see that I am a Polytechnic product and I am stubbornly proud of it.

However, Polytechnics have been scrapped in US and UK where Nigeria copied it from. As a matter of fact, one of the two foreign universities I attended and currently attend, used to be a Polytechni, but have been merged with another higher college and converted to a university. So, why is Nigeria hanging on a dead institution?

All Polytechnics should be merged with other colleges or universities. SIMPLE
