CHAPTER ONE Her sister- in-law had told her that nothing good would come out of having feelings for Jake Joseph. Maureen thought as she laid in her six spring mattress in the hostel. She tiredly shifted and wondered why she kept thinking and dreaming of Jake Joseph. 'I only lust for him. In two weeks, I will be out of this place and in Jake's bed' She quietly vowed. It wasn't as if Jake even knew she existed but she vow that he would, in a month. After all, it was because of Jake that she was in Lagos. She would sleep with him and then the lust would be gone and she would go back to her old life. Maureen Jason saw Jake, three years back at the wedding ceremony of her brother, Joel. Jake was in a tux and looking so handsome she felt like running and flinging herself on him. She moved to her brother and his wife and said boldly. 'Can you please introduce me to that man in tux?' Mich had looked at her long and hard and replied, 'That's Jake, Henry's younger brother' Maureen knew Henry, he was Mich elder brother, Jordan's best friend. She had visited Henry's house several times but why hadn't she met the younger brother?' 'Introduce us', she urged Mich. 'My friend, will you perform your role as my wife's chief bridesmaid before you get your heart broken?', her brother had snapped at her. But of course that didn't stop her from darting her eyes across him all through the ceremony. She had never in her life met a man so perfectly made. Definitely, God was in a happy mood when he made him. Before she had met Jake, Maureen fancied herself in love with Jordan Nicholas, her sister-in-law's brother. Where Jordan was tall, Jake was a foot shorter. He looked like an athlete, she could tell from the tux he was wearing that this was a man who spent a lot of his free time at the gym. His hair was black, and cut short but it was curled. He was dark and had that quiet innocent look around him. He was the kind of man that you would easily like. Maureen sighed, then hissed when she heard the biggle. She picked her blackberry bold 5 and looked at the time, it was 5am. If she were at home, she would still be in bed, sleeping. But this was not home, this was the National Youth Service Corps Orientation Camp, Iyana Ipaja, Lagos. This was her second week at the camp, yet she was not used to the activities of regimental life. At the sound of the biggle, the serenity of the hostel changed as shouts emanated from different floors. They all knew what it meant, failure to react to the sound would attract punishment. Today, Maureen didn't care to be punished, she just wished to lie down and fantasy about Jake. 'Beb, it seems you want to be punished today, again. Isn't it?' Kemi said to Maureen with a tap. 'Abeg, I am so fed up with this place. How soon will we be out of this prison?' 'Maureen, I thought you will ask about when our first alawee is coming. I am so damn broke', Kemi retorted while she adjusted her NYSC face cap and reapplied lip gloss on her lips. 'Money is not my problem', Maureen replied. ' Go girl. I know, not with that fine guy I saw dropped you last week. You know, you don hammer. I wish my boyfriend isn't so broke' 'Kemi, I told you he is not my bo, he is my brother-in-law and he is happily married with a child' 'Tell that to a kid. Will you buy me lunch?', kemi smiled. 'What about that your platoon officer, I thought you said he is loaded?' 'He is very stingy. Trust me, I allow him to you know, touch me a little. I need favour in my place of primary assignment. He promised to influence my posting to an oil firm' 'You believed him?' 'Yes. Not to worry my dear friend, I gave your name to him. He will help us' Maureen stared at Kemi. She was of average height, dark in complexion. Her bosoms were very small, but her hips wide. Her face was u-shaped and her teeth, white and healthy. Maureen had met Kemi a week ago after Justin had dropped her at the gate. kemi who had took a cab alighted and stared at Maureen. She walked and joined the queue while Maureen followed. None spoke to each other as their Nysc call-up letter was collected, their bags screened, and given a piece of paper indicating their bed space. At the hostel, they realized they were bunk mates. Maureen at the top and Kemi at the lower. 'Hi, I am Kemi and you are?' 'Maureen' 'Platoon 3. You?' Kemi asked again Platoon 8' Maureen answered 'Graduate of?' Kemi asked ' University of Abuja, Accounting. You?' 'University of Nsukka, Economics' 'Nice meeting you ' 'Nice meeting you too but Maureen, look at the mattress given to you. Surely your body will hurt', Kemi retorted Maureen spared a glance at the bunk and mattress. It looked dirty and used up. She almost shouted in anger. 'I will go and tell those admin a piece of my mind', Maureen said and began walking away. 'Hey Maureen. You are surely an Ajebo. Or didn't you stay in the hostel while schooling?' 'No' Before Maureen could talk, kemi had quickly exchange the mattress on maureen's bed with the one opposite them. 'Now, this is how you do it' At that point in time, a fat lady came in. She looked rich and spoilt. She stood in front of the bunk opposite theirs and looked at the piece of paper in her hand. When she was satisfied that she was at the right place, her smile disappeared. 'What in the heck? No, I can't sleep in that thing', she shouted. Maureen and kemi looked at each other but kept mute. The lady began crying. 'Beb, I'm sure you can manage this', kemi said innocently. Another lady, fair and short came close and whispered something into the new arrival's ear. She stopped crying and looked at Kemi. 'How dare you exchange the mattress' 'Are you talking to me?', kemi asked. 'Yes, I am talking to you, you bi.ch. Do you know who I am? Do you know who my father is?' 'Who are you?', Maureen had asked 'I am Eve Jacob Samson' 'So?', Maureen asked. She was beginning to enjoy the scene. 'Give me back my mattress' 'We are not holding any', Kemi said. Maureen moved towards the lady, 'Beb, if your father is really the deputy Governor of this state, please go and complain to him and leave us out of this. My friend didn't take your mattress' A fight ensured. Not a physical fight but the one ladies are fun of doing. A fight of words. 'look at you, my daddy begged me to be here. You are all poor and not my standard. Do you know where I graduated from? United Kingdom. All I have to do is call daddy and you two will be in for it' 'Evelyn, you better call that your daddy o, because Maureen Jason did not pick any mattress from anyone and I will not forfeit mine for you' At that time, a crowd had formed. Maureen never gave up, even when she was wrong and she wasn't about to start now. Kemi was a bit disturbed but it was too late. 'I won't fight low life like you, I will just call my daddy to get me a brand new one', Eve had said. 'So far as I don't have to give up my mattress, do as you please', Maureen shouted back. True to her words, surprisingly, by evening, a new mattress was brought in by a woman in mufti and placed on Eve's bed 'Spoilt brat', Maureen muttered A friendship was stuck between Maureen and Kemi immediately. 'Maureen, are you listening, let's go to meditation ground. I am tired of waiting and it seems they are coming' The 'them' meant soldiers. They heard the whistles being blown and the sound was coming towards them. Maureen jumped down. She didn't bother making her bed. 'Come on Kemi, we are not that late are we?' 'aren't you hearing them singing? Of course we are late and so shall be punished' They ran out of the hostel towards the meditation ground. 'Hey you, late comers kneel down', a soldier barked. 'I told you', Kemi whispered. 'You this platoon 8 girl, are you not tired of getting punished? Not a day passes you by', a female soldier asked. Maureen wisely kept quiet. ******* 'Jake dear, can you do me a favour?', Tara Nicholas had called her brother the following day' 'So long as it doesn't have to bring me to Abuja' 'Not at all' 'You remember mich? My sister-in-law?' 'Sure. How is she doing?' 'Fine. You know she married my Obstetrician' 'Yes Tara and I attended their wedding' 'You see, my lovely and understanding brother. I bet no one told you that Maureen is now at the NYSC camp Iyana Ipaja...' 'Who is Maureen?' 'Joel's younger sister' 'Oh, I heard of her. That spoilt brat?' 'Come on Jake, she has now changed a new leave' 'Whatever. What do you want?' ' I want you to work her nysc to the advertising firm. You are the head of the branch over there. I just don't want her send to the rural area' 'Why me? Why not Justin?' I want you to help me. Please, Mich is too proud to ask her brother to help her' 'Sorry Tara, Mich isn't proud, Justin refused to help' 'Who told you that?' 'Everyone knew that girl. If Justin is avoiding her, so I will be the one stuck with her?' 'Its not like that' Tara bit her lower lip 'Tara, I remembered what she did to you, Mich and Linda. That girl is a devil. She had made sure mich and her husband didn't talk for months because of her lies, she had schemed and caused a fight between Mich and Joel's ex, she had pushed a very pregnant Linda down the stairs and refused to apologize, she had tried to snatched Jordan from you and I heard her behaviours towards the Nicholas maids and to you when ever she visited, she had...' 'Jake, you've made your point. Will you help or not?' 'No, I will not help you Tara. So you want to tie me down in the same work place with that she devil?' 'She isn't as bad as you make her?' 'Then why did Justin refused to work her posting to his side?' 'Please, please' 'Maureen Jason is a nightmare and I don't ever wish to meet her' 'Oh, you met her already. She was the chief bridesmaid in her brother's wedding', Tara mused 'Oh, I didn't get a look at her and I remember she is fat. How won't she be as fat as a pig when she hates working' 'Who fed you all these lies?' 'Don't patronize me Tara. She is ugly, bad tempered and bad mannered. I pity the man that would be unfortunate to saddled with her. I would rather die a virgin than to even have any intimate thing with her' 'That is harsh Jake, she is just chubby and so sweet. Just get to know her' 'Never. Not even my dead mother would make me have a conversation with that thing' 'Oh dear, please don't bring your mother into this' 'Tara, I love you, but what you ask of me, I can't do. Maureen is nothing but trouble and you know I can't stand trouble. Bye Tara, send my love to Eugene and Lizabeth' 'Wait Jake, you can't help me? Your sister?' 'You want me to help a spoilt brat, I will not' And so, the line went dead. |

Good afternoon house, I am so sorry I couldn't update. I got banned. By antispam bot. Guess what I did? I made a list of my readers and posted it here. The names got removed and I was banned. I sent mails to the moderators of this section to look into the matter and unban me but I received no replyand my banned was not lifted. I sent again, before I finally gave up. I don't know if I should make another list or still use the previous one. Let me try break them into two. I hope I don't get banned in the process. |
Stlomo1s:I'm so sorry it. Has come to this. I understand your feeling of betrayal, I understand your reluctance in reading my story again. Have a wonderful day |
All rights reserved. No part of this work may be reproduced or transmitted in any form or by any means without permission If you are reading my story for the first time, you should be informed that this book four of the bridal series. Kindly read the first three stories before coming here. I would wish to send out invitations but I am scared. The last time I mention names, I left some out and it caused quite a scandal. Please, do not be offended if your name is not mentioned. Kindly let me know and I wll add your name to the list. The list I have is from 'deceitful couple' |
richyluvu:I wrote all complete of my stories here. I never start a story without completing the previous ones. If you observed, I had to remove some parts of the work. Why? Plagiarism is now the order of the day. You can imagine a story I write free, someone comes here, copy and then paste then claim ownership and even sells them. This led to my removing some parts. Be patient, these stories would soon be published and you will buy them. I'm so sorry I put you in such suspense, sir |
petkoffdrake2:I am a female |
petkoffdrake2:All you have to do is click on my username. Everything you need is there. My pix, u don't need |
petkoffdrake2:I've earlia written three stories here, on NL. They are all connected. Like series. All of the characters share one thing in common, their love for each other. They might not all come from the same parents, but they protect each other like siblings. They are family. This is the fourth story. The reluctant bride A man to call her own Deceitful couple Captor of my heart:the tamers. If you are reading my story for the first time, go back and read the first three before appearing here |
Paradise163:Madam you dy so? |
Finally, my readers have won, again. Maureen is determine to be in Jake's Bed, no matter what. She swore no one and nothing will stop her, but the thing is, how can she get to Jake? A man everyone thought is chased by a ghost? Or are they all wrong? Is he pretending to his family? If so, why? |
Twinkle004:Just go to my profile but I should warn u they are also incomplete |
nikkybeez:I am honoured, ma'am |
iomoge2:When my books are out, I will let you know. Although I am at a lost why the mods moved this thread to the front page after two years |
chival:I was so scared at that time. There was a channel then, it used to be free, it was called Movie channel, they displayed it one evenning, from part 1-3. My elder cousins insisted on watching them all. Immediately after the film, nepa did their work. Oh God, I couldn't sleep that night. I'm now a big girl, gone are the days |
jovincyy10:It seems few know about that film. I remembered it reigned. I will pay a fortune to watch it again, this time, with an adult's eye, and not a child's |
wizzywisdom:Sorry to disappoint you. The walking dead is currently airing season 6. In fact, 6 episode 15 will air on sunday and episode 16 which is the finale of the season shall air next upper sunday. I think you should expect season 7 by October of this year. I am an ardent viewer and follower of Rick and co. |
jovincyy10:Yes, his name is Damien. The one that killed his parents and went to live with some relatives. He killed them too |
Why is it that no one mentioned 'The Omen'? I remembered watching it as a kid, part one to three at a stretch. Wow, it took me three days to finally sleep. It all seems like child play now |
akpobi:Why would you say that? |
akpobi:I've watched the tv series, but I want to read the original work. Very interesting series I tell u. I don't regret the time spent watching season one |
My literature teacher used to tell us that the best way to answer a poem question is to know the poem off hand and quote it. I used to recite this poem off hand. All thanks to my lit teacher Literature is one subject I'm never scared of. Oh, how time flies |
Can you get me the complete books of 'the shannara chronicles' by Terry Brook and 'the elusive flame' by Johanna Linsey? If you can, can you help me without the condition attached? |
yusufibrahim:Thanks for reading my stories. My next one is starting soonest.please keep your eyes open |
Ikengawo:I'm sure you think you are funny, but alas you are far from it. Keep it up mr man. I almost forget that there are so many boys in Nairaland. Character is like pregnancy, you can never hide it. |
If this is the princesca I know, she is a fighter. Don't give up, keep praying and focus your attention now on your boys. I pray your husband realises too late. |
Miki123 @ you said Abu female students are very dull? How many of them do you know? Hey, I know many ABU graduates and I can boldly say they are trying. You can't expect every student in your school to be intelligent. Talk about judging a book by its cover! |
Habayomie:Abu's accomodation fee is just #7090. Seven thousand, ninety naira and most of it is for maintenance. So what are you saying? |
RoseDearestLove:Thank you very much, ma |
