Write it soon? I just started writing the plot. I just saw how Maureen and jake story will be. Jake's charcter is one very bad one. Now that I have my plot, I can write the story whenever I want, for now, one other story occupies my mind

Jjagz @ you are right, Maureen will tame Jake and bring him back home. I intend giving her a story too but that will be after the story I'm working on. Its about an extended family, at war with each other forpower. Its full of hate, murder, betrayal , lust and much more. Only the cleave ones survive in this war.
I'm bored of romance now, wanna put my hands on something else. Meanwhile, I will keep developing the plot of Maureen and Jake. I will let you all know when they are ready, I don't intend writing on NL again.

Back to your questions costlybaby, in the story from the begining of their wedding Joel and Mich kept emphasizing that they were legally married. Yes,they were married, legally in the eyes of the law. Court marriage is acceptable dear but edward won't hear of it. He refused giving his blessings because he felt cheated. We are africans you know and their are rites that needs to be carried out for a marriage to be complete. Such rites include the brideprice. Africans take it very serious you know and since joel did not pay it, edward refused to accept them as being married.
Okay, imagine yourself, runing off to the court and getting married to a man you never introduce to your parents and he never paid any price on you, though the law will see you as married, will your family? To me, its disrespectful and very wrong, this might happen in other continents, but dear, not africa.
If you observed, the two kept insisting that they were legally married but edward won't accept it. Joel paid the brideprice and married her the second time in church because, he too knew he wronged her parents and knew he had to right the wrong they commited. He married her and made his peace with her family because he knew that they needed their blessings. Finally I will say that, mich and joel were never commiting fornication, and they knew itn but to edward, since he didn't get that price, it is fornication. Go to my second to the last update, where mich visited aureen over her gown and joel drove her home. She asked him to come in and say hi to her parents, he responded by telling her that he didn't want her father seeing the lustful look on his face. Mich exclaimed, 'but we are married' and joel answered, 'not to your father'
Ch for the brideprice? I skipped that place because to me, it isn't important. The most important thing there is for the marriage that had been the bone of contention to be done and over with. The amount he paid isn't really important, the most important thing was that he paid that long awaited price.
