Chris made a mistake in the very first movement. He should have cut into Lingard's left shoulder, forcing him off the ball shoulder to shoulder. But because his run wasn't vertical enough, he found himself behind Lingard, hence the foul.

Your first "it is world cup year" comment was in reply to MaziAlaye saying that Ronaldo deserve 2018 award. That's when I brought in a similar incident that happened in 2010.

Since Sneijder had a better world cup, he deserved the award because "it is world cup year". Sneijder still had a better all round year in 2010.

I think 2018, they just wanted to break the Messi/Ronaldo monopoly that's why they gave the award to Modric. There's no other explanation.

Modric performance in 2018 was miles behind Sneijder's 2010 performance.

The bottom line is, if Modric deserve 2018 Ballon D'or because "it is world cup year" then Sneijder too deserve it in 2010 because "it is world cup year". BUT if Messi deserve it in 2010 for whatever achievement he had "in a world cup year" then Ronaldo deserve it too in 2018 for other achievements he had "in a world cup year". Simple.

Before then, he scored and assisted Robben in a 2-1 win in the round of 16. Fast forward to semi finals, he scored in a 3-2 win over Uruguay to send Holland to the finals.

Did you watch that final? Did you see his defence splitting pass that bought Robben one on one against Casillas that Robben somehow missed? That should have been an assist for him in the final.

In a 7 game tournament, Sneidjer won MOTM 4 times.... Pray tell, how can you argue that he didn't carry Holland on his shoulder to the final?

OK let's put stats one side because I believe stats don't tell the full story. Did you really watch Sneidjer in 2010? Did you? If you do, you will notice how he dictates the tempo of matches. His passing ability. His shooting technique etc....

Sneidjer met this same Messi in UCL semi final that year. He scored and assisted in the 3-1 first leg win where the tie was arguably won. What did Messi do over 2 legs? Sneidjer even went on to assist one of the goals in the final vs Bayern.

Guy. Don't even try to argue that 2010 Ballon D'or disgrace.

Sneidjer was clearly robbed of that award.
