What if you are unable to clear the ball,..and the opponent in your zone score....... who is at fault for the goal?? have you lost the man, you are marking in your zone??
No, you didn't lose him.

It means you failed to protect your zone very well.

Losing a player means you are marking a player, following him around and somehow he evades you to nod the ball. You have lost him. It might be as a result of his clever run, or you slipped while following him, or bodies blocked you and he went off.... All these can't happen when you are marking a zone.

Ferdinard lost Messi in how many seconds there??
Ferdinand already have identified Messi.

In a corner kick situation, with all the bodies in the box, do you think 3secs is enough for one to identify, mark, the win/lose a player?

My definition of Zone marking= you mark a zone, when a player enter the zone, you mark the player...

Your definition= you only mark the zone, you dont mark player.

Since you are still arguing,... i have to consult google to help us,.... i know you cant argue with google.
That was never my definition.

You mark your zone and if the ball drops in your zone, of course you are expected to clear the ball and if an opposing player is attacking the ball that moment, it means you have marked him by clearing the ball that drops in your zone.

That scenario is different from when the coach before the game says Expert17 mark Airmark, he is your man. In this case Expert will gum body with airmark everywhere not minding any zone. This is where you can lose your man.

Anticipatory defending, sometimes ends in aerial duel and the praises must go to the defender for his proactiveness.

I cant believe nitrogen and timbros think, in all aerial duels, defenders just stand in a position and balls come to meet them and they jump. Why they see no big deal in winning aerial duels. They don't know it has everything to do with timing and not just having useless height like Boathand.

We won't stop educating them.
Do you lose a player in zonal marking?

When the ball is on the air, ... Those attacking the ball, will enter those zone the defenders are protecting., .....thats when you will have a man to Mark.

That's why Chelsea defenders can't zone mark.....you will only know the player you are contesting with, like 3 secs before the ball lands...
So you need high concentration.
So how will you lose a player you have only 3secs to identify? grin grin

You and your goons, keep shifting the goal post. We dey talk aerial ball contest, you are saying something else. Everything is based on the assumption that you are perfectly able to contest with opposition players for the ball.

Kuku tell a defender to contest a ball that is 5-yards away from him, and 1 yard away from the opposition player.

Better stop learning from Airmark and Dayo.
They know the truth but them go always shift post. cheesy

Ferdinard was zone- marking by protecting the area in front of goal, .. Messi enter the same zone, ferdinard was trying to protect and score.

Ferdinard should have dealt with Messi, so he is at fault for the goal.
No one is arguing whose fault the goal is.

The question is, did Messi and Ferdinand engage in aerial contest?

Our initial argument was on winning aerial duels, which meant nothing to you, since all cbs are trained to win aerial duels.

In that Ferdinands gif, it would have become an aerial duel if Ferdinand had tracked Messi's run. He failed to defend his blind side and he couldn't deal with the aerial ball.

If VVD was the one in that situation, had tracked Messi's run and nodded the ball away, you would have come here to tell us no biggie in what he did, since that's what all cbs are trained to do - to win aerial duels, in fact against a midget (Messi).

Take your L peacefully.
But it wasn't.

So this example doesn't fit our argument in the first place.

Was there an aerial contest? No. So look for another example.

I played professional football (goalkeeper) at some stage..

So when am telling you stuffs about defending......please stop arguing.

1. The way opponent plan to attack a corner, might determine if you gonna use Zonal marking or not.

2. When a man enter your zone/area in zonal marking, ... Thats your man......so you can loose your man, ( example, Maguire beating Rudiger to the ball and scoring against Chelsea)

In Zonal marking, you are assigned to a zone/area in the field..... The opponent will assign them selve to each zone, ... Thereby leading to you having a man to mark.
1. Every coach goes into a game with a tactic in place. Either zonal marking or man marking. However, during the course of the game, if the defenders are struggling with that tactic the coach can tweak.

2. The defending players don't stand man to man with any body so you can't lose who you are not standing with. The problem is when a player misjudge their zone and an attacking player pounce in his zone. That is where experience comes in.

And the bolded is just hilarious. That you played professional football doesn't mean jack. Gary Neville wouldn't have conceded all those goals as a coach in Valencia that led to losing games and ultimately led to him being sacked because he played as a defender.

When a player enter your zone, in zonal marking...... Thats your man.

That's why, in some games, you will see short players, for example, LUKE SHAW contesting/marking a tall player like FABINHO in corners, .....thats because Fabinho enter Shaw zone...... This is so simple.

Go and watch Maguire's goal against Chelsea this season. You will understand Rudiger loosing his man.
When you say Luke Shaw loses Fabinho, it mean Luke Shaw has Fabinho as his man in a man marking system. The same cannot be said of a zonal marking system.

Most goals conceded in zonal marking system is two players misjudging their zones in a millisecond and the opposing attacker pounce to nod the ball home. Check most goals we concede from set pieces, it's always a free nodding. Sometimes one will wonder "why should that guy freely nod that ball like that? Who should be marking him?" The answer is, no one really is marking him. Just that 2 neighbouring zone markers thinking the other person got it covered and in that millisecond of switching off, an opponent pounces.

That is where experience comes in. Chelsea defenders are struggling with this system. At some point, Lampard will change tactics to mixed zonal marking to salvage the game. But mostly Lampard too believe in zonal marking but our players are yet to master the system very well. And yes you are right, put Terry, Carvalho, Cahill and they will do better with their experience.

To clarify again, a defender don't lose a man in zonal marking because he was not assigned any man to mark in the first place.

See Ferdinand looking like mumu. If it was VVD, you, nitrogen and raumdeuter wouldn't let us hear word.

What happened to looking over his shoulder and tracking Messi's run since he was the only threat unmarked and closer to him, before the cross?

I can give multiple gifs where VVD tracked such runs and headed the ball to safety (pro-activeness). But to you, nothing is there in nodding aerial balls away. You no know ball grin
Again, I won't follow you in goal post shifting.

That goal was Ferdinand's fault 100%. No argument.

However what brought about Messi vs Ferdinand is not positioning, but winning aerial balls.
I said it will be something special if a player like Son or Messi with their physique won VVD in an aerial ball then Pkasso mentioned Messi vs Ferdinand as if they contested an aerial ball and Messi won then you confidently replied "thank you o"...

In that gif, did both of them contest the ball?

So when a player enter the zone?? He keeps on marking the zone / the grass??

cheesy cheesy cheesy

The meaning of marking zone = you should be the one winning the header/ball in a particular area of the field ......you should make sure, no mistake/goal from your zone
I already explained the bolded in my last post.

Instead of you to accept you made a mistake to say Rudiger loses his man in a zonal marking you will just be looking for ways to shift goal post. Accept your mistake and move on.

Why do you like turning up and down like thishuh

cheesy cheesy cheesy

When a player enter the area, he is covering, then he should Mark the player.....thats zonal marking....... So players don't enter the area Rudiger Is suppose to Markhuh
cheesy
You don't get it.

In zonal marking, nobody marks anybody. You only mark an area. E.g when a corner kick is about to be played, all the players already knows the patch of areas he will cover if the ball comes. So whether it's Aguero, Jesus, Otamendi, Fernadinho, Sterling or whoever enters Rudiger's zone and the ball comes there, it is Rudiger's responsibility to attack and clear. Now this system is different from Man marking that Rudiger will be told to mark Aguero. So if its time for corner kick, Rudiger will always be with Aguero wherever he going. His job is 'don't lose Aguero'...

Now you said the bolded earlier...

Expert17:
Put Terry, Cahill and Ivanovic with this same zonal marking.......... lets see if the problem will still be there

Zouma that will always jump before ball..............Rudiger will loose the player he is suppose to mark
You are wrong and I want to correct that.

Rudiger don't lose any player in zonal marking system because he doesn't mark any player. He only marks his zone.

Zonal marking is a defensive strategy where defenders cover an area of the pitch rather than marking a specific opponent. If an opponent moves into the area a defender is covering, the defender marks the opponent

Chelsea is suffering from set piece this season because of Lampard using zonal marking frequently instead of Man marking.

I'm sure you know how zonal marking system works.
