If literally the bolded is true, why do you have defenders in your team? Why don't you just fill every position with attackers and keep bombing your opponent with attack?

Why do you need defenders and GKs?

The screenshot below is literally the period Arsenal surrendered the league to Man City. Look at that screenshot very well, study the results, and tell me whose fault it is that Arsenal lost that league... Is it attackers fault or defenders? Did the attackers not score enough to win those matches or was it that the defenders conceded more?

My take is that both are equally important.

In tournament football, defence is king. The number of matches are limited and you can grind out results and get lucky with one goal or a penalty shootout.

In league football, you can't grind our your way to glory over a 38-game season.


Also, every rule has exceptions. Liverpool 2014 would've won the league if they hadn't been parading clowns like Skrtel, Sakho and Flanagan in their backline.

Nigeria in the last Women's World Cup would have gotten to the semis if our attack was just a little bit sharper.

While our attack need massive improvement to convert chances created, our defense also need to tighten up. Individual errors in defense have cost us a lot this season. So yes, defense is also our problem.

In 2004/05 when Mourinho broke the record of least goals conceded in the league, we scored 72 goals. Arsenal in second scored 87..... The amount of 1-0 matches we played that season was uncountable.

2020/21 when Tuchel won us UCL, we conceded just 4 goals all campaign. 4 goals in 13 matches!
