When you don't have the brains to cope with an argument, it is best to sit and watch. A manifesto is little more than a set of promises, whereas, an ideology is the anchor on which those promises are made. A manifesto does not define a political party as left leaning, far right etc, only a dimwit would think so. It is ideologies that can be leftist, rightist, capitalist, liberal etc. Please don't engage me further, I really detest loud mental midgets.

I won't waste time joining in an argument driven only by passion. All the parties are the same, the only difference is closeness to power; when you vote, make sure it is for individuals.

The nest of thieves and killers is our political class, anyone singling out one party or the other is only fooling themselves. Any party that siezes power in Nigeria will be either worse or the same as the PDP, because none has an ideology. A man without principles will do immoral things, same goes for a political party without an ideology.

All the other parties are equally bad or worse. PDP only got mentioned, because they are the ruling party. There is no Nigerian party that meets the minimum criteria for a Western political party, which is the documents basis for comparison.

Which Nigerian party has an ideology? None! As a matter of fact, PDP is the closest to having one.

Umblerra, Umbrera, umbrella, wambrela, or whatever she's alleged to call it is irrelevant unless you're a trained and licensed linguist who would understand the influence of vernacular on secondary languages.

I mean, you wouldn't undersatnd why the average Yoruba would always miss pronouncing the first "h" in any word. Not only do Yorubas pronounce "house" as "ouse". I have seen many N/L write "his" as "is"

Also, the Hausas, because of their own native tongue mispronouce words begining with "v"
Imagine sitting in an English class by an Hausa Youth corper who began the first day:
"By the end of this class, e[i]w[/i]ery one of you will understand the f[/i]roper use of [i]w[/i]erbs and pro[i]w[/i]erbs"

The Igbos too, have their languistic idiosyncracy such as placing a vowel at the end of every name, such as [i]bucket[/i]i for bucket, [i]cupu for cup, and of course having difficulty with such tongue twister as umbrella.

Like to hear from some linguist in the H--ouse, not some cheap political operatives.

Mrs. Jonathan started her career as a teacher at the Stella Maris College, Port Harcourt and Sports Institute Isake. She then moved to the banking sector in 1997, where she established the first community bank in Port Harcourt called the Akpo Community Bank. Mrs. Jonathan also served as Marketing Manager of Imiete Community Bank. She returned to the classroom briefly again as teacher. Eventually she was transferred to the Bayelsa State Ministry of Education, where she served until May 29th 1999 when her husband became the Deputy Governor of the state.

President Goodluck Jonathan last night met with the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos in his bid for votes from the nation’s commercial capital. The state has the highest number of voters.

Sources said among the people he met with were Chief Olabode George, who has just completed a jail term for contract splitting at the Nigeria Port Authority (NPA) and the governorship candidate of the party in the state Dr. Ade Dosunmu. Other leaders of the party were also at the meeting.

The President came direct from Benin Republic where he went on a visit at the weekend. He was accompanied to the meeting by his Chief of Staff Mike Ogiadomhe.

Sources said the President is worried that the Lagos state PDP governorship candidate has not been receiving the full support and cooperation from the generality of the members of the party. The party is split along various groups.

The dominant group –the establishment- is led by George while 2007 governorship candidate and Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Ghana Mr. Musiliu Obanikoro is heading the Solidarity Group. The Mandate group is led by Former Works Minister Adeseye Ogunlewe. There are also smaller groups.

The President according to sources has been trying to rally the party behind Dosunmu so that the party will not go into the election deeply divided.

It was gathered that settling the crisis in Ogun State also topped the agenda as embattled Governor Gbenga Daniel was said to be at the meeting. Governor Daniel’s men who lost the PDP battle in the state in court, to President Olusegun Obasanjo faction, have moved to little known Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN).

The President is believed to be ready to stay till Tuesday in Lagos to be able to sort out the problems in the southwest including Oyo State where the party is also bitterly divided. Many party members have vowed to work against the candidacy of Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala.

ABUJA, March 18 (Reuters) - Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan snubbed a television debate with election rivals on Friday, drawing criticism from the Facebook generation he sought to woo at his campaign launch six months ago.

There was an empty podium next to his rivals, ex-military ruler Muhammadu Buhari, former anti-corruption chief Nuhu Ribadu and Kano state governor Ibrahim Shekarau, at the event, broadcast live on Nigerian news channel NN24 and the Internet.

"Why don't Ribadu, Shekarau and Buhari agree under one party and kick this PDP (ruling party) out of power," said one posting on a Facebook page dedicated to following the NN24 debate.

"GEJ (Jonathan) should have at least sent a Senior Special Assistant on Debates and Challenging Interviews," said one commentator on Twitter, mocking the ruling party's reputation for setting up committees without solving problems.

The presidency said NN24's request was one of several from media organisations seeking to organise a televised debate and had been received while he was busy on the campaign trail.

"The request came late, it was one of ten. He's going to participate in a debate on the 29th, It's unfair to the president to suggest he's avoiding a debate," said Ken Saro-Wiwa, his special assistant on international affairs.

The presidential vote is due to be held on April 9, with parliamentary elections a week earlier and state governorship elections a week later. [nLDE6AM2BY]

Jonathan announced his intention to run in the elections on social networking site Facebook in September, stealing the thunder from Buhari, who was holding a campaign launch in the capital Abuja at the time. [nLDE68E10D]

Jonathan's aides spun the strategy as a sign he was a "breath of fresh air" in touch with Nigerian youth. Political commentators acknowledged the stark contrast with the traditional pomp of Buhari's launch was a publicity coup.

But his campaign has since lost momentum, with the turnout at some of his rallies in recent weeks less than overwhelming.

A pre-recorded television interview with local music star D'banj, broadcast on Thursday evening, was pilloried by some as a patronising attempt to engage with the youth.

"Jonathan and the PDP may be misjudging the youth who are determined to put an end to the era of mediocrity and criminal showmanship that has dragged their nation backward for decades," said one comment doing the rounds on Blackberry messenger.

OPPOSITION EYES RUN-OFF

The ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) candidate has won every election since the end of military rule 12 years ago and Jonathan remains the front runner, but opposition parties are hoping they may be able to force a run-off.

Jonathan must win at least a quarter of the vote in two thirds of the 36 states to secure victory in the first round.

Buhari has strong grass roots support in parts of the north, while Ribadu's Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) is dominant in the southwest, and while they have no formal alliance they are hoping to prevent Jonathan clinching a first-round win.

Diplomats were in the front row at the debate and members of the audience were asked to submit questions in advance.

Buhari was grilled on his reputation as an authoritarian during military rule, Ribadu on why he was standing for a party whose members include people he has accused of graft, and Shekarau on the Hisbah Islamic squad he set up in Kano to enforce sharia law even on a Christian minority. [nLDE72E2ST]

The opposition has called for the order of the parliamentary and state governorship votes to be amended, saying the timetable favoured the ruling party because if Jonathan won the presidential race then voters would be more inclined to vote PDP at state level a week later.

The electoral commission ruled out the suggestion on Friday, saying it was too late for such a change.

5 What happened to the 30b USD Yaradua left in the excess crude account that is virtually empty now?

6 How come it  is only Nigeria under Jonathan whose foreign reserve is depleting among oil producing nations at a time of all time high increase in prices of oil products?[/b]

Sunday Trust gathered that only the four of them met to discuss a way forward after the bitter fight for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential ticket which President Jonathan won, in spite of the party’s zoning arrangement which favours a northern presidential.

However, a source close to one of the three northern leaders told Sunday Trust last night that the meeting ended in a deadlock because neither of the camps made concession.

The northern leaders, it was gathered, asked President Jonathan to make a commitment that he would ensure the presidency is zoned to the North in 2015. Sunday Trust learnt that the team wanted a written agreement, to which President Jonathan declined.

On his own, President Jonathan implored the northern leaders to declare their support for him for the 2011 presidential election, and he would, in return, ensure that the north is given juicy positions in the next cabinet.

Sunday Trust learnt that the three former presidential aspirants did not make that commitment, insisting that, in principle, they stood by the PDP’s zoning arrangement, and that they could not endorse the Jonathan presidential bid in that circumstance.

The trio, it was learnt, told President Jonathan that they were going to make further consultations ahead of another rescheduled meeting of the four, which has been fixed for later this month, before the commencement of the 2011 elections.

A source close to The Presidency told Sunday Trust that if President Jonathan made a written commitment to the power shift to the North by 2015, it could jeopardize his chances of garnering votes from the South-East in the forthcoming presidential polls.

A member of the Northern Political Leaders Forum, Alhaji Bibi Farouk, had told Sunday Trust in an interview that there were several external factors which had made it difficult for the President and the northern leader to reach a compromise ahead of the 2011 polls.
