Beaf: Well spoken.
I would add that the 5th column you hinted at, is the cabal. Frightenly, they have ALL moved into CPC; Turai, Tanimu Yakubu, Abba Ruma, Kurfi etc etc Buhari has been made a mere spectator in his own party through his desperation for power (when he has nothing to offer).
It is the core-Northern cabal causing problems for the country. seriously mate, you should just die. i am from the south and i dont buy into all this "it's all the north's fault". we've had our own share of rotten leaders in the past. in fact some may say obj is the worst of the lot and from what everyone has seen gej isn't any different. you are literally obsessed with the north. it's weird. you need to start looking closer to home for the answers to your problems instead of always trying to blame others. |

I ask, does yr family member have to become a statistic 4 u to accept that PDP is evil? please remove sentiments and b rational here. . .The prophesy is being fulfiled! your logic is sound. |

muami: My heart goes out to all those who died in the blast. Its actually strange that when the North was ruling, there was no bomb blast in the North. Now that GEJ would soon win, they are busy bombing themselves. Is it a mere coincidence that the blast is only taking place at states in the North where PDP is likely to win? How come we dont hear of bomd blast in places like kano, Kebbi, Zamfar and other CPC's strongholds? If Buhari likes let him bomb the whol North, he would still lose. if only you lived in this country you would realise how wrong you are |

Will you also blame GEJ candidacy for the fracas in Akwa Ibom between two governorship candidates? Haba! i haven't blamed anybody for this particular act - or any others for that matter. there were killings in nigeria long before GEJ and there will be many long after him. what i am saying though is that GEJ candidacy has increased the level of hostility nigerians feel towards each other dramatically. this is FACT. all you need to do is look at this forum to see that. or look at the newspapers. or look at the markets. or the bus stops. when you are surrounded by constant tension and hostility the result is a snowball affect where "people" suddenly feel it legitimate to throw bombs. |

Lives have been lost; young, innocent lives for that matter. This is not the time to be pointing fingers.
What I will say, however, is that GEJ candidacy has heated up the polity exponentially. He can't hide from that. Whilst he has the right to run for the Presidency, I can guarantee you that there wouldn't be this level of danger in the country if he had decided to run on a different platform. Everybody knows Zoning exists in the PDP. Even OBJ himself said so recently. |

By the way India has a higher GDP than Nigeria and a national income commensurate with their geographical and human resources, so they CAN be compared with Nigeria!
And if PDP can produce 4,000 megawatts in Nigeria, they can produce the same proportion in India. India is no less corrupt than Nigeria unless you live in cloud cuckooland. what on earth are you talking about. you seem to be a very confused individual. are you going through woman troubles at the moment because it seems as if you can't even focus on whom you are debating with talk less of what it is we are debating. as for PDP producing 4,000 megawatts, I laugh. i think you'll find that they met 4,000 megawatts when they came into power some 12 years earlier and low and behold here we still are on 4,000 megawatts only now we're some $12-16 billion out of pocket. and if you really want to make country comparisons then there is only really one figure you need to use: nigeria total installed capacity: 4,000 megawatts (est.) india total installed capacity: 171,926.40 megawatts

Politics › Re: Soldiers Get Shoot-on-sight Order In Fresh Assault On Polls Violence by timbuktwo: 6:38pm On Apr 08, 2011 |
so basically nobody can rig. unless you are PDP, in which case it's fine. Despite the stance of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika that the military will not be used to intimidate or harass politicians as well as electorates during the elections, the reverse has been the case in his own community, Ovim in Isuikwuato L.G.A. of Abia state as his younger brother, Okey Ihejirika is alleged to have been on the loose with the batch of soldiers attached to the community for security, attacking, threatening and beating up those who are said to belong to other political parties other than the PDP.
Inside sources in the area confirmed that the younger Ihejirika who runs a Guest House said to be owned by his brother is obsessed with power since the appointment of the COAS , as such he is leading the campaign for the return of the state governor, Theodore Orji and other PDP candidates in the area. The communities around are said to be under siege as the opposition is almost being stifled. The major opposition parties in the area include PPA, LP, APGA,CPC AND ACN.
Reports have it that Okey Ihejirika has been seen campaigning alongside his kith and kin who claim that President Goodluck Jonathan may terminate the appointment of the COAS if another political Party wins in the area. Prior to the failed Saturday elections, Okey was on a campaign train urging the people to cast their vote for the ruling PDP in other to protect his brother’s appointment. He has repeatedly ordered soldiers to beat up anybody who does to the contrary. This was also evidenced on Saturday during the NASS elections where soldiers stationed in his ANCCO Guest House, Ovim were said to have beaten up the agent of the Labour Party who had insisted that the actual number of persons accredited should be recorded. The young man, Nnanna Kanu who also hails from the same community with the Ihejirikas was thoroughly beaten by the soldiers who were told he was working for Noel Okorougo, the Senatorial candidate of the Labour Party for Abia North who also hails from the same Local Government with the COAS. In the next LGA where the PPA seems to be upstaging the PDP, story is the same as soldiers again on the orders of Hon. Nkeiru Onyejeocha and Senator Uche Chukwumerije also beat up agents and supporters of the PPA candidate for the House of Representatives, Chris Odinaka Igwe.
The opposition Parties seem to be posing for war with those who are said to be riding on the back of the COAS. Though it is not yet certain if the relations of the Army Chief are acting on his orders, but there are confirmed reports that his residence has in the past weeks played host for PDP chieftains including the state governor who is alleged to be parting with a reasonable percentage of his security vote in order to secure the military backing. Gov. T.A. Orji is said to be backed by armored military tankers and personnel while on campaign in the state and that is said to have angered the people of the state who have vowed to push him out of office.
Meanwhile, the Ovim community is said to have witnessed an unprecedented number of strange youths referred to as thugs and are said to be kept at the ANCCO Guest House alongside the dreaded Bakassi cult group known as Abia State Vigilante Services who are under the payroll of the state governor. Some of the hired thugs are also said to have been brought in by the Transition Chairman of the Local Government Council, Timothy Onwuka who is said to be working for Gen Ike Nwachukwu, a chieftain of the PDP in the area and a native of Ovim. He also provided logistics and housing for the thugs in a desperate bid to stop the rival PPA former governor Orji Uzor Kalu who is running for the Senate in the area as well as another daughter of Ovim, Oby Ndukwe who is also flying the flag of the rival PPA for the Isuikwuato Constituency in the State House of Assembly. The PPA candidate though is a cousin of the COAS but she is said to be opposed by Gen Ihejirika and the immediate family members who see her alliance with the PPA as an affront to the PDP government of President Jonathan that appointed Ihejirika into office. |

@ beaf, Pharoh, dannyboy10 you choose to believe a poll conducted by a rouge newspaper (THISDAY used their journalists as interviewers for the this so called poll) and yet you wont believe an online poll open to all Nigerians?? talk about being selective. but you don't have to believe me; hear what john campbell has to say about IPSOS/THISDAY: According to a recent opinion pollin Nigeria, 38.1 percent of respondents “strongly agree” and 34.9 percent “somewhat agree,” “that Goodluck Jonathan is doing a good job as president.” The poll even shows Jonathan with a one hundred percent positive approval rate in Akwa Ibom state, and an average positive performance rating of about ninety percent in the southern states. His lowest score was in Kano with 22.5 percent, but he had an overall approval rate in the North of sixty percent.
The poll, conducted by Ipsos, an international polling firm, was published in This Day, a Nigerian newspaper sympathetic to the Jonathan administration.
I am skeptical that this poll accurately measures Jonathan’s support. Indeed, an approval rating of one hundred percent anywhere stretches credulity. While opinion polls are not unknown in Nigeria, they are not common, either.
Shortly before the 2007 elections, a government cabinet minister came to see me with polling results that ostensibly showed overwhelming support for the governing People’s Democratic Party. In hindsight, the Obasanjo government’s sharing of poll results with the diplomatic community looks like it was part of an orchestrated campaign to try and give credibility to the electoral outcomes despite the massive PDP rigging of the elections. Friends of Nigeria must hope that polling data is not now being used in a similar way before the April 2011 elections. http://blogs.cfr.org/campbell/2011/03/09/nigeria-election-polling/you have been warned. your polls wont save you this time. the world is watching. |

Mariory: No poll is to be believed. Some Nigerian papers including the one you mentioned have been known to spin for money. Nairaland polls do not account for people with multiple accounts and for people who are not even eligible to vote (underage, not in country, foreigner etc)
Hope this clears things up a bit. you seem like one of the more thoughtful posters. you should do it more often. |

Ipsos/ThisDay interviewed 236 people in Lagos state and from their results concluded that 80% of Lagosians will vote for GEJ in the elections.
Nairaland has polled 312 people with 55.1% people voting for Buhari and only 26% people voting GEJ.
Given the state on nigeria's newspapers - as well as the dubious method of conducting the interviews in the ThisDay poll - which poll do you think is the more accurate reflection of Lagosians voting mood? |
