PoliticsGunmen Attack Plateau Village, Burn 250 by TIMEISWISDOM(op): 10:22am On May 30, 2015
No fewer than 500 gunmen on Thursday attacked Shonong village in
Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State and burnt about 250
houses in the community.
The attack, which took place at about 9.00pm, took residents
unawares as they were preparing to go to bed.
A member of the community, Isaac Kahwun, said the gunmen came as
usual and started shooting sporadically to announce their presence.
Kahwun said, “We sent a distress call to the special task force in
charge of the village and the security agent asked us to escape to safer
places claiming that they did not have the power to confront the
gunmen in case they came back in the night.
“As a result of this, all the villagers left their houses and took refuge in
neighbouring villages. In the middle of the night, the gunmen returned
and set all the houses ablaze.
“Some house where relief materials were kept for onward distribution to
victims of the earlier attacks were also looted by the attackers while
they set the remaining ones ablaze.
“Over 1,000 residents who fled their homes are now sleeping in primary
schools in neighbouring villages.”
The Chairman, Riyom Local Government Area, Mrs. Josephine Piyo,
who had wanted to visit the village to assess the extent of the damage,
was turned back by the task force.
She was told by the task force of the risk of paying such a visit, saying
they could not guarantee her safety in the affected village.
The angry council chairman, however, expressed her displeasure over
what she described as persistent attacks on the local government by
gunmen.
She said, “In the past two months, over 10 villages in my local
government have been attacked and many people killed, yet security
personnel are here watching without doing anything to defend the
people or arrest the gunmen.
It will be recalled that Shonong village was attacked early last year
during which 36 residents, especially women and children were killed
by some gunmen.

PoliticsRe: Ndiigbo, Her Non-igbo Eastern Neighbors And The Myth Of Igbo Domination by TIMEISWISDOM(m): 9:48am On May 30, 2015
Abagworo:
Nobody has problem with Igbos politicaly in this modern era. The war finished 45 years ago and even though the bruises remain we have all moved on in a united Nigeria. Our alliance should be with justice and not with South-South or North per se. We should align with whatever leads to progress of Nigeria as a nation. I almost gave up on Nigeria but Buhari's emergence has rekindled my hope.
GUY YOU ARE NOT AN IGBO MAN STOP THIS NAIVE PRETENCE OF YOURS OR SIMPLY GET OUT OF HERE.

We are glad Yale took the position because it is now registered to the world and the awareness that Okonjo-Iweala is an incompetent and over rated technocrat is spread globally.

She has been projected, successfully and rightly so, as a liability...and not an asset to the national and regional economy.

This raises the risk and makes her unappealing for hire by any international body working for the upliftment of human society on a global scale.

lt all depends on what you define as poor performance. Enugu city enjoyed 8 years of total government attention in beautification and road construction. Abia enjoyed 8 years of industrial growth and construction of power generating and distribution plants. Between beautification of one city and industrial growth which would you choose. Inability of States to pay salary is as a result of dwindling oil revenue and their inability to increase IGR

I have said it before and I will say it again Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala still remains my most patriotic Nigerian. Even in the face of baseless accusations and unwarranted insults, this lady has always answered when Nigeria called her and to my best of knowledge, has always given her all refusing to chicken out like most of our so called renowned intellects on the bases on upholding integrity leaving me to wonder if their integrity is more valuable than the lives millions of Nigerian that would be affected positively or even saved if they accept such offers

PoliticsNigeria: Okonjo-iweala Bags Yale Varsity's Honorary Doctoral Degree by TIMEISWISDOM(op): 9:20pm On May 20, 2015
Abuja — The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the
Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has bagged an honorary doctorate
at Yale University, one of the most prestigious institutions of higher
learning in the United States of America.
The minister was awarded a Doctor of Humane Letters at Yale's 2015
Commencement Ceremony in New Haven, Connecticut on Monday.
By this honour, she becomes the second Nigerian in the university's
314-year history to receive its highest honour after Nobel Laureate,
Prof. Wole Soyinka, who received an honorary Doctor of Letters in
1980.
Conferring the award, the President of the university, Prof. Peter
Salovey, described Okonjo-Iweala as "a brilliant reformer and dedicated
public servant."
The minister, he added, "has spearheaded efforts to stabilise and grow
Nigeria's economy, battling widespread government corruption and
creating greater fiscal transparency and discipline."
Yale's honorary doctoral degree is seen globally as a very important
honour. According to the institution, "Those who have received
honorary degree are scholars, public servants, Nobel Prize winners and
heads of states.
"Collectively, they represent the aspirations of this institution. Yale
honorary degree recipients serve as models of excellence and service to
our students, to our graduates, to our community and to the world."
Okonjo-Iweala was honoured alongside the Chair of the Board of
Governors of US Federal Reserve System Janet Yellen; world renowned
Beninoise singer and songwriter, Angelique Kidjo; University Professor
and founding member of the Institute for Comparative Literature and
Society at Columbia University, Gayatari Chakravorty Spivak; Professor
and Director of the Starr Center for Human Genetics at Rockefeller
University, Jeffrey Michael Friedman; inventors and entrepreneurs, Elon
Musk and Dean Kamen, among others.
Yale had in the past honoured a handful of other Africans such as
Liberian President, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and Archbishop Desmond
Tutu.
As Finance Minister in 2004, Okonjo-Iweala and the economic team
that she led, helped Nigeria obtain debt relief, wiping out $30 billion of
Paris Club debt, leading to a tripling of the growth rates.
In her second coming as the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and
Finance Minister since August 2011, Okonjo-Iweala has focused on
building strong foundations and institutions critical for the survival and
sustenance of the economy. She bravely fought corruption in
government with fierce dedication and unflagging energy.

Wsdm:
I am yet to come to terms on why the other part of the country will not allow these people to simply go away and form their 'Isreal' in Africa. Each time they have an opportunity the maim the North and destroy its essence- a study case is the proxy war on Boko haram where Ihejirika led the army to kill General Shuwa, destroyed the largest cattle market in Africa(Potiskum), destroyed the largest fishery market in Africa(Bama) and thousands of innocent civillians all in the name of fighting boko haram. I have started telling my Northern friends that if the present elite refuses to devide this country, we shall do that during our time. Buhari should just stablise the Northern economy and let us seperate. If the Northern elites did not seperate this country at the apropriate time;one day they will slip into power like GEJ and also look for an opportunity to destroy any development we have achieved. Every body in the North seems to be in total darkness about boko haram. So is not a rocket science that someone is truly behind it- and who could that be order than the people in power who have shown such desdain to the North. They have done that before, did it now and shall be happy to do it again. Just imagine the amount of destruction that happened to the North and all these people could do is to blame the North for salvating themselves by voting out the 'plague'. The seperation I shall scheme for as long as i live. Proudly Arewa.
