When Jagaban, the Knight Commander was pushing the CNG initiative, some folks with limited understanding were making a fun of it. Now we have seen the gradual progress CNG is beginning to have across the country. Dangote is changing the face of logistics in the oil sector with an initial units of 4,000 CNG trucks, pretty soon, other marketers will follow suit. Lagos is also pioneering food logistics with CNG trucks, the impact will reduce costs of food items, good and services. Aside that, transporters are gradually embracing CNG as well. Politics › Governor Sanwo-Olu Unveils 150 CNG Trucks To Boost Food Logistics by TimeManager(op): 3:33pm On Jul 25, 2025 |
The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, inaugurated the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered trucks at the launch of the N500 billion ‘Produce for Lagos’ Offtake Guarantee Fund and Programme on Wednesday in Lagos.
The News Agency Nigeria (NAN) reports that the trucks would transport food from across the country to Lagos in order to reduce post-harvest losses in the country.
Sanwo-Olu described the initiative as part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to foster the achievement of food security in the country.
“Lagos is Nigeria’s food market and we consume over 50 per cent of the food that is traded in the Southwest part of the country.
“We have a food economy that is valued at over N6 trillion, it is also noted that Lagos loses 50 per cent of its food largely due to poor storage and inefficient transportation.
“It became clear that we must organise our food systems to feed our people well.
“The ‘Produce for Lagos’ programme will help to create logistics support and it will help to connect directly to the Lagos dynamic food economy.
“That is why we are launching Ecolog logistics trucks through the Lagos State Food Systems Infrastructure Company,” Sanwo-Olu said.
The governor added that the trucks, when in operation, would help to create a new agriculture ecosystem.
“We are going to launch about 150 40-foot trucks that will serve as a step or test for the smooth movement of food.
“The trucks are all CNG powered that can travel to all parts of the country on a full tank and return back to Lagos without refuelling at any petrol station.
“These trucks are first of its kind and it is a big initiative for us as a country and as a state.
“So, for us the N500 billion is just a tip, and as you see that some of our friends in private sector are beginning to show interest.
“What we are doing here is that we are creating a whole new agricultural ecosystem, one that will rise from the demands of today and tomorrow, to combining our policy that will be well focused, creating a financial model that will outlive us.
“And building infrastructure that will live even for generations that are coming behind us and ensuring that we have a robust database that everybody can work on,” Sanwo-Olu said. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng) https://nannews.ng/2025/07/23/lagos-unveils-150-cng-trucks-to-boost-food-logistics/

Unfortunately, Nigerian opposition are not playing intellectual opposition but a destructive kind of opposition. Sadly, the media who are charged to enlighten the masses are even more culpable in misinformation and many media houses are acting like a paid political wing of opposition. More unfortunately is the average Nigerian who prioritizes stomach infrastructure over the overall health/wellbeing of the economy. The Nigerian masses are going the way of Venezuelans and Zims who only wanted to eat, eat and eat without minding the collapse of their economy staring them in the face. While their Governments were busy spending recklessly on importation, incurring calamitous amount of debts and fattened on corruption. One thing is clear, if you don't have an healthy economy, later or sooner, you will be plunged into greater hunger epidemic. “We committed them to subsidise PMS. It still wasn’t enough. NNPC took the taxes they were supposed to pay and they used that as well. It was not enough. They started taking the taxes of the other operators in the industry to also pay for the PMS. It still wasn’t enough. If we had continued till this day, the subsidy regime would have collapsed. After NNPCL had exhausted all revenue options, they resorted to selling our crude oil in advance to collect loans just to keep on paying subsidy. It was that bad. -Kiss the truth! |
Politics › Nigeria Now Spends Less Than 50% Of Revenue On Debt From 97% by TimeManager(op): 5:30pm On Jul 24, 2025 |
The Chairman of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, Mr Taiwo Oyedele, disclosed that the country currently spends less than 50 per cent of its revenue on debt servicing.
While serving as the keynote speaker at PwC’s Executive Summit on Nigeria’s Tax Reform, with the theme “The New Tax Era: What Nigeria’s Tax Reform Means to Individuals and Businesses”, in Lagos on Monday.
Oyedele explained that the government was spending almost 97 per cent of its revenue on debt servicing before the economic reforms.
“We’ve cleared unmet forex futures that were more than $7bn. And we move from under $4 bn external reserve to over $20bn today. Budget deficit is declining, and we’re spending more on infrastructure.
“Tax to GDP ratio moved from under 10 per cent is now 13.5 per cent in two years. Instead of 97 per cent, service debt is now under 50 per cent in two years. We no longer print money to spend. Rather, we’ve paid down part of the ways and means that the previous administration printed,” he stated.
He explained that the country’s currency could have become worthless if the Federal Government had not embarked on the current economic reforms.
He noted that the country was heading in the direction of Zimbabwe and Venezuela, whose economies had collapsed.
“Nigeria today, without reforms, would have looked like that. Bigger deficits, more naira printed. We will have easily over $10bn unmet forwards. Tax to GDP ratio will be less than 10 per cent. We’ll be spending over 100 per cent of our revenue to service debts. You hold money; you will not find PMS to buy. There’ll be more poverty, and there will be more ways and means.
“I thought to bring the currency. I’ll show you. So, this currency, this banknote in my hand, is 100 trillion Zimbabwean dollars. I’m not 100 trillion one notes. This note, at the time I got it, was barely enough to buy a loaf of bread. I gave my friend, whom I got this from, $10 and he is still grateful till tomorrow. This is what would have happened to Nigeria. Nigeria was the road to Venezuela and Zimbabwe.”
According to the FPTRC chair, the country could have reached a $1bn economy by now if the government had begun the ongoing economic reforms a decade ago.
“If some of these reforms that were done in the past two years had been done 10 years ago. I tell you authoritatively today, Nigeria will be a $1bn economy guaranteed. And the price of PMS will be under N300/litre because the exchange rate will be under N300 to the USD.
“We’ve done this analysis over the past 10 years. Comparable balance of payment between Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa. Yet naira has lost six and a half times more value than Kenya shillings and South African rand. If only we had maintained the same level of stability as those two other countries.
Nigeria will be a $1tn economy. What that means is the size of the middle class will probably be 10 times what it is. Every single investor in the world will take a seriously enough about,” Oyedele asserted.
He argued that the government was wasting trillions of naira subsidising petrol, spending a large chunk of its revenue to service debt and was just printing naira at will.
“Naturally, you would hold N100,000; you will not find a litre of PMS to buy. And I said that with all sense of responsibility. Responsibility because we’re running out of fiscal space to deal with the subsidy.
“Many people like you, including myself, knew there was a lot of corruption in it. That’s true. Could we have removed the corruption in the time frame? No. We had a huge budget deficit. We printed over N30tn to spend. We’re not building roads. It wasn’t that we’re building electricity. We were paying salaries,” he emphasised. https://punchng.com/nigeria-now-spends-half-its-revenue-on-debt-presidential-panel/?amp

Politics › NNPC Declares N905bn Profit For June, Remits N6.96tn In 5 Months by TimeManager(op): 6:47pm On Jul 23, 2025 |
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) says it has remitted N6.96 trillion to the Federation Account within the first five months of 2025.
The NNPC Monthly Report Summary for June, released on Monday, revealed that it posted a Profit After Tax (PAT) of N905 billion for June 2025, marking a decline from the N1.054 trillion reported in May.
In spite of the drop in monthly profit, it confirmed a total statutory remittance of N6.961 trillion to the federation account from January to May 2025, up from N5.583 trillion recorded between January and April of the same year.
It indicated a steady rebound in upstream activities, with daily crude oil and condensate production rising to 1.68 million barrels per day (bpd), the highest since January.
It showed that the NNPC’s revenue in June stood at N4.571 trillion, down from N6.008 trillion in May, reflecting fluctuations in the global oil market.
“Crude oil and condensate production increased slightly, rising from 1.629 million bpd in May to 1.68 million bpd in June.
“Natural gas production also rose to 7.581 billion standard cubic feet per day (scf/d) in June, up from 7.352 billion scf/d in May, indicating a steady recovery in output,” the report indicated.
According to the report, fuel availability improved as well, with petrol availability at NNPC retail stations increasing to 71 per cent in June from 62 per cent in May.
It further revealed that the completion of critical gas infrastructure projects showed progress: the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano (AKK) pipeline moved to 83 per cent completion from 81 per cent, while the OB3 pipeline remained at 96 per cent completion.
“Upstream pipeline availability slightly dipped from 98 per cent in May to 97 per cent in June,” it added.
The report also highlighted ongoing strategic and technical efforts, including the successful crossing of the AKK River Niger segment, which has significantly de-risked pipeline completion.
It disclosed that a technical review of the OB3 River Niger crossing has begun to apply insights gained from AKK’s progress.
The reviews of the Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna refineries remain ongoing.
On its Corporate Social Responsibility activities, it stated that it successfully conducted a Financial Literacy Programme in June for over 67,000 NYSC members across Nigeria, bringing the total trained under the programme to 870,383.
It said all production, sales and financial figures were provisional and subject to reconciliation with relevant stakeholders.
According to the report, this performance highlights NNPC Ltd.’s continued role as a crucial revenue contributor to the Nigerian government amid fiscal pressures and ongoing economic reforms. (NAN) https://www.vanguardngr.com/2025/07/nnpc-declares-n905bn-profit-for-june-remits-n6-96tn-in-5-months/

Politics › Mayor Of Houston Urges FG To Open Consulate, Start Direct Flights by TimeManager(op): 6:34pm On Jul 23, 2025 |
Mayor of Houston, John Whitmire, has proposed the establishment of a Nigerian consulate in Houston and the introduction of direct flights between Nigeria and the city as part of broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria–United States relations.
The proposal was delivered during a diplomatic meeting between the City of Houston and Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), held in Houston. Mayor Pro Tem Martha Castex-Tatum represented Mayor Whitmire at the meeting.
Mayor Whitmire noted that Houston hosts one of the largest Nigerian populations in the United States and said that a direct air route and local consular representation would significantly improve access to services for Nigerians living in the city.
“These measures will not only deepen our engagement with the Nigerian community but also promote closer collaboration in consular services, trade, and diaspora relations,” Whitmire said in remarks conveyed by Castex-Tatum.
He emphasized that formal consular representation in Houston would facilitate more efficient processing of documentation and provide diplomatic support to the Nigerian population in the city, while direct flights would enhance travel, commerce, and connectivity between both countries.
Responding to the proposals, Hon. Dabiri-Erewa said the Nigerian government is aware of the requests and that both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Aviation are considering them.
“I can assure you that discussions are ongoing with the relevant ministries on both the consulate and direct flight requests. We understand their importance to the diaspora community and to bilateral engagement,” Dabiri-Erewa stated.
She described the meeting as constructive and forward-looking, noting Houston’s long-standing relationship with Nigeria and the potential for further collaboration across sectors.
Also present at the meeting were Ambassador Chigozie Obi, former Nigerian Ambassador to Liberia; Mr. Kunle “Kay” Elegbede, International Community Relations Manager for Mayor Whitmire; Toni Jenkins, Consular Relations Manager; Isabella Benavides, International Affairs Liaison; and Yorke Sydney, an intern at the mayor’s office.
Sydney, who attended the meeting as part of her exposure to international affairs, expressed interest in Dabiri-Erewa’s transition from journalism to political and diplomatic service.
No formal timeline was announced for the consulate’s possible establishment or the launch of direct flights, but both sides indicated that discussions would continue. https://guardian.ng/news/houston-mayor-urges-fg-to-open-consulate-start-direct-flights/

Politics › Ganduje’s Replacement Tops Agenda As APC Holds NEC Meeting On Thursday by TimeManager(op): 7:24pm On Jul 22, 2025 |
Barring any last-minute change, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will meet in Abuja on Thursday to deliberate on key issues threatening cohesion within the party.
Credible sources at the APC national secretariat in Abuja disclosed that top on the agenda is the matter of the party’s leadership, particularly the emergence of Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s substantive successor.
Daily Trust reports that Ganduje resigned as national chairman on June 27, paving the way for the deputy national chairman (North), Ali Bukar Dalori, to assume office in an acting capacity.
Multiple sources confirmed that the NEC meeting is essentially being convened to decide Dalori’s future and that of other members of the National Working Committee (NWC).
While some party insiders said the NEC is expected to ratify Dalori’s role and give him a timeframe within which to organise an elective national convention to choose a substantive chairman, others insist that President Bola Tinubu holds the decisive card and may choose a substantive chairman during the meeting.
The NEC is the second-highest decision-making organ of the APC, comprising the president, vice president, governors elected on the party’s platform, NWC members, state chairmen, and other key stakeholders.
NWC meets, forwards draft agenda to President Tinubu
Ahead of the NEC meeting, the NWC held a two-hour closed-door meeting on Monday. However, the agenda of the meeting was not disclosed, and there was no media briefing afterwards.
A source told Daily Trust that the NWC finalised a draft agenda and transmitted it to President Tinubu for approval.
“The meeting will hold as scheduled, but we don’t know the kind of politics the president and other stakeholders might play.
“However, at the NWC level, the draft agenda covers the leadership transition in the party, elective convention, congresses, and e-registration of members, among other items,” the source said.
Offering a legal perspective, Barrister Bashir Maidugu, a member of the APC Constitution Review Committee (2022), told Daily Trust that the NEC is constitutionally empowered to appoint a substantive national chairman.
He cited Article 13:3(ii) of the APC Constitution, which allows the NEC to “discharge all functions of the national convention in between national conventions.”
“It was in this same spirit that Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje was nominated immediately after Senator Abdullahi Adamu’s resignation. However, any nomination must still be ratified at the next national convention,” Maidugu explained.
He further referenced Section 13.3(c) of the party’s constitution, which limits the acting tenure of national officers to 12 calendar months, including that of the national chairman.
Meanwhile, there are speculations that the NEC may dissolve the current NWC entirely and appoint a 13-member caretaker committee to oversee a fresh elective convention.
“There are still NWC members loyal to Ganduje, who is no longer in office and thus cannot be trusted. Others are allegedly hobnobbing with the opposition coalition. So, the thinking in some quarters is to get rid of them before 2027,” a party source disclosed.
It would be recalled that in 2020, the NEC dissolved the Adams Oshiomhole-led NWC and appointed then Yobe State governor, Mai Mala Buni, as chairman of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee. The committee, after two years, conducted the elective convention that produced Senator Abdullahi Adamu as national chairman.
Reacting to the rumours, APC’s National Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, in a telephone interview with Daily Trust, dismissed the claims.
On whether the NEC meeting will hold, he said, “Yes, affirmed.” But on the agenda, he stated, “No, I don’t have it. I’m not privy to that.”
Asked about the rumoured plan to dissolve the NWC, Ibrahim said, “I can’t confirm that. But I’ve heard people say such things. For now, all those reports are rumours and speculations.
I don’t know where they are getting their information. I wouldn’t know until I’m officially informed.”
On the likelihood of Dalori’s role being ratified, he added, “It’s my hope. But it’s not something I can confirm. NEC can decide anything.”
A source at the APC national secretariat, however, told Daily Trust that other issues on the agenda include upcoming party congresses, role of the opposition, internal crises in some state chapters, and preparations for the 2026 FCT Council elections and the 2027 general elections.
Dalori is also expected to brief the NEC on developments since the last meeting in February, including opposition defections, financial reports, and overall party affairs.
Group urges Tinubu not to dissolve NWC
Amidst the uncertainties, some APC chieftains under the aegis of the All Progressives Stakeholders Forum have appealed to President Tinubu not to dissolve the NWC, warning that such a move could cause division within the party.
In an open letter signed by their president, Dr Maryam Danjaki, and addressed to Tinubu on Monday, the forum urged the president to allow the current NWC to serve until the next national convention.
The group also extended condolences to Tinubu over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“With deep respect and patriotic concern, we, the members of the All Progressives Stakeholders Forum—an integral voice within the APC family—write this open letter to commend your leadership and to share our candid views on matters vital to the unity and progress of our great party,” the letter read.
“Your Excellency, at this critical stage in your administration and the life of our party, any reshuffling or tampering with the current leadership may ignite internal unrest, weaken cohesion, and provide political opportunists with the chance to exploit the situation.
“The current NWC has shown considerable stability, and continuity at this time will strengthen internal trust and give your administration the necessary backing to deliver the ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda without distractions.
“This is not a time for uncertainty. It is a time for consolidation, harmony, and focus—both in governance and within the party.” https://dailytrust.com/gandujes-replacement-tops-agenda-as-apc-holds-nec-meeting-thursday/

Politics › Tinubu To Unveil Kaduna College Of Petroleum In July by TimeManager(op): 6:41pm On Jul 22, 2025 |
President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to inaugurate the newly licensed College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna later this month, according to Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani.
Sani disclosed on Monday when he received the Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund, Ahmad Aminu, who paid him a courtesy visit at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House.
The governor hailed Tinubu for granting the provisional operating licence that allows the college to function as a private postgraduate university focused on petroleum and energy studies.
Commending the President’s commitment to advancing local capacity in Nigeria’s petroleum sector, Sani said,
“We cannot make progress in a fast-changing and complex society if we fail to develop local capacity.
“This college, if well supported, has the potential of developing the local manpower that will change the face of Nigeria’s petroleum industry.”
He assured the PTDF Executive Secretary and his team of the Kaduna State Government’s full support to ensure the commissioning is a resounding success, adding that the state is ready to assist the college in whatever way necessary to achieve its objectives.
“Kindly approach the Kaduna State Government for any assistance required to ensure the smooth running of this important institution,” Sani told the PTDF delegation.
The governor described the establishment of the college as a significant milestone, not only for Kaduna State but for Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
He noted that Kaduna is now poised to play a more strategic role in driving innovation, research, and capacity development within the energy sector.
Earlier in his remarks, Aminu said his team was at Government House to brief the governor on the progress made so far towards the take-off of the college, particularly with preparations for the first cohort of students scheduled for September 2025.
According to the Executive Secretary, the college has already been licensed by the National Universities Commission to operate as a private postgraduate institution and will commence with 19 academic programmes across six departments and three faculties.
He disclosed that the PTDF has received 3,702 applications for the Split-Site PhD Programme, with screening and interviews currently ongoing.
According to him, successful candidates will soon be admitted into the first batch of academic programmes.
He added that the three faculties that will begin operations include: the Faculty of Computing and Telecommunications Technology, the Faculty of Earth and Applied Sciences, and the Faculty of Energy Law and Management Sciences.
Galadima explained that the college’s Split-Site PhD Programme was designed to expose Nigerian scholars to both local and international best practices in the petroleum and energy industries.
He said under the arrangement, students would primarily study at CPESK in Kaduna but would also undertake short academic stays at partner universities in the United Kingdom, including the University of Strathclyde, Robert Gordon University, and the University of Portsmouth.
“These partnerships will support the delivery of a world-class postgraduate curriculum through a model that combines local knowledge with international exposure,” Galadima stated.
He also recalled that the idea to establish the college dates back to 2009, when the PTDF conceived the project as part of its mandate to develop senior technical, managerial, and executive personnel for Nigeria’s energy sector.
However, he said, delays over the years had stalled its progress until recent support from the Tinubu administration cleared the path for full take-off.
“With the college now fully licensed, we are confident it will contribute significantly to addressing Nigeria’s skills gap in petroleum and energy studies.
“This institution will serve as a hub for research, innovation, and manpower development within and beyond Nigeria’s borders,” Galadima said.
The Executive Secretary commended Sani for prioritising education and capacity building in Kaduna State, noting that the governor’s continued support has been instrumental in fast-tracking the project’s progress. https://punchng.com/tinubu-to-unveil-kaduna-college-of-petroleum-july/
