Oh my goodness!! Those poor, poor innocent souls! @Timijo, are these examples REAL enough for you? What advice would you have given to the deceased if they'd come to you with their problems? Or maybe, they did turn to people like you for help only to receive "Don't you dare consider divorce. Stay in there and bear it." And before you mention prayers to me - how do you know they didn't fast and pray fervently??
How is their relationship with their maker before these things happened? You guys are just twisting my posts. I have nt say divorce ur spouse and I did nt also say don't divorce ur spouse. If it as come to life threatening, I think there could be a separation from each other for a while pending til when d man or d woman wil come back to his or her senses. If they are believing xtians, nor of them can get marry to another person according to the word of our Lord Jesus Christ. |
Siena: Daawwwg. What do you class as insults? If you can't take the heat, you know what you can do. Unless you want me to spoon-feed you as well? Self-pity isn't an attractive trait to have.So clamouring for divorce and encouraging it as become facts? Facts my foot. |
cutilious: cause its hard to find mr rightU can get what u want if u lean on God. |
Siena: Only an arrogant bully would attempt to ram his / her opinions down the throat of others. And please, speak for yourself, not "others." I have the right to post my opinions, just as much as you have the right to express yours. Please define "insult." Because I haven't insulted you, I've merely stated my opinions as I see them.So u can't state ur opinion witout eructing insult. Go ahead and say whatever that pleases u, u gat ur vocal cavity. |
Siena: Only an arrogant bully would attempt to ram his / her opinions down the throat of others. And please, speak for yourself, not "others." I have the right to post my opinions, just as much as you have the right to express yours. Please define "insult." Because I haven't insulted you, I've merely stated my opinions as I see them. Then stay and continue to eruct insult. I will nt insult u but u can continue to insult me as it is ur right to do so. |
Siena: Daawwwg, think next time before you open a thread. It may not be for myself alone, but it's still for public consumption. I prefer to be objective, unlike yourself who started a thread, looking at just one perspective. If you'd gone for a "for" and "against", we wouldn't be having this conversation. And don't keep on liking physical violence, abuse, infidelity and adultery to "misunderstanding." Anyone with half a brain would see the difference.I said it again, "The thread is not for u alone. So, y trying to coercion ur ill will on me and others. If u disagree with my points, check out instead of insulting me". Are u d only one who have read the write up? There are people who have shown disagreement without insult. If everybody behaves lyk u on this forum, I don't think there wil b friendship. |
Siena: No. What I saw was you acting out the real you. You let your mask slip, proving you're just as devious as they come, despite your self-righteous attitude on here. You're a hypocrite.I want u to knw dat d write up is 4 many people nd nt for u alone. If u dont lyk it, get out nd dont stand as a stumbling block. If u are nt encouraging divorce, y are u antagonising d points. U have been my antagonist al along as if I am talking to u alone. What u are clamouring for is dat couple shud divorce any tym they have misunderstanding. |
nggold: @Timijo,You got it wrong. You can't talk without insult. I immagine how u discus things with ur spouse, i.e if u have one. You can insult me but I wil not because I know who I am, but I wil nt b'cos I don't know you. |
greatgod2012: Another bad habit: PRIDE.You got it. Thanks for the addition. |
Siena: Daawwwg, you posted this:Hey! Common! Don't be naive. What you saw is just a jape. I thought I am dicussing with a mature mind, not knowing that........ I now realise that you are just a hairsplitter. Let it be known unto you that you can never understand me by mere dicussion on the net until you have physical interraction with me and that cannot be. You are the whited sepulchre b'cos you are happily married to your wife with 2 kids and you are here encouraging others to divorce their spouse for flimsy reason. So, you mean divorce is the only solution to a troublesome home? What if you have issues with your wife and someone advise her to divorce you, will you be happy with that person? Am sure the answer is NO. What will be your pull ahead if everybody around you become a divorcee? I have been involved in mending a marriage that is about to hit the rock and am happy that they are doing fine now. I ask again, what is your joy in breaking people's marriages? |
eddy1977: Great thread.Thanks. I know that. I chose to analyse it for people to understand it. |
Here are some of the things that ruin happy homes. 1. Unfaithfulness to each other as husband and wife 2. Starving each other of sex b’cos of misunderstanding 3. When a wife refuse to cook for her husband b’cos of quarrel between them 4. Dirtiness from either of the party 5. Selfishness i.e. wanting to have everything to yourself or the best without considering the other person 6. Keeping secret from each other. This could be past or present secret 7. Resentment i.e. avoiding yourself because of unsettled quarrels 8. Envious of each others progress and success in life 9. Inability to apologize to each other. When there are issues 10. Bad communication i.e. using insultive and abusive words toward each other 11. Inability to accept correction from your spouse 12. Starving each other of fund i.e. being stingy to each other 13. Telling lies to your spouse 14. Impatient with your spouse 15. Uncontrollable anger 16. Intolerance i.e. being untouched. You always find fault in your spouse 17. Interference of third party e.g. friends and in-laws 18. Prayerlessness in family and many others I want you to know that you can enjoy the peace and joy of God in your home by doing whatsoever Jesus tells you in his words in your home. What has Jesus said? 1. Eph 5: 21-33 –Submit to your spouse and love one another as Christ loves the church. 2. 1 Thess 5:17-Pray together as family i.e. have a strong and consistent family altar 3. 2 Corin 6:14-18-Don’t be unequally yoke with the unbelievers. Don’t use the philosophy of the world to run your home 4. Eph 4:25-Don’t lie to one another. Be truthful and let your yes be yes and your no be no 5. Eph 4:26-Control your anger. Don’t be destructive when you are angry 6. vs 29-Be courtesy in communication to your spouse 7. Seek Godly counsel from genuine servants of God when having misunderstanding between you and your spouse. Finally, you must be born again. These things cannot be done by an ordinary man or woman, but children of God. |
Movingcoil: I will must definitely marry in the next 20 yrs am 42 and my babe is just 2 yrs old, we agreed 2 get married wen she is 22While not wait till she clocks 28 or just marry now. Remember, another guy can overtake you. |
What ppl don't understand that level of happiness stabilizes over time. Marriage does not bring you MORE happiness, neither does having children affect your level of happiness. If you have high conflict activation, plz waka and divorce. If conflict activation is low, work at it. Marriage is not bliss, it's work.
This is a fallacy of philosophical logic. |
Siena: The topic says reasons not to get a divorce divorce, not people should NOT get divorced. You don't need to be judgemental in your approach. I am not in support of a man mal-treating his wife by hiding under religion. I can't mal-treat my wife and I wil never do that by manipulating the scripture,God forbid, that be far from me. All am saying is that, things can be settle amicably without divorce. And if there wil be a divorce in the case of adultery or fornication, the spouse should be ready to go with the Godly conditionif they are heavenly minded.. |
nggold: @ sienaI think ur advice is not needed, keep it to your self and don't waste ur mb because u lack good manners of approach. I am not in support of a man mal-treating his wife by hiding under religion. I can't mal-treat my wife and I wil never do that by manipulating the scripture, God forbid, that be far from me. All am saying is that, things can be settle amicably without divorce. And if there wil be a divorce in the case of adultery or fornication, the spouse should be ready to go with the Godly condition if they are heavenly minded.. |
UmericanGirl: He is married to NairalandThat's is an over statement. |
Siena: Efe, he'll never admit it. I mix with folk like him on a daily basis - they simply loath to admit they were wrong. The topic says reasons not to get a divorce. Read and have a rethink. It reveals the adverse effects of divorce to people. They can make their choice. But you have refused to answer all my questions. I have told u that divorce is allowed in d case of adultery or fornication, but it goes with a condition that people can not cope with. If u are a true xtian, wil u advice any victim of a troublesome home to get a divorce and remarry? Pls answer this question without sentiment. |
Siena: And of course, you still dance around my questions. It's quite straight-forward, and a direct answer will do. Does the Bible state INFIDELITY and FORNICATION as grounds for divorce? If a husband is a wife-battering brute, they've sought counselling which has failed, should the wife remain with him, and wait for him to kill her?Divorce is allowed in the case of fornication or adultery. But it goes with a condition. The condition is that, the victim must be ready to stay unmarried. He or she cannot marry to another person. If the victim remarry, it is a sin to the almighty God. Now, tell me, if the victim is btw 25 to 50 years, can he or she remain unmarried. I guess d answer is NO. So, why divorce? Even if the victim remarried, what is d guaranty that there will nt be problem again. Or you xpect her to be jumping from one man to another like harlot? Instead of you to give a lasting remedy to the problem, u are advocating divorce. Are u saying that divorce is the rightful pill to every troublesome home? And if every body will follow your counsel, it means that many women wil not have husbands over them. |
Wish yourself more good things. |
Siena: Guy, stop interpreting the Bible to suit your warped sense of reasoning! You keep harping on about the Bible, yet fail to answer or address one issue. Quoting scriptures and verses doesn't make you a Christian, remember the Devil can quote and recite the Bible from Genesis to Revelations verbatim.Cutting off the head is not the pill for headache, so also divorce is not the solution to marital problem. Two wrongs can not make a right. There is another way of resolving issues in the family rather than divorce as a child of God. |
Siena: Tim, before you quote the Bible as the manual for sustaining marriage, think carefully. It's like those that seek the advice of "pastors" when trying to resolve marital issues. And many a husband or wife has ended up dead as a result. Are u nw saying dat d human brain superceed the believer's instruction(thd bible)? Do u knw d efficacy of God's words? With his words, He made everything in this world. You can find every thing that wil give u a happy and a peaceful home in His words. If anyone allow his/her home to be guided by the word of God, he/she wil nt regret it. But, if u guide ur home by ur brain, by d standard of this falling world, u wil fail woefully. |
1. You are focused on your career. And you are not going to apologize for it. Some people call this being a"b****,"because you are a lady and you have a job that you might be more focused on than smiling pretty and making sure you don' t intimidate Mr. Right. Most of us just call this being alive in 2012 ( you know the time the economy tanked and we had to work to eat). 2. You have standards. You know you could have settled for Mr."I just don' t like your friends,"or,"I just don' t think women have ever done anything important,"or,"so, about that Olufemi,"or even,"I only cheated on you once,"but you realized you could do better. And frankly, being alone is just more manageable and makes you happier than being in a relationship that's the pits. So you didn' t marry him, even though you probably could have. 3. You can' t afford it. According to the Brookings Institute marriage rates are down for people that don' t have money. It's not even that women don' t want to get married , as much as men don' t feel ready to propose until they have the cash to support a family. There is no special Spanx you can buy that will bolster a man's self-esteem to convince him that you don' t care he is broke. Many people are still tied to the idea that men have to out earn women, even though you have a job (remember that you are mega-focused on) and could probably support the both of you . Plus, the average cost of a wedding is 500, 000 naira. Yes, you read that right. 4. You are waiting until all people can get married . Yup, that's right, your personal life is a f****** statement about love . 5. You don' t need or want a symbolic public ceremony to celebrate something you already have. You already know you and boo are ride or die, why spend the money on a wedding when you can do that Spanish immersion program you have been planning for the entire time you 've known each other? You two are an adventurous lot, committed to each other and show it in more genuine ways than the most traditional and played out way ever known to civilization. 6. You 've got a life and friends that you are happy with. If a dude shows up that's cool, but you are not sweating it because every day is an awesome new adventure full of phone calls from loved ones, cupcakes, yoga classes and dance parties. You enjoy each minute, focus on the positive and when you are down (a symptom of life, not just single life) you have 500 friends to call, because you have spent time on all types of relationships, not just the kind that will lead to marriage. Friendship-the realest investment a lady can make. 7. Monogamy just doesn' t work for you . You tried it and it didn' t work. It's better to know now then put unrealistic expectations on yourself and your partner only to have a crappy break-up where it is revealed you are an infidel. We don' t have"respectable"models of these characters (because often cheaters are a*******), so we assume they are all sex crazed home wreckers, but some are genuinely just born this way. 8. You are sexually liberated. See also: sexually adventurous, referred to as"slut"by people from the olden days, religious leaders, people that think vaginas are gross and Tracy McMillan. Right now, you just wanna get down, and that's not a lie, that's libido #realtalk. 9. You have"issues." And you fully realize this and want to deal with them before you get into a serious relationship. Instead of being irresponsible and shoveling them under a rug to save face and look like Mrs. Right, you are dealing with your s*** and getting ready to be in a serious long-term relationship. That does not happen overnight and you shouldn' t rush yourself because of some invented standard age by which you should be married . 10 . You legitimately just don' t want to get married . No, you are not lying to yourself; you actually just don' t want to get married . You 've been to lots of weddings, you appreciated some of the sentiments, you were happy for everyone, but you didn' t walk out wishing it were you that got married . In fact, the idea of a wedding dress makes you break out into hives and you don' t want a blood diamond, you think forever is b******* and you have no interest in feeding into the romantic industrial complex. You have a hard time reconciling your politics with what you see as a deeply problematic institution. (Or, you 're just an atheist.) |
eastman11: @OP, God bless you for this wonderful advice, for those who do not accept your advice let them look inwards and find out why their marriage is not working, if your husband suddenly became abusive you need to check yourself and adjust where possible as i believe that unless you are married to a mad man, no man lays a hand on a woman who said nothing, no man hit a respectful and humble wife, the women that enjoy their marriage are the loyal and humble wife's and these are the women that can change their husband for good, such women people outside always say they control their husband. i have always said that a woman holds the key to a successful marriage. You have said it all. |
chucky234: I was just saying to myself that these points are meant for Oyinbos and not Naija peeps then I saw Chicago, your points are certainly not a good reason for a wife to stay in a hellish marriage especially when the man is a wife beater, haba which woman go dey kampe make one man turn her face to punching bag.Are u saying that the oyinbos are the only people to enjoy their marriages while the blacks continue to have broken homes? |
dridowu: Divorce already deleted frm my DICTIONARY , so not my OPTION.....................................B.I.IGood decesion from you. |
DANILSA: @ OP YOU TRIED SHAA, BUT FOR YOU TO WAKE UP THIS MORNING AND DECIDE TO TYPE A DIVORCE LESSON IS WHAT A CANT UNDERSTAND, DID YOU FIGHT WITH YOUR WIFE YESTERDAY? ME I FEAR OThese were nt type this morning, but yesterday. |
Siena: Tim, your approach is pretty one-sided, to say the least. There's a lot more to divorce than you've posted. There are lots of circumstances you barely touched upon. Just like there's no text book on bringing up kids, there isn't one for sustaining marriage either, especially an abusive one. |
Only an immature person, yet to understand real life, would come up with a one-sided, childishly simplistic view on such a serious issue. Do you understand that divorce is not something taken lightly by those who undergo it? What advice would you give to couples submerged in domestic abuse? Heaven forbid, but if your daughter, sister, aunt, mother or any other female member of your family is married to someone who beats the living daylights out of them - on the slightest issue / provocation...would you still advice them to sit tight? Are you of the mindset that where the children are concerned, it's better for them to have a dead married mother? Or a mother who up sticks and leaves before she is killed? Or you believe a dead mother can look after her kids from the grave?? Same thing for men in violent relationships. What about families where one spouse is a chronic alcholic, drug user or even a serial cheat? Would you would advocate for the partner to sit tight and possibly get sent to an early grave (from picking up STDs and other sexually transmitted nasties?) Real life is not all black and white. There are shades of greys that need to be considered. Only a mature person would understand that.
These are just pieces of advice. The choice is yours. |
Here's Why you Need to Rethink Divorcing your Partner Ending a marriage can not only take a toll on you emotionally, but also physically. Divorce rates are increasing across the world and the reasons range from alcoholism, physical abuse, infidelity, lack of communication, etc. In this day and age of drive-in marriages, quick divorces are no longer shocking. Several marriages end up in divorces. But there are marriages that do face ups and downs and finally make it to the other side. One has to understand, that a marriage is not a packet of instant noodles. You cannot expect it to magically “work”. You have to work on a marriage. So if things go awry in your marriage and you’re considering a divorce, ask yourself why. Go back to the time the problems started and try to understand if there is a pattern. Ask yourself how a divorce can help your current situation. There are several reasons to stay in a marriage and make it work.
1. For the children Staying in the marriage for your children’s sake, is one of the prime reasons cited by couples who have considered divorce at some point or the other. Children from broken homes tend to suffer from more self-esteem problems than children whose parents are together. A child’s home is his/her safety zone. A broken home can cause severe emotional trauma to the child. Children, whose parents are together, have more of a sense of well being and are also proven to be more content. Problems at home also influence a child’s mood pattern, ability to concentrate, ability to be creative, etc. Children from regular homes adjust well to school and are better at making friends and coping with basic problems, such as bullying, peer pressure, etc. 2. The sanctity of marriage as an institution If you believe in the inherent sanctity of marriage as an institution, you should work extra hard to keep it together. There are loads of people falling in love at first sight, getting married quickly and filing for divorce by the end of the month. Every other day, you hear of couples getting divorced. Marriage, as an institution, has become less holy. People seek quick fixes or rather, quick divorces, instead of ironing the differences. Be a role model and fight for your marriage. Be the couple that valued the institution of marriage and made it work, despite odds. If there’s anything worth fighting for, it is a relationship that once had promise and potential. 3. Divorce affects health adversely Divorce brings with it all the unhealthiness attributed to a single life. A Chicago study involving 8,652 people aged 51 to 61, found divorced people have 20% more chronic illnesses such as cancer than those who never marry. They are also more susceptible to depression, heart ailments and diabetes, over the long term. 4. Humans are essentially social animals The need for companionship is a basic human need. It’s nice to come home to a friendly face. Being with someone you love, brings out your nice side. In popular culture, the stereotyped “old maid” or “loser” is typically the crabby and annoyed single or divorced person. 5. Coping with the new void in your life can be tough Most divorced people who suddenly have a lot of free time, do not want to go home to an empty house. Remember, when you were single, you killed time, chatted on the phone, surfed the net, etc., and then suddenly started work at 4 p.m. Most married people tend to be more efficient and organized at work. They tend to finish work on time, to be with their partner. Going home to be with someone you adore and love is certainly the best motivation to work faster and better. 6. Managing finances becomes more challenging Finance is another aspect that makes people rethink their divorce. Most people also put off a divorce, because of the insane expenditure involved. Legal fees, child support, alimony/palimony, different living arrangements, etc., can dent a hole in your bank account. Married couples also tend to make more informed and less risky investment decisions. Additionally, when you’re single, you tend to spend a month’s salary on a dress or dip into your savings to take a vacation. With another person in the relationship, there is accountability and you have to spend responsibly. People also start saving only after marriage, because of the natural progression of their lifestyle. 7. Dating again after a divorce When you get a divorce, you’ll be out in the whole dating zone again. Although that seems exciting for some people, the whole process of dating can be daunting. There are a few things you’ll never have to worry about, after you’re married. You’ll never have to be on your guard and be on your best behaviour to impress the other person. You can be yourself. You can burp and scratch when you want to. No need of worrying if your hair is limp or if your clothes are creased. 8. Multiple sex partners increase odds of STD Although multiple sex partners sounds exciting, it places you at a risk that you will never be exposed to when you’re in a marriage. Contracting a sexually transmitted disease is more common in cases of single people. For some people, sex with your married partner becomes boring. However, sex can become more experimental and fun with a partner over the years. Not to mention the benefits of having only one partner and consequently safe sex. [b]9. Coping with a new partner may be a task If you have invested a lot of time and effort in the relationship, it is a good reason to rethink the divorce. You have spent years getting accustomed to your partner’s way of life, likes, dislikes, habits, temperament, etc. Any other relationship and marriage will take as much time and effort. Are things really so bad, that you’re willing to throw all this away, to take your chance on another relationship that may or may not be the same? Chances of a second marriage ending in divorce are two-fold, as most people subconsciously look for someone similar to their first spouse. 10. Working with the current situation may be easier If your partner is essentially a good person and you truly love him/her, you can find a way to work through this rough patch. As clichéd as it sounds, love does make the world go round. People do crazy things in love. You’ll definitely find it in you to spend some time and effort to make the marriage work. Seek professional help before you take the big decision. A trained and certified counsellor will help you sort differences, and your marriage could become stronger than it was before. |
Tswana: Nooo man you got it wrong those are south africans, u can tell by the man's church badge (ZCC), it was the granfather's funeral, in their culture the granfather was not married to the grandmother, so she has to stand up for him, nothing elseTell them. |
Please, I need good pieces of advice from experienced people in this business. I have been running this business for some months, and now I feel like parking up because of the huge monthly charges from DSTV. Every month I pay N15 000 whether there is football matches or not. Please, if you know what I can do to reduce the monthly subscription so that I can make profit, I will be glad if you share with me. Thanks. |
