dipsy94: Hi guys,
Good morning.
Please I have a couple of questions.
I am currently living in Canada as a PR and I intend to apply for a post graduate program for my brother. He graduated with Second Class, Lower Division (CGPA of 2.8 ) from Mechanical Engineering, but his last 2 years CGPA was 3.6 (I heard it matters).
1. Please guys I intend to apply for MEng or Graduate certificate program for him. Which one is he likely to be accepted in considering his CGPA.
2. Also, all things being equal, do people going for graduate certificate program usually get visa approval?
3. Please if you could also give me suggestions on schools that are less competitive, that he will likely be accepted into without too much hassle, I would be overjoyed.
I am glad to answer any question in regards to Express Entry.
Thank you so very much. ...greetings To answer your questions: 1- what scale for CGPA(i am guessing 3.6/5.0). For Admission it actually depends on the School and Course. Some Schools accept 70% into a masters program for last two sessions of Bsc(that would be 3.5/5.0.....but some require higher line 80% or 85%)... So browsing the Schools requirements is key. If it doesn't look good then he should take the Graduate Certificate path. 2- Yes they do get Visa Approvals 3- You might wanna look into Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) and Humber College... Kindly look out for the Gurus input on these. Cheers! |

Hello @sillysassysally, I checked through the ProdigyFinance website you talked about and noticed they are more into schools in the US and was able to only find University of British Columbia and University of Toronto (the only two Canadian Universities) on the site. Can you please give a roadmap on securing the Loan. Thanks and nice profile |

Nice @lassky lassky: In my own opinion, I think the history of the account is as important as the balance in it. Someone with 10m balance without a good flow is likely to get a refusal letter based on insufficient funds. If your sponsor's soa indeed has a good history or if she can prove the source of the funds, then I think 5m should be okay. I may be wrong o Also, I think the fact that you were going for a prenursing was the reason for the purpose of visit thingy. So now that you are going for nursing, try to explain why you intend to study that abroad instead of staying back in Nigeria, and use your mom as a strong home tie. Explain that you have to come back home to take care of her since your dad is late; it's your obligation! (so sorry to hear about your dad). And erhmm maybe if she can gift you one of her lands and reserve it for your use at the completion of your program. P.S I'm no guru, just an opinion |

[quote author=Omonoba1981 post=78386162]Thanks for the advise! I will put that in mind. My sister could be so lucky, she did same when she came in 2016.
She got in Feb 2016 with Bsc computer science. And change DLI to the poly with Co-OP however she work from Feb/March till she resume and was able to raised 5k from her McDonald. Rounded off her program in December. Applied for PGWP in January and just got 3 years last month. Meanwhile, this Summer she is working with the construction firm she did her co op.
In July her express entry score will be 459, then it will be a total of 3 years work experience where 1year will be Canadian experience and 2 year she was able to claim from Nigeria during her OND with a construction company.
From her Express ENtry profile, with her CELPIP score and adding that she already have 3 year- she met the FSW and CEC with 459.
You might ask why she had that high score.
Age was on her side - got the max score 2 Diploma - one OND that has already gone through WES and another diploma from Canada (she completed in December) she got 15 marks from sibling in Canada.
My advice for those that already have work experience from Nigeria, you can always give Express entry a short, expecially if you still have age on your side, if you find ielts complex try CELPIP etc.
Thanks for the Advice |

Christycode: I got admission to study nursing in Canada(fall 2019), I finished secondary school 2017,(science student), I spent 2018 applying for Canadian visa and it was refused based on financial reasons and purpose of travel... The visa officer said I didn't convince him/her that I'll return to my county after studies, however the admission letter I used last year was that of prenursing(the school said I met the requirements for nursing but there was no space so they gave me prenursing),which is one year duration. So i applied for nursing again this year(on time)Again I used a third party sponsor for that of last year. So my complete timeline for this year is: Acceptance letter(nursing) I want to pay full fees, don't know if it's advisable Mum's my sponsor (her letter of sponsorship) Dad is late Her land and house docs Birth certificate to show our relationship Waec result (5as&4bs) School testimonial SOA of N5M(my school fees is approx $12350) International passport & CIC docs I'm 18 years Please is this timeline okay, i dont want to make same mistake again, what should be added and what should be left out, school resumes September. DJVynoTynto: Please I got admitted into Humber college to biz admin PGD.. I opened a profile online on CIC and I uploaded my letter of acceptance and co,op already.. please the tuition fee reads 7500 for a semester, and I was told to pay for two semesters which reads CAD15k, and I still have 4more semesters to go after that, so my question is, can I pay for 1 semester and if I paid for the 2 semesters, like how much do I still need to declare as proof of funds after that.. and which for my personal self I have close to 3m, and my dad willing to stands as sponsor, can that 3m stand as ties to home country for me? No landed property for me.. I finished NYSC this year March, considering all this factors, what are my chances?thanks ....your personal 3mill is good for LE but for the tuition fees, pay for a semester but if you have the means you can pay for 2 semesters. That would reduce your proof of funds-5-10mil should do. You can't use the 3mill meant for LE for home ties! Or were you trying write something else? |

Bracha: I just checked my certificates, three have ABC, one has BCA and I used them like that. I suggested the affidavit because your was scattered almost completely and also because you seem to be worried about the scattering. Left to me, I'll say no need for affidavit or change of name because all the names - ABC - even in their different arrangements appear in all the documents, to me, that's all that matters. ....thanks Bracha |

RonKenoly: Thanks.
-Finished school 2016, done with NYSC last year April.
-Was home close to year before going for service, during that period I pick some IT related work experience. Yet to get job after service though. So no experience post NYSC.
- Not sure what you meant by study gap, but I stay at home for a year before securing admission.
- Would the transfer of the deed of another building own by Dad be sufficient? .....i honestly think you should tackle the situation one at a time : First, do you have the scholarship admission already? |
Travel › Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 15 by Timothyphillips: 10:13am On Apr 15, 2019 |
RonKenoly: What's the best way to go about the visa application after one has secured a fully funded scholarship.
With cash not presently on ground but with assets (land and building) that could be put on sale to rise the needed cash. If by fully funded scholarship you mean both tuition and cost of living, then you are good... The other angles are : - are you a fresh graduate? -how any years work experience? -do you have study gap? - home ties? .....these should give an idea of the situation. Cheers! |

Asapant: I don't think there should be worry for this. In as much as your birth certificate carries the exact DOB on you WEAC, NECO and also tallies with you Int'l passport. Your birth Cert, Int'l passport will help.
Your birth Cert Waec and Neco result Int'l passport. These three documents will carry your DOB. Also the image on ur int'l passport with other photographs of yours are sufficient enough to clear doubts. Thanks @Asapant, Viber and Bracha(as always) .....Please are you saying there's no need for an Affidavit if DOB on Birth cert, Waec and Intl Passport is same?... Thanks |

Please keep the dream alive; it may not be Canada, but just keep the dream alive. God bless. @Bracha-thanks.....I go try! Please if a candidate has different certificates with the names not been arranged properly, what should the candidate do to regularise (e.g WAEC has ABC as names, NECO has ACB as names, BSC has BAC as names, NYSC has BCA as names)? Qudkom: No at all!!! The 10mill is just to be safe. You have a family so do well to:
1. Include your marriage and birrh certificate of you and your kids. 2. Make sure you include your wifes employment documents. Because they will wonder who will take care of your family when you are in canada. If she's gainfully employed then it's a plus. 3. If you can show receipts that youvr paid your kids school fees for lets say the next 2-3 terms then they no things are save back home. It can also make them believe you wonr try to play smart and bring your family at least not immediately*** 4. Property documents if you have. 5. A detailed compilation of documents to prove what you've been doing since your last degree. 6. Detailed SOP 7. I keep mentioning about your family because that is your golden hometie. And make sure you read my post on home ties very important. 8. You can claim you have an family emergency account just incase anything pops up in your absence 500k-2mill will do it you have the means. That will also make the VO believe you are serious about coming back and you have things in place for your family.
Remember you have to be COHESIVE AND CALCULATED when compiling your documents. If it doesn't sound right or look good then it won't in the eye of a trained VO. All the best. .. .... ... Thanks Qudkom... And Big Congrats... 1-Please I am single but are you saying I have to get married to have strong home ties? 2-And if I get married won't the funds required by the VO go up? 3-Also when they request for Reference letter from Company is it to check the amount am being paid at Work?... Congrats bro! |

Qudkom: For the finance part. I'll advice you pay first semester tuition (familiarise yourself with refund policies of the school first) get your parents preferably to sponsor you. A good account with good inflow/outflow and nothing less than 10-15mill after tuition payment is key. If you have any other inquires holla. .. ... Thanks again @Qudkom. I guess marriage would deal with the Home ties issue. So if I have less 10mil does it mean no way to Canny for me? |
Travel › Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 15 by Timothyphillips: 7:10pm On Apr 09, 2019 |
Qudkom: Age as nothing to do with this what is important are your home ties, financial vibrancy and a solid reason to apply for the study visa. Also establishing a time line for what you've been doing since you graduated is important. Lastly, a there should be a link between your last qualification, work experience and intended program. ... Thanks @Qudkom for the response... For the Home ties what would you recommend(any major one)... For finance- any advice? Solid Reason (any options)... Thanks alot |
