The Director-General of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Dr Tedros Ghebreysus has said that the coronavirus outbreak is teaching the world humility.

Ghebreyesus’ view echoed a recent statement by the founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), Prophet T.B. Joshua.

The WHO DG spoke on May 18 while addressing world leaders during the first virtual session of the World Health Assembly amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

“If this virus is teaching us anything, it’s humility. Time for humility. For all the economic, military and technological might of nations, we have been humbled by this very small microbe,” he said.

The former Ethiopian Minister of Health seemed to corroborate Joshua’s statement at the beginning of 2020, in the early days of the novel coronavirus infection.

Speaking via his Emmanuel TV on January 5, 2020, Joshua said, “This year will be a year of humility. This year, the Lord will humble us with our challenges. Challenges can be affliction… To humble us with these is for those things to destroy us or expose us. Let us move closer to God”.

In the same programme, the cleric warned of serious economic backlash worldwide and a sickness surfacing which leaders initially tried to cover.

In his address, Ghebreyesus equally spoke of the dire toll COVID-19 has taken both in terms of life and livelihoods.

He added: “Lives and livelihoods have been lost or upended. Hundreds of millions of people have lost their jobs. Fear and uncertainty abound. The global economy is headed for its sharpest contraction since the Great Depression,” he stated.

British Physician and former Director at the World Health Organisation, Prof Karol Sikora, says there is a “real chance” that coronavirus will peter out before any vaccine is developed.

Sikora, who made this known via Twitter on Saturday, however, stressed the need to keep maintaining social distancing and following all precautions outlined by health experts to curb the spread of the pandemic.

He said, “There is a real chance that the virus will burn out naturally before any vaccine is developed. We are seeing a roughly similar pattern everywhere – I suspect we have more immunity than estimated.

“We need to keep slowing the virus, but it could be petering out by itself. It is my opinion that this is a feasible scenario. Nobody is claiming to know what will happen for sure – I believe in an unknown situation this is a possibility.

The Pastor says there is need to come up with this relief packages because the lockdown has prevented many Akoko indigenes working in informal sectors from traveling to work or conducting their businesses.

He expressed fear over the ability of its people to feed their families during the lockdown, "with their daily earnings being their only source of sustenance." He also lamented the increase in food prices as a result of the lockdown which by implication has denied many from stocking up on necessities

Nigerian Pastor and Founder of The Synagogue Church of All Nations, T.B. Joshua, has revealed his position regarding asking for monetary offerings through his popular Christian television channel, Emmanuel TV.

Although Joshua was not physically present during the broadcast of Sunday, his Ministers responded to a question posed by a viewer about how the cleric raises funds as he is never heard preaching on the subject of tithes and offerings.

The cleric described giving offerings as “Scriptural” but emphasised that people should give as “God prompts their conscience”.

“They may not be many but people of conscience are giving – I mean, the right people are giving genuinely, for the salvation of their soul—and their giving is blessed of God,” he conceded.

“Wrong people have to be reminded many times before they can give because it is not from their heart,” he explained, clarifying that wrong people referred to “dubious” or “corrupt” individuals who “who got their money, their things from the wrong source.”

He elucidated that such people would give “to be seen, to be heard and to be praised here”, adding that if they later hit hard times, they would often write letters to the church reminding them of the money they had previously given.

He described that such people misguidedly felt their offerings were a form of “bargaining with God to get what they want” or a way of manipulating Him “to give approval to their selfish motives.”



“Giving is like serving. Both should be done with joy – without being reminded, because you don’t need to be reminded to do that which gives you joy,” he continued, adding that believers should ask for the Holy Spirit’s help in giving, receiving and asking.

“The force behind the money given determines the kind of money it is,” Joshua thoughtfully expanded. “When we inherit stolen wealth, we would live under a stolen future, thereby mortgaging our future. Remember, what comes from God goes to Him.”

The cleric stated he was “very careful” when it came to receiving offerings from congregants.

“If I receive something from you, the source and the manner you give will determine whether it’s a blessing or a curse that I receive from you,” he posited.

Relating the question to the current situation in which churches have been shut worldwide due to the coronavirus pandemic, Joshua explained such a period “demands conscience”.

“If you give something from your heart, it will bless you that gives it and also bless the person or ministry that receives it,” the cleric concluded in the interactive program, citing Apostle Paul’s admonishment in 2 Corinthians to give as “each one proposes in his heart, not grudgingly, for God loves a cheerful giver”.

Mubarak Bala, the well-known atheist arrested in Kaduna State for insulting Prophet Muhammed by describing him as a terrorist, equally has a history of mocking prominent Nigerian clergyman TB Joshua.

Many Nigerians woke on Wednesday morning to find #FreeMubarakBala trending on Twitter in Nigeria, spurred by the arrest of President of Humanist Association of Nigeria, Mubarak Bala, over his social media post comparing Prophet Muhammed to TB Joshua of The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN).

However, it can be revealed that hours before his arrest, the prominent atheist also posted a picture mocking the visit of The SCOAN Founder to a ‘prayer mountain’ for prayers against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bala posted a photoshopped image of Joshua in prayers on his Facebook Page with a scantily dressed lady standing beside him, suggesting she was “satan’s wife” who was “tempting the man of God”.

The day earlier, he shared another taunting post, insinuating Joshua’s visit was merely orchestrated for the purpose of taking photographs.

Bala’s arrest has sparked a deluge of reactions on Twitter, with some Nigerians describing his detention as unlawful and others stating the outspoken atheist was getting what he deserved for making such provocative posts.

In 2014, then 29-year-old Bala was said to have been forcefully committed by his family to a psychiatric hospital in Kano when he renounced Islam.

Though Bala’s family believed he was insane, he was later discharged from the psychiatric hospital after his mental stability was medically confirmed.

Bala has a history of making defamatory statements regarding Islam and other religions, particularly drawing the ire of Islamic fundamentalists in Northern Nigeria.

Prominent Nigerian Pastor TB Joshua has again waded into the contentious issue of the worldwide coronavirus outbreak, calling on world leaders to reopen the economy.

In an interactive question and answer session on his Facebook Page – followed by four million people – Joshua first explained why “ministers of God” were “not praying for coronavirus patients”.

“Coronavirus is an issue of the governments; its real origins have to do with mistakes in critical international research. Since their body language is understood, we have to give to Caesar what is Caesar’s – that is the position of ministers of God,” he stated.

The cleric went further to emphasize his assertions that the outbreak of COVID-19 was linked to an “error in advanced technology”, adding that modern warfare was “no longer about physical weapons”.

“That nature is involved can be no excuse, as this has led to the deaths of many innocent people all over the world,” he continued, adding that it was “an attack on the nature of God – the air”.


Joshua went further to state that nature was “fighting back” and disease would naturally “go the way it came”.

However, he warned of retaliatory actions “in the nearest future”, calling on prayers to “avert this”. The cleric concluded by calling on world leaders to “open up the economy”.

“‘Hardship virus’ is more dangerous than coronavirus… The more we delay in opening up the economy, the more we will face a worse situation afterwards,” the founder of Emmanuel TV somberly stated.

Emmanuel TV has released a video on YouTube showing citizens and residents of China confirming the ‘controversial prophecy’ from Prophet TB Joshua that the coronavirus outbreak would end in Wuhan, China by 27th March 2020.

“I had been hearing about TB Joshua since I was a kid but I never believed in him,” one of the residents explained.

However, he heard the prophecy on social media where Joshua declared “rain would fall to wipe away all fears of the unknown”, specifying it would fall in Wuhan, China - the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak - and mentioning the date of March 27th 2020.

He immediately dismissed it as a “fake prophecy” but became perplexed when heavy rain fell across the region from 23rd to 26th March 2020.

Within that timeframe, Wuhan declared it had no new confirmed cases of the disease, leading the resident to change his perception of Joshua’s authenticity.

“On March 27th 2020, the government declared China free of coronavirus; everything has since gone back to normal,” Sun, a Chinese citizen went on to confirm, adding that the few cases being managed now arose from foreign travellers but domestic cases had completely ceased.

“March 27th was the last day for the virus to finish in the epicentre,” a Chinese doctor further corroborated, explaining that the heavy ‘lockdown’ imposed by the Chinese government has now been lifted.

“We started working on March 27th,” a Chinese citizen in Shanghai equally stated. “95% of our offices are now working.”

Joshua came under scrutiny on social media after clips of his prophecy regarding coronavirus were taken out of context, isolated soundbites heavily shared and quotes wrongly attributed to the cleric publicised.

However, the full clip of the prophecy clearly shows Joshua’s message on March 1st and 2nd was directed specifically towards Wuhan, China.

On Saturday, 29th February 2020, he said "a shower of rain would fall to wipe away all fears of the unknown."

On Sunday 1st March 2020, he specifically mentioned 27th March 2020 said, "It will go the way it came" - clearly inferring to coronavirus but not explicitly mentioning its name.

On Monday 2nd March 2020, he clarified that he was praying for rain to fall in the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak - Wuhan, China. On that Monday, rain fell heavily in Wuhan - despite it not being the regular season for rain - and the cases of coronavirus began to steadily drop throughout the region.

As of today, Thursday 26th March 2020 - there have been no NEW cases of coronavirus in Wuhan, China - and China have lifted most travel restrictions in the Hubei region as the disease has effectively been defeated there.

In a letter to President Trump on Thursday 12th March 2020, TB Joshua reiterated: "The noise of coronavirus will be silenced before the end of this month" and in subsequent programmes, he has stressed that the real issue lies in fear, not the disease itself.

So, to clarify, he said that "it would go the way it came" without medical intervention by 27th March 2020 - which has been confirmed as the disease has now gone in Wuhan, China (where it first came) without any vaccine being discovered.

The area of 'the noise of coronavirus being silenced is increasingly coming to fruition as medical doctors have made great advances in testing for suitable medical treatment as well as a vaccine - and the fact that China overcame has provided hope to the rest of the world that it is not as life-threatening as initially thought. After all, the majority of casualties are the extremely frail and elderly or those with pre-existing conditions.

TB Joshua is a man of people and one of the few ministers of God in Nigeria who really practices what he preaches.

I am happy men of God are speaking out about this issue - as fear is a very dangerous weapon!

However, I was slightly confused when Pastor Chris rebuked the devil behind coronavirus and then prayed that doctors/ scientists would soon find a cure and make it available cheaply. If there is a devil behind coronavirus, it means spiritual solution is even more important than scientific solution. That is not to downplay or downgrade the importance of scientists and their role or the value of medicine - but I feel that men of God should champion spiritual things. In this regard, Prophet TB Joshua is a very good example!

Yesterday - Sunday 23-02-20 - David Lyon of Bayelsa was spotted on Emmanuel TV among the worshippers at The SCOAN. He stayed throughout the ten-hour service, fervently joining in the time of prayers.

I hope this serves as a lesson to politicians who only turn up in church when things go their way - or whose motive for being close to pastors is purely political, not spiritual.

He then recounted a shocking story of a pastor belonging to a prominent Nigerian church who was sacked from his post after sharing a testimony at TB Joshua’s church.

With the breaking news of the Supreme Court's Decision to remove David Lyon as Bayelsa State Governor, I remember that last year he visited The SCOAN with the intention of sharing testimony. However, TB Joshua said it was not yet time for him to share the testimony and that it would be too early for him to celebrate until after the inauguration. He added that Lyon was banking on people's prayers.
